Vireo Showdown; Bracket 3, Poll 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fun Fact!
Mangrove: despite the name, they're not actually found in mangroves through most of the range. The Pacific population prefers them, while the Caribbean population is more general.
Puerto Rican: the local name "bien-te-veo" (see-you-well) refers to the sound of their song.

Day 255
April 14, 2023
Finished a peer review from yesterday and caught up on some emergency management news:
Starting today, all text messages sent on FEMA mobile devices will be preserved and can be used for the Freedom of Information Act.
The Center for Biological Diversity and eight Puerto Rican community groups are suing FEMA due to its plans to rebuild Puerto Rico’s power grid without focusing on renewable energy.
Portions of South Florida are flooding after major rainfall. Fort Lauderdale experienced a 1-in-1000-year rainfall event, receiving over 25 inches of rain in 24 hours. (This is like getting over 1/3 of the average year’s rain in a single day.)
I finished drawing some Florida native birds to go in the thank you cards, too. I’ve been working on them all week since I can’t currently draw for long. The birds are the northern parula, northern cardinal, northern mockingbird, loggerhead shrike, blue-gray gnatcatcher, cedar waxwing, brown thrasher, Carolina chickadee, tufted titmouse, and red-eyed vireo.

I packed and watched a movie with the team after work.
