A/N: When I first watched it I went “so what if they are supposed to be mean, I like the mean characters as well” but then he went and CHEATED??? Oh nO, AND ENDED UP WITH A CUTE GF??? Nonononononono, Imma change that real quick.

You and your best friend Mika would tell everything to each other and you recall it all too well that day, she’s been dating Suguru for two months now and it started with a "I feel like I’m always there to listen, but when I’m talking he’s never really present" a small comment, that you brushed off as couples always have things to complain about and it would’ve been fine but It kept going to the point that it’s a recurring subject in almost every meetup or sleepover, you begrudgingly advised her to talk to him and try to talk things out, planning scripts and strategies to bring those subjects up.

You told her you don’t mind helping her, but doing it on the time you two were supposed to be having fun and going out got you frustrated and angry, not at her, but at him! Why can’t he see that he has an amazing, loving girlfriend right in front of him? And your growing hate towards him didn’t go unnoticed by anyone since now you subconsciously avoid or ignore him, rolls your eyes when he talks and glare at him from time to time, the only thing you hated more than him was the fact that Mika was always forgiving of him, following him wherever he goes and moving on even when you, one of her closest friends showed your complete and utter disapprove of him, of course for him it’s easy to hurt her, he weren’t the one wiping her tears, comforting her with movies and sweets or calming her down 3am on facecall, he was the one responsible for making her sad over and over and that didn’t sit right with you

It was that time again. You invited your usual friends to the weekend sleepover, and she came in sad and avoided everyone with a fake smile. You thought about what he could possibly have done this time, as it seems he had disappointed her in every way possible already. He apparently just found one more. Everyone is asleep, and you’re with her in the living room, wiping her tears once more. And trying to stop her sobs, she asked

"What do you think I should do?"

"Mika... I think you should break up with him. "

She fell silent, studying your face and looking for any sign of it being a joke, but you seriously and understandably elaborated.

"I genuinely can’t remember the last time you said anything positive about him. Every week you come here sad and crying, not even mentioning the times you call me or text me when we can’t see each other, and you were never like that before him."

She went on trying to explain how that wasn’t the case, she just doesn’t tell you the good things when they happen and it’s not all that bad. Her voice, mixed with the sobs, comes out louder than she wished it would, cracking while pleading

"I SWEAR HE MAKES ME HAPPY!"

You don’t say anything, you don’t need to, just hug her tight and do what you always do; you let her cry, you put on a Disney movie and she falls asleep on the couch with you; and the next day, before leaving, you make sure to reassure her that you’re not angry at her, and that if she needed comfort, she shouldn’t think twice before coming to you and that it’s always her decision after all.

You kept texting normally and she didn’t mention him all week. You started to wonder if you’d made the right decision when advising her to break up. All your friends were busy this weekend and she had her anniversary date with her boyfriend, so you were preparing yourself for a boring night, but around 9pm, someone knocked at your door.

"Mika? What are you doing here? I thought you were going to be out with-"

You stop yourself from finishing it, noticing her body language, face down and fists clenched. You could see her brows furrowed and a pout in her lips, an aggressive expression contrasting her delicate dress, but you’ve seen this a hundred times before. You stand back, and let her inside, hearing sniffs as she enters, but the silence is quick to break.

"He forgot about me… again."

You pause for a moment before returning to closing the door on your room; she's sitting on your bed with tears in her eyes; all the anger has dissipated, and you return to her, hugging her tighter than ever and comforting her once more, letting her talk, distracting her, and lending her some clothes to shower and sleep in.

You don’t suggest anything, it’s clearly not the time for it, just take the ice cream from the fridge and eat it all. After calming down she looks tired, she thanks you for staying by her side once more and apologizes for making you do this every time, but you don’t mind it, it just hurts to see the happy, bubbly girl you knew lose her sparkle over a guy, you missed playing dress up and going shopping and letting her pick outfits for you, miss gossiping and going up on people’s business just to say "But it’s their lives, they do what they want, we’re in no place to judge anybody." right after, missed baking new stuff and putting flour on her nose; and all those things turned into watching the same movies and listening to her crying about a guy that isn’t worth a second glance.

The following day, you decided to visit her. It felt like she needed a bit more comfort, so you went to buy her favorite snacks on the way. You knew she was home, so you just knocked and her mom let you in. She was in her room, so you went upstairs but stopped yourself at her door when you heard she was on the phone with someone else. There was a bit more noise downstairs, but ignoring them, and putting your ear against the door, you heard:

"It’s just that I don’t even feel sad anymore. How am I supposed to tell my boyfriend that I feel glad while he’s disappointing me because I get to have Y/N watching movies, hugging me, and comforting me for hours??"

You’re frozen in place. What did you just hear? You check around, grasping the fabric over your chest, feeling your face getting hotter by every passing second. You don’t want to get things wrong. After hearing a light thud, you put your ears over the door again. Maybe she threw herself in the bed?

"It’s just that she’s always so sweet and kind to me, having her looking deep into my eyes, holding me close and telling me jokes to make me feel better, putting on my favorite movies and getting food for us and then sleeping together, NOT IN A SEXUAL WAY, I meant to say we cuddle, Suguru never does anything like that. Sometimes I pick fights so I can have it with her, so when she suggested me and him breaking up, I figured out maybe I should just try romancing. Do you think she feels that way too? "

So that’s why, you couldn’t pinpoint why you hated Suguru so much, how you could keep comforting her forever, how the memories of her happy times lingered in the back of your head, how you replayed her laugh over and over in your head, and how you didn’t even have time to process it fully before guilt washed over you, for a myriad of reasons, were you stealing her away from him? That was so personal. Was it OK for you to hear it? How will you tell her you feel the same if she is dating someone else? How could you let her suffer so much because of you? How didn’t you notice it before?

You’re a mess, she’s still talking but you can’t hear ir, if feels like everything around you is spinning and your face is burning hot, you’re pretty sure you look super weird outside her door with wide eyes and mouth open; but everything is pushed aside when you hear a footstep on the stairs, you’d rather have her seeing you like this than anyone else so you enter abruptly and close the door behind you fast, she hangs up her phone call looking terrified at you, it’s obvious in your expression that you’ve heard it all, the footsteps from before are the only thing both of you hear, in this unbreakable silence you feel it strong, coming toward her door fast and someone opens the door rudely, almost hitting you as you turn around and see Suguru, invading the room and changing it’s energy aggressively, throwing his hands in the air complaining in an almost shout

"I can’t believe you’re going to make last night a big deal! You need to remind me of those details! You’re so sensitive it feels like I can’t do anyth-"

"Shut up."

The words leave your mouth before you can stop yourself. It’s not loud, but it feels like a command. Your eyes never leave her until this moment. The second he opens his mouth again, you’re glaring at him. His voice is significantly quieter

"This isn’t about you; you shouldn’t even be he-"

You interrupt him again, talking to Mika without taking your glare away from him, calm, composed, talking as if genuinely asking a question.

"Does your mother know that the guy she just let in is shouting at her daughter? At her own house? Does your father downstairs know how many times he made you cry for no reason?" You wait for a second for him to actually perceive you. "Who do you think you are?"

You can’t quite remember what happened after. You recall some empty threats and stupid curses as you force his way down the stairs and out of the house. Her parents are quick to side with you and kick him out. You recall him crying and Mika breaking up with him, it’s all so blurry, words foggy, feeling like a dream when you’re just about to wake up and everything happened so fast too, tears of anger and frustration in your eyes, not daring to fall, finding yourself dizzy sitting back in her bed again, hands in your head, supporting your elbows in your knees trying to recompose your breath, and as if perfectly timed, hearing a whisper

"Did you hear it? My conversation on the phone"

Her voice sounds so tiny, and she’s also sobbing, but things are getting clearer. You answer it with another question, as if it was obvious.

"Why did you do that? Staying with him if you wanted me all along. "

She answers it in a heartbeat.

"I didn’t realize it right away. Would I even have a chance with you if I did it anyway? "

Your words feel so hurtful. Tears are now falling, and trying to form a full sentence over sobs, plead.

"You would... But hurting yourself hurts me too. This could’ve gone so much better. "

She sits by your side, hugging you, mumbling a million apologies, until falling into a long silence. Tired from the previous action, it felt like eternity trying to recover from all of the overwhelming feelings. There was only one thing left to say.

"Mika... I like you too. "

It’s ice skating and watching her gracefully make her way through the ice, ethereal, watching her body spin and dance without music, her nose red under the scarf because of the cold and sometimes she would close her eyes shut, scrunching them before opening it and looking at you. 🍋Hitoka Yachi

She is lovestruck watching you cook, her family celebrates Christmas and she got a cookbook full of traditional recipes. You were giving your body and soul to this gingerbread house, or what she called “Granny’s Amazing Secret Perfect Gingerbread House”. You got all you needed and worked hours on it, measuring things perfectly and acting as if it was a real architecture project for some sort of Eiffel Tower 2.0 that absolutely couldn't go wrong. It turned out more than perfect, flawless, it was a little square shaped house with a gable roof, the tiles were shaped over the dough with icing and covered with confectioner’s sugar for a fake snow; it had 3 windows drawn with thin icing, two on the sides and one over the door; the door was sealed open with icing and painted white, the candies and different icings gave it a colorful look and it couldn’t look any better, the little tree and a garden with a fence were the perfect final touch and it really did look a bit over decorated, but mersmerizing nontheless. “It was so fun, what do we do now?” You ask. She takes the peppermint swirl candy from the decoration, putting it in her mouth “We eat it” She answers without hesitation “WAIT!! ALREADY?? NOOOO LET’S TAKE AT LEAST A FEW PICTURES FIRST” You reason, trying to stop her from biting a part of the roof as she giggles and tries to sneak more of it in her mouth, muffling a “My phone storage is 100% dedicated to you… and pets!”

Absolutely loves your style, and takes you to the most beautiful places to take pictures and talk, you always end up laughing and staring at the view for a few minutes before aimlessly walking or going back home. It feels like you know every place around by now, like you tried on every street food, like you’ve memorized every single detail of the city. She rambles about how pretty her pictures look in the winter, how she loves the elements it brings and how it inspires her, before dragging you to a new neighborhood where they have gorgeous lights around.

🍋Alisa Haiba

She thinks she’s so sneaky, you found it in October an unnamed note on her phone, opening it to follow up the names of everyone close to her and things they mentioned wanting throughout the year, everyone’s name, but yours; you figured she’d hide yours better since you’re smarter than that, and maybe she just doesn’t want you to know, that’s ok too, you’d be in for a surprise. The surprise you didn’t expect was a small box under the dim light, the emptiness of a home after a gathering, the smell of the earlier food and the tv still on, the sound of cars in the streets and Alisa looking at you, both sitting on the couch and a whisper of “open it” to a new commitment riyourng, fancier, it looked expensive and she cuts your worries short saying it’s from her grandmother, taking hand close and kissing your knuckles before admiring how it looked in your hand; under the loving gaze taking in how the house feels so big all of a sudden, but not in a bad way.

Sharply hitting the back of Lev’s head, he had no idea where it came from but he frowned at you before realizing it came from his sister. The snow was taking it’s space on the winter view as it’s own and Alisa grinned at you before going back down to gather more of it on her hand; you wondered for a second if her grin meant you’d be an ally or the next victim but decided to hope for the first option and attack Lev too, approaching your girlfriend and dodging the horribly thrown snowballs Lev was trying to use as a revenge, while he complained about how this was unfair since he had no one on his team, it hits him again, right on his face and you get lost on thinking about how enchanting her laugh sounds and how her smile seems to dictate the beating of your heart to hear her “watch out!!” And feel a snowball hitting you, she drops the ones in her hand to go after her brother and you can’t help but laugh thinking how lucky you are.

It was when she first introduced you to the team and they all loved you so much, you fake consoled Tanaka and Nishinoya about the situation while they were actually really happy for both of you but kept on fake crying and cursing at themselves, you were so serious until you looked at her and a little chuckle escaped your lips, they looked so offended but that only made you laugh harder, and they ended up laughing with you, Tanaka, Nishinoya and Shimizu.

Clear was the love she felt when you kissed the scars on her legs. She doesn’t necessarily feel bad about them but she doesn’t feel good either, kept on pondering the thought about how you were going to react, but knowing that it didn’t dictate her beauty to you made her heart flutter inside her chest and made her feel a little silly for getting insecure over such a little thing.

It was in a cat cafe, when a black kitten approached both of you and there was this silent competition of which one he was going to choose and it went with her, she was ready to show off and rub her victory on her face but you were looking at her with a starstruck gaze, as if you were looking at an angel, her cockiness being replaced with bashfulness, handing the kitten to you.

Happening instinctively before a party, she got dressed but didn’t feel like going at all, you were already dressed waiting for her downstairs and she was in front of the bathroom mirror practicing her points on how you could go alone or maybe she didn’t need to go, and after 15 minutes went to you but all her arguments died on her lips on her last step before meeting your figure. She just mouthed a “Let’s go” and faked a smile. You looked in her eyes, concededly whispering a “Don’t get mad ok? She never really cared about her birthday, but when she woke up to this sweet smell from the kitchen, ruining your surprise and watching you plan on how to make her day even more special while stuffing your mouth with pancakes got her excitedly wondering how her day was going to be, and the next year, and the next.

When both of you first went to a wedding together, she was so overwhelmed by how promising that was, but didn’t want to scare you off, since you weren’t dating for long, so if it was nothing for you it was nothing for her. She got caught up in her own thoughts and didn’t notice how you were staring at her, when she did notice she was cut off by a “Can we also have white flowers on the tables at our wedding as well?”

It was supposed to be a walk at the park but you said you’d be here and you aren’t. She hears your laughter and tries to follow the direction it came from just to find you playing with a dog and giving the owners second-hand embarrassment over the baby voice you’re using to talk to the dog, it’s really bad. When she teases you for it later you used on her as a joke and she laughed hysterically and every time you use it solidifies in her head how it’s you the one for her.

It was playing on the radio, louder than ever, amazing breakup songs released, sadly, just when you’re in a long healthy and happy relationship; it was inevitable screaming singing the lyrics in the car while waiting for her to finish getting ready, but it was there, running late with her heels on one hand, purse and makeup on another, planning to apply it on the way, but frozen in her tracks watching you scream about how you were cheated on, and your face full of embarrassment noticing you got caught.

She has a strict morning routine and never skips sunscreen before going out. Everyday she tells you not to kiss her face unless you want your mouth full of that sour terrible sunscreen taste and you always peck her lips goodbye. Until you saw her eyes shining over some scene on a movie where the girl gets her hands kissed and you could never have imagined the face she made when you kissed her hand instead the next morning, eyes wide and mouth agape, her breathing fastening and you could hear her heartbeat until she jumped in you, kissing you all over your face senseless. You got covered in sunscreen though.

It was tuesday when you met her, it felt warm even in the cloudy weather, and she was walking with a gorgeous girl from your class. Kiyoko approached you to talk about an upcoming test and introduced you and Yachi, who seemed shy and reserved, “So cute” you thought to yourself, and kept on with your day.

Her mom got home from work with a cake and while making a wish and blowing the candles she scrunched her nose with her eyes shut close “So cute” it repeated

Something about her got you acting different, having your body tense around her, face feeling hot, sweaty hands and your stomach weird, every joke of her was funny to you, every word was poetry in her lips, she wasn’t sunkissed, as cheesy as it sounds it felt like sunblessed, ethereal, sublime, until her smile reached her cheeks and “It’s just because she’s cute, right? … So cute” replaying in the back of your mind like a broken vinyl.

The hints seemed to go all over your head, as you brushed off as her just being your friend; therefore it was after you noticed her eyes on you all the time, after she started hiding from you, after her friends teasingly looked at her when you were around, after you exchanged socials and she asked for your Discord and after you started talking everyday that you noticed. Such a simple moment, finding her account over Discord and opening her Spotify, it shouldn’t lead anywhere, but one of the playlists was named after you, “... What?”.

Filled with cheesy love songs, a 7 hour long playlist,it was unimaginable, you noticed your heart beating faster than ever, a smile creeping up to your features and that’s when it hit you, why you were so nervous around her, why her jokes were funny, why she invaded your daydreams as if they were her own, taking space in your own self and making it feel logical. She had no rights on doing so, and the more unjust it felt the more you couldn’t bear to blame her, since it seemed you were on her mind just as much.

It was first thing in the morning, taking extra care in your appearance and buying something to pair your letter with, the falling leaves on the autumn weather added to the environment you were creating for your confession. you planned on confessing after school but met her at the gates instead, she stiffened at the sight of you before fixing her skirt and waiting for you, both of you always early, you pushed her aside.

The words you’ve rehearsed in your room broke off at your throat and it felt awkward standing there; she was confused on why were you acting like so but you couldn’t bring yourself to answer her questions and think about the confession at the same time; then she started insisting on how you could talk while walking and tried leading you back to the gates and it wasn’t fair, how the words were flooding your mind and how it all went so fast; in a hopeless way to tell her you showed her your phone, her playlist bright on her sight and as she felt silent her hand dropped from your arm; it was evident she was about to panic so you were quick to blurt out “ I LIKE YOU TOO!” and some mumbled words after, but overall, it was so hard paying attention to classes that day.

But it’s about laughing over these memories, about all the moments that came later, meeting her family as her partner, valentine’s day, birthdays and anniversaries, parties out and sleepovers at her house, it’s about the beauty in the abundance of love found in her smile, the warmth in her touch and the fondness in her words. Isn’t it all just so cute?

Something about not finding you on her way home and overthinking the whole situation at home, were you lying to her? Mocking? Or making fun? She was hurt and decided to text you and confirm, she knew you were a good person and wouldn’t do that to her, she sent something along the lines of “Hey, sorry I got shy and left, I was hoping what happened meant the same for both of us”, not wanting to wait for a reply, afraid of it confirming her worst thoughts she went to sleep.

It took a while to hit her in the morning just the situation she was in, tried acting normal around her family and go to school fast, checking what you’ve answered on the way, but her plans were about to be ruined by you, standing at the sidewalk in front of her house, flowers on your hand and a smile on your face “It did”.
