Check your knowledge of the North Korean lifestyle with this little quiz.
Did you know, that:
If you were imprisoned for 30 years and you died after serving 25 years, one of your relatives will have to serve the remaining 5 years.
Porn films are forbidden; the punishment is the death penalty.
The Internet is forbidden, but if you have connections in the government and you have a special permission, then you can access the Internet, but only inside the country.
You can’t choose your profession: Your profession is chosen by the government, based on the country's needs. Those who do not comply, are sent to concentration camps for forced labor.
It is forbidden to travel abroad. To travel within the country, one requires a permission.
Protests are prohibited; the punishment is the death penalty. In exceptional cases, if lucky, one could be locked up for just 20 years.
Government-organized rallies are compulsory to attend. One must show devotion and emotion when participating. Not enough emotion is punishable; can be beaten up immediately by the guards or prosecuted and thrown in jail.
Citizens can’t own a car. But if you have connections in the government, then you can have a car, under a special permission. Pyeonghwa Motors has the exclusive rights to production, purchase, and sale of new and used cars in North Korea.
1 in 25 citizens of the country is a soldier. North Korea has the 4th army in the world. Men are universally conscripted while women undergo selective conscription. Kids register for draft at 14, then 2 rounds of physical examination are done at 15 or 16 (draftees must be at least 148/4’8” cm tall and weigh at least 43 Kg/95 lbs). At the age 17, teens get conscripted and serve until they turn 30. (Kids of the elites are exempt from the military service. Politically disloyal are also exempt.)
The capital Pyongyang is inhabited exclusively by the most loyal servants of the regime and the rich. Entry into Pyongyang is forbidden to ordinary citizens. 3 million out of 26 million of the population of North Korea live in Pyongyang.
Religion and everything connected with it is forbidden. Possession of the Bible can be punished by death.
Christmas and New Year celebrations are prohibited.
There are only 18 women's and 15 men's officially allowed haircuts. It is forbidden to have an improper haircut, as well as to dye or curl your hair. Hair cannot be longer than shoulder length (for women only).
Blue jeans are prohibited. Only black jeans can be worn. Shorts and mini skirts are prohibited. Police strictly monitors this.
Calling abroad is prohibited. If you have relatives abroad and you decide to call them, you will be executed.
Any tattoos and piercings are prohibited.
Condoms are prohibited in North Korea. Condoms are officially considered ‘indecent items,’ so the North Korean customs won’t let them in. North Korean national leader Kim Jong Un encourages a higher birthrate in the country, “so that Korea has more socialist workers.”
Abortions and any birth control are prohibited.
It is forbidden to listen to foreign music; punishable by prison. You can only listen to domestic music with patriotic texts.
If you decide to escape from the country, your whole family will be prosecuted. They could be sentenced to death.
Those who assist in escaping the country are punished by death penalty.
Feminine sanitary pads and tampons are not available in the North Korean market. Women use the old-school reusable pads, which they are expected to reuse by washing after use.
Suicides are prohibited. If one commits suicide, the whole family is punished.
Citizens are not allowed to have the same name as the current president. So, everyone was made to change their names by law.
Penalties for drug offences are severe and parole is unlikely. Drug traffickers can get indefinite jail sentences.
Coca-Cola is not sold and is banned in North Korea.
The ‘3 Generation Punishment Law’ is undoubtedly the most cruel law that exists in North Korea. The law is exactly what it sounds like. If any person commits a crime, it means that, except for him, all his relatives in 3 generations will be punished. This law applies to political crimes. For example, if you insult the Supreme Leader, you will face consequences that will affect not only you, but also your grandparents, parents and children. Entire families are publicly executed for very minor crimes. This law also applies to labor camps: if someone decides to escape, family members will take their place. Children born in prison are raised as prisoners because their “blood is guilty”.
Recently, a 2-year-old was sentenced to life in prison in North Korea. His parents had a Bible in their apartment. The parents were sentenced to death. Moreover, the sentence was carried out in public and shown on TV.
North Korean leader 39-year-old Kim Jong-Un with his 35-year-old sister Kim Yo-jong, who serves as the Deputy Department Director of the Publicity and Information Department of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Foreigners are not an exception to the rules: They must abide by the North Korean laws.
If a foreigner tries to take something out of the country with no permission, the punishment is up to 20 years in prison.
Insulting a state symbol or the Supreme Leader is punishable, depending on the severity, from 20 years in prison and up to execution.
Not allowed to drink (or smoke) around political or revolutionary sites. It will be considered as insulting the state symbol (see above).
It's illegal to take photos of anything other than designated public tourist sites. This includes: roads and bridges; airports; rail stations; ports; government buildings; scenes of poverty; anything that may give a negative impression of North Korea. Foreigners are advised to ask the North Korean guide for permission before taking photos.
It's also illegal to talk to North Koreans without authorisation. Authorities may consider it spying if you do.
You can't use ATMs, traveller’s cheques, or debit and credit cards.
It's illegal for foreigners to:
Bring items that may be seen as religious, pornographic or political.
Not declare published material or electronic devices when entering North Korea.
Knowingly or unknowingly possess items that breach North Korean law.
Show disrespect or make jokes about North Korea, current or former leaders or their families.
Engage in an unauthorized currency transactions.
Shop at stores not designated for foreigners.
Wander around unaccompanied by the assigned North Korean guide.
Have local currency (North Korean Won). Foreigners can't use it.
TÚLZÁS.
NEM TÚLZÁS.

The big player in the small market is Pyeonghwa Motors, a joint venture based in the industrial center of Nampo. It was set up in 1999, during one of the thaws in relations between North and South Korea. It was initially funded by Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church. Considering the late reverend’s vocal opposition to communism, that might seem an odd alliance, but he envisioned it as a way to foster long-elusive reconciliation between the longtime foes. The company’s name itself means “peace,” in Korean.

❝  WANG JACKSON is the TWENTY TWO year old HEAD of WANG who goes by the name CHEONGUK ❞  trigger warning ━ attempted rape !!
⇀ birth name: Wang Jia Er - only the second knows this. It is widely believed that Jackson is his birth name (by those who know him. Not necessarily his position. Lower members refer to him solely as Cheongguk, and do not know his identity otherwise)
⇀ fc choice: Wang Jackson ( GOT7 )
⇀ canon: The Icarian
⇀ alias: Cheongguk
⇀ age: 22. 24 Korean. March 28, 1994
⇀ group: Wang
⇀ occupation: the head, owner of Faux Paix, bartender
⇀ sexual orientation: heterosexual. But maybe aliens too
⇀ languages: Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, English
⇀ height / weight: 175 cm / 5’9” // 65 kg / 143 lbs
⇀ defining features: muscular, especially muscular thighs; tramp stamp wang tattoo ( it was a dare from Amber, don’t question it ); blonde; obsidian coloured eyes
⇀ personality:
Wang is Jackson’s family. Mess with them, and he will 100% guarantee that you regret it. You may not realize it, but behind the smiles and blank stares, he’s carefully concocting the most painful and untraceable death he can for you. And oh, you will die. Whether it’s by the sabre he wields that seems to appear out of nowhere, by torture, or by “suicide,” you will be eradicated, and quite possibly sold in the organ market. He isn't afraid to utilise his hackers, his hitmen, his dealers.
Anyone - or near enough, anyway - is welcome to join Wang, be they man or woman, skilled or unskilled. They will become his family, and together they will strive to become the most powerful syndicate in Korea. They already are notorious. Jackson’s determined to increase that notoriety to an international level, to put it out there that no one can mess with them.
And then he will absolutely demolish his father.
⇀ personality tl;dr:
like a really aggressive older brother but cool with everything at the same time
ambitious
cocky
vindictive
rash
foolhardy
seems dense, but is actually extremely keen and manipulative in private
treats his gang like family
works himself to the bone
easily excitable
determined to rise to the top
guided by his own morals
prioritizes adaptability over organization
needs to be right; blunt
disorganized
⇀ history:
Jia Er has no mother. Not one that his father ever speaks about, anyway. Nor his uncle. He isn't sure where his year-younger brother came from exactly either.
Jia Er doesn't mind. He loves his father and uncle. They're strong and cool and everyone respects them.
(It’s not until later that he learns of their misogyny and that they aren't respected; they're feared. He finds out when he’s)
Seven. It’s after his birthday party, and Jia Er still has his red party hat with the golden sparkly polka dots on. His father decides to teach him of the trade.
His father sets Jia Er on a padded chair and brings out the goon whose blunder meant the cake arrived fifteen minutes late and beats him mercilessly.
Once the man is good and near dead, the head of Guowang approaches his son with a wicked smile and a glint of something sadistic in his eyes. “You are a Wang,” he says. “A king. One day you will take my throne, and it’ll be much grander than the one you're on now. Your crown - it will be grand and gold and everyone will respect and fear you.”
He turns and points to the bloody lump on the floor. “And you must deal with any failure from your subordinates harshly. They are mere subjects; you are the ruler.”
The sight of that red, red blood is burned to his eyelids, and the smell of iron and salt is burned to his nostrils.
Yiyun is the only one who knows of his growing hatred.
His father is a cruel, cruel man, one based on old tradition and a desire for power. He has no empathy, just a consuming lack thereof. He kills members of his syndicate without hesitation, and their families, if they are a minute late, or a dollar short of a deal they were tasked to execute. If it’s a female member, he prefers to have them raped, or, on “special occasions,” will rape them himself. Jia Er’s uncle is certainly no better.
Jia Er begins to rebel. First, it’s drinking when his father isn't looking.
Next, he arrives late, leaves early, and hids his money.
Speaks to his father in Cantonese during strictly Mandarin or English occasions.
Looks at him in the eye a bit too long.
And that’s when Yiyun gets into trouble.
His father calls them into his office to be briefed for a drugs transfer, them, his prodigal duo. Yiyun makes eye contact with Jia Er for a split second, and his father catches it.
His father flies into an absolute fury.
“Don’t you dare look my son in the eye,” he hisses. “You worthless whore.” Then he orders, “get her down.”
Half an hour later, Jia Er is roped to a chair, thrashing about to try and break free. Yiyun reminds him of the man he was forced to watch when he was seven. She’s bloody and bruised, and certainly has more than one broken bone, and his father orders the nearest crony to rape her.
She screams, and it’s horrible and hoarse, indicative of how hard she’s been fighting, of how tired she is.
Jia Er breaks the ropes in a surge of absolutely monstrous strength, roaring.
He picks up the chair, smashes it to the floor, takes a leg, and cracks it over the crony’s head. As the large man crumples, Jia Er sticks up his knee to catch the man’s solar plexus, brings his elbow down the man’s back, right in the spine, and grabs the man’s arm over his back lightening quick, before yanking the arm back and dislocating the shoulder. The man bellows, but Jia Er doesn't stop until the man’s joints are torn from their sockets, and is certain to have a life threatening concussion.
He spits on the man like his father spit on Yiyun while beating her, and turns to face his pissed father.
The head of Guowang is enraged, but he lets it slide. Jia Er’s strength brings his father a sick pride, and if he can just hone it, Jia Er will have the makings of the finest leader their family, the country, the world will know.
Jia Er is far from finished with rebelling, however. He refuses the pilgrimage through the Qin mountains to the peak of Mt. Hua with very limited supplies with a sneer, refusing to take part in the tradition, and that’s when his father kicks him out of Guowang.
“You're blinded with your dog-like loyalty to that whore. I should've killed her,” are his last, rage-filled words to his son. “Get out.”
So he does, after digging up the money he’d hidden.
Jia Er and Yiyun leave for Korea. It’s nearby, and they speak the language because of various deals, and they change their names to Jackson and Amber.
Their classmates in Pyeonghwa National University are fooled by their perfect American-English accents when Jackson says that they're from California.
Jackson starts his coursework for a psychology degree, coming in as a second-year. He also founds Wang, and he and Amber are the first to be marked.
He tattoos her sign under her left boob. She tattoos his on his lower back
When classmates see it on a camping trip and shriek because of rumours flying around about a new gang in the crimson lotus, he grins sheepishly and says it was a dare from Amber - it was - and it’s his last name, that he was also freaked out when he heard about the gang. They accept it.
He graduates in 2017, and can finally spend all of his time managing the bar and more importantly, expanding Wang.

王 facts ━
王 personality ━
Wang is Jackson’s family. Mess with them, and he will 100% guarantee that you regret it. You may not realize it, but behind the smiles and blank stares, he’s carefully concocting the most painful and untraceable death he can for you. And oh, you will die. Whether it’s by the sabre he wields that seems to appear out of nowhere, by torture, or by “suicide,” you will be eradicated, and quite possibly sold in the organ market. He isn’t afraid to utilise his hackers, his hitmen, his dealers.
王 background ━
Jia Er has no mother. Not one that his father ever speaks about, anyway. Nor his uncle. He isn’t sure where his year-younger brother came from exactly either.
Jia Er doesn’t mind. He loves his father and uncle. They’re strong and cool and everyone respects them.
(It’s not until later that he learns of their misogyny and that they aren’t respected; they’re feared.
“A king. One day you will take my throne, and it’ll be much grander than the one you’re on now.
First, it’s drinking when his father isn’t looking.
The man bellows, but Jia Er doesn’t stop until the man’s joints are torn from their sockets, and is certain to have a life threatening concussion.
He spits on the man like his father spit on Yiyun while beating her, and turns to face his pissed father.
The head of Guowang is enraged, but he lets it slide. Jia Er’s strength brings his father a sick pride, and if he can just hone it, Jia Er will have the makings of the finest leader their family, the country, the worldwill know.
Jia Er is far from finished with rebelling, however. He refuses the pilgrimage through the Qin mountains to the peak of Mt. Hua with very limited supplies with a sneer, refusing to take part in the tradition, and that’s when his father kicks him out of Guowang.
“You’re blinded with your dog-like loyalty to that whore. I should’ve killed her,” are his last, rage-filled words to his son. “Get out.”
So he does, after digging up the money he’d hidden.
Jia Er and Yiyun leave for Korea. It’s nearby, and they speak the language because of various deals, and they change their names to Jackson and Amber.
Their classmates in Pyeonghwa National University are fooled by their perfect American-English accents when Jackson says that they’re from California.

❝ JEON JUNGKOOK is a TWENTY year old HACKER affiliated with the PPD who goes by the name WHITE_RABBIT ❞
⇀ birth name: Jeon Jungkook ⇀ fc choice: Jeon Jungkook / BTS ⇀ alias: white_rabbit (his online persona) ⇀ age: 20 ⇀ group: the PPD ⇀ occupation: hacker / IT for the PPD ⇀ sexual orientation: Bisexual ⇀ languages: Korean and English ⇀ height / weight: 5’11 (~180cm) ⇀ defining features: mole on the left side of his neck, boyish good looks, youthful face
⇀ personality:
At first glance, Jungkook seems like a regular guy. Yet, no one seems to know him extremely well. No one claims to be close to him. He’s secretive about his life. He tends to cover up his true self with humor. He doesn’t avoid people and many consider him to be a pleasant individual.
⇀ personality tl;dr: creative, reliable, friendly; insecure, sarcastic, immature
⇀ history:
Jungkook was born to normal citizens of Pyeonghwa City. He lived with his older brother, mother, and father. His father was an avid gambler. He would often spend long nights at illegal gambling rings.
Jungkook was always interested in computers and enjoyed reading books about coding. At the age of 13, he was already developing websites for small businesses. He wasn’t necessarily a child prodigy, but he spent most of his time exploring his interests. He eventually became interested in online security, which led him to explore the world of hacking.
When Jungkook was finishing up high school, his brother was involved in drug trafficking and became affiliated with the Wang. Once his brother joined a gang, he persuaded Jungkook to join as well. However, Jungkook refused with the excuse that he has other plans for his future. At this point, their mother became fed up with the amount of debt her husband acquired. She left their father and took Jungkook and his older brother with her. Most of their income came from the drugs his older brother would sell.
Gangs naturally wanted to expand their empire online since everyone’s lives are becoming intertwined with the internet. Knowing Jungkook is an expert on these things, his brother asked him to help the gang spread their black market to the online world. Jungkook was fully capable of these things, but he refused on the grounds that it’s impossible. Of course, his brother believed him because he was never an expert on computers. Jungkook didn’t want blood on his hands and didn’t want to put any of his family in danger. His brother was later killed by a member of a rival gang. After the funeral, Jungkook would make the decision that would change his life. It’s still not clear why he decided to go through with this. A police officer had visited his house to pay condolences as well as ask his mother some questions about the situation. The officer also had some personal words for Jungkook.
He joined the police force to fight crime online on the grounds that he remains purely anonymous. By day, he simply poses as an independent IT contractor for the PPD.
