If they did reunite for a movie/show. Who do you think should play Gus? That's if they can't get the original actor.
Hey anon!
Gosh I have no clue, the young kid they had was strikingly similar to Gale in my opinion (minus the random blonde kid that showed up for a brief moment lmao) and was believable as being a mini version of Brian.
We had Debbie even comment on it in the show so fast forwarding to now they would have to try and get someone who looks similar to an older Gale who still looks amazingly handsome ily but dear god pls shave the beard off
The whole cast has aged like a fine wine though and Randy Harrison made a pact with the devil for his youth so he will still have that youthful JT glow - meaning we would still get him teasing an even older Brian 😈 hehe
#britin#queer as folk#guys i have no functioning brain cells so my answers suck#imagine we manifest this movie#i would be even more INSUFFERABLE about qaf#soph asks

Things That Definitely Made Me GAY (Part 2):
MUSIC ICONS: Part of my Coming Out would be incomplete without the music that found me during that time. I’d wager my survival had every bit to do with the singers, songwriters and entertainers I was playing at the time. I especially credit Madonna, Janet Jackson, Barbara Streisand and Rufus Wainwright. They were the unexpected heroes in my ears everyday reminding me it was okay to embrace the dramatic, funny, complex, sexual situations of life in song.
FILMS: I am a firm believer that people are always searching for bits of themselves in the movies. So, being the teen I was, I wanted to find parts of my being in the movies to be affirmed that I wasn’t alone. Whether it was a documentary or rom-com, I wanted to escape into a potential future or an idea of what it looked like to be a gay man in 2009. Documentaries were a gift from heaven because I got to see where we had been and where we were going. I still feel that way as a 30 year old. I feel like I still am eager to see stories of us and find parts of myself on celluloid.
VOGUEING/PARIS IS BURNING: This movie quite simply changed and saved my life in a LOT of ways. When Madonna’s Vogue (BEST SONG FOREVER ON REPEAT) came into my life, my godmother introduced to me to the Houses of New York City, the Ballrooms and the origins of Vogueing. I had never felt so seen as a black gay person in a film prior to seeing PIB. It was the antidote to existing in a suburb in Washington. To know I wasn’t alone in the world and that there was a place beyond Washington where people like me exist, was (and still is) the greatest gift anyone, especially from kin, could’ve given me.
QUEER AS FOLK: THIS SHOW TOOK ME THERE. I remember hiding the box sets at many friends’ houses when I first had come out. While the show can be a bit dated, the stories and original characters really shaped what being a part of the LGBTQ+ community could potentially be as I grew into adulthood.
HISTORY: When I first came out, I made it my personal mission to read up on all things gay history to understand who came before me and whose footsteps I was walking behind. I found so much solace in the bravery we displayed as a community. I know that I am free to be me because of the folks who came before me. I hope that as time goes on, we discover more unsung gay heroes.
HEROES: I went out to of my way to find people who were like me and people who had the same interests as me. Finding people who made me feel understood and created the work to express all the facets of not only the human experience but the gay experience. Whether it be through dance, poetry, filmmaking or photography, I credit these artists for saving my life through their work.
FATSO: Some kids first cartoon crushes were Aladdin, Hercules, HELL, I could even bet that some had crushes on The Beast, BEFORE HE BECAME HUMAN! Me? Mine was (and still is) Fatso. Some have read him as a queer coded character and for my sake, I really hope that it’s true.
PORN & The Pornstars That Make Em’ : As weird as it may seem, discovering Porn really helped me feel liberated and free to understand my sexuality and what I really liked. Also..boy, oh boy, the men and the videos that still to this day..get me off is a list that’s too long to count. From Zeb Atlas to Tom Katt, these men served the fantasies that were so hot and beefy, I still can’t believe my eyes. Being gay certainly has its perks.
NOAH’S ARC: In the same vein as QAF, Noah’s Arc made me feel not only seen as a gay man but as a black man. I love that the show gave the community so many versions of our existence. Making us more than a side character or the uplifting and sassy character, at that. We were portrayed as human and proof that we exist.

Pride Month: Noah's Arc -2005
Little primer because I feel like it's probably not that well known.
Noah's Arc was the black QAF, the gay Living Single/Sex and the City/Girlfriends. Short-lived but notable and groundbreaking for focusing on black, queer men. For me, the characters were more mature in some ways than the multiple series it mimicked -the show was less about growing up and more about finding your way as a grown-up. And also about hot bodies.
This is Noah - the Carrie. Noah is a wannabe screenwriter (because as we all know, writing is *that* job.)
This is Alex -The Charlotte. (The cutie getting brushed off is Alex's longtime/long-suffering boyfriend). Alex is an HIV/Aids educator, which is awesome because the show gets to direct focus on something that has been and remains a major problem in the black community.
This is Ricky -The Samantha. Ricky has a little bit of an unrequited thing for Noah. And later hooks up with Wilson Cruz(lucky man).
This is Chance -The Miranda. Chance is a professor whose first and strongest love is and will always be academics. Which is a problem with his newly domestic life.
They are Noah's ARC(get it, look, I love puns and whatever this counts as okay). And this...this is Noah's Big.
On the one hand, it's definitely hilarious watching Wade protest how straight he is when stuff like this happens.
On the other hand, he's an African American, macho, man's man having a bi-awakening as an adult and the show doesn't flinch away from what that means.
There are two seasons and a movie that gives everyone a happy ending.
#Noah's Arc the series#It holds up as both of it's time and ahead of it's time#sadly the same issues abound today#black lgbtq#african american lgbtq#pride 2024#pride month#happy pride 🌈#I honestly find Chance the most interesting because rarely do you see exploration of someone loving a thing more than their family#and it's not necessarily a tragedy but an adaptation#black queerness#black queer men#black queer love

weird how alice degraded bl and yet their hs has a ton of bl tropes there
I mean, yeah. It's white privilege and ignorance at its finest. I've talked about this at length before, actually.
It's kind of a disservice to Asian BL not only by appropriating its tropes, but also just sheer privileged bliss. People in communities that are not as progressive on LGBT rights are not only less likely to be able to come out, but also less likely to be able to even explore their sexualities and gender identities. It's easier to just conform and to not think of desire and what it means, especially when we think of sexuality as a spectrum.
It also ignores older queer media in the west that has influenced BL, which was influenced by yaoi, which itself emerged as a distinct market/genre in the 1970s. Nothing's as insular as it appears; for example, Queer as Folk (the 2000 US version) is reportedly huge in China today, and I can see that it's influenced Kinnporsche and danmei novels. QaF also was the first US media ever to show sex between two men on TV--in December 2000.
Yeah. We're not even 23 years out from that.
But of course, explicit sex scenes between two men or two women have existed long before that in yaoi, which itself draws from literary and artistic traditions across the world that have existed from ancient times, because gay people have existed from, y'know, ancient times.
I don't want to keep harping on AO, though. I hope they learn, and the posts were from over a year ago, so I'm hopeful they are in the process of doing so. Though I don't really keep up with them. The reason I also can't be too hard on AO was that even 7 or so years ago, I would have agreed with them about yaoi because I didn't know any better. And I was wrong, and I am still learning, and I hope I will continue to learn.
I'll again also reiterate that I do not care at all that Heartstopper has no sex in it; good for them because not all stories need it! Sweet, innocent stories have their place and can be just as powerful and necessary as those that are darker and more explicit. I just think declaring that a story's lack of queer sex is somehow revolutionary is ignorant at best and rewriting history at worst.
I'll leave off with this portion of an interview with the creators of the American QAF, who are themselves a married gay couple who have been together for like... 30? years. I'm bolding the parts I want to emphasize.
COWEN The first time we heard about Queer as Folk was in the Calendar section of the L.A. Times. The whole article was about [how] no one will ever have the g ts to do a show like this in the U.S. People thought [the US version] was going to be a much softer show than Russell’s [original British version], and we knew it had to be outrageous and more sexual. The sex on our show probably was the most political statement we made. Because we all grew up seeing gay people represented on TV — if they were ever represented — [as] eunuchs or clowns. We never saw gay people having a sex life or being complete people. We had a list of subjects that we were determined to write about because we grew up at a very inhospitable time in the U.S. Not just the Defense of Marriage Act and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, but we didn’t have gay marriage here until 10 years after the show ended.
LIPMAN ... We wanted our Queer as Folk to be a celebration of being. We saw movies and TV shows where gay people would hang themselves; they’d walk into the ocean to drown. We didn’t want any of that. We used the sex on the show to be joyous, angry, vindictive, self-destructive …
COWEN … and celebratory. There were so many topics that we needed to address because it was such a politically oppressive, scary time....
DUNN That also was the only representation that I saw: It was suicide or it was Disney villains. That was queer representation for me, and so seeing this show that was just so irreverent, so joyful, so sexual, so free, and it still dealt with the realities of being queer.
Every story is in a sense a product of its time, and it's not bad that Oseman is writing their story to address concerns they have and issues they deal with. It's just not inherently any more revolutionary and definitely not more inherently moral than queer media with sex in it.

I've recently read your write up on why "queerbaiting" as fandom uses it isn't a real thing in large-scale media production, and it was interesting and enlightening. Do you think there is any growing chance of more media execs learning about how fandom and online spaces use "queerbaiting" as a term and what they might think about it? And do you think there is a chance that the BL-type buddy cop dramas people in fandom are looking for will be created purposefully by Western companies?
--
Queerbaiting anon part 2: And do you or anyone else here have any idea about why things like the movie Bros wasn't widely watched by fandom-type people when on the surface it seems to play around with similar iddy tropes in romance circles that people would like?
Big Hollywood execs don't care about us because we're not numerous enough. That isn't likely to change.
Things like Heartstopper do demonstrate enough audience compared to budget to be viable. I think we'll continue to see more canon queer things, but they'll be in proven niches, like youth-oriented real world dramas.
I haven't seen Bros. My sense is that the level of cis gay male culture may not be what a lot of fandom is into. QAF did have a big fandom of slash fans, so that's not universal though.
It may have more to do with the fact that most single movies don't get much of a fic fandom. Serial media is what generates this type of engagement: gaps and then new canon. People who love straight fanfic also don't tend to write it for one-off romcoms. To the extent that those have a fandom at all, they get referenced in future romcoms or rewatched annually by fans.
I did hear about fandom watch parties for that gay Christmas movie. People were approaching it fannishly. They just weren't making it one of their fandoms, writing fic for it, or thinking about it more than 10 seconds after watching.

So it’s been pretty much a week now and having rewatched the first episode of Only Friends a couple of times, and before the next episode drops Saturday I wanted to ramble and put down some thoughts I can look back on about how much I love this show so far. (I know it’s only been 1 episode but fuck it.)
Firstly, I want to compliment the aesthetics of the show. The styling of sets and the characters are striking. Lighting, soundtrack, the colouring of the scenes. I’m no film student or anything, but for me it’s a good looking show. And I love the vibes. It has an edge beyond that of the BL tag in my mind. It’s got those QAF and Skins vibes as well as other shows about young adults we had here in the UK that I watched growing up, and I love it.
The sex stuff (+mature/toxic behaviour). I’m aware there are various opinions and comparisons. Too little, too much. This show vs that show/movie. There’s space for all kinds of shows/stories. You want fluffy sure, second turn on the right. Want trauma inducing and everybody dies, keep heading straight at the crossroads. You have the right to not watch and let others enjoy what they enjoy. Regardless of gender/sexuality humans are flawed. They screw up their own lives and other peoples, and they fuck (except those who don’t). Personally, I consume anything that’s entertaining and god damn Only Friends is entertaining.
Anyway, personally, I thought the sex fit in nicely to the story. And I say story because I’m not really one to just want to watch or read about people shagging for the sake of it. Actually, I once submitted a story to a publisher and (feeling like Up’s character in Lovely Writer here) they wanted me to up the heat and add more sex. For me, I need a purpose, even if the sex is the purpose. For example Boston in this episode. Fucking was the reason. It was part of his character. The scene was for his gratification not the viewers. I loved it being all rushed and frantic and there being only one goal - to come. And mixing it with Nick wanking and them climaxing at the same time. Genius scene to be honest. And to follow that up later with them actually getting together and the classic fade to black. We know what’s gonna go down - Nick’s hand down Boston’s pants that’s what 😃
Then we have Top and Mew, a very different scene - slower, more intimate. These characters have very different intentions. Top chasing the goal of Mew’s virginity. To succeed he needs to go steady, lull Mew in by making him feel good. And then Mew who’s maybe pushing his limits as to what he’s comfortable with. As a once virgin myself, I can’t argue with him wanting a little attention, some kisses, and some chest groping lol. But in the end, he cant go all the way, at least not with a one night stand, so the scene shifts. Top maybe pushes it, but I’m glad he ended up being a decent guy (at least in this moment) and accepted Mew wasn’t ready.
So characters.
No point in me hiding it but I’m here because of Khaotung, Neo and First. Khao has had my heart since 2gether. Neo got added to that list after TonhonChonlatee (sorry Tonhon but Na was where it was at lol) and then the trinity was completed with The Eclipse with First. So, high on my Eclipse feels I’m hit with the Only Friends trailer and it was an immediate ‘sign me up’. Since then, Mark did get my interest, loved him in MSP and MLC, and I’ve also got to know Book and Force more since A Boss and a Babe (sorry if any Enchante lovers see this - at the time I only watched ep 1 and it didn’t grab me so have yet to finish it - maybe one day lol).
The fact Khaotung is playing him is a big bonus but have to say RAY is currently my favourite character. I have a soft spot for the characters who seem to be dealing with baggage and I would assume binge drinking, and considering himself ‘unimportant’ are likely signs (along with other bits seen from the trailer). He seems like a dickhead but is actually a squishy baby who needs love and protection (mainly from himself). At least my take so far. I am worried about him and his lack of self preservation, he’s lucky Sand was a stand up guy because handing your phone, car and yourself over to a stranger is a terrible idea. He was passed out and defenceless and if Sand was looking to take advantage in some way, he could have been in real trouble. (Thinks about the sobbing scene in the trailer) I hope nothing bad has or will happen to him if he’s in such a drunken state again. It’s sad he would have just accepted Sand and him had had sex because Sand was hot.
Moving on to SAND. Though a bit aggressive in a ‘I’m so done with everybody’ kind of way, he seems to be a decent guy who just wanted to take a piss in peace lol. We didn’t get too much of him. He gave me mature and big bro vibes and was rubbing Ray’s back when he was retching over the loo - wonder if he’s done that for anyone else in his life? He was a bit standoffish to start (rightly so at some points) but seemed to soften up a bit when Ray was genuinely apologising and saying thanks to him. Also, the slight look/hesitation when Ray asked him if he knew him in the bathrooms. Does he? Even if from a distance? Can’t wait to see where these two go from here.
Next. BOSTON. Well, he certainly likes to get his end away. I don’t dislike him (yet). Screwing around doesn’t make you a bad person. Chasing after red wristbands might make you a little bit of a dick, but I’m generally less against the ‘third party’ and more judging the one who has a partner who is doing the cheating (though here it was more an open, we enjoy a threesome relationship he was getting entangled in). Anyway, I enjoyed Boston and his facial expressions, and his ‘hunting’. Will reevaluate when he starts breaking hearts.
And first in line to get his heart broken, NICK. Not sure our boy will be getting employee of the month snooping through customer phones and jerking off to their half naked selfies lol. He seems a nice enough guy, and as with all the characters it was a decent intro to him. I enjoyed the tension between him and Boston. He recognised him from uni it seems so maybe had his eye on him and finally got a chance to interact, which they certainly did. The preview already showed him getting attached so I’m ready for him to be heartbroken 💔
MEW. A seemingly precious baby who just wants to read his books and save his virginity for something more meaningful than a one night stand. Haven’t much to say about him at the moment as taking him at face value for now. But interested to see how he gets to the point of yeeting Boston into the pool in the trailer lol.
TOP. *narrows eyes* I have no idea if I trust him. He clearly had one mission at the start, but then based on his and Mew’s conversation over ice cream, and how it seems others only view him as the top of the top, a prize to hook up with, I did feel like he was genuinely surprised and intrigued by Mew stopping the hookup before sex. In his scene with Boston, he also said he wanted to date Mew, but because he found him interesting. I don’t know if it’s still a bit of a challenge to him to get Mew to date him because it’d be fun, so whether his goal is still to try and get laid and then he’d dump Mew and move on… We’ll see I guess *side eyes trailer*
(NAM?)CHEUM. Not too much of her but she fits in well as the fourth member on the main friend group. Would be interesting to see how they know each other and for how long. Guess we’ll have to wait and see if she gets a storyline of her own or if, as she had a red wristband on, it’ll be happy lesbian shenanigans now and again to contrast everyone else’s drama and her being there observing her friends self destruct.
Thinky thoughts going into the next episodes.
1. Please tell me the guy Yo is with in the intro is called Lo.
2. I’m wondering if Papang is playing Nick’s boss. Can’t remember the trailer scene setting well other than a laptop in front of them. Maybe he catches Nick and Boston on the cctv.
3. Top & Boston scene in the trailer. Could it be a flashback? Didn’t feel like a flashback but who knows. Assuming it’s not, I wonder what gets Top to a point where he can’t wait for Mew anymore and bangs Boston? Did they have a fight? Were they ‘on a break’? Did Mew pick Ray or something else over him? (I’ve seen the outfit analysing lol)
4. I’m gonna repeat here that I’m worried Ray will get himself in some real trouble getting blackout drunk. He has his arm in a sling in one scene in the trailer so there could be an accident or a fight. But he’s also a sobbing mess and Mew comforting him and well… I hope he stays safe.
5. Interested to see who and how Title’s character will tie into what’s going on. Pilot trailer implied he’s a friend/worked at the bar with Sand.
6. Nick already got them heart eyes. Poor boy’s gonna suffer. But props for the bold move of sending Boston that photo.
7. Oh yeah, Drake! I’d gone with it maybe being Papang out of the cast we knew about from the trailer. Well done to the people who were like ‘that’s Drake’ lol. I had joked about hoping they just brought in a whole bunch of the gmmtv boys to play one night stands or drunken kisses on the dance floor so I’m one for one for boys and episode so far lol.
8. Mew hiding behind and pushing Cheum towards a vomiting Ray in the first scenes was everything lol.
9. Ray’s outfits 😍
10. They did pretty well covering up The 1975’s poster in Sand’s apartment as had to go see when I saw someone point it out (I can’t imagine trying to edit around moving, talking characters)
11. I feel sad that Ray cared more about his belongings than himself.
12. Sand’s ‘I am so done’ face. Especially when Top ‘borrowed’ his mic.
13. And about that. Public propositions like that are a hell no from me. I’d hate to be cornered like that. I mean it’s okay if you’re going to say yes I suppose. But what if it’s not a yes? Like what do you do in front of everyone. Say no and look like the asshole?
14. Top washed his hands after going to the bathroom. Top tier indeed.
15. That intro sequence going from one character to the next - very cool. Also the days of the week montage.
16. Dear Ray, please don’t throw up again. *lowers volume a little bit* 🤢
17. Props to the friends wanting to turn the theory business plan of a hostel into the real thing. I think I’d be Boston in the group and just be dragged along and agree to whatever lol.
18. That intro is definitely a non-skip. Everybody be looking damn fine!
19. Watching everyone’s expression regarding Ray, Mew and Top. Boston knows Ray likes Mew and damn if he doesn’t seem to enjoy poking at him. Also at one point I started to wonder if there was anything else beyond jealousy between Ray and Top. Probably just Ray having had some drinks so reacting in no way subtly lol. And then Mew’s expressions when Ray leaves both times. Does he know? Is he just concerned his friend is storming off and drinking? Hmm.
20. Let Ray and Boston kiss you cowards lol
Bring on episode 2.
#firstkhaotung#only friends series#forcebook#neomark#sandray#bostonnick#topmew#khaotungg#first kanaphan#it’s only been one episode#but fuck if I’m not enjoying it#it’s going to be a long wait each week#Ray is my precious baby

Hello and happy new year, i hope you’re doing good and that you had a good NYE.
Here are just some highlights from what you’ve missed in the latest episodes of ‘My brother is an idiot’.
In case you wondered how we spent NYE, let me tell you that originally we were gonna go to a bar with our neighbor and socialize but she got sick, so my brother changed plans and made her watch 3x08. That’s right, he calculated when to watch the episode so that Britin reunion happened exactly at midnight. We entered 2024 with Lover’s spit, ngl it was both amazing and impressive. And the clock went midnight right as the song started/their iconic reunion happened and we all yelled ‘AYYYEEEE HAPPY NEW YEAAAAR’ He also showed her 3x14 and not to anyone’s surprise, the ending still makes him cry.
Also a very important update: THE CAST IS OFF!! He walked out of the office and literally put a fist into the air like a dumbass and then looked at THE ENTIRE WAITING ROOM, pointed to his fist and went ‘I’m back, baby!!’ And then to me ‘I almost put that Proud song on to play it so I could walk out all dramatic and put my fist in the air like in that movie.. But I’m too fucking traumatized by that song cause of the finale so just imagine it for the experience okay?’
Btw our dad is coming in on Wednesday so that he can spend some time with us and then go home with my brother. So naturally my brother has spent the last day and a half going through episodes to decide which ones to show him. I fear my dad might strangle him when he realizes he’s being tricked into watching qaf. But i am curious what his reaction is going to be and which episodes he picks.
And the most important thing that I actually thought will be avoided: about 2 days ago, I left him at 10.30 pm to go to sleep. He was reading fan fiction and at the same time watching fan videos of Gale and Randy which…okay, go off. Please try and guess what the fuck happened next because i can guarantee you, you’re gonna be wrong.
He came into my room and woke me up out of nowhere and i asked what’s up, thinking it’s some emergency. And i can see on my clock that it’s like 4.45 am and he’s crouching next to me, holding the laptop, turns it towards me to show me some random site while almost blinding me and then whisper yells at me ‘this Hal dude is or was a fucking prick! What the fuck did Gale and Randy ever do to him? And why the fuck did those two old dudes hate Randy?!’ And then he just got up and walked out (leaving the door open because of course) and just says to himself or me ‘they did nothing and he’s acting shadier than a fucking palm tree!’ I woke up the next day, genuinely sure that I dreamt that and I come to the living room and he’s in the same position as I left him in and he goes ‘oh this dude is lowkey annoying, i just read this post from a convention and he doesn’t know how to let other people talk, why did he answer a question about gays and his gay friends when Randy was asked as a gay man? And I didnt know those writers sucked so much, they looked like they got along at that gay panel but apparently they hated each other? By the way do they still do these conventions?’ All this was said to me in one long ass breath, right as i woke up. Felt like a fever dream ngl. He was practically bouncing off the walls because of how much coffee he drank because he stayed up all night reading up on Gale and Randy and anything qaf related he found. He even found old Gale interviews from The Advocate and later found out Gale was also in a motorcycle crash and he texted that to our mom saying that clearly that means they’re soulmates of some kind and she just replied ‘or that you’re both stupid <3’
He said that after he finished his fics, he started watching videos and then he went to check bts videos and interviews and he looked all that up and got war flashbacks because they just asked whatever they wanted in the old 00’s tabloid era. And that somehow lead to him finding a link to a fan forum or something and then he just spiraled. He said that when he saw Hal being shady, it was either wake me up and tell me OR wake up our parents..
oh and during this all nighter he also put together a playlist that he named ‘Bri Bri in a nut (ha) shell’ and it’s songs from the show that he thinks fit Brian best. So now he goes back and forth between the playlists depending on his mood and how much he misses Brian. I created a monster and you all helped me. Thank you very much
Dear sweet anon!
I am so sorry for the delay in responding. I haven't been on tumblr because the new stuff at my job is cutting into ALL MY PRECIOUS SCROLLING TIME.
(And fic writing, so sorry everyone!)
NGL I am high key impressed that he figured out how to time the episode so that Lover's Spit was playing when the clock struck midnight. That is some dedication. What time does one need to start the episode for that to happen?
Congratulation to your brother on getting the cast off! I'm so glad he can return to making the ally fist.
But oh nooooo, he has fallen down the rabbit hole of the bts and what has been shared and pieced together and what can be observed. But couldn't he have sent you a voice memo rather than waking you up?
I'm curious if he has any fic recommendations for the fandom? And, also, what is in his Bri Bri playlist?
I like your mom's response to your brother's belief that both him and Gale being in motorcycle accidents makes them soulmates. Maybe they could be soulmates for another reason. Your brother could kiss Randy, for instance.
I hope your 2024 is lovely so far! I can't wait to hear your dad's reaction to being ambushed with QAF.

honestly i have sooo much to say about everything wrong with queer as folk and the l word, like, truly i feel like even saying my complaints bluntly would be underselling how awful the issues get (extremely white shows, straight up grooming ocntent in QAF, transphobia but well and ill intentioned)
but i do think watching them (primarily QAF but TLW with friends) as my primary Formative Gay Media along with liek... shit tier anime really spoiled me in a good way
like they showed me real, adult, uncensored stories that didn't hold my hand
and the anime at the time showed me how balls to the wall things can get
so like... i don't have to settle for the twee shit and go "well it's gay!!!!!!" like... that does not satisfy
and now we have like... media that is more good and less "if you brace yourself for x, y, z, it's worth it"
so... it's especially bad to be like "WELL I NEED MY AMAZON SLOP"
like log off of your parents subscriptions, go pirate a movie from 1997 that is more accessible than ever and go through the emotional journey of experiencing actually bold story telling, as flawed as it is, or like... read a book written by an actual gay person in 2024 and isn't from a committee of 50 people trying to calculate how much diversity they can include (not write well, just like, have on screen) without scaring off a large audience
#i'm not even rly an 'own voices' die hard#but i tihnk more of you need that in your life#if you want casual but explicitly gay stories#watch a thai BL or something!!#if you want fantasy gay shit WATCH THE UNTAMED

im working on something qaf au
Everything Buck does feels like it’s straight out of a movie. The way he presses lightly on Eddie’s chest so he’ll fall back on the bed, how he rips open the packet of lube with his teeth, how his smile makes Eddie go pliant where he was otherwise tense.

everything you said about gifs is so valid! maybe it's my age (30) but i absolutely still search the tags for gifs after watching a new episode of my show or watching a movie. gif makers do deserve more appreciation though, and you in particular are so so talented! so thank you so much for everything you do! also, your banner is everything, i love qaf ❤️
hey anon!
aww, tysm you're so kind, i will be a brian kinney girlie for life 💛
i honestly do the same and i don't think age should have anything to do with it, i will go to the tags because it's not physically possible to follow every person and expect to see every gifset that is posted on my dash.
from experience when you enter a new fandom you don't always know who to tag, (i still don't lol) apart from the show so you rely on people looking in the tags for engagement. i mean that is the whole point of them, it's how you find blogs and make friends.
all the love to gifmakers out there always, god's strongest soldiers and to people like yourself who support and are appreciative of the time and effort it takes for us to make them <3

One of the strangest and most depressing things about streaming old(ish) contemporary media (as in, from the 90s and early 00s) that originally came out on DVD is loss of music rights.
In 2020 while recovering from top surgery I rewatched Queer As Folk for the first time in a decade, but I had long since given my DVDs to a friend, so I watched it on amazon.
By far one of my favorite scenes that is intensely affected by the musical score is the scene at the very end of season 1 when Justin is gay bashed and then there are a series of shots of him being loaded into/out of an ambulance, Michael getting Brian's phone call, and Brian and Michael waiting in the hospital while Brian cries. And over all of this is Parce Mihi Domine by Jan Garbarek & The Hilliard Ensemble, an absolutely beautiful piece of music.
But evidently the rights to that song have been lost, and instead it has been replaced with some unidentifiable royalty-free song with violins and choral background and a woman vocalizing.
It's something that I think doesn't really get talked about, but music selection for movies/television shows usually isn't done arbitrarily. Music is a huge part of creating atmosphere in a scene, conveying mood or even giving a scene an underlying symbolism or metaphor. And in a show like Queer As Folk, where a huge percentage of the show takes place in clubs or bars, music selection is really, really important.
Also, the scene that uses Parce Mihi Domine is the final scene of the season finale of the first season. The song was chosen for maximum emotional impact so that viewers will remember the scene and remember the show and want to come back to it.
It worked. I'm pretty sure Parce Mihi Domine was one of the first songs off the QAF soundtrack that I downloaded onto my ipod.
But now, unless they're watching the DVD (or a pirated stream maybe), a viewer is not going to get the same experience, with the same musical impact. (This is not the only song that was replaced on the QAF soundtrack, btw.)
I just find it so sad, and it's just another small detail within the layers of not owning media.

Writer’s Comfort List;
Comfort food(s): Sushi, Soups and Sandwiches.
Comfort drink(s): Coke (the cola hurrr), I drink it like I’m in a desert and it’s the only thing to drink, rip.

Comfort clothing: 90’s Attire is my usual style. Oversized shirts over above knee work out shorts is my comfort lol.
Comfort song(s): Everytime we Touch, Upside Down, Rainbow Connection, Kokomo, really upbeat 80s-early 2000’s euroclub, (anything abba, old school country, i even listen to japanese trap, sea shantys, doomer russian music and used to go to metal shows lmao, so i like a really big weird variety. don’t pass me the aux unless you wanna hear 1800s gregorian monk chants followed up by a dolly song).
Comfort book(s): Garfield Comics & random old sci-fi/high fantasy books that nobody else cares about. (Lore Olympus is my guilty pleasure.)
Comfort game(s): FALLOUTTTT ALL OF THEMMM. Dragon Age, ESO. Pretty much any RPG that’s not a JRPG I’ll try and probably like.
