and what would a couple from a Shakespearean tragedy be without heart-wrenching lines where one mourns the other's death?

[ID copied from alt text: a black-and-white study of a photo of Puck and Oberon from The Globe’s 2013 production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Oberon wears slashed leather pants with a prominent codpiece and no shirt. He is leaning back to counterbalance the weight of Puck, whom he is hoisting into the air with one arm under the crotch. Puck braces his hands on Oberon’s chest and stares down at him with a neutral, resigned expression. The second image is the reference photo. End ID]
get hoisted, twink.

been on a shakespeare kick, again.
we watched king lear (2008) which, as i've said before, is a very good play that can only be tolerated about once a decade. (ian mckellan was divine.)
we watched much ado about nothing (the shakespeare in the park version which PBS aired). this is hands-down the single best version of my favorite play. i've seen eight? nine? versions of it by now. this was the best one. by far. it was a rare instance in which the displayed context added meaningful nuance to the play, instead of just being cellophane frippery.
i'm trying to torrent the gender-bent taming of the shrew the rsc never got to take on the road but seeds are few, alas. i'm hopeful though! still debating if a gender bend is really a good first introduction to this play or not for A; i'm leaning towards finding a traditional version and then hoping to find further discussion in the gender-bend.
right now, watching globe's midsummer night's dream from 2014. y'all know the one i mean: it's the one giffed to death here, of oberon manhandling a twinky little puck by the seat of his pants. michelle terry is magnificent.
rsc has another midsummer night's dream from 2021 featuring a piñata that i'm curious about. i generally like rsc's productions. generally. their 2013 richard ii was magnificent, elegant, and clean.
im trying to find a version of the tempest to watch; this is a rare instance in which rsc dropped the fucking ball one hundred percent. the poor girl they had playing miranda was horrible! she warbled every single thing she said! she sounded like a goat!

Name's Nemi. Anyways, I've been thinking about stuff in the Ask Greg Archives. He insists that Puck is not Oberon's kid. He also says that David and Owen haven't had sex with each other, but if David asked Owen'd put out.
Faerie service, amirite?
But it just got me thinking about Oberon/Puck, which I then started writing. But then also lol'ing over the idea that one of Titania's first actions at being remarried was to get rid of her husband's side piece.
Hi, Nemi! :)
So many interesting things you bring to the ask box! <3 I love the canon but like you I also love the non-canon, ykwim? ;)
I do enjoy the concept of Oberon/Puck, I will not lie. Oberon's response to Puck choosing Xanatos over him (even if only for a "few centuries") is soooo easy to view through the lens of a lover/keeper scorned it's unreal. And the idea of Titania orchestrating his banishment is also, to your point, very funny. What if that secret non-sequitur she said to Fox at the end of The Gathering Pt 2 was, "That's that on the side piece." And she secured her grandson a guardian and tutor to boot 😭
And by all means, feel free to share your writing if you want to. I would love to see it!
Faerie service, indeed. Many interesting (erotic) angles to work on that from, I think. I like the idea that Owen and David haven't had sex...yet. That they almost did once or twice, and then Puck did the faerie reveal and made the deal, and then David decides he needs some sort of proof that the physicality of their relationship isn't an enforcement of the lifetime agreement. Prove it to me you want me, and then you can have me etc etc etc. I think they're getting down with it by 1999. Pretty sexy 😏
I hope to hear more from you!

Quill, you already know for fic asks. 5. Is there any scene you're excited about writing? (especially for the shakespeare in the park au 👀)
Ehehe thank you for enabling me KT! <3
Ok so for Shakespeare in the park au, the basic premise is an actor AU where they're all putting on a Midsummer Night's Dream and some Much Ado About Nothing/ 12th Night shenanigans are happening outside of rehearsals/ performances. But mostly, I remembered the 2013 production of Midsummer Night's Dream from the Globe existed, specifically this scene. And like...the whole production is full of moments of Oberon just carrying Puck around, touching him for no heterosexual reason so naturally MoShang is Oberon and Puck (i will make this pining because i live for mutually pining idiots who will naturally assume this is just for the show and not because they're obsessed with each other. so it will be equal parts silly and yearning) xD Also looking forward to the chaos that will be LBH and LQG as Lysander and Demetrius and Shen bros as Helena and Hermia xD I don't have any specific ideas for that yet but if i can pull it off, it will be very entertaining i hope!
artist/ model au already has a scene i thought was amusing, but i'm kind of looking forward to one i haven't gotten to yet, which is basically mbj overhearing sqh freaking out at sy on the phone about mbj being there. this fic is an excuse for a) mutually horny pining and b) sqh to have frequent "open mouth, insert foot" moments xD i'm just rolling with whatever happens at the moment because it already grew a mind of its own and went off the rails.
On of the fairytale fics, i'm looking forward to writing a sappy, fluffy, yearning reunion scene. I have a couple lines for it written and it makes me somft rereading them. need more somft!mbj out in the world!
3rd times the charm (will probably change the title tbh, but this is what i've been calling it more or less since i had the idea) will have some scenes with MQF in it, which I'm excited about, because I like him and think it could be fun expanding/ creating relationships he has to sqh, mbj, and some of the others.

🌈🏳️‍🌈LGBTQ+ Representation in Shakespeare’s Plays (Abridged Edition) 🏳️‍🌈🌈
Remember in Shakespeare’s times all the roles were played by men
All’s Well That Ends Well: The 2013 RSC has some bromance pictures
Antony and Cleopatra: Enobarbus is clearly gay or Antony, I mean who isn’t
As You Like It: The only none confusing part of the Ganymede and Orlando scence is how gay it is. Or just read the epilogue. And maybe Rosalind and Cecilia could have a thing despite the incest
Comedy of Errors: You’re telling me there was no four way incest with all those twins
Coriolanus: Despite all the togas, the characters possess the other type of pride
Cymbeline: This play is all over the place there’s probably subtext somewhere
Edward III: This might not be Shakespeare so there’s not a lot of LGBTQ+ here
Hamlet: Umm... Hamlet and Horatio are obviously lovers, sorry Ophelia that’s why Hamlet doesn’t want you. And Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are married
Henry IV: Not that much here
Henry V: The Dauphin (change my mind)
Henry VI: I’m gay for Joan of Arc
Henry VIII: Since Anne of Cleves is not in the version, this one is pretty hetro
Julius Caesar: Let me introduce you to Brutus + Cassius, (mainly Cassius), oh Titinius and I see some tension between Julius and Mark, yes I am proposing a threesome with Julius Caesar, Mark Anothy and Cleopatra
King John: Sorry but no gays here, mostly
King Lear: Lear and Kent are in love with each other. And Edgar is probably Asexual
Love Labour’s Lost: Yeah that pact was clearly for “studying”
Macbeth: Those witches are asexual, and I Stan it
Measure For Measure: How about no for this play
The Merchant of Venice: As much as I hate these characters, Salanio and Salarino were a couple, Antonio and Basssanio is blatant subtext, and Portia is definitely not cis
The Merry Wivies of Windsor: That decoy ‘boy’ is not cis
A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Let’s see, Oberon and Puck, and basically any recent Globe production makes at least half of the characters gay
Much Ado About Nothing: Dogberry + Verges, Conrad + Borachio, Don Pedro could be asexual
Othello: Iago is in love with Othello
Pericles: Probably not
Richard II: Richard is gay, but should he be with Boilingbroke or Aumerld
Richard III: He’s Lord Farquaad, so yeah
Romeo and Juliet: Every character has been paired with each other in the fandom, but most importantly, MERCUTIO IS GAY
Taming of the Shrew: Kate is as straight as my spine (I had scoliosis)
The Tempest: Denpending on the production you can get a handful of queerness
Timon of Athens: It’s Greece and just guys being dudes
Titus Andronicus: Unfortunately this is not the one from Kimmy Schmidt
Troilus and Cressida: This is about the Trojan War so Achilles and Patrocules, who are the definition of soulmates, are in this
Twelfth Night: There’s no hetro explanation for this play
Two Gentlemen of Verona: Julia and Sylvia are giving us some lesbian moments
Two Noble Kingsmen: That sounds like a medevil gay play
The Winter’s Tale: Let’s do a four page analysis of the sexuality of the bear, no pun intended, use Arial size 12 double spaced.

Ethan M. Aldridge@EthanMAldridge I'm watching a recording of the 2013 production of A Midsummers Nights Dream at the Globe theatre, and in addition to being a great performance, has the only interpretation of Oberon and Puck i will accept from here on out.
If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumbered here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding but a dream.
