I’m really hopeful that the oxymeter caught something. The screen blacks out while you’re wearing it but if the sensor comes off at all you can see the numbers for a moment when you put it back on. It came off at some point and I immediately put it back on and it was at 80% and then again this morning when I was getting ready to turn it off it said 82% so I left it on for another 10 minutes. I’m really hoping it’s enough for the Pulmonologist to be able to do something and not think it’s just a fluke.
It’s a stormy morning. Mandana wanted blanket cuddles and I’m happy to oblige 😌

Recovery After Bronchoscopy: What to Expect
Recovery after a bronchoscopy test in Jaipur involves several considerations, overseen by a skilled pulmonologist in Jaipur like those at Breath Clinic, renowned for their reputation as some of the best pulmonologists in Jaipur. Understanding what to expect post-procedure can help alleviate any concerns and ensure a smooth recovery process.
Immediate Post-Procedure: After the bronchoscopy, patients are typically monitored in a recovery area until the effects of sedation wear off. You may experience mild throat irritation, a sore throat, or a persistent cough due to the presence of the bronchoscope during the procedure. These symptoms are normal and usually subside within a few hours.
Rest and Recovery: It's advisable to rest for the remainder of the day following the procedure. Activities such as driving, operating machinery, or making important decisions should be avoided until the effects of sedation completely dissipate. Your pulmonologist in Jaipur will provide specific instructions regarding when you can resume normal activities, including work and exercise.
Managing Discomfort: To manage any discomfort or soreness in your throat, soothing lozenges or warm liquids like tea with honey can be helpful. It's essential to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. Avoid smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke to promote healing.
Monitoring for Complications: While complications after bronchoscopy are rare, it's crucial to be vigilant for signs of potential issues such as severe chest pain, persistent coughing up of blood, or difficulty breathing. If you experience any unusual symptoms, contact your pulmonologist in Jaipur promptly for further guidance.
Follow-Up Care: Depending on the reason for your bronchoscopy, your doctor may discuss preliminary findings immediately after the procedure or schedule a follow-up appointment to review results in detail. They may recommend additional tests or treatments based on these findings to address any underlying respiratory conditions.
Reassurance and Support: Recovery after a bronchoscopy can vary from person to person, but with the guidance of a trusted best pulmonologist in Jaipur at Breath Clinic, patients can expect attentive care aimed at minimizing discomfort and promoting a swift return to normal activities. By adhering to post-procedure instructions and communicating openly with your healthcare team, you can facilitate a successful recovery and ensure ongoing respiratory health.

Three times in as many weeks, I’ve been asked if I’m losing weight (again). Second question is “Are you trying to lose weight?” Yes, losing. No. Not trying. Four years ago, over one year, lost almost 50 pounds. Again, wasn’t trying. I’ve been diagnosed with Polycythemia. That is, my body is making too many hemoglobin, hematocrit and white blood cells - all of which indicates cancer. Oncologist has run a cancer screening and came up with nothing so, sent me to pulmonology. He’s tested me for things like asthma, lung functioning, sleep apnea, chronic obstructed pulmonary disease, emphysema and cardio stress. He too has come up with nothing. I admit I miss being big. I used to work out religiously. Never juiced.

Hospital Hijinks: Pulmonology edition
My Pulmonologist told me since my desaturation problems are very transient that I should try to come in on bad days and they will do the 6-minute walk to try to catch it, so that’s what we did today and it did not workout the way the Dr had recommended.
I was in the waiting room for two hours while they messaged various people to try to get answers. No problem, because I really need to do some settle practice at the hospital specifically so it actually worked out for us.
What they finally concluded is that I can’t just do a 6-minute walk because if my oxygen is low they are legally required to prescribe me oxygen before I leave. So I HAVE to have an appointment scheduled for after the test. Fine, whatever. I scheduled an apt for next week.
The annoying part is that I was literally desaturating in their office right in front of them. My oxygen lvls driving there was as low as 74% and I was using two different oxymeters. So they’re liable for me if I have an appointment but if it’s happening right in front of them but I’m not scheduled they can’t help me.
Mandana did great and I really got to nail down what her issue is. She was completely fine waiting two hours. She was fine with a down/stay as I walked around the room. She was fine as I had conversations with other people and she was fine while I was at the front desk trying to clear things up. The only time she whined even a little was when I got close to the door to go to the back while talking to a nurse. So it really is about the back exam room atmosphere and I think it’s because it resembles a new vet.
So yeah, I’m frustrated that I basically have to make appointment after appointment until we catch this in a 6 minute window but on the plus side I really can’t think of a better way to work on her issue with being in an exam room. So I guess there’s a bright side 🤷♀️
They also get to see how well-behaved she really is which is great bc her whining in the apt is my biggest embarrassment 😳

Bronchoscopy: A Window Into the Lungs
When it comes to diagnosing and treating lung conditions, the complexity of respiratory health demands precision and care. Modern medical advancements have made procedures like bronchoscopy indispensable in addressing a variety of lung-related ailments. This minimally invasive diagnostic tool is often a lifesaver, especially under the expert hands of the Best Pulmonologist in Delhi/Gurgaon.
Dr. Prashant Saxena is Senior Director & Head Pulmonology, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj, Delhi and Fortis Hospital, Gurugram. He underwent Fellowship training in Westmead & Liverpool Hospitals, Sydney, Australia. He is an expert in the field of Interventional Pulmonology & Critical Care.
What is Bronchoscopy?
Bronchoscopy is a procedure that allows doctors to examine the inside of the airways and lungs using a bronchoscope - a thin, flexible tube equipped with a camera and light. The process is instrumental in identifying abnormalities, infections, tumors, or blockages. Pulmonologists also use bronchoscopy to collect tissue or mucus samples, remove foreign objects, or clear excessive mucus in conditions like chronic bronchitis.
Why Do Patients Need Bronchoscopy?
Bronchoscopy is often recommended for patients who experience:
Persistent coughing or unexplained respiratory symptoms.
Blood in their sputum (hemoptysis).
Suspected lung infections or cancer.
Chronic lung diseases like tuberculosis, asthma, or COPD.
The procedure not only identifies the cause of these symptoms but also helps pulmonologists administer targeted treatments.
Real-Life Impact of Bronchoscopy
Medical procedures often sound clinical, but the impact they have on patients' lives is deeply personal. Here are a few anonymous testimonials that reflect the importance of bronchoscopy and expert care:
A Patient's Story of Early Diagnosis
"I had been experiencing a nagging cough for over a month. My initial tests showed nothing unusual, but my pulmonologist suggested a bronchoscopy for a detailed evaluation. The procedure revealed an early-stage tumor that was completely treatable. Thanks to timely intervention, my life was saved without undergoing complicated treatments."
Relief from a Chronic Condition
"For years, I struggled with recurring pneumonia. My lungs always felt clogged, and antibiotics were no longer effective. My pulmonologist performed a bronchoscopy to clear mucus and administer direct medication to the lungs. I finally feel like I can breathe freely."
Finding Clarity in a Time of Fear
"A sudden onset of breathing difficulties left me terrified. My doctors suspected tuberculosis but wanted to be certain. A bronchoscopy provided the samples they needed, and they ruled out TB, sparing me months of unnecessary treatment. I’m grateful to the Best Pulmonologist in Delhi/Gurgaon for their careful approach."
The Procedure: What to Expect
For many patients, the idea of undergoing a bronchoscopy can feel intimidating. However, the procedure is generally safe and straightforward. Here’s what typically happens:
Preparation: You might be asked to fast for a few hours before the procedure. A local anesthetic is applied to numb the throat, and sometimes mild sedation is used to ensure comfort.
The Procedure: The bronchoscope is gently inserted through the nose or mouth and guided into the lungs. Patients may feel mild pressure but not pain.
Post-Procedure: Recovery is quick, and most patients can resume normal activities within a day. Any discomfort, like a sore throat, usually subsides within a few hours.
Choosing the Right Pulmonologist
Finding the Best Pulmonologist in Delhi/Gurgaon is crucial for ensuring the success of a bronchoscopy. A skilled pulmonologist not only has the technical expertise but also understands the emotional journey of their patients. They take the time to explain the procedure, address concerns, and provide personalized care.
Why Bronchoscopy is a Game-Changer
The real power of bronchoscopy lies in its versatility. It serves both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, making it a cornerstone in modern pulmonology. For patients grappling with respiratory diseases, bronchoscopy can mean the difference between uncertainty and clarity - between suffering and relief.
Conclusion
If you’re experiencing persistent respiratory issues, don’t hesitate to seek the guidance of the Best Pulmonologist in Delhi/Gurgaon. With tools like bronchoscopy, they can pinpoint problems with precision and provide tailored treatments to restore your health. As these real-life stories show, timely action and expert care can transform lives.

Mumbai, being one of India's largest medical hubs, offers a range of highly qualified chest specialists, or pulmonologists, who are experts in diagnosing and treating a variety of lung diseases and respiratory conditions. This will guide you on how to find the best chest specialist in Mumbai, the qualifications to look for, and the most common lung diseases treated by pulmonologists.
What Does a Chest Specialist or Pulmonologist Do?
A chest specialist in Mumbai—also known as a pulmonologist—focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to the lungs and respiratory system. Pulmonologists specialize in a wide range of conditions affecting the lungs, such as asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, emphysema, and lung cancer.
Common Conditions Treated by a Pulmonologist
Asthma: A chronic disease that causes inflammation and narrowing of the airways, leading to difficulty breathing, wheezing, and coughing.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): A group of lung diseases that block airflow and make breathing difficult, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Pneumonia: An infection that causes inflammation in the air sacs of the lungs, leading to symptoms like fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.
Tuberculosis (TB): A bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs, causing severe coughing, weight loss, and night sweats.
Lung Cancer: A type of cancer that begins in the lungs, often caused by smoking or prolonged exposure to harmful substances.
Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD): A group of disorders affecting the tissue and space around the air sacs of the lungs.
Why Do You Need the Best Pulmonologist in Mumbai?
Choosing the best pulmonologist in Mumbai is crucial for the effective treatment of respiratory diseases. Here’s why it’s so important to seek expert care for lung conditions:
1. Accurate Diagnosis
Pulmonary diseases often share similar symptoms, such as shortness of breath, chronic cough, and wheezing, making accurate diagnosis difficult without the right expertise. The best chest specialists in Mumbai use advanced diagnostic tools such as chest X-rays, CT scans, pulmonary function tests, and bronchoscopy to correctly diagnose your condition and assess its severity.
2. Customized Treatment Plans
Each lung condition requires a tailored treatment approach. Whether you need medication, lifestyle changes, or even surgery, a highly experienced pulmonologist in Mumbai will develop a personalized treatment plan based on your condition, age, overall health, and medical history.
3. Management of Chronic Respiratory Conditions
Conditions like asthma, COPD, and interstitial lung disease are chronic and require long-term management. The best pulmonologists will monitor your condition regularly, adjust medications as needed, and provide guidance on lifestyle modifications such as quitting smoking, reducing exposure to environmental pollutants, and following proper breathing techniques.
4. Cutting-Edge Treatments
Pulmonology is a rapidly evolving field with the introduction of new therapies and technologies. The best chest specialist in Mumbai will have access to state-of-the-art treatment options such as biologic therapies for asthma, advanced ventilation methods for COPD, and targeted treatments for lung cancer. Early intervention using these advanced treatments can significantly improve the quality of life for patients.
5. Preventive Care and Education
The top pulmonologists not only treat existing conditions but also focus on preventing respiratory issues. They educate patients about risk factors, such as smoking, air pollution, and occupational hazards, and guide them in adopting healthier lifestyle choices to protect their lungs.
What to Look for in the Best Chest Specialist in Mumbai
When searching for the best pulmonologist in Mumbai, it’s important to choose a specialist with the right qualifications, experience, and approach to patient care. Here are some key factors to consider:
1. Qualifications and Experience
The first and foremost thing to check is the pulmonologist’s qualifications. Ensure the doctor has completed a degree in medicine (MBBS) followed by specialized training in pulmonary medicine (MD, DNB, or similar). In addition to formal education, look for a pulmonologist with experience in treating the specific respiratory condition you have.
2. Reputation and Patient Reviews
Reputation plays a significant role in choosing the right chest specialist. Look for online reviews, testimonials, and ratings from previous patients to get a sense of the pulmonologist’s competence, bedside manner, and success rate in treating respiratory conditions. Personal recommendations from family or friends can also be very helpful.
3. Comprehensive Diagnostic and Treatment Facilities
Ensure that the pulmonologist in Mumbai you choose has access to modern diagnostic tools like spirometry, chest X-rays, CT scans, and bronchoscopy. A specialist who is equipped with the latest technologies will be able to provide accurate diagnosis and offer advanced treatment options for your condition.
4. Approach to Patient Care
The best pulmonologist in Mumbai will focus on personalized care, paying attention to your specific symptoms, health history, and lifestyle. They will explain your condition in detail, answer any questions you may have, and involve you in decision-making regarding your treatment plan. Compassionate care can make a huge difference in managing respiratory diseases effectively.
5. Availability for Consultation and Follow-ups
Look for a pulmonologist who is easily accessible, offers flexible appointment schedules, and provides timely follow-up care. Chronic lung conditions often require ongoing management, and a good doctor should be available for regular check-ups and to address any concerns you may have throughout the treatment process.
Common Treatments Offered by a Pulmonologist in Mumbai
1. Medications
Pulmonologists often prescribe medications such as inhalers, bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and antibiotics to treat various respiratory diseases. The correct medication can help control symptoms, reduce inflammation, and improve lung function.
2. Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Pulmonary rehabilitation is a program designed to improve the well-being of people with chronic respiratory conditions. It includes exercises, breathing techniques, and nutritional advice to help patients manage their disease more effectively.
3. Oxygen Therapy
