.hack//sign episode 2 review:
I love how the detail it cleared up was something I thought I knew, only to be different.
The World appears to be some kind of simulation rpg, not in the sense of a virtual simulation (which it is), but rather in the sense of having a lot of freedom to do whatever. It probably has a ton of menus we aren't seeing. But I do like we don't see any of that.
Anyway Tsukasa is trapped and anything he does or has done to him inflicts real harm. That's pretty spicy when everyone else is just playing a game. I'm surprised I've not seen that in other stuff.
I love that we haven't gone outside bar that shot from ep. 1

.hack//sign episode 11 review, 'Party':
Bear mapping out the dungeon by hand only to mess up the design because he didn't account for the chance of warp areas? Peak.
Bee Train making the most highly specific references imaginable? Peak
Mysterious person turning off a life support system- hey wait wait wait wait wait wait wait.
This is a current event, not a flashback. Besides the cut or two to Mimiru irl, these have been preodminately Tsukasa flashbacks. Not current events.
WAIT FUCK LET ME GO BACK TO EPISODE 1.
For some inane reason I though that the knocked over person was Silver Knight due to them taking real damage from the Guardian. I don't know why I thought this but since these flashbacks are 95% Tsukasa, that would actually mean that this is him.
Since the flashbacks and also
Which beggars a whole new question I'm not going to ask because I genuinely fucking didn't even notice it beforehand.
That's a skirt.
does. Tsukasa have a fucky relationship with gender?

.hack//sign episode 4 review:
We're going on a bear hunt, and by that I mean bear hunted down Tsukasa.
Trans Tsukasa feels pretty viable, but we can couple it with those b/w irl shots for it to be smth like 'thats an abusive father who wanted her to be born a boy or smth'. That supposition comes around a bit.
I like Bear. He's neat. I like his dynamic with Mimiru.
Shame the guardian isn't listening to Tsukasa yet, he needs a good day because I don't think he's had one yet.
this review is a mess bc im fading in and out of consciousness at 1.30am

.hack//sign episode 3 review:
Hey we've got our cast finally all coming together. To something.
Tsukasa being super proud of being able to control their guardian, something they should have been able to do from the word go is also amusing.
It's super fun how there's so little fighting, this is a very dialogue driven show for being set in an mmorpg

.hack sign episode 1 review:
Chat, i think my guy is dead irl, partially amnesiac and stuck in an mmo. I'd ask is he okay but generally being dead and stuck in a video game is bad and even if it's good for you, that's a Bad thing.
He's going to need to learn to talk to literally anyone for more than two sentences for things to get a little better.
I have no idea where this is going.

.hack//sign, episode 26, Return, review:
That episode wrapped up like everything except for the 3 new Things that happened in the last 5 seconds what the fuck.
There are OVAs to see so that might help.
Pretty good series though uhhh thoughts later.

.hack//sign episode 25 'Catastrophe' Review:
Bee train animating a fight scene on the budget of a ham sandwhich.
Crim wins against Sora unsurprisingly, Macha performs a heroic sacrifice for reasons and then Subaru, Tsukasa and Mimiru get sent off to the Next World to be focus characters of the finale.
Bear talking to Tsukasa about IRL stuff is really neat and also is a nice followup to their first conversation about this topic. Indirectly confirming Bear was correct.

.hack//sign episode 22 'phantom' review:
Balmung was the emptiest reveal ever.
Big fan of the Silver Knight being entirely lost, he lost his main purpose he'd had for playing, and then getting helped out by Crim.
Sora in the hell dimension, who will he PK?
Finally Tsukasa awakens. It's fair he took so long because he got.... idk what that was but it was bad.
The Harold and Aura stuff feels weak, there's like 4 episodes left, I stopped caring about the mystery girl ages ago. This is the biggest problem with the slowness.
You could probably cut each episode in half and make this a 13 episode series and it'd still work fine. The music is good but Bee Train are certainly stretched thin.

.hack//sign, episode 21 'despair' review:
Nothing bad happened to Tsukasa this episode. Help him.
Not much to say here besides continuing to really like Crim and Subaru. Giving a girl a phone number and calling it a spell is extremely chuuni but also fantastic. We already knew this, but referring to it is fun.
RIP that squad that lost to a bugged monster and then got player killed by Sora.

.hack//sign episode 19, 'Recollection' review:
Yeah, so very much cementing Subaru and Crim as my favourites unless some real wham stuff happens.
I knew there had to be some dependency on the world for Subaru, but that reveal shot at the end of the episode was so good. I like Crim having One Person he'll confide in and it's someone he effectively mentored.
Subaru can take it, but it's made rougher by how much time she's invested and the general consensus of the crimson knights.

.hack//sign episode 18, 'Declaration' review:
LET'S GO SUBARU!
I really like her and Crim. Not together, just individually, I think they're my faves.
Subaru has been in this trapped position of stuck in a leadership role she no longer wants, whilst being denied power. She views herself as having none, which is naive, but she's also not wrong due to her position.
I feel like there's something on the outside that would really enforce the foil too, a reason she's been playing so long as for the sunk cost fallacy to kick in (in regards to the crimson knights) more than Crim, who leaves for work purposes every now and then (and seperates the game from IRL).

.hack//sign, episode 17 'conflict' review:
OH THAT WAS A REALLY GOOD EPISODE.
BT chiding Mimiru for not seperating the game from reality only to be doing it herself. That was some sick stuff.
I really like the read that Subaru feels trapped, because she keeps saying 'i didn't think you'd come' because she doesn't actually think people would be compelled to see her, the crimson knights doesn't play into her own genuine sense of self as a person.
The Silver Knight also calling BT jealous and envious correctly, for the entirely wrong reason also ruled. Love this.

.hack//sign, episode 15 'evidence' review:
Ok my brain was gone after episode 14, but how dare you follow up an episode with that much setup and such a dramatic finish with a RECAP EPISODE!! Aaaaaaa how dare you lmao.
I was looking forward to a little answer for some of the 7000 questions the previous episode raised lol

.hack//sign episode 14 'castle' review: Brain too tired to write. Sudden platformer change is just like real mmos. Crim really wanted to say all the cool lines and this annoys Sora lol. This episode answered nothing. Ending sure was.

.hack//sign, episode 13 'Twilight Eye' review: Everyone was in that episode :) They're all looking for the key in different ways and pseudo-independently. That's fun.
Tsukasa nearly had a good day. Big fan of Crim not committing until he knows. He's probably one of my favourite characters. I still can't deduce what is up with the cat.
