Been having a lot of thoughts about Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and how the map shows everyone's locations- Team Friendship, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Big Jack Horner and the Baker's Dozen- but not Death. Which makes it another early sign that this "bountyhunter" was the literal personification of death itself all along.
