it's really... different! i can honestly say i was not expecting the pilot to be like this? i enjoyed it for the most part but i yawned through the stefan parts which is SO WEIRD?? I MEAN??? somewhere in the distance paul wesley keels over and hisses

although to be fair those were the parts where he was talking to elena, where he was pulling his old world how to court your lady handbook written by edward cullen back when they were best budz before they both had to jet off to pursue their respective human teenager ladyloves. the dialogue isn't cheesy but it's nothing to remark over - whish i suppose is to be expected for a cw pilot, but oh man. that conversation caroline had with bonnie. bonnie saying "it's not a competition, caroline" and that long, long, long look caroline gives bonnie before saying, like she's only just realizing it herself and it's just something breaking in two inside her but it couldn't possibly be her heart because how many times has she heart vapid bitchy caroline, she doesn't have a heart--

AND I LOVE LOVE LOOOVED the shot we got of tyler and caroline when stefan and elena walked into the grille, like king of the douchecanoes and the hbic mean girls club '09 side-eying the shit out of stefan and his too-short hair (TALK ABOUT MISSING OUT ON FIRST-IMPRESSIONS PILOT HAIR). idk i just love how homely everyone is? like they've known each other for years and how cramped the space looks like they can never quite escape each other, they're all just stuck there in this small podunk town.

and then there's damon, who is pretty much textbook Bad Boy how to rock a leather jacket to look extra evilllll woke up like this but not really, totes spent twenty minutes in front of the mirror for extra tussle bedhead effect. idk anne, everything is just so DIFFERENT from present-day tvd and i'm not sure if i like it or not because the contrast is just overwhelming.

ITA. LOL I always find it so ironic when they go on and on about how bad tumlbr is compared to them.

Yeah, I think it kind of annoys them too that nobody hates Kira (and that the character is actually pretty popular). Like they were actively reading into things when they basically said 'none for Kira' in response to that Allison/Lydia moment. And someone went on about how they hope all the girls are gonna be friends except Kira. I was just WTFing all over the place.
