One of the things I find so interesting about the choices for covers with alien stage songs is that in every instance it feels like the song being covered gives more insight into the particular character(s) performing the cover. The alternate versions of the songs feel so specifically selected in order to further explore those characters’ feelings using a song that was not originally written for them but still reveals some additional layer of their inner identities or some sort of foreshadowing for what they will become.

All this to say,,,,,, based on previous covers and what we know about the cast,,,,,,, I’m on my hands and knees begging for a hyuluka cover of Cure and a Luka cover of Unknown (Till the End),,,,,,

Head canon territory:

in my head he is definitely sounding like Purple Yam Cookie from Cookie run kingdom. Now I don't think he hate everything entirely. He's bestie with Finn! Finn is the only one who knows Shrimpo beyond his prickly exterior. Shrimpo Doesn't really know why he doesn't like anyone.. he usually regrets what he says, but he thinks if he takes back whatever he says it would just end in embarrassment. So he keeps up this annoying and angry façade because he doesn't want to feel that emotion of embarrassment. Goob is one of Shrimpo's, despite never admitting it. Good never seems to care what Shrimpo says and wants to be friends with him anyways! Shrimpo likes that about Goob.

Hello. I’m Diego Hernandez. I have been lurking on Tumblr for years, never posting anything.

When we were 18, I kissed Violetta without her consent in front of a livestream. It was wrong of me. I can only give the excuse that I was young and dumb. The fact that Violetta still had the heart to forgive me is something I am so grateful for. But just because she forgave me does not mean she secretly liked the kiss. She didn’t. KAREN FINLEY, Toronto 1988

Performance artist Karen Finley was at the centre of one of the most important debates about artistic expression and public funding of the arts back at the start of my career as a photographer - one that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court - and I photographed her twice - once performing the piece that had landed her in the middle of this controversy, and then again a year later, with a portrait session and another (much tamer) live performance. Finley started her career in the punk rock scene in San Francisco and later moved to New York where she became part of the city's very high profile art scene. Influenced by people like Gregory Corso and Carolee Schneemann, she took subjects like abuse and violence and sexuality and created confrontational, pointedly offensive performances that were shocking then, and might actually be impossible to pull off today, at a time when context is less considered and offending individual sensibilities is very nearly criminal.

Based on the two performances I witnessed, Karen Finley's art was based around recitations of texts that were delivered in what seemed like a trance state - a kind of shamanistic spectacle that happened to invoke violent, sexual and even scatological imagery. Finley was, in the press, known as the lady who stuffed canned yams up her butt, and I witnessed her do this the first time I saw her perform, at the Diamond Club in Toronto in 1987. What lingers in my memory is the contingent of young men - a small gang of frat boy types as I recall them - who began heckling her when she began this infamous part of her performance. Finley took it all in stride - I'm sure she was used to this sort of reaction - but it was hard to miss how uncomfortable she made her hecklers. When I photographed her again a year later at the Copa - a disco in the fashionable Yorkville neighbourhood - her performance was more like a conventional reading of her work, with taped musical accompaniment. (Finley had some success in alternative dance clubs with her album The Truth is Hard to Swallow and the singles "Tales of Taboo" and "Lick It!".)

My portrait shoot with performance artist Karen Finley in the fall of 1988 was technically difficult. I'd shown up at the club where she was performing without bringing any lighting, and discovered that the backstage area was rather dim and cave-like, and that the only really usable light in the whole space was a hallway where spotlights were trained on a glossy painted wall. I tried to make lemonade out of lemons by attempting a glamour portrait with the small, hard focused pool of light on the wall. Later, when she was interviewed by my friend Nancy Lanthier, she said that I had tried to encourage her with the sorts of directions fashion photographers would use - saying things like "Beautiful!" and "Work with me!" I was offended; I had no memory of this at all, and I'm not known for giving a lot in the way of direction during shoots, but perhaps she was right - I needed to make the shoot work, and since it was still early days I might have resorted to the kind of exhortations I'd seen in movies. And because I know there's still some interest, I've included a couple of shots from Finley's 1987 show, complete with canned yams. I have always wondered why canned yams - was it a personal or sentimental choice, or were canned yams arrived at after some experimentation? I suppose if I want an answer I'd have to ask Finley.

The lovely Calou (@stratocumulusperlucidus) tagged me for "first 10 songs on your "on repeat" playlist + tag 10 people" but I don't use Spotify so I'm shaking things up!

Every year on January 1st I start a playlist for the year. I add to it throughout the year, sometimes the songs are new discoveries and other times they're just things I listen to a lot that that fit, somehow.

My playlist is still pretty short for 2024 because I haven't been able to listen to much music lately, but here's what I've got so far:

1. "The Future Is Our Way Out," by Brigitte Calls Me Baby (some sort of Stephen Sanchez - The Smiths hybrid-type-thing, kind of... people say Roy Orbison but I disagree)

2. "SO HARD TO TELL," by Debby Friday (this song is hot.)

3. "Mulholland's Dinner and Wine," by Declan McKenna (I'm a Declan stan and we can talk about that some other time)

4. "More Than This," by Roxy Music (classic, heart-rending)

5. "Blue Monday," by New Order (did I mention it's been a hard year so far? okay cool.)

6. "Murder On The Dance Floor," (cover) by Royel Otis (it's a banger of a cover and I am not immune to propaganda)

7. "Phoning It In," by Yam Haus (I would like to see this band live in concert someday)
