My wife got me this SDW Gundam Heroes Qiongqi Strike Freedom Gundam kit for Christmas. Neither of us had any idea what it was... The box just looked cool, so she grabbed it.

This was my first SD kit. I'm familiar with the format, and I recognized the Strike Freedom from SEED, but I'd never heard of this SD Gundamworld Heroes series.

There was a surprising variety of plastic in the box. Two different colors of metallic gold. Some clear purple and clear yellow. A bit of red. Black. A deep blue/purple. But, despite all that variety, there were still a bunch of color-correcting stickers.

The runners were a little different than what I expect from the kits I've built so far... There were virtually no gates. And the instructions didn't call for nippers. I just kind of popped the parts off with my fingers - and it was a nearly-clean break. I wouldn't mind seeing that in HG kits.

The build was obviously simple. There isn't a lot to this kit. It only took me a couple hours to build. It's just barely poseable - it doesn't even have elbows.

But it's still fun. I get a certain satisfaction just out of assembling a good plastic model. Following the directions, sticking the bits together, and getting some kind of finished product. It's enjoyable. Calming. Almost therapeutic.

I'll probably build more SD kits in the future... This model has definitely piqued my interest. I'd love to try one of the new MGSD kits.

But I probably won't do another one of these SD Gundamworld Heroes builds. They all look seriously overdesigned. Just way too ornate. I like simpler, cleaner designs.

Alright, a little bookend to my recent three SD kits that I got. We have:

SD Ex-Standard Banshee Norn

SDW Heroes Long Zun Liu Bei Unicorn Gundam

SDW Heroes Qiongqi Strike Freedom Gundam

Now, given what I said individually about each one, I am going to recommend one of three. The one I would recommend getting here is the SDW Heroes Long Zun Bei Unicorn Gundam. While it’s weapons and large side skirt pieces make it a little hard to move and pose, it does have the least amount of sticker, the better part and color separation and can actually stand on its own.

The last of the three SD kits I recently got, the SDW Heroes Qiongqi Strike Freedom Gundam! Now, like the previous one, this has far less stickers than the SD Ex-Standard Banshee Norn, but it does have more than the the SDW Heroes Long Zun Liu Bei Unicorn Gundam and honestly, the red stickers on the feet bother me the most because they kind of want to peel off already. I get it’s an SD kit but surely they could have done something and not made the foot entirely in that transparent yellow. I do like all the colors though. The mix of transparent yellow and purple with the gold, black and red it an interesting mix of colors and I like it.

The biggest problem for this kit lies in the backpack, While the backpack is large and detailed and honestly pretty cool looking, once it’s attached...good luck getting the kit to stand on its own because you really can’t. Basically, if you want to display this kit with the backpack on, then you’re going to have to buy a stand to put it on. I don’t have a stand so, I just took the backpack off for now.

Still, not a bad kit for $9 but, the backpack issue is not an easy thing to overcome without have to spend more money if you don’t already have a stand to use.

Here are my two recent SDW Heroes kits that I built. On top is the Nobunaga Gundam Epyon [Dark Mask Ver.] and the bottom one is the Cleopartra Qubeley [Dark Mask Ver.]. I personally like the Qubeley one more out of these two.

My thing is that, and this was something I mentioned with the Qiongqi Strike Freedom Gundam is that, in the case of the Epyon one, they pack so much into such a small design and that really hinders the kit overall. Like, you are not going to be posing that one because there is just so much stuff that makes it hard to move things

The Qubeley one really only has that problem in the lower section but at least I can move the arms. The Epyon one also has a ton of stickers and one of those actual broke on me while placing it, which I don't appreciate. Out of these two, I'd definitely recommend the Qubeley. I don't hate the Epyon but it's just so limited.
