A Siji Manor poster I made recently!
I wanted to make something a bit fun and graphic for once! I would say I had a lot of fun making this but it's only half-true because painting that many face was a bit of a pain in the ass. I'm, unfortunately, not a crowd enjoyer. I wanted to give the vibes of a weird movie or show, something like that. Unsettling would be the keyword I was going for. Once again, those are my Siji Manor costume designs.

I've always seen it as the passing of the master's sword to the disciple when he became a master himself (this based on the idea that Rong Xuan was no longer there to earn it himself). But I love the idea of such a sentiment attached to it, that his idiot boy Rong Xuan was out there in a world he could no longer navigate and QHZ hopefully using it as a means to help him, expressing the desire of his master - brilliant!
Forgive me if you have explained elsewhere but why do you think Ye Baiyi was willing to part with the sword his beloved made him, and give it to Zhou Zishu’s master? Maybe they explain it in canon but emotionally I can only think that was devastating for him and he had to have some profound reason for doing so
I don't know if I saw it somewhere or if I headcanoned it but I think he gave it to Qin Huaizhang (ZZS's master) as a "thanks" for keeping an eye on Rong Xuan, so he valued the sword enough to know it'll protect "his boy". Rong Changqing was still alive then when the trade happened so Ye Baiyi had the real thing right there. Some headcanoned that Longbei was actually made for Ye Baiyi and Baiyi for RCQ so they always have the other at their side but that's just a cute headcanon. Either way, the Baiyi sword also started as a "sword with no name" and it's not clear when it earned Baiyi's name, if it was gifted to him by RCQ, if Ye Baiyi claimed it or if Qin Huaizhang named the sword after Ye Baiyi who gave it to him (meaning it was Baiyi protecting Rong Xuan if it came to it).
I love Ye Baiyi's story so complex and tragic and beautiful and we have so many gaps in it despite it being the driving force behind everything that happened in Word Of Honor ; ;
#it's my hc that zzs will do the same with chengling in the future#pass baiyi onto him when he's a master#yby's so utterly fascinating#don't think i'll ever get tired of his story#and all the gaps in it like you said!#ye baiyi#word of honor#baiyi#qin huaizhang#rong changqing

im giffing the scene with gao xiaolian and gao chong (and shen shen! but this is not abt him!) in ep10, the one were xiaolian pleads her dad to stop sending her with gifts to chengling as part of their arranged betrothal that chengling doesnt want anyway. you can really feel the genuinety behind the love these two have for each other, father and daughter, despite not seeing eye to eye in this matter. xiaolian adores her father and gao chong doesnt seem happy at causing her any hurt, even if he expects his only daughter to carry out her filial duty
#gifset that compares gao chong & xiaolian with wen kexing & a-xiang everyone???? has this been done before????#oh and!!! lets also throw zhou zishu & qin jiuxiao / chengling into the mix!!!!!#oh also!!!! what abt ye baiyi & rong xuang and qin huaizhang & zhou zishu!!!!!#lets make a mentor & mentee / parent & child collection huehe#(does luo fumeng & liu qianqiao count too?????) Some WenZhou AU ideas I had but will probably never write
Time travel fix it where they both go back in time to before Zhou Zishu uses the nails or Wen Kexing leaves the valley, however, they get body swapped. Using what they have pieced together from each other about the time before they met, they must navigate through two equally dangerous worlds until they can reunite and hopefully get back into their own bodies. As they are in each other’s bodies they take much better care of them. They also have even less tolerance for the people who harmed their zhiji.
ZZS goes to a brothel before he loses his senses, hoping to have one last night of feeling while he still can. He goes without much of a thought about what particularly he wants, only that he doesn't want to regret not taking his last chance later. WKX is still the Ghost Valley Master but comes to this establishment on occasion and knows the owner well. He very happily agrees to step in and “help out”. ZZS is (very) reluctantly charmed.
WKX’s family flees to Siji Manor and remain there, safe. His parents still pass away, along with Qin Huaizhang, and ZZS still takes them to the imperial capital, however this time they both become assassins and WKX doesn’t let him use the nails. He basically kidnaps ZZS with Han Ying and they use disguises and go into the jianghu, where they are both frighteningly competent. They end up at mirror lake as the sect is being attacked and still help Chengling and eventually uncover Zhao Jing, while everyone is like who the fuck are these guys and how do they know everything and why are they beating everyone up.
Prince Jin sends ZZS and a small group to infiltrate the ghost valley and do some scouting, trying to find the glazed armour key. They get inside and ZZS manages to get into the valley master’s rooms, but that’s where he’s found. They fight and WKX goes from I’m about to kill you to I will flirt with you outrageously, which just makes ZZS more pissed off. WKX makes an agreement with ZZS that if he still wants to leave in a month's time he will let him go. ZZS agrees because it gives him more time to snoop. WKX suggests it because it gives him more time to win this unexpected beauty over.

you NEED to tell me all your thoughts and the bts process of Everything You‘re Not Supposed To Do. and i know youre dabbling in a sequel so probably more like tell me Everything that has to do with this verse!!!! i NEED to know!!! the idea of this fic is so unique, i havent seen it anywhere else before! and its ingredients are so precisely and carefully mixed (as all your rarepairs are!) that im astonished its not ,, canon ,,
its such a cool set-up! lqq joining tianchuang, lqq seeking out siji manor years after qin huaizhang teaches her his disguise skills but finding an abandoned estate, han ying going from wariness to desire and affection for lqq! everything thats going on with zzs in the background and that we dont get to see!!!!!!! there are two moments of this AU that are burned into my mind—one is lqq reflecting on her own disappointment at finding what she hoped to maybe become her new home abandoned, the other is zzs realizing he has been outsmarted and giving in to his fate. idk why but these two moments moved me very deeply. the image of lqq taking qhz up on his invitation, but too late. finding only withered grounds, empty houses, dust. and then zzs surrendering to the fact that he has been outsmarted. that his two disciples turned what he taught them against him, that he lost because he, too, is human. the only reason they could outsmart him in the first place being that he let them so close to him, that he underestimated what he means to them, what they are ready to do for him. eugh!!!!! so good!!!
please ramble! i loved reading your thoughts re: The Only Place You Wanna Be! <3
ooouhoohoohooheehee i love this fic (Everything That You're Not Supposed To Do) and thinking about it and talking about it.
starting by dragging a point over from ao3 about having a difficult time believing zhou zishu would go that far in some of the scenes! because i actually had such a fascinating time myself playing with just how far i thought zhou zishu would go. how far would he push liu qianqiao and han ying? how hard would he make them work? as his lovers? as his subordinates? as the sole occupants of the venn diagram where those two circles overlap in such a complicated way. they're so *entangled.*
zhou zishu, of the infamously soft heart. zhou zishu, who knows this about himself and becomes colder and harder to compensate. zhou zishu, who murdered an innocent family down to the servants, down to a little girl he *knew* and cared about. zhou zishu, who drugged his san-shidi to keep him out of the way during that mission--to keep him safe from it--to keep him safe from the worst of tian chuang--to keep him safe from zhou zishu himself.
and i feel like the zishu in this story does a lot to keep both his family and his lovers out of the depths of his business, but while his family/sect he'll do more to protect, he *needs* his lovers to be able to protect themselves.
he'll go harder on them than anyone else because he needs them to be *the best*--no mistakes. no way they can be his weakness and vice versa.
or, at least, that's what liu qianqiao would tell you.
but a very delightful bit of ambiguity i have in this particular fic is pov. we never get zhou zishu's pov. *is* he so ruthless? how many backup plans on backup plans does he have? is he in the shadows after all, waiting to swoop in if they need him? does he retain much awareness and empathy for their humanity? has his own human fallibility projected inhuman standards on them to make himself feel safe, and it simply hasn't backfired yet? is it some jumbled mix of the above?
and! i love that we will never know. that, truthfully, we don't even need to.
anyway! all that was a big part of the bts process, sitting with zishu's character and his headspace in tian chuang, sitting with my pov characters and how i wanted to play with this perspective on it all.
and of course, as always, thinking about liu qianqiao. the idea that a choice that in another au might have been kinder to her than gui gu--to study further under qin huaizhang among the blossoms of siji shanzhuang--ends up merely being complicated in a different way.
something that still requires her to become the best at what she does, rise in the ranks, thrive in danger, make a home only out of the people she can trust.
going to gui gu ought to have her letting go of her obsessions and hurts, but it was never really good at what it wanted to be good at, this concept of second chances missing the mark with its meng po tang, and so it only let her steep in her hurts longer and let her grudges fester. meanwhile this other path both took her further away from the jianghu and required her to actually deal with her shit besides. there was enough of qin huaizhang's legacy, especially in some of the older members of siji shanzhuang that were definitely still around when she joined, to make that true.
i also like to think that in essence liu qianqiao's original choice set her up for more success, too.
in canon, in choosing to become a ghost, she chose to die in a sense, to stop living, but to become a ghost--a permanently frozen echo of the life she had lived up to that point, of the things that killed her.
because humans be human, she went on to still form relationships and find new purpose to an extent. but she didn't necessarily actively expect or want to, and her very identity as a ghost required her to always have the clinging cobwebs of her past laid over everything she did and planned and wanted.
but in choosing to go after qin huaizhang, she was *choosing* to live. she decided that she still had the capacity to be a person, to heal, to find meaning in living. and even if that road took her first to disappointment and then to tian chuang of all places, it still took her somewhere. and she was ready to embrace whatever it was she found.
i have a fondness for canon liu qianqiao and her role as yan gui and her relationship with luo fumeng and xie-wang and her tortuous journey through the weeds with yu qiufeng, trying to sort out and settle these matters that weighed on her too long in her state of self-imposed death.
but i'm also *so* compelled by a liu qianqiao, with all her passion and ambition and cleverness and *care*, who chose to live in that one crucial moment instead. and i just wanted very badly to see her reaction to and influence on a zhou zishu who was rapidly approaching his own choice on that matter.
anyhow! i am indeed working on a sequel to this fic. i haven't fully decided if i want to try another 5+1 things format for it, or if i want to explore zhou zishu's pov as well, or what.
but it will pick up right where the first one leaves off, with all the dramatic fallout of liu qianqiao's plan.
here's hoping it doesn't take too long to actually write 😅

No Shortage of Nights
Rating: M
Relationships: Wen Kexing/Zhou Zishu, Gu Miaomiao & Wen Kexing & Wen Ruyu, Qin Huaizhang & Zhou Zishu, Qin Huaizhang & Wen Kexing
Zhou Zishu smiled. It was pleasant to be transparent to this man, he thought. Weeks of traveling and days in his bed had undone the masks he had spent years fashioning. “I’m thinking we should pay your master a visit.” He watched shock break across Wen Kexing’s face, only to smooth out quickly. “We should?” he said.
Sequel to Millions of Suns Left, where, shortly after Qin Jiuxiao's death, canon Zhou Zishu was thrown into an alternate universe where Wen Kexing is part of Siji Manor and almost everyone who was dead is still alive.
(Yes, that's Han Ye from Legend of Anle. I wanted a Gong Jun who looked more like Siji Disciple!WKX)

shl/tyk women thought of the day: liu qianqiao teaching other people the disguise techniques she learned from qin huaizhang, and the other makeup skills she learned on her own through the rest of her life. regular makeup, makeup to hide bruises and cuts, makeup to change your face so no one can recognize you. i think it would be so fun, in a SHL au where she survives the fall of ghost valley, if she acquired a little band of other women and they were like a little traveling theater troupe (yes i’m blatantly stealing a bit from legend of fei, enough that i wonder if this is actually a wuxia trope and i’m just not familiar with the genre enouhg to know this?) as a cover but also sort of for real, but i’m also thinking about a TYK au where she lives and is just minding her own business post canon (perhaps... running an inn.....) but every once in a while someone comes through who she teaches this to.
#shl women thought of the day#liu qianqiao#i briefly suggested this on twitter and i have KEPT THINKING ABOUT IT#augh i just. i love lqq so much'

The World of the Morning After [Word of Honour / 山河令]
Chapter 4: Everybody In Their Place
Qin Huaizhang arrives at Taihu Manor, and tells the shameful tale of his disobedient disciple. Also, a beautiful phoenix ornament of red paper gets made.
This fic isn't dead yet! I saw the Tumblr post about the WIP bingo card go by the other day, and because @fealiniel had recently commented on the earlier chapters (and because I have an outline written and am in no danger of losing the plot) I decided to give this another go. Really, I know everything I want to happen; I just need to write it all down. Ye Baiyi and his painful love for Rong Changqing is a headvoice I can summon at a moment's notice, anyway.

What... is even going on. Who are these two kids?
I happened to pass by... uh huh sure you did Shen Shen. Oh man. This guy is smart. Hero Zhao, I mean. He hears Ao Laizi's words and sees his glances at Shen Shen and is like... ah... so that is how it is. No problem. There's no problem here!
ZZS: We're nobodies. WKX: Surely we're not! ZZS: -eyeroll-
They've got peacocks at the banquet. That is hilarious.
I just choked on my sandwich. "This prawn is nice, try it." WKX is such a self-satisfied flirt.
Is Ao Laizi going to die? Did I do it again by liking him? Oh yeah, the Glazed Armor. Uh oh the bad wind.... Master of the Unfaithful list, Luo Fumeng?
Shen Shen you are too drunk to teach bb to drink. Go sleep it off.
What is this a meet and greet? How am I supposed to remember everyone. I need a flow chart.
ZZS just fended off a maid by pretending to vomit. Hilarious! And then is immediately entertained by sneaky sneaks running around and having sword fights and chases in the moonlight.
Oh good. The ghosts are here. How do I know? Someone with an echoing voice just told me so. XD
That was weak, bro. Do you even sword? Can you cut a rope? Of course Ao Laizi died. Dang it.
WKX doing all this distracting while ZZS is looking off screen. What is he looking at?
Well. That got dark and creepy. Beauty Ghost seems like a nice jiejie.
Pft. He can cry if he wants to. Men can totally cry, Chengling, don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
They stole the Glazed Armor! I can't remember what it is or what it does or why everyone wants it, but it's been stolen! Seriously, all I care about is WKX petting his cat (ZZS) backward while he hisses.
Oh... was it Shen Shen sleep walking? Or uh Song Huairen? The traitor who broke into the secret room.
No... Shen Shen... destroying the one piece you have is totally the right move at the moment. But you know.. of course you don't want to do that, since you are ambitious and greedy.
Was that just WKX? Of course it is. "Our little Chengling..." Awwww WKX is all in. Ok. So did WKX just see the trap, or did he know it was there already? LOL I am so suspicious of him.
Hwat?! "You're a male virgin, is that it?" WKX is hilarious. ZZS is afraid of blood? Hmmm. Interesting. Other people's? His own? All of the above?
Sir. Sir? SIR! that was a perfectly good sleeve! Omg. You do not have subtle bone in your body do you, WKX? "I'll take care of that blood stain for you" slice, "looks like you're a cutsleeve now, ZZS!" 🤣🤣
Ah it is one of my favorite sayings (because of Nie Huaisang lol) "The mantis stalks the cicada...."
Hmm... Did WKX cut ZZS sleeve to leave evidence of him being here where the dead man is? Please pick up that dang sleeve.
Song Huairen was the traitor who stole the thing in the manor, I see.
"I'm just a cicada! I'm afraid of ghosts!" WKX your pickup lines are hilarious.
Whaaaaaaa? WKX just found his... dad? at the Zhao ancestral shrine? Oh... some kind of psychedelic incense? Qin Huaizhang is super cute! I love his smile so much!
This man is not going to have any clothes left if he keeps cutting them off when they get blood on them.
Dun dun Duuuuuuuuun! WKX knows you ZZS. Sorry friend. He has known you.

i love that wen kexing serves both. he can be prim and delicate when pouring out wine to pay respect and kowtow three times to qin huaizhang. and he can hold a monologue that really has you feeling the weight of his experience and all his years.
i love wkx so much he is so pretentious and absolutely unaware of how weird he comes off as. its adorable. these moments when he tries to give a grandiose impression like some elegant gentleman, refined yet competent, and it just doesnt land as he thought it would be, are so human. hes so cute
#nothing more to say just: i love him#props to gong jun this scene was (chef's kiss)#i wish i could see the raws#i need to know whether gong jun's voice cracked#im rewatching woh!!!!!

Qin Huaizhang and his pupils! I always love thinking a lot about Siji manor and how it was, how it started, etc. I really wanted to make an illustration reflecting a nostalgia of these times. More Siji manor rambling below >>>
I am going through a crisis regarding my headcanons about it, though. As in, I can't be satisfied by what the book gives us, and clearly I got too invested in the backstory I made up to just accept giving it up based on some random infos sprinkled here and there. Here are the named characters that I assume are all from Siji:
(Duan Pengju isn't there because, for good balance, I thought it would be nice to have him as an agent recruited later on by ZZS.) QHZ is obviously the founder of the manor, right? According to the book (which gives us very little), he's an oddball, and he could have gone about with only two disciples-- or very young ones... But simultaneously, we do get informations in extra 5 about Siji manor's wide reach and activities. It's hard to believe that ZZS was the oldest disciple (as it is suggested in TYK in that one line where he's said to having been a dashixiong.....); he was 15 by the time of QHZ's death, so could QHZ really have operated alone with an army of tiny kids before that? Sorry, Priest, I will have to fight with canon lines here. I like to imagine that QHZ had associates within Siji-- he was the main founder, but he wasn't working alone. Old Bi, who's mentioned in TYK, chapter 1, could have been one of said associates. Lu Yu....... So Lu Yu is from Qi Ye, and up until recently he was my anchor when it came to justifying my idea that no, ZZS and LJX weren't the sole disciples in Siji Manor (since, in TYK, ZZS says it was "just the two of them"-- but it could be metaphorical!! and Lu Yu being there so early on in Qi Ye could be a proof of that!!). Turns out, the infos we get from Extra 5, once again, make me feel like it's unlikely that it was really literally only ZZS and LJX, but-- Anyway; I did picture Lu Yu as being older than ZZS, probably a shixiong, but it's also mentioned in Qi Ye that he his technique was "worthy of ZZS' teaching"...... which makes it harder to justify him being a shixiong. I mean, some mental gymnastics can probably make it work, and after all this is only a remark coming from Jing Qi's narration, BUT. Bichen suggested he could have been trained later on by ZZS as more people left Siji in disagreement with ZZS' own politics... so why not? I like to think that ZZS was QHZ's only disciple-- the others, shixiongs and shidis, were disciples of QHZ's associates rather than his own direct disciples. Maybe he didn't want any, until he met with ZZS and figured that the kid was worthy enough of being his disciple. LJX would have been taken in by QHZ as an additional trial or training method for ZZS-- because teaching is the best way of putting your own knowledge to the test. ALL OF THIS TO SAY, i do imagine that ZZS and LJX had a peculiar relationship with QHZ that other disciples didn't have, and that it was just the two of them from the moment ZZS was chosen by QHZ to become the next leader. Bi-shu... could have been reluctant at first, then decided to believe in ZZS until years later when he figured he couldn't do TC anymore and it was time for him to go? Anyway--- I could go on for hours bc clearly I have nothing better to do w my life than to muse about some random background storylines LOL
Thanks for reading!
