i couldn't post the good bits i read through since i was stuck in bed and slammed through the first 40 chapters, but I Became The Academy's Pink Airhead is pretty neat 👍

from the same author as Reincarnated As A Narrow-Eyed Girl In A Magical Girl Battle Story, it follows the titular Pink Airhead, Clara, who reincarnated 2 years before the start of the story of a Norse-themed Blue Archive expy mobile game and quickly rose to the top despite her original gag-character setting and a speech filter that makes her talk in ✨💕emojis💕✨

it opens on a fairly homoerotic Finals Match between Clara and Brunhilde, who Clara knows will become The Strongest in the setting by the time the Main Story starts. Clara wins and promptly fades away from public life as she waits and prepares for her actual goal: to be the ditzy and incompetent but doting Senior of the Protagonist who will enroll in her school in 2 years time

the Main Story rolls around and Clara, for all that she's thought she prepared for it, finds herself at odds between the knowledge of the future she knows, what's unfolding in front of her eyes, and what her own strength can achieve

(Brunhilde also turns into a pretty amazing useless lesbian with how many PoV scenes she has yearning for Clara, but that's neither here or there)

it's also complete at around 130 chapters

I've read so many amazing shoujo this much, and I'm sure I'll read even more before the month ends!

Yet...I still can't stop thinking about Fumi and all the things she finds out and experiences in this volume! 😭

This manga really was like a gut punch this time around...😭

X-Men: From the Ashes Ranked

Honestly as many know- I wasn’t a big Krakoa fan. 

The titles were such a “hit or miss”, I hated the Moira retcon, Laura and several other characters were just horribly written, and after Hickman left the show… the momentum kind of died as well…

Despite bringing dead and depowered X-Men back…Krakoa seemed like we were pretty much only getting the same set of characters featured….

There just WASN’T A LOT that appealed to me.

While I get people’s arguments that this era feels “lost”… many comparing it to Claremont’s “Revolution” era before Morrison; I actually feel better about this era than I have about X-books in a long time. People totally forget that for every good book during Krakoa like “X-Terminators” or “Mauraders”- there was some pretty big STINKERS like “Excalibur”, “X-Force”, “Fallen Angels”, ect…

Honestly as disjointed this era may feel, it at least FEELS like X-Men.

So, after reading several titles, I wanted to rank and briefly review them-

Uncanny- This books is definitely the best of the line! The first arc with Sarah Gaunt was spectacularly creepy and Simone really SHOWS just how much of a comic book pro she is on this book. There’s not a lot of books I would say gets the Claremontian voice right- but this one definitely does! I literally can’t stop singing its praises- if you love the original Claremont, this book is a must read!

2. NYX- While this book ISN’T by any means perfect, I still feel like it has a lot of promise. There really isn’t a book on the rest of the line that has the same young and fresh vibe this one has. The idea of the book is entertaining and when it’s good- it’s fun!…yet, when it’s bad- it’s majorly disappointing. Hopefully the next arc is a bit stronger, because I really DO want this book to succeed! This is the book most X-Men fans WANT.

3. X-Men - While this book definitely FEELS unique in its lineup and fresh… something about it just doesn’t quite work for me. I actually liked the rag-tag lineup but I often feel like it’s bogged down with nostalgia. Remember when Beast went evil? When QQ did kick? When Idie and QQ was at the Jean Grey school?…because this book will definitely remind you! While this book isn’t all bad, my other issue is that it often has the same vibe as Aaron’s “Wolverine and the X-Men” meets Cyclops “Utopia”. There’s a ridiculousness at this point in Scott fixing up another garden and trying to yet AGAIN create another mutant civilization. The book veers into corniness with the jokes and often feels too childish for a main title. While it’s definitely not the worst title… Uncanny is a much more solid book if you want A-List X-Men comic.

4. X-Factor- Is fine. It’s not as great as “Marauders” or some of the other Krakoa titles…but it’s fine as a comedy book darkly harpooning on the 1990’s run of mutants being part of a military force. It’s not anything you’ll deeply care about or even remember, but it’s fine for a quick read. I don’t HATE it…but it’s boring. Even the jokes are pretty outplayed and boring. Also…Lorna REALLY just needs to breakup with Havok and be DONE 😬

5. Exceptional X-Men - Again, I think this book has great PROMISE…Kitty falling from earth and working as a waitress after basically being a GOD... And yet- I don’t feel like Kitty works for this kind of story; it makes SENSE for Hellion to have a chip on his shoulder towards Krakoa and Emma and the X-Men and Anole wanting a “normal life”. Surge would have made sense. Hope would have made sense after being propped up as a “mutant messiah”. They basically did this storyline years ago with Sofia in “New Warriors”…and it made sense then. Kitty… just feels inauthentic and…kind of whiny. I think the biggest problem with this book is it seems like every other title…street title?- NYX is doing it. New students?- Uncanny is doing it. Character bitter after Krakoa is gone?- NYX is again doing it. All these other books are just doing these plot points BETTER. It’s sad because I think this book will survive the chopping  block where NYX might not…which is too bad because I think it’s definitely one of the weakest of the line.

6. X-Force - Oh X-Force. The bane of X-Men fans. I think the LAST time I really enjoyed an “X-Force” title was when KYOST was on the book. While definitely not AS BAD as Krakoa era Percy crackfic levels of crazy… the biggest problem with this book is- it’s boring. Nothing in this title feels greatly developed. Not the villains, not the plot, and not the characters. Everything is “Deus Ex Machina-ed” at the end of every issue. There’s no tension. There’s nothing to keep you in. While you don’t have to fear Beast making murderous Wolverine clones while flying away on a piece of an island or Domino being tortured by a man with a peacock tattoo… you also won’t really remember anything that happens in this book either. While I know sadly it won’t be the first to get cut…because X-Force is historically NEVER dropped no matter HOW bad the writing is…it definitely SHOULD BE.

Overall- I would say “Uncanny”, “NYX”, and “X-Men” were the big winners of “Ashes”…

“X-Factor”, “Exceptional”, and “X-Force” are the rougher titles…

Still I would say again- the biggest problem with most of these are that they’re boring and safe… yet even at their worst I would still say they’re more readable than say “Fallen Angels” or Duggan…

I probably won’t bother with “Phoenix” (honestly I am pretty sick of the Phoenix Force anymore and “Troia Jean” has zero appeal for me)…

Probably won’t bother with Wolverine or Hellverine, unless I hear good recommendations of it online…

I might try “Dazzler”, “Storm”, “Mystique” and “Magik”…

I will definitely read Laura’s solo and review it on here as well”.

But there you go- I really DON’T feel like “Ashes” is as big a failure as people are making it to be online….

I finished Unicorn Overlord! \o/

Kinda did it last weekend but I needed a moment to digest how amazing that game was! I ate well and I talked my friends' ears off about it xD; and I still need to talk about it! What an unexpected gem! Maybe because I went into it without any expectations and stayed away from any fandom interactions, or because the gameplay hit some sweet spot of being free roam type to not feel overbearing but the war battles being tactical enough to give me a challenge which I could adjust accordingly.

I did all the content post final fight and I have mad respect for games who do this kind of thing - you finished the game? Here are some goodies, have fun! Does it make sense? Nah but who cares! I only wish we had some kinda DLC post game cause I want to juggle the new beans and have fun with them too!!

I don't want to write a whole review here so I'll keep it super brief and spoiler free (as far as I know everyone knows the recruitables' names?)

It's hard to pick favorites, cause there were so many and I don't think there was a single character I didn't like.

While the story was simple, I really enjoyed how they handled the mind control magic. I loved the Zenoira backstory and all around, I think I really vibed with the simplicity of the plot. It was very very charming. My weakness being sibling dynamics I nearly bit my switch because of Travis and Berengaria's rapports and their story moments. And no surprise to any, I'm big softy who loves redeemable villains but I didn't expect to like Gammel and Mandarin as much as I did.

Did I mention how much I loved the digging mini game? This thing was way too addicting.

Did I mention I've been blasting the OST all week?

Did I mention I shake fist a the sky that I couldn't obtain the artbook? Anyone out there willing to sell theirs? qq asking for a friend. I'm the friend.

First time I'm actually sorta reviewing a picrew but here we go. This is actually a really cute and unique picrew but it desperately needs more colours. Like desperately! To show how bad it is here is the one I made.

This is supposed to be Glimmer. I can understand why it would be hard to do different colours for each and every single thing but I feel like having different colour options for skin, hair and eyes is like low key a necessity.

Large Hadron Collider regularly makes magic

A brotherly research duo has discovered that when the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) produces top quarks – the heaviest known fundamental particles – it regularly creates a property known as magic.

This finding, published in Physical Review D, has implications for the progression of quantum computing, with magic being a measure that describes how difficult a quantum system is for a non-quantum computer to calculate.

“The higher the magic, the more we need quantum computers to describe the behaviour,” explains Professor Martin White, from the University of Adelaide’s School of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences, who co-led the study with his twin brother, Professor Chris White, a physicist from Queen Mary University of London.

“Studying the magic properties of quantum systems generates significant insights into the development and potential uses of quantum computers.”

The LHC is the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator, consisting of a 27-kilometre ring of superconducting magnets with a number of accelerating structures through which two high-energy particle beams travel at close to the speed of light before they are made to collide.

The amount of magic exhibited by top quarks depends on how fast they are moving and their direction of travel, all of which can be measured by the ATLAS and CMS detectors that observe the results of the LHC proton collisions.

“Quantum research has long focused on entanglement, which is where particles become linked; however, our work on magic explores how well-suited particles are for building powerful quantum computers,” says Professor White.

“The ATLAS experiment has already observed evidence of quantum entanglement. We have shown that the LHC can also observe more complex patterns of quantum behaviour at the highest energies yet attempted for these kinds of experiments.”

For decades, scientists have strived to build quantum computers that leverage the laws of quantum mechanics to achieve far greater processing power than traditional computers.

The potential benefits of quantum computers are vast, impacting fields like drug discovery and materials science. Harnessing this power requires robust and controllable quantum states, and magic plays a critical role in achieving that control.

"Our research paves the way for a deeper understanding of the connection between quantum information theory and high-energy physics,” says Professor White.

“This discovery is not just about the heaviest particles in the universe, it's about unlocking the potential of a revolutionary new computing paradigm.”

Cloudflareによると、同社のネットワークは120以上の国または地域で330以上の都市に広がっており、1秒当たり平均4200万件を超えるDNS��クエストや平均6300万件を超えるHTTP(S)リクエストを処理しているとのこと。こうした膨大なデータを元に、セキュリティやトラフィック、使用状況に関するパターンを割り出し、2024年1月1日から12月1日までの情報をまとめたのが「Cloudflare 2024 Year in Review」です。Cloudflareは「トラフィックの傾向」などいくつかの項目に分けてデータを公開しています。

◆トラフィックの傾向 以下のグラフにおいて、橙線が世界、紫線が日本のトラフィックを示しています。年初の休日明け、1月8日～15日の週をベースラインとして増減を計測したところ、世界中の年間トラフィックは2024年に17.2％増加したとのこと。8月中旬まではベースラインから1～2％の増減にとどまっていましたが、それ以降は11月末まで上昇し続けたそうです。このように、下半期にトラフィックが増加するという傾向は2022年と2023年にも見られていたとのことです。一方で、日本では9月2日頃にピークに達してからはほぼ横ばい。なお、最も多くのトラフィックを占めたのは、検索インデックスを作成するGoogleのウェブクローラー「Googlebot」だったそうです。

◆最も人気のあるサービス 2024年、最も人気のあったサービスはGoogleで、2位がFacebook、3位がAppleでした。

日本では2位がApple、3位がX／Twitterになっています。

「生成AI」に限定すると、世界で最も人気だったのはOpenAIの「ChatGPT」、ユーザーがキャラクターを独自に作成できるチャットサービス「character.ai」が2位、AIコードアシスタントプラットフォーム「Codeium」が3位でした。その他のサービスについて、1位から3位までを以下にまとめています。

◆AIボットとクローラーのトラフィック 進化し続けるAIモデルをトレーニングするため、AI企業はインターネット上から情報を集め続けています。こうした「クロール」の傾向は以下の通りで、ByteDanceのAIクローラー「Bytespider」からのトラフィックが年末に向けて徐々に減少したこと、AnthropicのAIクローラー「ClaudeBot」が4月に継続的なクロール活動の兆候を示し始め、5月と6月に最初のピークを迎えた後に減少していることなどがわかります。

◆iOS対Android 世界全体では、トラフィックの67.4％がAndroid、32.6％がiOSという結果が示されました。日本では対照的にiOSの方が多く、iOSが57.3％、Androidが42.7％という結果になっています。なお、モバイル端末用OSはAndroidとiOS以外も存在しますが、Cloudflareいわく「こうしたOSからのトラフィックはごくわずかであったため、このグラフには含まれていない」とのことです。

◆上位のウェブサイトで最も人気のあるテクノロジー 広告や分析ツールなどの分野で人気のあるテクノロジーは何なのか、トラフィック上位5000のドメインから集計した結果が示されています。1位から3位までをピックアップして以下にまとめました。

◆インターネット遮断 災害や政府の意図によって、インターネットが遮断される地域は少なくありません。大規模な遮断が確認された地域と回数が国別にまとめられた結果、以下のようになりました。特筆すべきは、シリアで32回、イラクで49回も遮断されているという事実です。

原因として最も多かったのは政府の指令、次点がケーブルの断線でした。シリアでは32回中25回、イラクでは49回中48回が政府の指令による遮断だったとのことです。

◆ネットワーク品質 ダウンロード速度とアップロード速度の平均値などがまとめられています。ダウンロード速度が最も高速だったのはスペインで、平均値は292.6Mbpsでした。

アップロード速度もスペインが最も速く、192.6Mbpsでした。アップロード速度に限っては日本が120.9Mbpsでトップ10に食い込んでいます。

◆モバイル対デスクトップ 世界におけるトラフィックの58.7％がデスクトップ、41.3％がモバイルデバイスという結果になりました。日本ではモバイルデバイスが47.8％となり、デスクトップに肉薄しています。

◆トラフィック軽減 全世界のトラフィックの6.5％が「悪意がある可能性あり」または「顧客の定義」を理由として、Cloudflareのシステムによって軽減されたそうです。DDoS緩和ツールとWAF管理ツールにより軽減されたのは全体の3.2％でした。

◆ボットの活動地域 ボットのトラフィックが最も多かったのはアメリカで、全体の34.6を占めていました。日本は2.6％でした。

◆最も攻撃されている業界 業界別にトラフィックが軽減された割合を示し、「最も攻撃されている業界」を算出したグラフが以下。ギャンブル／ゲーム、金融がそれぞれ6.6％で1位タイでしたが、その他の業界もほとんど差があるとは言えません。Cloudflareは「どの業界が最も標的となりやすいのかを予測することはできませんが、すべての業界が攻撃を受けることはわかっています。業界に関係なく、最善の策は気を引き締めることです」と述べました。

oh forgot to mention it, I managed to read all 267 of the (questionably) TL'd chapters so far for Turned Into A Girl, Now I'm The Strongest (Or Most Dangerous!?) and yeah, whatever it has going for it drops off a cliff around chapter 70 or so when the MC is put on track to get ready for her first combat experience and the plot goes from a daily recording of what's happening to jump almost 2 months later

whatever the MC's personality was during the first 60 or so chapters gets binned in favor of a hypercompetent military rookie that just wants to train and get stronger. there's a bit of socialization with same-age peers when she enrolls in the ability-user exclusive high school, but most of the time she's gonna act like a military officer that's above everyone else

I love the China fandom but every day I am on lofter, makes me both appreciate ao3 even more and loath China censorship and their websites restrictions.

大家好! I was quite excited about trying instant meepok for my weekly simple breakfast out of compassion for Palestinians. This is hands down my favourite type of noodles, whether it's bak chor mee (pork noodles), as well as fishball or wonton mee. The reviews were pretty good and one even said this tasted authentic. They were right; this was a highly slurpable bowl. It's supposed to be eaten dry, but I like mine soupy, so I added more water. It's something I would buy again, but for the time being, I want to try other brands and there're quite many of them!

SC, JK, DT, MI, CL and I caught up over lunch at a new place. There were a few stalls selling fish soup, local western-style food, nasi briyani and Korean fare. I craved noodles but fish soup is so widely available that I decided not to have it. 2 options remained: ramyeon or spaghetti. Many places house local western-style stalls whereas Korean ones are less common, so I opted for ramyeon. The light clear broth wasn't too salty, which was great. The noodles were a little more chewy than our QQ (springy) ones but still very slurpable. Overall, it was a decent bowl with shrimp, crab sticks, clams, mussels, tofu skin and cabbage. More importantly, I also had fun chatting and laughing with the rest.

I returned to the stall selling local western-style dishes to try their chicken spaghetti. $10.90 got me a large slab of chicken and mountain of spaghetti. Colleagues sniffed that this was too expensive and it was for local hawker fare; other stalls charge about $8.50. No wonder there're few customers whenever I visit. Then again, it's a better deal than the $18 - $22 price tag at a cafe or restaurant and much higher value than the $18.90 and above one needs to fork out for avocado sourdough toast with a topping. I like the way they cook spaghetti here: slurpable like noodles. Al dente, to me, is overrated.

We're into a brand new week; I hope it brings us a step closer to a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. From 100,000 Palestinians fleeing Rafah under Israel's instructions, that number has risen to 300,000. The invasion of the city is happening as the US continues to arm Israel with weapons apart from the bombs it suspended. The death toll has risen to over 35,000 and that isn't the end. I'll continue to pray hard that countries arming Israel during this genocidal war will be severely punished. This needs to end already. 下次见!
