Singlemom!Wanda, Tommy and Billy gets sick right before halloween so they can’t go trick or treating. While Wanda spends halloween night trying to nurse her children back to health, Reader spends it out trick or treating, and afterwards goes to deliver all the candy they got for Wanda's children.
Pairing: SingleMom!Wanda Maximoff x Reader
Warnings: None. Wholesome. Fluffy. Family friendly.
Note: I love with kids trope why?
Count: ~1k (dang it)

You have a crush on your neighbor.
It was kind of hard not to. You're pretty sure you're not the only person in the neighborhood that has a crush on Wanda Maximoff.
Wanda's kids had deterred most people from actually trying anything serious with her, but you thought Billy and Tommy were amazing if a bit rambunctious.
The only issue stopping you from dating Wanda was that the redhead was convinced you weren't someone who could seriously commit.
And to be fair, Wanda did have a point. You swung back and forth between bringing different people home every month, or full stop refused to see anyone at all.
Trying to prove to Wanda that you were serious about her and her kids was just a waiting game. Only time could prove that, and you were willing to show up every day without excuses.
You think it might be working.
"I'm so sorry," Wanda apologized as she stood at the door with you outside it. There were mild stress lines, and it looked like the woman had barely slept. "I totally forget to tell you but the boys came down with something last night. Their fever just broke this morning."
"Hey, hey, it's okay," you rubbed Wanda's arms and pulled her into a hug. "Have you even gotten any sleep yourself?"
"Yes," Wanda said but then backtracked when you quirked your eyebrow at her. "I mean, kind of. I had a 20 minute nap."
You sighed, but Wanda shrugged. "It's fine. The boys are just resting now and that means I can get some sleep too. They're just really bummed they're going to miss trick-or-treating. They were already upset Vision wasn't coming down to celebrate, so you really made their day offering to take them."
You lifted your hand to stroke the side of Wanda's hair, trying to not smile at Wanda looked shy at the touch.
"It'll be okay. We can come up with something different to do when they're better. Get some rest. I'll stop by later tonight, if that's okay?" You asked her.
Wanda nodded. "Sounds good."
You pushed your luck and kissed her on the cheek before you turned around and left.

"How're you boys feeling?" Wanda asked as she sat down next to them on the couch.
They had woken up about an hour ago and were well enough to at least sit down on the pullout couch and watch some TV shows.
"Okay," Tommy said, but they both shrugged.
"Just kind of sad we're missing out on the candy," Billy mumbled.
Wanda felt extra bad that their doorbell rang about every 10 to 20 minutes, and Billy and Tommy could hear other kids yelling, 'Trick or Treat!'
"I know," Wanda comforted them. "I promise we'll do something when you're both feeling better."
The doorbell rang again, and Wanda gave the boys an apologetic look as she went up to answer it, grabbing her large bowl of assorted candy.
"Trick or...did you sleep?"
Wanda stood there with her mouth slightly agape as she stood face-to-face with you. Well, you with a comprehensive skeleton makeup on.
"What are you...?" Wanda started to say but moved to the side so you could come in.
As soon as you walked a little further in, you could hear two excited screams.
"Oh my god, your face is so cool!" Tommy screamed while Billy beamed at you, especially when he saw what was in your hands.
"How are you rugrats feeling?" You asked as they made room for you to sit, holding your giant garbage filled with mysterious crinkling inside.
"Better but mom said not enough to go outside," Tommy sighed dramatically.
"Ah, well, she might have a point. The point is to dress up as a zombie, not actually be one," you chuckled as they both playfully pushed you.
"Anyway," you say with a touch of emphasis to grab their attention. From the corner of your eye, you can see Wanda coming in to lean against the wall as she peered at you curiously. "I know it sucks you two couldn't go out to get the candy, but I thought I'd go out and bring you the spoils. I'll have you know you're so very lucky you're getting all the reward with no work."
You sighed before you moved and dumped the contents out all over their laps. They screamed with joy while you looked over to Wanda, who had her hand over her mouth and watery eyes. You only winked as she playfully rolled her eyes.
"We'll do something way cooler than getting candy from strangers when you're all better," you promise the boys, who stumbled between excited screams and saying thank you.
You start to stand to make your way to Wanda. "How about a movie tonight?"
"Yes!" They both screamed.
"Sweet," you smiled. "Not too much candy, though. Your mom will kill me if I end up making you more sick with too much sweets."
The boys barely hear you, but you chuckled as you made your way to Wanda.
"You didn't have to," Wanda immediately said, but you waved it off.
"It's fine," you told her. "Besides, I saw what was in your bowl of sweets. Someone had to make sure the boys had viable candy when they're better."
Wanda's mouth dropped as she scoffed and pinched your arm, making you jump and swat her hand away. She giggled before she shyly grabbed your hand, making you all fluttery. It had been the first time she had initiated that.
"Thank you," she smiled. "You really care about them too, don't you?"
You shrugged. "They're pretty great kids. I expected no less since their mom is pretty great, too."
"Just great?" Wanda quirked her brow.
"Sounds like a trick question...if I answer it right, will I get a treat?" You smirked, causing Wanda to laugh again as she dragged you over to the couch, cuddling up to you as she tried to find a movie.
Yeah, you have a big fucking crush on your neighbor.
And maybe she has one on you too.
"Wait," Wanda paused. "How did you get people to give you candy?"

Congrats on the 300!! I'd like to see the "did we just kiss?" Drabble cause it sounds so made for Sambucky 👀👀 love your writing 💖💖
Awww, thank you so much for the kind words and prompt, @iamtherealpunkbanana! 🥰 I was hoping someone would choose this one! I hope you're good with a TFATWS fic. I hope you enjoy this drabble! 💕
Prompt 2: “Did we just kiss?”
| 1 | Prompts | 3 |
"No," said Sam, giggling as he leaned onto Bucky, "You didn't."
"I did," said Bucky, nodding resolutely, "I snuck out of her window, thinking there was a fire escape, then fell into a dumpster. The dumpster didn't even have any trash. Someone had picked it up that morning. I fell into metal and garbage slime."
Sam would think that hearing a story about Bucky getting absolutely drenched in mystery gunk would dissuade him from sitting close to Bucky. But as the night went on and everyone else besides Sam and Bucky went to bed, Sam found himself closer and closer to Bucky.
He was practically in Bucky's lap now.
No.
He was in Bucky's lap.
Their legs were tangled. Sam's arms were draped over Bucky's shoulders. Sam felt Bucky's hands holding Sam securely, as if he were worried Sam would fall backward and hit his head on his own desk.
Sam should be telling Bucky to go to bed. He should be helping Bucky get the pullout bed ready. Sam had to work on the boat tomorrow. He had training he needed to do. Sam couldn't find it in himself to move out of Bucky's lap, though.
"I can't believe it was only a mild concussion," said Sam as he gave Bucky a dubious look.
"I was lucky she lived on the second floor," said Bucky, chuckling.
Sam could smell the beer on Bucky's breath. Sam wondered if Bucky could smell it on his as well. Bucky probably could. Super serum senses would definitely pick up more than what Sam could sense.
Sam felt his forehead touch Bucky's.
"Was it worth it?" whispered Sam, "Sneaking into her room to share a kiss?"
"I think it's always worth it," said Bucky, way too honest, "When you love them. When they're captivating and witty and kind. Sometimes, you need to put yourself out there. Because they're worth it."
Sam swallowed hard. Felt his adam's apple bob.
"How many people have been worth it for you?" breathed Sam as he felt their noses bump into each other.
"Not many," said Bucky as he adjusted the angle of his head, "But I can think of a few..."
It was feather-light. Sam almost didn't recognize it for what it was. The tentative movement of Bucky's head. The softness of the lips.
The kiss.
Sam couldn't stop looking into Bucky's eyes. All Sam could hear were the crickets outside chirping, an owl on the prowl, their breathing.
"...Did we just kiss?" Sam finally asked.
Bucky shrugged.
"I think you're worth it," said Bucky confidently.
Sam laughed. Sam melted in Bucky's lap.
"I definitely am," said Sam, pulling Bucky in for a deeper kiss.

Young God [0.1]
Masterlist
July 2011
Her alarm didn't wake her up, but the carnivorous notions of the oncoming day did. Taylor's first show was today. Her first show in America, to be precise. The very idea that she had touched down and was in California in the first place was enough to send goosebumps rippling down her arms and her palms break out into sweats. And Taylor used the phrase 'carnivorous' in the sense that if she didn't put on a good show, she'd be eaten alive by the crowds and never be able to break out across the pond.
Steadily now, Taylor threw the blanket off her head and ran her fingers through the knots and tangles in her blue hair. Behind her was the soft down pillow, and she frowned when she saw the faint stains of black makeup in the linen. Oh, fuck me, she thought to herself. She wiped the crusties from her eyes, and as her vision came into focus she found various liquor bottles scattered across the coffee table. In a bedroom? Oh, that's right; she slept in the living room, on the pullout sofa to be specific. That was why her head was pounding... and why her clothes smelled like the inside of a dirty pub.
Taylor stood on shaky legs, frowning when she saw she was only dressed in an oversized sleep shirt and her panties. Fuck, where were her clothes, now? Taylor held her head as she wandered through the flat, cursing to herself when she suddenly stubbed her toe on the corner of the base boards.
"Oh! -- Motherfuck..."
In the kitchen she found a few more glasses randomly distributed across the countertop, some empty, others smudged with various shades of lipsticks and dirty finger prints. Taylor picked up one, in the glass a liquid that consisted of a ruby red pigment. She didn't care much for what it was, she'd brush her teeth later on. Taylor knocked back the leftover drink, vodka burning down her throat while the sour tinge of the cranberry juice it was mixed with made her lips pucker. Afterwards she went to the sink and filled the glass with cold water, then downed that as well in a single gulp.
Her weary legs took Taylor to the bathroom. The door was closed, and Taylor grumbled when she found it was locked. Inside, she could hear the echo of the shower beating against cold tile. Fucking shame, she needed to take a piss and she smelled like a mini fridge after New Years.
"I fuckin' -- good Lord, Worsnop," she raised her fist and knocked briskly against the door, knowing fully well what a whore Danny was when it came to his showers, "Danny! Hurry up! I need a whizz!" she called through her banging.
"Wait two minutes, Tay!" his usual soft, Yorkshire accent was gravely and gruff. Taylor then pictured Danny as some sort of hybrid singing werewolf because of it.
"No! Either get out or I swear to God -- I'll squat over your ferns!" she shouted. At that, the beating of water quickly ceased, and Taylor stood back with a sly smirk on her face as she heard the bathroom door unlock. It opened and out came a sopping wet Danny with water dribbling down his beard and a towel wrapped firmly around his waist. He shivered as he stepped aside for Taylor, chuckling to himself.
"You're a right prick when you're hungover, Taylor," he said, "The Geordies would be so ashamed of ya!"
"Oh yeah," Taylor sighed, "Look how broken up I am about the fucking Geordies. And clean up that mess out there; you want the people to think we're slobs?" and with that, she slammed the door in his face. Immediately, she was engulfed in the pleasant scent of men's shampoo.
Danny knocked on the door then, "Oi! Why do I gotta' clean it up? You helped make the mess!" he called.
"Yeah! But it's your flat!" Taylor called back, "And I'm your guest,"
"They don't say flats here, Tay," Danny chuckled. Taylor rolled her eyes as she heard his footsteps swish away.
"Whatever," locking the door behind her, Taylor turned to face the mirror and examined the ugly reflection of frizzy blue hair, dark circles and blackened eyelids -- a true indication that she was indeed hungover and on the cusp of a breakdown.
Well she was young, ripe at twenty years of age, and either of those fit well.
She pulled a gag face and tended to her business with the toilet. Afterwards, she ran the cold water from the alabaster sink and proceeded to splash cold water onto her face several times over, scrubbing at her skin with a wash cloth to get rid of the old makeup. Unfortunately, her taste in makeup was good quality, because all the makeup did was slide and stick to her skin.
I don't have the patience today...
Taylor squirted a bare-minimum amount of toothpaste onto her toothbrush and popped it into her mouth, shuddering when she heard a knocking at the door.
"How long ya' gonna' be?" Danny asked, "Not that I'm trying to rush you," Again, Taylor rolled her eyes and unlocked the door, to which Danny took as an invitation to enter. He couldn't help but laugh when he saw the makeup streaked over Taylor's face.
"Not funny, you wanker," she spit through the blue foam.
"I'm not laughing at you, Taylor; I'm only laughing with you," he replied simply.
"I heard that bullshit before," she spat out the fluff and started again, "What time do we gotta' be at the park?"
Danny reached past her face, opening the medicine cabinet to grab his razor and shaving cream, "Somewhere around ten-ish," he replied, "We got some time to kick around, grab a coffee. How ya' feeling?"
"Like I crawled out of a garbage can," she said.
Danny chuckled again, "Besides the hangover, love,"
Taylor spat out the rest of her toothpaste and wiped her mouth with her wrist, turning to Danny with sunken eyes, "Honestly -- I wanna' go home,"
He squirted a bare amount of shaving lotion into his hand and proceeded to smear over and around his soggy beard, "No. Why?" Danny asked.
"Because," Taylor replied, "I ain't gonna' fit in, Dan. I know I won't,"
Danny scoffed back as he switched on his razor, "Taylor, none of us fit in. That's why we go to Warped Tour -- for the weirdos," he said, "And you're the perfect weird addition to our fucked up little family,"
Taylor glowered back at him, "That was a backhanded-compliment, Dan," she stated.
"I'm sorry, Tay. But I can't be as charming when I'm hungover," he said. Taylor threw down her toothbrush and brushed passed Danny, charging into the flat to look for her bag. It wasn't in the living room and it wasn't in the bedroom, where the fuck did he put it?
"It's not just the tour, though," she said, "It's America," she threw her hands up as though to make a dramatic point.
Danny shuffled along in his large bath towel, a quarter shaven and visually following her manic movements as she scoured through his flat, "While I admit it may not be the greatest country in the world, it ain't fucking bad," he said, "They're age restrictions are a little whack,"
"You're telling me. Can't drink until you're twenty-one, fucking bollocks," Taylor huffed as she tried not to trip over the remaining bottles on the floor, "I'm just a little worked up over performing to an American crowd. I don't know how they're gonna' react to me, is all," she said.
"Babe, come on," Danny awed at her, "You was a smash in England, you'll be a right smash in America, too,"
"You're just saying that 'cause I'm your friend and you feel obligated to make me feel better," she replied, then suddenly growling out loud, "Where is my fucking stuff!?"
"In my bedroom," Danny replied oh-so-matter-of-factly. Taylor glowered at him.
"Why is it there?"
"I told you it was there, you said you'd unpack it later on,"
"That was before you got me drunk,"
"We was celebrating!" he cried, "You're big American debut!"
"American debut my skinny arse!" she charged into his bedroom without another word. Danny meanwhile snickered to himself as he shuffled to his fridge, he was suddenly feeling a tad peckish.
"Oi! Finish shaving before you go snacking!" Taylor called suddenly, "You'll look like a rabid dog," Danny's only response was a dramatic, long-winded dog howl.
Andy lit his first cigarette of the morning and leaned against the cold wall of his bus, unpleased at the rising heat that coated his pale skin in a light sheen of sweat. The blue sky still had wisps of the previous evening's indigo and the sun was burning down more intensely than he'd prepared for, which left him feeling rather stifled and uncomfortable, a stark contrast to the cool, air-conditioned environment of the bus he'd been in moments before. It was California days such as this that made him consider cutting back his long hair.
There was more time than usual to kill before the show today and Andy had hoped that everyone would partake in a drink or two whilst they threw around some new ideas, but the boys had instead wandering off for a pre-show meal before their own soundcheck. Left to his own devices, it hadn't take long until he had resorted to a shot of whisky in his coffee, then, feeling miserable, full of self-pity and not at all in the mood to write, he had wandered outside for a smoke.
He puffed his hair from his face feeling it already begin to stick to his forehead. Maybe it was time for a trim. He wondered what he'd look like if he buzzed it all off or changed his style completely. As he smoked, he considered the setlist they'd compiled, he checked his phone and scanned through his messages, he yawned several times and contemplated going back to his bunk, then he took a final drag deep into his lungs, watched it escape through his lips and disappear into thin strands of wispiness above his head before crushing the cigarette with the heel of his boot.
His boredom had gotten the best of him to the point that he decided to wander around the park to kill some time. With it being still early, vendors were still popping and setting up their tents and buses were slowly rolling into the parkade. He felt the eyes of some onlookers, either taking notice for his metal aesthetic or they recognized his long dreads and skinny physique from the posters and t-shirts that were being laid out for fans to purchase later on. Andy grinned suddenly when the familiar twang of rippling guitars ghosted through his ears and he headed towards the MainStage.
A few hours later Taylor stood to the side of the stage, feeling somewhat refreshed, though her head still clung to the smallest trace of a headache just to make her miserable. As if anything could be worse, she was still jet lagged and wanted to go back to bed. She tried to sleep it off in the van, but her tour manager, Robin, barely gave her a moments rest as she went through Taylor's schedule for the next week. Taylor was extremely grateful to have Robin as her manager -- she was the perfect composition of organized and kick-ass. But bloody hell, she was fucking persistent when it came to Taylor's scheduling. Perhaps that was why she had the job in the first place?
Danny was a fantastic showman, he held this charisma that just commanded everybody in the audience -- well, soundcheck -- to pay attention to him and his band: Asking Alexandria. Or perhaps everybody was just staring at that ridiculous fedora he had on today? When they got to soundcheck, Ben refused to let up on how ancient that hat made Danny look, as though he stepped out of a scene from The Great Gatsby.
"You said you'd love me for better or worse, Ben!" Danny cried dramatically.
"I didn't say I'd love that fucking hate, mate," Ben chided back.
Taylor loved watching the band perform, though today she found she couldn't get into their energy as much. She was too on edge, perhaps from the three cups of coffee she'd consumed before she left the flat -- sorry, apartment. She was too nervous for her own gig. Taylor looked over her shoulder at the empty field, a field which would soon be filled with cheering -- or jeering -- audiences. Taylor was new meat, one of the starting-acts, and that was daunting enough to make her stomach turn; and not just from the hangover.
She could still remember her first show back home in Gateshead; many of her friends were there, and they invited friends of friends and so on. Many loved her, others booed at her. Taylor could still hear the ridicule of one audience member who called her Joan Jett wannabe. That just made her want to work harder, prove to them that she was fantastic on her own. She wasn't trying to be the next Joan, or the next Debbie Harry, or Stevie Nicks. Taylor wanted to be the first Taylor Wray.
"This next one I'd like to dedicate to our good friend, Taylor Wray," Danny spoke into the microphone, eliciting little reaction from the stagehands and roadies who watched them. Taylor meanwhile grinned and gave Danny a little wave.
"This one's called 'I Used to Have a Best Friend, But He Gave Me An STD'," and with that, Taylor's smile vanished and she flipped her middle finger at him.
"Fuck you, Danny!" she shouted.
"Right back at ya', love!" Danny called back. With that, the band tore into the song and started jamming out.
Taylor rolled her eyes and instead pushed herself up to sit on the guard rail, tapping the heel of her leather boot in time to James' drum set. She jumped suddenly when she felt a buzz reside within the back pocket of her jeans. Her phone lit up with a text from Maxeen, the bassist of her touring band. She was just wondering what time soundcheck was.
The MainStage was within Andy's line of sight and he wandered through the grass and weeds to watch Asking's set. Watch -- and maybe heckle a bit. From the stage, Ben caught sight of his long-haired mate crossing the threshold, and he stopped mid-strum to wave him down. Lifting his head as he turned back to face his friend, Andy crosses the field, eager to watch his friends but stopped dead in his tracks when his brain caught up with his vision and he realized he wasn't the only spectator in the park.
Sat on the guardrail was a young woman, swinging her legs back and forth as her feet could just touch the second bar in her heeled ankle boots. Her vibrant, teal blue hair immediately caught Andy's attention. When she noticed Ben waving, she shifted to turn and spotted Andy coming her way. When Andy's gaze caught hers, he nearly lost his composure.
He knew it could have only lasted for seconds, that there was no way in which the consistency of time could have altered for him and his own sudden and ridiculous longing, but he could have sworn then, just for a moment, as he laid eyes on her for the first time, that everything fell deadly still around him and begged him to notice her.
And notice her he did.
Her eyes were big and round, lined in black eyeliner and glittered with green, shimmery eyeshadow that brought a warmth to her brown irises. Her jeans were ripped in the knees and the tattoos on her bare arms were on display in the oversized Abbey Road muscle tee she wore. Her thick teal curls flowed in the wind as she ran her free hand back through her locks and he noted the effort it took to detangle her fingers from the strands.
There was an abundant softness about her that made him sigh out loud, a gentle spunk that made him feel as if he'd damage her just from the intensity of his stare but she still gave off an ember of effervescent vibrance when she turned the corners of her lips up at him, his heart thudding against his ribcage just from the bravery in the way she held his gaze.
As if she could feel the way in which he thirstily drank her in, Taylor slowly looked him up and down, catching Andy off guard. He blinked once or twice, just to have something to do besides marvel at her and bit the inside of his cheek to confirm he wasn't dreaming, but now certain that she was looking at him, that her friendly smile was for him -- Andy just about melted.

Do you have any thoughts or headcanons about M and S having unfaithful thoughts or greatest temptation to be unfaithful or maybe actually being unfaithful during their time apart post-IWTB?
i have a lot of Thoughts because i am a sucker for good angst and i love the stabbing pain right at the center of my heart when i read a REALLY good relationship angst fic so-
i think scully tries to date eventually. she wanted out of the darkness and this seemed like the way. moving on with her own life and letting her heart learn to beat without mulder
mulder is 10x more broken if not 100x after she leaves. because she chose to leave him
at first he’s a mess. but then he does try to better himself. for her, mostly. he goes on runs. eats less garbage. buys new fish. after awhile, he decides to step back into civilization. he goes to his favorite coffee shop one day -
he sees her with a man. and it hurts and he feels sick because the man is looking at her the way he looked at her when they first met
she notices him eventually. he goes right home but she follows. they have a talk and tears are shed and things are said. it’s a Fight. but not an angry one. just a sad one and a broken one and one that no one can win.
she tells him she wants them to be happy and that she’ll always love him, but she can’t be with him. he says he’ll always love her and he can’t be with anyone else
he thinks he has lost the ability to fall in love. she was and still is his Constant™️ and she still makes him a Whole Person™️. he thinks moving on would be the end of their chapter and he doesn’t wanna close the book just yet
that said, i don’t think either of them would be celibate. scully’s seeing other men and mulder’s sad. it’s kind of inevitable, as much as people would like to rebuff. but it’s not the same. they don’t talk about it
mulder doesn’t hook up with redheads. it hits too close to home
he never brings women back to the unremarkable house. because it’s their home and he just cant
whenever scully goes home with someone, she never stays the night. too many Big Spoon Scully moments with mulder for her to sleep next to another man without missing him
she has a couple “relationships” but it never really works. she gives up on dating because she realizes she’d rather be half-in with mulder than fully committed with anyone else
then they bang twice on a pullout sofa in plus one BOOM there it is 😎👉🏻👉🏻
#aww i love getting these asks#apparently i did have a loT of thoughts this was longer than i expected#anonymous#ask

hideaway ~ jesse pinkman; el camino
word count: 2822
request?: no
description: when his car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, jesse find shelter with a woman who doesn’t judge him for his past
pairing: jesse pinkman x female!reader
warnings: swearing, mention of abuse, smut
(I can’t find any El Camino gifs yet and it makes me sad so here’s one from Breaking Bad since it technically is also kinda from El Camino)
Jesse thought he was home free as he drove as far away from Albuquerque, and from the horrors he had to endure. However, he was sadly mistaken when Badger’s Fiero started to sputter and slow down. He noticed the gas gauge hovering over empty.
“No, no, no, no,” he said. When the car finally came to a stop, he hit the steering wheel in frustration. “Shit!”
He got out of the car and looked around. There wasn’t even another house for what seemed like miles. He didn’t know what he was going to do. He wasn’t about to try and hitchhike anywhere, not with his face and name plastered everywhere as “Wanted”.
He decided to hope that Badger may have a gas can in his trunk just in case of moments like this. As he popped the trunk and went looking (to no avail), he heard a car pulling up behind him. His heart began to race and he really hoped the person would just drive along and not stop to ask for help.
He cringed when he heard the engine cut and a car door open then close.
“Hey! You alright?”
Jesse reluctantly closed the trunk and turned around to see that the friendly passerby was a woman. She was approaching him, and he really didn’t want her to get any closer.
“I ran out of gas,” he responded, trying not to meet her eye. “Didn’t realize my tank was so low.”
“Well, you’re pretty shit out of luck. There’s not another gas station for god knows how long. You’re essentially in no man’s land,” the girl responded. “You got a gas can or anything?”
Jesse shook his head. “Nope.”
She whistled. “Yeah, you’re really shit out of luck. Where are you headed?”
“Haven’t decided yet. Just trying to get out of town, get away from my past.”
The girl nodded. “Well listen, I know we just met and all, but I live maybe 20 minutes away. If you want, you can stay to my place the night and we can see what to do about your gas in the morning. You can leave your car here, nothing will happen to it. You’d be shocked how many people have been in your same predicament before.”
Jesse really wanted to turn down the offer. For all he knew, this girl was setting him up to be caught. But then again, he believed her when she said there wasn’t another gas station anywhere close, and he couldn’t just stay in the car hoping someone would pass by with a gas can. It’d be a bigger risk than going with this girl.
Finally, he nodded. The girl smiled slightly and nodded towards her car. Jesse followed her, getting into the passenger seat. He sank down just enough that he wouldn’t seem all that recognizable if a cop should pass by them while they drove to the girl’s place.
“You’re pretty trusting,” Jesse commented. “Asking a guy you just met if he wants to stay the night. I could be a crazy serial killer or something.”
The girl chuckled. “I guess that’s right. So, in case you are a serial killer, I should let you know that I have a knife hidden in a strategic place just in case.”
Jesse raised an eyebrow. Smart girl. Although, he couldn’t help but wonder where this “strategic place” was.
She pulled into the driveway of a very small house. She didn’t have any nearby neighbours, which was definitely a good thing for Jesse. He was still very weary of this girl. He couldn’t tell what her game was. She had to know who he was, everyone did. His name was being broadcasted far and wide, police were looking for him everywhere. He was having trouble believing she didn’t know who he was.
She got out of her car and went to unlock her door. He followed her, making sure to keep his head down just in case anyone happened to be passing by.
Her house was very small, definitely perfect for someone who seemed to be living there alone. She threw her keys on a nearby table and shrugged off her jacket, discarding it on the couch as well.
“My couch is a pullout, you can sleep there if you want,” she said. “I’ll just have to grab some blankets and a pillow for you. Feel free to eat whatever is in the kitchen.”
She disappeared down the hall for a moment before returning with some blankets and a pillow. She started pulling the couch out into a bed for Jesse while he watched her. When she had the bed set up, she looked back up at him.
“What?” she asked.
“Do you know who I am?” he finally decided to ask her.
She raised a confused eyebrow at him. “You’re the poor fool that broke down on the side of the road. Should I know you?”
Jesse could tell she was being serious. Somehow, she actually didn’t know who he was.
“No, no sorry forget I said that,” he said. “Thanks for letting me stay here the night.”
“It’s no trouble,” she shrugged. “If you need me, my room is down the hall to the left.” She turned to start walking away, but paused to call over her shoulder, “The name’s (Y/N) by the way.”
~~~~~~~
The minute Jesse’s head hit the pillow he was out like a light. He slept so solid for the first time since he showed up on Skinny Pete’s doorstep, he didn’t even hear (Y/N) get up and start cooking breakfast the next morning. He finally woke up on his own to hear a TV on in the distance. He didn’t pay much attention to it until he heard his own name.
“Authorities are still looking for Jesse Pinkman, who may now be driving a Ford Thunderbird that was once owned a friend of Pinkman’s. According to our insider, Pinkman made a stop to this friend’s house once he escaped and left soon after before the police managed to track down his original get away car, an El Camino.”
Jesse got up and followed the sound of the TV to the kitchen, where he found (Y/N) leaning against a counter watching a small TV she had tucked away in a corner. The first thing he noticed was that she was dressed only in a silk looking robe. However, he was more distracted by the news report she was watching than what she was wearing.
(Y/N) looked over her shoulder, as if sensing his presence. Jesse wasn’t sure what his next course of action should be. He definitely wouldn't get far on foot, but if he left with (Y/N)’s car he’d be caught just as fast. It felt like he had no real options, just to hope he could convince her not to call the cops.
Neither one of them spoke for a while, but when (Y/N) did break the silence, Jesse was shocked by the first thing she said. “Did they really keep you in a cage?”
Jesse winced at the memory. “Yeah...yeah they did. They’d take me out but only if I was chained up, or if I was aware that if I ran they’d kill me.”
“For...for how long?” she asked him.
“Too long,” he responded. “So...is this the point where you turn me in?”
(Y/N) switched off the TV. Jesse glanced at the phone, which right next to (Y/N). He was waiting for her to make the call. He knew there was not much else he could do if she decided to.
“No,” she responded, surprising him. “You’re safe to stay with me as long as you need. My family lives a few hours away and they don’t visit without letting me know first, I’m not exactly friendly with my neighbours so they don’t just pop over for a visit. I can run to the gas station and see about your gas.”
“Why?” Jesse asked. “You could get in a lot of trouble for helping me.”
(Y/N) shook her head. “I’m not turning you in when you’re the victim in this situation. The cops won’t listen to a thing you say, they'll never believe you. They’ll place the blame on you with whatever substantial evidence they can come up with and throw you behind bars just because they can. I refuse to let that happen.”
She looked away from him and crossed her arms. Jesse was shocked by her outburst, and knew it came from somewhere personal. He approached her slowly, lightly touching her arm. She reluctantly looked up at him again.
“Did something happen to you?” he asked. He wasn’t quite sure why he cared so much, but he suddenly felt protective over this girl. She was kind enough to open her home to him, to keep a fugitive in her home when she knew how much trouble she could get into if they were caught. She had known him for one night and already made him feel safer than anyone he had known for longer, his own parents included.
A single tear slipped down her cheek and she quickly wiped it away. “I had this ex...he used to go out and get drunk with his buddies and when he came home he’d be violent. Usually if I was asleep he’d just go right to bed, but if I was awake for any reason he’d find a reason to hit me - would say that I looked at another guy in a flirty way and he didn’t like it, that I treated him like garbage, that I talked back to him. Any reason, he’d use it. He’d wake up in the mornings and look at my bruises and tell me that he hoped it taught me a lesson. It got to a point where I was walking on eggshells around him, I felt like I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t go anywhere, like I had to bend to his every whim in order to make it all stop.”
She looked down at the floor, the pain from the memory written across her face. “One night, I was in the kitchen making lunch for the both of us for the next day. He got home a lot earlier than I expected. He yelled at me because he didn’t like what I was making and tried to swing at me. I had a knife in my hand and finally decided to fight back. I stabbed him, yelled at him to get the fuck out and never return, that I’d have his stuff on the front doorstep in the next morning. For a minute, I thought it worked...until his lawyer showed up on my doorstep with an assault and attempted murder charge. Claimed that I randomly went insane and tried to kill him after he went out to a ‘friendly dinner with some work pals’.”
Jesse was so invested in his story, he started feeling very angry at this unknown ex-boyfriend. He wasn’t a violent person, despite the shit he had gone through recently, but he knew that if he ever happened to find out who this guy was he might not be able to stop himself from giving him an impromptu visit.
“He took me to court, cried crocodile tears, showed off the scar I gave him, claimed that I supposedly ruined his life because of it even though it happened like a week prior. I kept my composure, explained everything he did to me to the court, said that I only stabbed him in self defence. I even had some bruises from a previous time that I showed everyone. His lawyer claimed I gave them to myself to win over the jury’s sympathy. The jury, which was 80% men, were on his side and it looked as though I was going to jail, until our neighbour...our male neighbour, took the stand to admit he had heard the abuse many nights. Said that he called the police but nothing was ever done. I don’t know if they ever showed up at our door and my ex chased them away, or if they just didn’t care. After that, I was ruled innocent and he was charged with domestic abuse. Was served a measly year long sentence and got probation not even 6 months in. I filed a restraining order when I heard he was getting out and got the hell out of Dodge so I’d never have to see him again.”
Her story lingered in the air. It was silent besides the TV, now playing a story that wasn’t about Jesse. (Y/N) refused to look at Jesse as she bit back her tears. She shook her head, although wasn’t sure what she was shaking it about; in anger? To erase those memories that she was still struggling with?
“The system is so corrupt,” she finished. “If you’re not a rich man, they’ll rule against you. I’d never send you out to be a part of that, to be wrongfully convicted of something you never did. I wouldn’t let you go through the bullshit I did.”
Jesse gently touched her chin with his hand, causing her to look up at him. Her beautiful eyes were full of tears as she looked up at him. He wiped them away and cradled her face in his hands.
“I’m so sorry that happened to you,” he said. “I’m glad you got out of that situation, and I’m grateful that you’re letting me stay here even if it would get you in lots of trouble.”
She smiled. “It’s the least I can do. Besides, if I get to wake up to see stuff like this every day, I’m not too mad about it.”
She eyed Jesse’s naked torso. Although he wasn’t in the best of shape, and he had scars on his body from the torture he endured, he looked incredibly hot. (Y/N) was having a bit of trouble keeping her eyes off him.
Jesse chuckled slightly. (Y/N) looked up at him again and, feeling bold, leaned up to press her lips to his. Jesse was taken back at first, his knee jerk reaction being to push her away. (Y/N)’s face turned a bright color of red as she looked away from him.
“I’m sorry, I dont know what came over me. That was super inappropriate.”
Jesse took her face in his hands again and pulled her back to him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him deeply and passionately. He held her tightly to him, never wanting to let go. He grabbed her ass, picking her up and placing her on the counter, never once breaking their kiss. She wrapped her legs around his waist, now trapping him against her completely.
Jesse moved his hands over her thighs, sending chills through her body. When he got close enough, he came to realize that she really was wearing nothing but the robe.
Her hands traced the hem of his jeans, as if debating on whether or not she should try to take the jeans off. Jesse beat her to it by unbuttoning his jeans and pulling them, along with his underwear, down just enough to free what it was (Y/N) was looking for.
She gasped against his lips as he pushed into her. It had been so long since she had been intimate with anyone, it took her a moment to get used to him inside of her.
“Am I hurting you,” he asked, looking at her with his beautiful blue eyes full of concern.
She giggled. “No, I’m fine Jesse. Continue at your own pace...please.”
He smirked slightly at her begging and began to thrust into her. Her hands curled against his back, just narrowly avoiding his scars. He hissed in pain at first as her nails dug into his back, the sting far too familiar, but soon enough the pain turned into pleasure.
Both of their moans filled the house. (Y/N) put her head against Jesse’s shoulder, her eyes almost rolling in the back of her head with pleasure as she clung to him. It didn’t take her long until she was hitting her climax. Jesse kissed her deeply again as he felt himself nearing his own.
They were both tangled together for a long time after it was all over. (Y/N)’s robe had come undone and fallen open, leaving her completely exposed. Both of them had a slight sheen of sweat over them. They both pulled away from one another, fixing themselves up.
(Y/N) sighed. “I’ll have to sanitize this entire counter before I can make breakfast.”
Jesse chuckled. “Sorry, my bad.”
“I mean, I wasn’t completely complaining,” she responded, winking flirtatiously back at Jesse.
He smiled, suddenly feeling very happy about his current living arrangements.
How Kitchen Cabinets Evolved with The Time?
Kitchen cabinets are small furniture that are used to store all kind of food, kitchen ware, utensils and vessels. Some other essentials like water purifier, refrigerator and dishwashers are also fitted with cabinets nowadays to give kitchen a symmetrical interior design. Many designer kitchen accessories manufacturers provide kitchen cabinets in several designs.
History of kitchen cabinets goes back to 18th century when human started to preserve meat by coating it with salt and needed a cabinet to put the extra meal somewhere inside the cooking area.
By the early 1900 wooden furniture called as Hoosier cabinet came in to the market and sold over ten thousand cabinets per year. To speak of proper wooden and other integrated cabinets started to have places in kitchen came in to light in 1900 only after the first Hoosier cabinet introduced to the market. We can define some designs as per the time line after that like
1910-1930 these were the times when the world was just about to move from basic needs to luxury lifestyle and started having different rooms for different needs like dining room, kitchen and pantry room to store the food and edibles. Most of the vessels and dishes were also stored in these places along with food.
1930-1940 were the times of industrial age and this started mass production of almost every essential human needed to survive and show the status of their luxury lifestyle among society. This started an unannounced war of marketing which proposed people to have more and more useful essentials for their houses and specially kitchens. That was the time when people realized to have more use of their kitchen space which gave architects spaces to use wisely and so the designs of inbuilt cabinets came in light. These cabinets were smooth on upper surface and would usually be used to put essentials inside while could be used to work upon them. This also worked as the early models of modern-day kitchen cabinets.
1940-1960 were also called as post world war era of reformed designs and artifacts. The industrial age had begun with the start of world war two and so many inventions had been done by the government in war times basically in search for durable materials for weaponry systems and many more subjects. These inventions had no practical use once after the war was over and so many foundries redirected themselves from making weaponry systems to household products. Formica was one of the products introduced after world war era and was more durable and compatible then former mica’s used to put on cabinet tops. These Formicas were coated with ceramic kind resins and were easy to place on countertops. Improved designs of frameless cabinets were soon adopted all over the world and shaped the modern kitchen cabinet history.
1960-1990 were the times when the world economy was grooming and prospering together with ease of travel after the invention of airplanes. New materials and designs were introduced almost each month by one competitor or another. It gave consumers a number of options to redesigning or decorating their kitchen spaces on different modules like space saving or expensive and attractive modules. Thick countertops and lightweight appliances for the high ceilings and integrated oven to get installed in to cabinets and larger fridge sizes to give more space for food storage.
1990-modern days kitchen improved enormously with almost every material in use with millions of colors and designs. The choice of products is so many that no two kitchens in today’s time can look exactly same if not chosen to be. From refrigerators to the tabletop stoves and dishwasher or oven choices. Everything and anything can be integrated with any color and design inside the kitchen cabinets. Pullout garbage cabinets’ hideaways or quietly shutting cabinet drawers. One can ask for anything he could think of having inside the kitchen and it is possible with small or almost no changes in the exterior designs.
Cabinets are usually made of hardwood but also the plywood and particleboards are commercially more accessible and in value for money segments.
Three most used types of cabinets are
Face-Frame Cabinets are the traditionally built cabinets with a frame made of strong materials like hardwood. It uses the frame to give the cabinet an accurate and desired shape and to make sure that the shape doesn’t get deflected. It also gives a strong base to the hinges and mountings to be put on the walls easily. Covered with narrow strips or a lighter material to give it a proper style and color of choice face frame cabinets have a long and glorious history.
Frameless Cabinets are the mordent day cabinets which uses the most space available in modern day kitchen. Frameless cabinets gives the modern kitchen all those endless possibilities of maximum space with desired designs accessible at any place and space available.
Custom Cabinets are the cabinets built specifically to cover a specific space given by the customers. Theses cabinets are a little expensive than usual ready to fit cabinets available in markets. These cabinets can both be frameless and frame faced to make full use of the space available. You can get them from any supplier who deals in designer kitchen accessories throughout the world.
How Kitchen Remodeling in Phoenix and Scottsdale, AZ Helps Prepare for the Holidays?
It will soon be time for the holidays when friends and families will start getting together at home for fun-filled parties and days of spending in leisure. The kitchen, which is always the busy area in the house, gets all the busier with additional guests and friends. If the kitchen is not well-organized, then this is going to be extremely difficult for the host to manage things. Hence, if a kitchen remodeling in Phoenix and Scottsdale, AZ, has been on the cards for long, this is the time to get it done. Before the festivities begin, discussing the kitchen remodeling plans with a professional contractor is better and starting as early as possible. A kitchen remodeling can be of any scale, but much of it depends on how much change the homeowner aims for. Will it be a simple rearrangement of pieces or a complete renovation will be decided by the need of the homeowner. If too many guests are coming over, or there are many family members, then the kitchen has to be spacious, well-equipped, and well-stocked. The remodeling should follow the line of need. How to go about the remodeling? Following are ways in which the kitchen can be remodeled and given a new look: Consider the walls and flooring- Changing the walls and flooring is a great place to start. Trust a good contractor for the job, and even if replacing hardwood or laminate or tile flooring might seem time-consuming, the professionals can get it handled within less time. New floors and walls can dramatically make the kitchen appear fresher and brighter. At the same time, change the kitchen backsplash. The kitchen backsplash is the focal point of the kitchen; changing it will only freshen the outdated interiors. It is better to opt for a durable material, or one can also choose tiles but get them arranged in a classic pattern. Change the plumbing and upgrade the appliances- Work becomes simplified, and cooking becomes simple with smart kitchen appliances. When holidays are around the corner, and one has to prepare elaborate feasts, one can have more than a pair of hands working in the kitchen. Besides adding more space, upgrading the appliances will help cook meals faster. A double oven or a larger fridge can be good upgrades. Plus, adding a second and large sink is also a wise choice. Either install a prep sink on the kitchen island or place a faucet behind or near the stove for filling the pots. Work on the light fixtures- A dark kitchen is not the right place to work. Hence, do away with all the existing lighting fixtures if they don’t illuminate the place well. Elaborate wiring might be required to change all the light fixtures. It is better not to try hands at the same and ask the contractor handling the kitchen remodeling to take care of the job. Opt for proper task lighting to brighten up the working areas. Under the cabinet lighting is a must for quickly finding the necessities. Maximizing seating and storage- Storage is essential in the kitchen. Apart from installing kitchen cabinets, open up space in the kitchen by going for retractable garbage bins, dividers or pullout shelves, and more. Incorporate a designated seating area in the kitchen by introducing a breakfast nook or adding a set of barstools at the end of the island. Holidays are all about fun and relaxing with family members and friends. Good food helps in smooth discussions and a hearty laugh at the table. Hence, consider making changes to the place where holiday meals can be prepared quickly and with a fulfilling heart. Holidays are all about bringing new changes, and a home renovation in Scottsdale and Phoenix, AZ, is also a great way to usher in newness into the home.
Chicago Remodeling Costs: Kitchen, Bath, Whole-Home
Sweeten’s guide to Chicago remodeling costs in 2021, including kitchen, bath, and whole-home (plus outdoor budgets and permit tips!)
(Above) Remodel by Sweeten general contractor Christina. Photo: Chicago Home Photos
The budgeting step can be nerve-wracking for first-time Chicago renovators. You’ve finally moved on from daydreaming to starting a remodel of your home. Start by gathering some basic details: know what you can actually afford, and plan to add a small reserve on top of that. The materials you want to use also factor in, as well as how much work will be done. Plus, everything that isn’t visible—the infrastructure—will impact your costs. This can be a lot to keep track of, especially if this is your first time renovating.
Fortunately, Sweeten has done some of the legwork in this guide to Chicago remodeling costs. This guide focuses on some of the major remodeling categories: whole house remodels, kitchen, bath, additions—as well as permits. You can use these details to create an accurate budget for a Chicago-area renovation.
Sweeten matches home renovation projects with vetted general contractors, offering advice, support, and up to $50,000 in renovation financial protection—for free.
Here’s a breakdown of typical starting costs (including labor and materials) gathered from Sweeten contractors and the 2021 Cost vs. Value Report:
Full-home renovation: From $100 per square foot (psf)
Budget bath remodel: $15,000—$20,000 (based on 35 sq ft)
Mid-grade bath remodel: $21,000 (based on 35 sq ft)
High-end bath remodel: $28,500 (based on 35 sq ft)
Budget kitchen remodel: $22,000 (based on a 100 sq ft)
Mid-grade kitchen remodel: $30,000 (based on 100 sq ft)
High-end kitchen remodel: $37,500 (based on 100 sq ft)
Basement remodel: $40,000—$75,000
Keep in mind that every professional contractor will want to have a detailed conversation with you. They will also inspect your home before developing an estimate specific to your needs and wants.
Pro tip: Do not wait. The pandemic has caused a backlog in the supply of materials in many sectors. For homeowners interested in renovating, it’s smart to schedule and sign with a contractor to lock in your material prices. You’ll also want to book a start date on the contractor’s schedule. If you do wait, prices will only continue to go up and your material order starts at the back of a long queue.
Chicago remodeling costs per square foot
Gut renovation vs. non-gut renovation
Gutting a home pretty much means starting from scratch. You’ll take everything down to the studs or framework, and/or you’ll knock down walls. Because it’s more intricate, a gut job starts at the higher end of the $100 to $200 psf range. By contrast, a remodel of the space within existing walls will be at the lower end. For example, remodeling a 700-square-foot, one-bedroom condo may range from $50,000 to $70,000, while a gut reno likely will exceed $100,000. This work usually involves running new plumbing pipes and wiring, moving doorways, and possibly installing new flooring.
Costs for a full home gut renovation start at $100 per square foot. Take note: this scope of work is extensive! Expect demo, framing, insulation and drywall, wiring, plumbing, heating/cooling systems, millwork, paint, flooring, tile, light fixtures, electronics, and all finishes. (This excludes appliances, which can significantly increase costs, depending on how high-end they are.) According to Chicago-based Sweeten contractor Ryan, “A whole-house renovation—say, 3,000 square feet—would cost $200,000, at the low end, and start at $400,000 at the high end. It all depends on the materials chosen.”
Wet rooms—connected to a water supply, such as bathrooms or kitchens—typically start at $250 psf. In the city, bathrooms in condos or co-ops can be as small as 30 square feet. However, in freestanding homes, they are typically larger than 5’ x 8’. High-end renovations that are fully custom with luxury materials can cost upwards of $700 per square foot. Architectural design and drawings, demolition, construction, materials, fixtures, lighting, and finishes are included in the fee.
Contractors may build in overage fees to their estimates. This allows for the unexpected—which definitely can happen—to be covered. Overages are usually 10-15% of the project cost. (Sweeten recommends that the renovator reserve at least 10-15% above the bid as well). Don’t let the numbers shock you, though: the beauty of using a general contractor is that it’s one-stop shopping. Working with a contractor covers pretty much all the trades required for the job. This spares you the work of hiring individual tradesmen to complete the various aspects of your project.
Chicago-based Sweeten contractor Brad recommends being realistic about how much you can spend. “You can’t buy a $100,000 ring on a $5,000 budget. Nail down your contractor first; they know pricing. And add 15 percent for unexpected conditions.”
Average cost of a kitchen remodel in Chicago
Budget kitchen renovation costs
A typical starting point is $22,000 based on a 100-square-foot kitchen. According to the 2021 Cost vs. Value Report, the average is $31,004 for 200 square feet. This translates to stock cabinets, hardware, and countertops, plus swapping outdated appliances with newer and more energy-efficient models.
Mid-grade kitchen renovation costs
Sweeten has found that a 100-square-foot space at this finish level can start at $30,000. For a kitchen at 200 square feet, expect to pay an average of $81,820, according to the Cost vs. Value Report. This includes custom lighting, updating 30 linear feet of semi-custom wood cabinets, new countertops, a 3′ x 5′ island, double-tub stainless steel sink with single-lever faucet, garbage disposal, built-in dishwasher, energy-efficient range, vented hood, built-in microwave, dishwasher, and new flooring.
High-end kitchen costs
Based on what Sweeten has seen, expect starting costs to be $37,500 for a 100-square-foot room at this finish level. According to the Cost vs. Value Report, a kitchen at 200 square feet starts at $160,000. Expect top-flight custom cabinets with interior detailing like partitioned drawers, pullout shelves, pop up and down storage, stone, quartz, or porcelain countertops, stone or imported tile backsplash. Also included are custom lights, under-cabinet lighting, hardwood, stone or porcelain flooring, and typical high-end appliances.
Sweeten contractor Ryan has seen kitchens cost $50,000 for a gut remodel, and at the high end, closer to $100,000. “Those figures,” he says, “can vary greatly, as some cabinetry alone might cost $80,000.”
Average bathroom remodel costs in Chicago
Budget bathroom costs
A starting point can be $15,000—$20,000 for a 35-square-foot-space with budget-friendly finishes from big box stores like Walmart, Home Depot, Menards, and Lowe’s. As this is a wet space, plumbing, electrical insulation, and exhausts, as well as correcting misaligned walls and floors will be part of the job.
Mid-grade bathroom
For a 35-square-foot space, a remodel will start at $21,000. According to 2021 Cost vs. Value Report, $27,570 is the average cost for this type of project. This includes a recessed medicine cabinet, standard toilet, solid-surface vanity counter, and a porcelain tub.
High-end bathroom
The typical cost at this finish level starts at $28,500 for 35-square-feet. The 2021 Cost vs. Value Report cites an average of $82,838 for a high-end renovation, based on a bathroom over 200 square feet. Features at this level include new ductwork, radiant heated floors, custom cabinetry, separate shower, freestanding tub, and custom lighting.
Costs for a master suite addition
Mid-grade master suite addition costs
Estimated costs are around $452 psf or $177,273 for a 24′ x 16′ space, including double vanity, freestanding tub, separate shower, walk-in closet, dressing area, according to 2021 Cost vs. Value Report. Whether it’s a ground-level addition, a basement remodel, or a second-floor addition, accessing rough-ins for plumbing will vary and affect pricing.
High-end master suite addition costs
For a 32′ x 20′ master suite with a separate sitting area and large master bath over a crawl space, costs are around $553 psf or $359,232, according to 2021 Cost vs. Value Report. This kind of project includes custom shelving, built-in storage, as well as a walk-in closet and dressing area with windows.
Basement renovation costs in Chicago
A starting budget for a basement is around $100 psf. At the low end, the cost averages $40,000 and includes a bathroom with a shower. Flooring options can vary significantly, including laminate, vinyl, engineered wood, porcelain tile, or stained concrete. At the high end, a project for $75,000 may include a 5′ x 8′-foot bathroom with a shower, a wet bar, and flooring in an overall space measuring 20′ x 30′.
Costs for a basement renovation can be affected by multiple factors. Consider the existing condition of the space, if plumbing pipes need to be installed or moved, if new water service is required and if bracing needs to be done to eliminate structural supports in the middle of a space. Also take into consideration ceiling height, since Chicago basements are typically 8 feet or less, and as low as 6’7″. If you want to raise the ceiling, that requires digging out and underpinning the foundation. In addition, it’s necessary to assure the space is waterproof. A perimeter drain tile system is installed (repaired or extended). Connecting it to a sump pump also is important to consider, and this cost can start at around $2,500.
Chicago remodeling costs for permits
The permit process for renovating varies from Chicago to its suburbs, with each of the village’s or town’s governing bodies determining requirements and fees. In Chicago, permits are obtained through the Building Department. The issue in common is safety and compliance with building codes.
In Winnetka, remodeling permits cost $30 per $1,000 of construction; new construction is $1.30 per square foot of new gross area. There also are permit fees for plumbing, electrical service ($9,800 for 200 amp service; $21,000 for 400 amp service), furnace, and AC as well as roofing and pools. In Hinsdale, the permit fee for remodeling is calculated on two percent of the value of construction. In addition, expect to pay permit fees for demolition ($3,000).
In Chicago, applications for building permits must include architectural drawings and names of all licensed contractors—plumbers, electricians, HVAC contractors (usually supplied by the general contractor). There is no one size fits all. But expect to pay between $1,500 and $2,000 minimally for a whole house remodel, major kitchen, and/or bath. The larger the project, the more the fee, ranging to as high as $10,000.
There’s also an Easy Permit Program for small projects that do not require architectural drawings (usually available the same day). There are nominal costs (a few hundred dollars for plumbing and electrical permits), which usually are pulled by those contractors.
Garlean Housing Ideas
I keep getting this amazing image in my mind of what Garlean apartments, flats and houses could be like. So, here is how I like to think of the technologically advanced homes these guys live in.
I like to imagine Garlean houses are very open. There are few doorways with the exception of private rooms such as bedrooms, baths and studies. Electricity is obvious, as is plumbing and tech of convenience that you would not see in other places.
There are panels in the walls that slide out to store your coat, shoes, hat, purse, etc as you come home. There are options for higher ranking individuals to have chutes for both garbage and laundry. For those rank praefectus and above, perhaps they get free laundered garments and trash disposal. The panels slide back in and appear to be just another part of the wall when not in use.
Art and music are an integral part of Garlean culture. Owning art is a necessity if you’re a high ranking officer. When you invite your mates over, you absolutely have to be able to point out to your paintings, which are provided built in shadowboxes and lighting by more adjustable panels in the walls. The art is very colorful and bright compared to the silvers, greys and blacks of Garlean homes.
The lines are very sharp. Fireplaces have stainless steel mantels and framing. There’s a high-heat resistance vacuum for removing the burned bits after a fire is extinguished by either the owner or a timed sensor.
Sensors and smart elements are integral to the home. There are trail lights at the bottom of the molding in ever room. When the sensors pick up that you’re walking at night, they light up to lead you to wherever you’re going via predictive learning.
The kitchen is home to wonderful tech Eorzeans would be jealous of. The smart ice box, no longer just for keeping things cold, also has a more powerful function, allowing for freezing of goods. There is a terminal on the front that one can request a meal from one of the many restaurants or cafes located in the surrounding 5 malm radius. The oven is self-cleaning and is able to broil, bake and has a switch setting to convection. Both the ice box and ovens are built into the walls for a clean look. A coffee bar is often placed for convenience and allows two-to-three seats depending on size of the flat or home. A programmable machine brews coffee to perfection every time and even has attachments for making lattes and teas. Under the coffee bar’s top is a built in wine or liquor chiller with pull out drawers for strainers, zesters, glasses and anything else one may need for cocktails or mixed drinks. The sharp lines of the kitchen, silvers and stainless steel make for a very professional feel in even the most comfortable of places. A sensor ensures that the temperature of the area stays at the resident’s preferred number all year, especially when the oven is active.
A grease drain separates fat solids from liquids and allows the safe disposal of all kinds of oils without harming any inner pipes or workings. A food composter sits under the large two bay sink. The composter is completely hands safe and is able to tell food from finger via small bursts of imaging. The composter also saves data from foods and other items that have been composted to tell you the ph balance and moisture content of your fertilizer. If you enjoy indoor gardening, it is useful to use the scraps from inside the composter rather than purchasing them. Indoor gardening is a very popular hobby in Garlemald, as the landscape itself is rarely suitable for farming. A recent poll suggested that at least sixty-percent of all Garleans have some form of indoor plant, and at least forty-percent of that number are citizens growing their own vegetables or herbs! Every window can be outfitted with a self grooming gardening or flower bed. Simply mention to your HOA which you plan to take up and they can help arrange a delivery of seeds and soil for a very small deduction from your upcoming pay cheque.
Beyond the beautiful lines and clean sophistication of Garlean living areas, are the bathrooms. For Praefectus and above ranks, the bathrooms of each apartment are a luxury afforded no where else on Hydaelyn. The toilet seat is heated during the coldest months of the year, or year round if specified. A set of tall, thin vents in the wall blow warm air immediately after it senses you’ve exited the shower or bath. The hair dryer, flat iron and other bath room accessories are kept in yet another pull out panel in the wall. All toiletries are kept in their own separate panel that is lined with an anti-microbial vinyl that protects them from any bacteria that may travel in the air via the toilet flushing. Which, we might mention, is also automated. There is a motion sensor hand washing unit that not only dispenses water, but also foaming soap, warm or cold air and lotion. Top it all off with a beautiful marble finish on the countertops, glass above-counter sink bowl, tiled shower, claw-footed porcelain jet tub and freshly laundered and folded towels via a magitek automaton every single day.
The study is a highly customizeable area of your home! Choose from templates for a library, office, media room, theater, gaming area or craft room. Or speak with your HOA and design your own room with their guidance! All templates come with a choice from either hardwood or steel fixtures for desks, chairs, side tables, built-in cabinets and book shelves. Crafting rooms can either be a single focus room for mixed media, painting, sculpting or a combination of any choices. Special order looms, easels and other built-ins are available at an extra cost. Theaters come with a year’s subscription to Garlemald’s current leading entertainment provider. Whether you’re interested in current films, the performing arts, concerts or live shows, your comfort and entertainment are sure to be met!
Some homes are equipped with a second story to provide more rooms for either growing families or for guests! The sleek and refined finish of the stairs will impress anyone as your guest ascend to the next floor on hovering stairs. The illusion of no rails and glass walls plus the inflection of light make an optical trick that makes the stairs appear to float with no support. As always, tracked lighting on the stairs lead you safely to your destination every time. The landing pad at either side of the stairs feature a pull out safety wall to keep pets or small children from falling down or climbing up the stairs. All outlets in the home are also equipped with child safety guards. The outlet covers will only allow plugs to enter the electrical current, by reading the pulses of ceruleum emitted by the power cables to every device. Now would also be a good time to mention that Cerluem Blue provides free wireless connectivity to the intranet for one year after your purchase of a home. Any object that runs off of the intranet, including ice boxes, coffeemakers, vacuums, toilets and other devices can freely communicate with your smart terminal, free of charge.
Your terminal can be placed in either your bedroom or your office. It is a sleek and thin screen with a pullout keyboard. You can control the lighting, heat and air, humidity, air filters and schedule the automated cleaning services of your roombatek, composter, garden and even your entertainment terminals! You can choose from varying builds that can function as gaming terminals, as well.
Finally, there is the master bedroom! Only the finest in quality and modern convenience emerge as emperor here. Featuring your choice of platform, cabinet, raised or canopy bed in any size from Princess to Garlean Emperor. Your purchase comes with two sets of ultra-luxe fine woven magithread sheets. If you’ve not tried the soft and supple rabbit skin comforters from magithread, we highly recommend them during the winter, along with their thick woven deep pocket winterized sheets.
Either carpeting or hardwood is available in the master suite. A bay window frames a built-in bench surrounded by book shelves. Any lover of books in your life would be thrilled to sit among the floating clouds as they enjoy their next fantasy!
The master closet is impressive! Boasting an organizational system with lights and enough space to hold nearly one hundred pairs of shoes, plus fifty purses or twenty-five briefcases, one hundred dresses or tuxedos and even containing hidden room for a safe, hat boxes, purse boxes and canes!
You’re sure to love your modern Garlean home that is as special as you are! Apply now for Praefectus pricing on the ultra-luxe flat! Payable weekly, bi-weekly or monthly automatically from your pay cheque! Every service and room listed herein comes to the final cost of:
A Look Into The Future: What Will The Art Deco Glass Furniture Industry Look Like In 10 Years?
15 Style Features Of A Dream Cooking area
All developers and also homeowners have their suggestions concerning what makes a fantastic kitchen, however throughout my years in the layout world, I've pertained to rely upon several best approaches for creating an effective, useful, lovely space. The addition of any kind of one of these products would significantly boost the appeal of an area. Integrate them all, as well as you would certainly have one stunning desire kitchen area.
1. Ample lighting. Incorporating different sorts of lighting in any area is fundamental, however it's particularly valuable in the kitchen area. An abundance of natural light is superb, however cooking areas additionally require practical resources of artificial light: ambient lights to develop an overall radiance, task lighting to illuminate workspaces and also accent illumination to highlight attributes in the room.
Brightening on a budget: Not prepared for a lights overhaul? Start by replacing your old light bulbs with LEDs-- they last longer, are extra energy effective as well as are available in amazing, cozy and neutral colour temperatures. Undermounted LED rope lighting, or puck lights are also budget friendly choices for lighting locations where cupboards cast darkness.
2. Abundant seats. Among the biggest demands I listen to as an interior developer is a requirement for even more visitor seats. People often tend to congregate in kitchens, so make certain there is sufficient room for pals to collect in locations that won't hinder the performance of your prep area.
Round tables are a wonderful method to provide simpler traffic flow and also can typically seat 4 to six people. Drop-leaf or extendable tables provide you flexibility. They can be pressed against the wall surface off the beaten track when not in use or gotten used to develop added seats for entertaining guests. This is a good service for a home that lacks an official dining-room.
3. Surface. A big island with great deals of counter room and also seating offers room for cooperation. Regular jobs such as paying expenses, sorting through mail, doing research or whipping up dinner can be implemented without first needing to move points around to make area. Having this clear surface area additionally has an emotional result that makes the residence seem clean also if other locations of the home are haphazard or covered with heaps of items.
No area for an island? Here are a couple of space-saving tips:
When every square inch counts, do not give up surface location for the tiny things. Mount your paper towel holder to obtain it up and out of the method. Rather than making use of a knife block, shop flatware on the wall using a magnetic strip. Locate a reducing board that fits over your sink or cooktop to ensure that beneficial counter space doesn't go to waste.
Fold-down workstation surfaces are the Murphy bed of the kitchen. They give you additional space when you require it as well as run out the means when you do not. They're likewise rather low-cost and also very easy to set up.
Or aim to our following must-have kitchen accessory: the movable workstation.
4. Movable workstation. An island on wheels, and even a bar cart, is terrific for cooking and enjoyable. It supplies more storage space and a versatile surface for prepping as well as serving.
What to look for: Stainless steel is great due to the fact that it's sturdy as well as simple to tidy, or decide for the extra budget friendly option, butcher block, for a different looks. When it involves dimension, make certain you have concerning 36 inches between the edge of the island and also bordering counter tops so as not to impede website traffic flow. Depending on your choice, you can select counter height or bar elevation. Make note of what's most comfortable prior to you go out shopping.
5. Ordered drawers. Split and dominate! Save your time and also peace of mind by keeping things cool and very easy to locate. Inserts as well as divider panels include framework to cabinets where loosened products often tend to accumulate. Having marked areas for all probabilities and ends will certainly assist you avoid overflow.
When searching for organisers, bear in mind first to gauge your cabinets. Prevent affordable plastic alternatives that warp gradually, as well as instead, search for something simply as sturdy as the cabinetry.
Tool storage space is essential. It's better (and cleaner) to nicely conceal devices than to have a bouquet of spatulas remaining on the counter.
Shallow spice storage permits you to swiftly see what you have instead of screwing up through a crowded cluster of containers. Incentive points if you relocate your spices from their initial packaging right into matching containers.
Stack cooking sheets and also cutting boards up and down in deep cabinets (if you have them) or narrow closets for less complicated accessibility. Dividers will maintain them upright. Do not forget to specify different cutting boards for produce, meats and bread.
Organisation for food storage space containers always appears to be a second thought (and also among the messiest components of the majority of kitchens). The amount of times have you reached for a piece of Tupperware only to locate its corresponding cover has disappeared? Cabinets consume loose covers, so keep them with each other. We favor glass storage for food as it is microwaveable and also remains in good condition much longer.
6. Pot as well as pan (and also lid) organisation. If you can get hold of a pot or pan and its cover without evasion the remainder of your cookware around, you're golden. Hanging them from hooks is a wonderful method to achieve this feat as well as make reliable use of upright room.
7. Pullout corner storage space. Smart closet organisers supply simpler access and assistance increase the otherwise dead area where your Tupperware lids are possibly concealing.
You can locate a multitude of products such as this online or via your neighborhood cabinets firm, and also the majority of corner features can be retrofitted to your existing kitchen cabinetry.
8. Committed appliance storage. Surprise storage space for tiny home appliances liberates counter space for a lot more useful usages.
When creating your kitchen or renovation cupboards, think about adding an appliance garage to keep your tools concealed. Homeowners also can convert an existing office by installing pullout shelves that supply quick and simple access to home appliances when you require them. Whatever you do, assign an assigned area for each and every gizmo, so they do not wind up awkwardly stacked on top of the refrigerator or out on the counter.
9. Tough hardware. Protect your cupboards with equipment. In time, oil from hands can use down the coating and unclean up or scratch the paint. Prevent unnecessary damage with sleek pulls or handles that will extend the life of your cabinetry. Search for a strong metal or something durable with significant weight. It will certainly benefit you-- as well as your cabinets-- in the lengthy run.
10. Citrus. When life offers you lemons, placed them to function. Whether you're including a little enthusiasm to your dish, spritzing up a rejuvenating beverage, loading up on vitamin C or just tidying up the cooking area, citrus is a valuable product to have on hand (plus, it presents well as a great splash of colour).
Lemons as well as limes are fantastic for organic rubbish disposal cleanup. Running the peels through water aids to clean the blades, and also the oils refurbish the fragrance. You can additionally prepare your organic cleaning service with lemon, baking soda as well as vinegar-- guide clear of marble countertops. The acid can trigger discoloration and also etching.
11. Hand Towels. Use decorative linen towels to minimize waste by utilizing less paper towels. Not just are towel towels much more environment-friendly, yet they additionally conserve you loan and include a little charm to the kitchen area.
In addition to your attractive tea towels and towel napkins, you'll desire to maintain a stack of cleaning towels or microfiber towels handy, so they're ready to order when you require them. It will certainly be much less unpleasant to pass up the benefit of paper towels if you're well-stocked for the next mess.
12. A clear catch-all space. Every day life makes it difficult to have an arranged house 24/7. Documents, tricks, shoes, water containers, bags and also other numerous products tend to stack up promptly in specific locations. Avoid surface area clutter by giving each of your points a designated home. Keys, mail, phone battery chargers as well as pens ought to all have a specialized landing spot, whether it's a full-fledged, built-in command centre, the back of a cabinet or ordered area inside a wardrobe.
13. Confined garbage as well as recycling. Garbage can occupy floor space, can scent bad and also provide mayhem for family pets. Covert storage is optimum, however if you do not have that alternative, at least ensure your containers have lids. Maintaining bins and also bags with each other makes it very easy to separate waste as well as recyclables.
Cabinets can be retrofitted to house custom-made pullout containers, however if you're seeking a simple remedy, look into preferred sellers like The Container Store or Ikea for a range of containers that will work to fit your existing room.
14. Coffee station. Life is just a little bit less complicated when you have everything you need in one area. If you can discover a means to construct it in or enclose it, also better. While a full-on coffee bar isn't constantly practical, having all your cafe accoutrements-- coffee maker, mill, beans or grounds, filters, mugs, sweeteners-- in one committed area will streamline your morning regimen.
15. Personality. Whether it's enjoyable, colourful devices or a sensational item of art work, a kitchen area needs to have an inviting atmosphere that permits for convenience, leisure and great times.
Accentuate your residence's fascinating architectural details. If you have beautiful old glass-front cupboards, flaunt some vibrant bowls or perhaps some classic glass wares. I think the 'street talents' marinette is gonna pullout. Is improvising objects (LUCKY CHARMS!) and parkour lessons.
Can you imagine a kid pulling out a mens.pad just to cover a big gushing wound , Garbage can covers as shield, changing clothes like a spy in public or How to run away from baddies while jumping roof to roof like a robin.
hi hi hi i'm new here but i just got through your entire (at least i think so) accidental crime boss mari au and i love it so much!!! also my imagination went wild and here's what it came up with (this is so long, i'm so sorry 😂)
so, Jason teaching the kids street stuff, like pickpocketing and such, nobody can Ever pickpocket Mari (not that they'd try, i think, hahaha), somehow it's just not possible. you think you have her and then find out otherwise. furthermore! she'd probably actually know how to do A Lot of what Jason is teaching (look, saving Paris that many times and seeing the shit she's seen must have taught her something about street smarts, okay?), but whether she's aware of all of it or not remains... unanswered. she absolutely surprises everyone, jaws-on-the-floor style, the first time she does it, especially when she does it consciously. every time she does something unknowingly (and still in the Nicest Way Possible, how even--) Jason probably quietly gathers the kids around so that they can watch and learn in real time from an example. and also, even though she's The Responsible One between the two of them when it comes to this stuff, sometimes Mari helps the kids do something, like maybe pickpocket someone in the family, as a prank
now about the Rules!! more specifically the sword fighting and duelling etiquette rule: auntie Kagami teaches everyone who wants to learn fencing every time she visits. there are tournaments. there's probably a pocket dimension designed specifically for that. it doesn't help lessen the amount of Shenanigans happening all the time but boy does it get competitive
also also also i love the name Mother of Heroes!!!! it's so cool!!! The Brood too!!!
if you've got any, i would love to see some more headcanons with the Sirens or the other dark/darker characters of the city (i'm not that well-versed in the DC universe, so idk what to call them if they have a name, sorry)
also, we already know she's called the Pixie and that she's kinda considered a mob boss and etc., but like, what about the point of view of an outsider? the way it all came to be really must sound like something from legends or fairytales out there on the streets. something so sudden and kind, and if you look a bit closer magical and just so unexplainably other???? kids just disappearing off the streets in that area and then resurfacing again looking well fed and taken care of???? to those disillusioned enough with life it must literally sound like an urban legend or something. but she's real. if you need help you just gotta find her.
HI HI HI!!! oh my gosh all of it??? thank you so much!!
1) i think that Mari knows theoretically a lot of things about being on the streets, but not a lot practically. living on the streets has less to do with being able to fight and a lot more to do with instincts and experience and all these little tics you pick up when all you have to count on is yourself.
there are, of course, certain ‘street talents’ as i call them, like being able to pick locks and con people and having a sense for danger etc, etc.
mari knows that tangible things, because she’s bound to pick them up, obviously. the kids just don’t forget what they’ve learned, so often she sees it in action. Jason also teaches her street talents as well, sometimes on purpose, most times on accident.
there is a difference though, in how Mari uses said talents. when the kids use them, there is an edge to every movement. they use their talents like weapons, like they are shields, all bared teeth and fingers like claws. their talents come from pain and necessity and there will always be something a bit vicious about it.
Mari doesn’t have that, and never will. her talents are tools and tools only, one more to add to her vast repertoire. it’s as impersonal as it gets for her, which means its soft and sweet and used with care. her talents, even in combat or duels, are velvet over steel.
2) Oba Kagami, unfortunately, can’t visit often but when she does, oh boy is it intense. Mari and Chloe are always delighted when she and Adrien visit, but mari spends most of the trip running around and quelling fights and making sure no one loses a finger
3) thank you! i’d like to say id been planning the Mother of Heroes for a while but i came up with it mostly on the spot lol. it fits really well though and makes a lot of sense imo
i quite like it
4) hmmm. im not sure about much of that. despite being thought of as a crime boss, she stays away from the other rogues mostly. I think, if given the chance, Mari would likely adopt killer croc without question, and I think she’s on okay terms with Riddler in that they like to exchange brain teasers and the like, but other than the Sirens, mari stays away from crime.
for the sirens though, i very much like the idea that Harley basically thinks of Mari as a younger sister and is liable to just take her out on the town and leave Selina and Ivy to watch the kids while they go cause trouble for whatever group has caught Harley/Mari’s ire this time.
Ivy and Mari have a comradery in their shared love of plants and similarity in their powers. mari is more expansive and flexible than Ivy’s, but they share the same roots and the two spend lots of time gardening and keeping crops for the kids. (though, harvesting is often a chore for the older ones)
5) Mari being an urban legend is the truest thing I have heard. god, i’ve never really considered the outsiders perspective but yeah. could you imagine the stories people would whisper about the faerie living near crime alley? in the beginning, just after things start picking up and Mari has somewhere upwards of a dozen kids, I think it’d look something like this:
“People say there’s faeries living near crime alley. Magic folk settling back into the city that tried to drive them out. No one knows what they want, but they keep taking kids. The strange ones, the ones that are like them, that aren’t quite human.
“They say that they’ll help you, if only you ask. But be careful. There hasn’t been a kid to go in there and not come out different. They’re stronger, normally. And well-fed. But they also talk of strange creatures and stories no one’s ever heard of and you stop seeing them on the streets so much. (They say they live with the faeries now.)
“No one knows what the faeries want, but we know this: they help when you ask and they keep taking kids. I suppose, in the grand scheme, it depends on how much your willing to risk for some help.”
