CHAPTER 8 HOLY SHIT

DUDE

Bravo is so angry and so so wrong about how things work, he just walks in and expects to be accepted with open arms by people he’s never met before after he explains that he spawned in the Overworld and Tango did in Hels. Like, do you actually think people will care about that? They don’t know you. They’ve never even heard of you before and some of them have known Tango for the entire 10 years that he’s been out of Hels, no matter what you tell them they know that he’s not evil because they know him, they know his character, the kind of person he is.

The fucking entitlement of this man to just waltz in and claim this should be his life and his friends and his soulmate because according to him Tango is just Evil Bravo and anything Tango has achieved in his years outside of Hels was somehow stolen from Bravo. Hate to break it you man but I can assure you that had you guys never been swapped you would have lived a very different life from the one Tango has, you’re assuming that a lot of stuff “corresponds” to you that really just doesn’t.

Ok… I’m done… with the Bravo rant, not with the ask.

THE FACT THAT JIMMY COULD FEEL TANGO’S EMOTIONS THROUGH THAT WHOLE THING, OMG, THAT WAS SO GOOD! I was also pretty relieved when I realized that Jimmy was using the soulbond to read Tango cause he could tell Tango was being genuine about a lot of things and was actually seriously terrified of what was going on in a way that being confronted by your doppelgänger you supposedly wronged really shouldn’t be enough to cause. He could tell a lot of stuff was wrong and that he was missing a lot of context. There was never a risk of Jimmy falling into the same trap Bravo did of thinking of Hels players as inherently deceptive and malicious because he could tell that Tango was telling the truth right now, he could tell that Tango felt really bad about what happened and genuinely didn’t mean to trap Bravo. There might be hurt feelings and doubts in the future but in the moment, that connection through emotions I think was what kept Jimmy mostly centered on the important things. They’re really gonna need to talk after this. All of them. Man.

I was so scared when the attack started, I was not prepared. I probably should have been, considering Bravo walked in already with potions on him (I don’t actually remember if we see him taking the potion at the end of last chapter) but I didn’t even realize it was a potion. I read ‘particles’ and thought “huh, that’s weird” and moved on, I didn’t actually expect him to be ready for a fight. I did not even think he’d have back up so soon, from the way that the last chapter ended I kinda thought he was gonna scout the area by himself before it all went down. It wasn’t until the others rushed in also with ‘particles’ surrounding them that I realized that they were potions and it downed on me that this was an ambush.

It was so scary just sitting there, waiting for reinforcements that may or may not arrive. It was so stressful, especially cause we don’t really know the layout of this version of Double Life so we don’t know how far away everyone is. I could feel the dread as this just kept going and no one arrived and Jimmy couldn’t do anything about it cause it’s a 1v15 or something like that and Jimmy’s not very good at pvp anyway. So when the sound of the horn came from over the hill I was so so happy you have no idea, I actually screamed outloud along with them in a battle cry (I’m so glad I had the house empty lol). Endgame who? Never heard of her. This is the best last-minute-save in the history of cinema. I don’t care it’s not a movie, shut up.

Also! An interesting realization! In this chapter I have finally identified the main difference between Timmy and Jimmy. It is partly that Timmy is definitely more pathetic that Jimmy but, more importantly is that, unlike Timmy, who just gives up in the face of something/one stronger than him, Jimmy is a fighter. It doesn’t matter how big the threat or obstacle is, it doesn’t matter how certain he is that’s he’s gonna lose, he will never lay down and take it, even when he’s painfully aware that he’s going down he makes sure to go down kicking and screaming gods damn it. You gotta respect the man for that.

Speaking of Timmy, HE’S BACK! THE BOY IS BACK! PATHETIC WET CAT WITH FEATHERS! I MISSED YOU! I don’t think he’s gonna be very happy when he realizes he’s acting as replacement for some guy named Jimmy though fhfbfgfgf. On that note, d— did… does Bravo like Jimmy? Like, like like him? He described him as having a smile like the sun… and that line at the end, “If he can’t have the sun, he’ll learn to love its shadow,” (which btw is INSANE, that line is so freaking good!!!)… he liked Jimmy didn’t he? That’s awkward.

I’m glad Bravo is out of the grasp of Hels Tek and I hope it stays that way. Maybe hanging around Timmy will do him some good, both in realizing that not everyone in Hels is inherently evil and that Hels players are their own people, not just evil copies of their Overworld counterparts. Maybe he’ll enjoy Timmy’s company for Timmy, and not for what he thinks he can see of Jimmy on him.

Atlas is gonna be in so much trouble with Alisker. I hope it hurts. On the downside, that means they’ll be back. They might even figure out a way to open a portal without Bravo (looks at the collar suspiciously) which would be terrifying.

bravo is horribly misinformed and has just. the WORST coping skills. over the years, tango has become his personal scapegoat for every misfortune that ever befell bravo. he’s convinced that if he and tango had never swapped places, his life would be perfect right now. which, as you said, is absolutely not the case. if he can’t realize and accept this, he’ll never be happy.

the soul bond was a neat and convenient way to sneak in a bit of tango’s perspective even tho the chapter was from jimmy’s pov, i’m SO glad it was effective.

and mannnn yeah the thing about jimmy is that like. yes he’s a sopping wet pathetic cat, cringefail loser ect ect who dies first every time, but every time he goes out fighting. he never stops trying until the bitter end and i wanted to reflect that here even if his pvp skills couldn’t stand up to a paper bag. he’ll let other players sorta push him around and make jokes at his expense but when the shit hits the fan, he always fights. this is the main difference between him and timmy, who will just roll over and die at the slightest provocation.

Partially also bc of how it started with etoiles giving up on the 2-on-1 and telling his team that he needed help and then nobody really being able to respond because of the voice bug 😭 so I was already tense before Soaring joined him and they started chasing Bad

LIKE in a regular match sure etoiles kills bbh every time, but like this is purgatory, a win for bbh is bbh escaping. he isn't staying around to pvp!! and it really looked like bbh was going to escape again!!!!!!! (i say this lovingly i think bbh's escape artist habits rule and is probably the best way to combat actual pvp if you do not have the sheer skill like a regular pvper). the voice bug def helped screw over blue, but i was worried the same as you ToT i thought etoiles was going to get 2v1'd again. the fact soarinng managed to get over to etoiles and work with him with less vc was kinda crazy. just crazy plays all around. cinema to me. i'll go back and clip it later.

Listen I love all of the duos in double life but nothing will beat the two wet cats summoning Ranchers Revenge.

⚡️most cinematic death?

I’ll do one for each series:

Third life: scar and grian’s final deaths. Just everything about that storyline ending with friends fighting to death in a cactus ring, surrounded by the ghosts of their fallen allies and enemies. There is so many ways you can picture their deaths going.

Last life: I think the lead up to Joel’s death is the most cinematic death to me. Joel and Grian doing their best to kill the other players, slowly one by one people fall until it’s just Joel alone with Ren and Scott. A pathetic plea coming from Joel to team, begging to not die only to be killed by Scott, foreshadowing his overall victory. The first red that shadowed over the server dies pleading to live.

Double life: Scott’s sacrifice for pearl to win. “Tilly death do us part” as Scott ignites tnt will always stick to me and Pearl’s last words being her yelling Scott’s name just struck to me. She couldn’t even get her final victory speech before dying.

Limited life: there’s a tie between Skizz’s final death and Martyn’s glass death. Skizz was doomed from day dot, him encouraging team TIES to continue on, to be killed by etho for time and the fact that he got his wish, for a member of TIES to which final three.

Now Martyn’s glass death might be a strange answer but something about him falling into the water below into shards of glass, invisible in the water and a newly red life Skizz witnessing it all it’s just peak cinema to me.

Secret life is still going but Torchy’s “death” man.

My serious answer is Fwhip. He was rumoured to being a possible player for double life if Skizz was in. I don’t think pvp and trap heavy smps is too much of his style at the moment but I think it would be really cool if he joined. He knows most of the members well enough that I think he could slip in easily like Gem.

My crack answer is Philza. I have made a giant post to why I think he would be perfect for a life series. Will it happen? Dear god no. Can I dream and read fics about it? Yes I can XD

On a more possitive note, I’ve started watching Sword Art Online. It’s one of the worst things I’ve ever seen (and the last film I saw in cinemas was Cats to give you context for the scale i’m working on here) and I kind of adore it in much the same way I love garbage like Smallville or Twilight. It’s so stupid on so many levels. You could challenge someone to write the worst anime, and it would almost certainly be better than SAO. It’s almost hypnotic how terrible it is.

No one should watch this terrible terrible show so I therefore don’t feel at all bad that I’m about the spoil absolutely everything, but honestly if you do also hate-watch this please come talk to me about how terrible it is. I don’t know anyone else who watches it.

Highlights of Season 1 include:

everyone is trapped in an MMO, and if you die in the MMO you die IRL. but if you were a beta-tester you’re probably fine because they just let them keep all their levels and items from the testing, so they’re all massively OP and everyone just accepts this as a normal and non-game-breaking thing

it’s a fantasy MMO but there’s no races, no magic system, no weapons except swords and maces, and not even an option to dual wield - literally all you can do in this fucking game is stand in front of an enemy and mash the attack button. I’m pretty sure they’re trapped there because the devs realised no one would play this post launch-day otherwise because it’s boring as shit

when the villain traps everyone he also just changs all their avatars to look like they do IRL for absolutely no reason, like actually none, he doesn’t even say he thinks it would be funny, he just does it and no one questions it and it is literally never mentioned again because this is the worst TV show ever animated.

in the second episode the main character deliberately witholds information about how to defeat a boss, indirectly causing multiple deaths. there is absolutely no reason for him to withhold it, he was just being a jerk because he doesn’t like people

in the third episode they reset his entire personality and he’s now a selfless hero pretending to be a lower level than he really is so people will find him more relateable and be his friend because all he wants is to help people. this is not a consequence of episode 2, they just decided they didnt like the character as he’d previously been written.

he makes some new friends who are all objectively terrible people who have decided for no season that the twelve year old who doesn’t really know how to play and keeps having anxiety attacks about the very real possibility of death has to be the guild tank. the MC is high enough level to be functionally immortal in like half the levels, but doesn’t tell anyone this he just lets them go on bullying this child

none of his friends survive that episode, in the game or IRL. which is also a christmas epsiode. a child dies in battle because she’s a terrible tank and then a man commits suicide out of guilt, so then the main character murders santa to try and bring them back from the actual dead but it doesn’t work because again, this is a video game and they are dead IRL, so then he walks off into the snow alone. Christmas!

we meet the best character in the entire show in episode 4, Rosalia, who has gone evil and started just straight murdering people because she’s sick of being an attractive adult woman who can’t get a date because she’s surrounded by lolicons who are only interested in the preteen characters (not a joke, that comes up, the show is firmly on the side of the lolicons)

in the same episode we get an extended bra and panty sequence staring an actual fucking child, like canonically this character is maybe 13 at best. this is one of only 2 occaisions when they feel the need to undress a character and it’s the fucking 12 year old, it’s so gross it reads like a parody of itself

literally every single named female character aged over 8 who talks to the MC falls in love with him after like 5 minutes (and in season 2 this includes his actual sister). he shows absolutely no interest in any of them (including his sister, thank god) until...

the main character gets engaged to a girl he only knows from an MMO after a virtual single date (he doesn’t actually win her in a PVP match but only because he looses the match, he 100% canonically tries to win her in a match, which she is apparently fine with). he then doesn’t bother to ask for her real name until the final episode, he just calls her by her screen name

(that’s okay though becuase it turns out that this moron of a love interest used her real name, on a local server, in a game where your character looks like you do IRL, because apparently getting doxxed is her hobby)

they then get in-game married off screen. there’s not even like a still of a wedding photo. nothing. the main character proposes and then the show immediately jumps to the honeymoon, it’s fucking bizarre.

they find a creepy child dressed all in white with no memory alone in the woods a week into their honeymoon who starts calling them mommy and daddy literally seconds after they first meet her, and they don’t suspect anything suss is going on and adopt her

for hilarity bear in mind the main character may only be 15 at this point (he says he’s only just turned 16 in the last epsiode, but his actual birthday is never mentioned), and his virtual wifu is 16, but no one ever questions the marriage or the adoption, even though ‘hey marriage in a video game is as important and meaningful as marriage in real life’ is an actual conversation people have multiple times. also they think the child they adopt is an actual IRL 8 year old who thinks these randos she met in an MMO are her mum and dad and everyone just goes with that like it’s a totally normal thing

a character called ‘Thinker’ agrees to meet an enemy faction leader for peace talks. the “peace talks” take place in a high level dungeon and he is told to come alone with no weapons and no fast travel. he does this. no one ever comments that his name is ironic, and in fact they seem to think that being betrayed and trapped in a dungeon with a boss is a totally unexpected turn of events Thinker could never have planned for

they take their new baby into the dungeon to rescue thinker, because they went to the jean grey school of baby rearing, and she imediately reveals that she’s actually a magical maggufin with infinite power, murders the grim reaper, and then dies. In literally the second episode she’s in

after she dies the MC hacks the admin account of the game, converts her corpse into an in game item, and saves to the local storage on his console, with the intention of bringing her back to life as a robot once they’re saved from the game. I’m not joking, that’s an actual thing that happens.

the fact that the main character can just access the main admin account and make massive game-breaking changes isn’t used again in that game and he never thinks to try and use it to force log people out or give himself infinite life so he can just rush the game and free everyone. nope, convert a corpse into an item and then never think about it again.

there’s an entire episode where all they do is go fishing. its the only filler episode in the season, and it immediately follows the death of a small child. it’s the most tone-deaf beach episode in writing history

it turns out this game, this game where they didn’t bother coding in any difference races, weapons, or any kind of magic system, was intended to have fully sentient AI therapists, because why the fuck not at this point honestly

oh also the game has PVP and you can trick the game into thinking a sleeping player is in PVP with you in order to actually murder a real person without it flagging in-game as a murder making the crime impossible for the real life legal system to investigate even though you just murdered a person. and they expect us to believe this game had actual beta testers. at least cyberpunk wasn’t played on microwaves you connected straight to your brain (also not a joke, the VR consoles canonically work by sending microwave radiation into your brain, no wonder VR never caught on)

the set up for the show is that they have to reach level 100 of a dungeon in order to win. At level 75, the writers got bored and the show just ends.

it turns out the power of love allows you to just break the fucking game and the main villain literally has a line about how ‘love allows you to remove debuffs, huh, we didn’t think to plan for that’ because again, there’s no metaphors in this show, everything is 100% literal including the fact that falling in love with another player means you’re immune to the paralysis status effect

power of love also allows you to very briefly become a poltergeist after being killed, but only for like 2 seconds. again not a joke or a metaphor, main character is killed but then gets to hang around as a ghost for a little bit to enable him to defeat the boss. he also doesn’t die in real life despite that being the entire fucking premise of the show, again because power of love.

the bad guy literally has no plan, he’s just doing shit for the sake of having something to do. His actions directly cause the deaths of more than 4,000 people, and it’s not even in aid of anything. they ask him why he trapped 10,000 people in an MMO and allowed them to slowly die, and he’s just like ‘huh, i forgot i did that, random’ and then just fucking peaces out

the fact that he committed one of the largest mass killings outside of war never really comes up again, as far as we know he doesn’t even go to jail. i think the show actually kind of thinks he’s a good guy, which is a fucking WILD moral stance to take on the deaths of 4000 completely innocent people for absolutely no reason

If this sounds hilari-bad but you don’t want to invest the time to watch a show which is objectively garbage, it has an abridged series which is famously better than the show it’s parodying (i’m dead serious, people have character arcs, the getting married after one date thing is properly addressed, the mc has to deal with PTSD because of all his friends dying in epsidode 3, they don’t immediately follow the death of a child with an extended fishing montage, the villain has an actual plan). It’s mostly actually pretty good, but this is the internet and it’s an abridged series, so while there are a lot fewer yikes moments than most it still has enough that I’m not comfortable recommending it without the caveat. that said I still enjoyed it a lot, although possibly not at much as pointing and laughing at the garbage that is the actual show.

There’s a lot of characters that I like that are canon characters like, Izaya, Shizuo, Tsubaki, Celty, Shinra, Dr. Strange and other’s that I really love but I don’t think I could do them justice lol so I just, don’t   

Җ - What’s your greatest source of inspiration when it comes to role playing?

I’m not really sure? I know one is that I have this deep need to artistically express myself? Because if I don’t I don’t think it would be good for my health xD Or even just talking about it because I just get so healed if that makes any sense. And I guess another reason is cause.. like.... No one does anything with Neko!Alts so i just “This is it. It’s my time to shine.” Lol Like omg, I’ve had this idea in my head that I wanted to give everyone in drrr an neko alt because?? c’mon. Neko Celty would be super cute lol

I don’t think I’m religious, I think I’m more spiritual than anything.

✒ - Do you have a preference when it comes to gender regarding your muses?

Male. Because I don’t think I could do a female justice LOL Like I do have some female muses just I get all “hhhhhg” because i dont know if it’s any different but legit, if you have a female muse it can be so hard to get interactions just cause of how people see them i guess. And then with my own experience with a mun who played a very...very aggressive female muse lmfao it wasn’t...fun. by aggressive I mean like, their muse would sexually assault mine xD 

ಹ - Share a story from your childhood! 

Oh gosh... Well, when I was younger I played a lot of world of warcraft and I did a lot of player vs player and lol I-- I think I used to be really toxic about it? LOL I wouldn’t rage or anything it would be like, low-key shade throwing. Because I was a healer. So I had to keep my partner(s) alive and just “Why aren’t you doing any damage? We could of won.” like--- idk how to explain it lol I think back then I was like 14? So I was in this mindset of “Well I’m in the top 5(I was number 3) of the entire server. I’m one of the best players.” and, I low-key was an elitest but listen, I carried a lot of people. Just now, that I don’t really play anymore I kind of, leveled out. I don’t think that way anymore and when I think about it I’m just “what the fuck was wrong with me lmfao.” Now, I’m just tired and I want to write. I still do play a little just I don’t PvP anymore, I’m in it just to have fun and get things I didn’t get back then(It’s a private server so of course xD) But yeah, it’s kind of hard to believe that I used to be really mean back in the day. Now I’m just shy

෴ - Tell us about your day.

I’ll tell you about my work day yesterday because that’s literally the only day I can remember now.:

Yesterday, I got up like; 8:20 am because I’m tired and I don’t wanna be getting up to early. I go to work and I hold a meeting with our team leader. All the basic stuff like “Pay attention to this.” “When you deep clean or even when you’re in a normal room wipe down this.” ect ect ect. I had to also tell them that if the maintenance guy bothers you or tries to talk to you write it down because while our maintenance manager is gone, he might be a little crazy cause he thinks he can get away with more and he did get written up(cause of me) for like verbal sexual harassment. Anyway, after that meeting, I didn’t have a board(meaning I had no rooms to clean) and I had to help in laundry, which is fine I like doing laundry even if it kills my upper back and arms so that’s what I did from 9:30 am to like 3:20 pm. Got some food(I think??) came home, reblogged munday memes cause “Oh shit it’s munday” and I...think I did a reply? I don’t remember. then by like 5:20~ I was falling asleep at my desk so I went to my room and helped my GF try to find her pokemon game, we didn’t find it and at like 6:30 pm i just passed out. And here I am, retelling that story.

I do not. I don’t have time for it. I worn it once and I looked really pretty tho

༺ - Do you have any siblings? What’s your relationship with them like?

I have....an older brother a little brother and a little sister. I’m one of the middle kids lmfao. The relationship with my older brother is like... I don’t really know we kind of just “Aye.” “Hey whats up.” and be on our way. We have some of the same interests like games and collecting so that’s chill. The relationship with my little brother is pretty chill, before he left to college we were really close like he’d vent all his frustrations to me and stuff and I’d give him advice and then we’d sometimes play games together. When he left for college we hardly talk LOL But we do send each other memes. With my little sister-- i...I don’t know? It feels like it’s rocky but it’s not? It’s like, we exist but sometimes we argue. Like She’s a mommy’s girl and I’m a daddy’s girl so we are kind of on opposite ends but sometimes, she talks to me about how she dislikes our mom and I tell her “Yeah, like, sometimes she’s horrible. Sometimes she’s nice. And legit, Dad did nothing to you so I don’t know why you hate him” (Our dad was in the millitary so he was literally always gone) and yea, now we are kind of just chilling. Nothing really exciting. We are all in the same house but we don’t interact with each other often lmfao which is sad cause we are literally, like 10 feet away from each other.

Oh yes! I love my girlfriend. And Iza loves Shizuo and that specific Shizuo is my Girlfriends Shizuo so it’s like...? Weird af lol but I really love her even though sometimes I’m so shit at expressing it /cry I’m literally just always tired but I try to do whatever she wants cause legit i’m too tired to decide anything; other times I just wanna chill and be alone and it’s fjaksdfas feelsbadman

Uhhm....I think it’s alright? Not the best but not the greatest. As long as you can read it LMFAO
