Thanks for liveblog 👑 can I ask what your James feelings were after seeing 4x01?
You’re welcome, anon!  And as for James…honestly pretty good? I mean—Teresa tells Pote her dreams of the future, of a non-cartel life and then IMMEDIATELY ASKS ABOUT JAMES? Pote calls James a “ghost” which is a very CIA-related word (both operative and/or prisoner connotations).  The show runner’s tweet about having patience re: James?  All good things pointing toward his return IMO! Thanks for the ask!

QOTS 4x01 liveblog
It is SO GREAT to see everyone’s smiling faces. Good news: everyone is still extremely hot.
Teresa with another genius distribution/smuggling plan: liquid cocaine in cacti.
First James mention is Pote saying he can’t find him and that “James is a ghost” which is interesting b/c a “ghost detainee” is a person held in a CIA detention center whose identity has been kept anonymous/hidden. So hmmm....
Boaz, Boaz, Boaz listen to your cousin, bro.  I’m glad Teresa doesn’t trust him but yeah, that’s gonna get messy.  Sidenote: I’m loving a more balanced between rogue and reason Javier.
Okay, Gator Bait list already has some strong contenders but can we all agree to move racist liquor license extortion guy to the top of the list?
Since we got Pote’s cheignet recipe, this is me putting in a request for Birdie’s “Teresita” cocktail deets too.
El Gordo is interesting, says he hates doing business with cartels and prefers money to murder but....that’s not really the vibe I was getting from Mr. Costco membership quantities of plastic sheeting.
Marcel--let me love you and your fabulous suits. (Promo is telling me my love will be fleeting lol but I’m gonna try to make it last.)
I about cried when Pote saw his new kitchen.  So sweet.  Also: “Everyone I loved is gone except for you.” Ouuuuuuch. OUCH. OUCH.
Eddie...is her piano instructor? Also, okay who watched La La Land in the writer’s room. White boy jazz pianists pffft.  Cute smile though and EVEN CUTER smile on Teresa.  Think it’s interesting that they made it clear this all is happening before a deep dark secrets exchange between them.
And Chicho...you were the random henchman I decided to root for survival this season but that was before you let Teresa get hauled off by the cops in less than 10 seconds of screen time! You’re on thin ice mister.
Speaking of cops...that’s was an interesting Queenpin scene huh.
And aw, Tony! Wracking my brain thinking of who would be trying to kill him...not many characters know of his existence right? Maybe it’s just a end of episode red herring.
And finally, please Teresa. Take down the patriarchy! Especially the old money old white guy judge variety please.  Like Castel said, I’m betting on you girl.

QOTS Set Art: Boaz Jimenez and Guido Reni’s The Archangel Michael Defeating Satan. Interesting choice of framing in the second shot. 👀

Y’all... the fact Teresa starts the season seeing a future beyond the cartel, trying to establish a personal life for both herself and Pote, dreaming of going totally legit? 😭 This season is gonna really hurt, isn’t it? But also makes me wonder...
What if the Queenpin opening scene is a flash forward...to the S4 finale?

QOTS All-U-Can-Eat-Gator-Buffet 4x01 Odds:
AKA: Character most likely to have body disposed of in the bayou 2k19
I think we can all agree: Rene the racist liquor license guy earned top honors this week.
El Gordo interrupts Teresa? ADD HIM TO THE LIST. Hangs up on Teresa? MOVES UP TO #2 SPOT.
Judge Bug Zapper Blood Botanist: Although burying his ass under his beloved roses would be Poetic! Cinema! so I’ll give his space to his flunky detective instead.
Boaz “Tastes like chicken” Jimenez. Seems almost inevitable doesn’t it?
Eddie: By the glow of fandom torches & pitchforks I presume 😜
Temporary Get Out of Gator Free card:
Marcel and his pralines. I can be bought with impeccable suits & sweets, what can I say?

Now that we know the full queen opening monologue, any thoughts?
Hi anon! Thanks for the ask! Here’s what lines stood out to me as possible S4 themes:
1) “Miscalculations can have fatal consequences.”2) “When your people fail you, you have no choice but to let them go.”3) Staying on top is never bloodless.
Every Queenpin monologue has involved a murder and the show itself has been pretty ruthless about killing off characters, so the last one we can jot down as a consistent series theme.  The first two I found intriguing especially because of the misdirect with the “betrayers” of the opening scene being the men standing by Teresa’s side rather than the men kneeling on the floor in front of her.  Could this mean a similar misdirect this season with a character who seems to be obviously betraying Teresa not actually being the true threat?
As I mentioned before, I saw some story connections between Teresa and Queenpin’s opener as well.  With Queenpin cutting a ribbon to a hotel (?) opening and then Teresa making plans to transition to legitimate businesses, part of me wondered if this flash forward wasn’t that far into the future, maybe even the S4 finale.  The opening scene also showed that although Queenpin was involved with non-criminal enterprises, the blood of cartel life still literally stained her skin.  I think Teresa’s journey this season will include finding that transition more difficult and bloody than she hopes.
But remember what James said all the way back in S1: “The only way out is to move up.” Becoming a legitimate business woman is one way to do that.
And yes, the fireworks (3x10) AND the police cars (Jeresa 3x02, Jeresa 3x04, James 3x13) made me think of James. I thought he might show up on the roof in 4x01 but if it’s a flash forward to 4x13 maybe he still will? To be continued…
