Sly & The Family Stone - Stand!
This is basically Sly & The Family Stone's greatest hits album. It has I Want To Take You Higher, Sing A Simple Song, Everyday People, and You Can Make It If You Try. All monster hits that ride that line between funk and psycjedelic incredibly well. The goofy infectiousness of Sly & crew at their best is only slightly tempered by their comically centrist politics and desire to be taken seriously with them. I dont know how to tell you this Sly but i think that Don't Call Me N****r, Whitey might be pushing a false dichotomy. I assure you that calling someone "whitey" does not carry the same weight as the N word. On a lighter note Sex Machine scratches that particular itch I have for ten plus minute funk jams. I love a lengthy jam.

The Eagles - Hotel California
Man I fucking hate this album. The title track and Life In The Fast Lane are good and the rest is boring ballads. I dont think there is any banjo on this album at all! Its all hard rock balladry and even when they touch on interesting lyrical themes I'm still bored to death by the end results. I cannot fathom how this dumpster fire is the most popular Eagles album when you could be listening to any one of their previous records.

Kanye West - Late Registration

The College Dropout established that Kanye West was as talented a rapper as he was a producer. Late Registration proved that we were just seeing the tip of the iceberg. Ye's ability to be triumphant (Touch The Sky), politically biting (Crack Music), and sincerely sweet (Hey Mama) is a delightful balancing act. He puts all of himself into every rap. The production is some of the best I have ever heard on any album period. Obviously as a producer turned rapper himself the beats are tailored perfectly to his own style. And while the samples and orchestration are everywhere its the precision synth lines that take the songs to the next level, particularly the ending of Gold Digger and the synth run in Diamonds Of The Sierra Leone. Without a doubt Late Registration is one of the best hip hop albums ever made and second best in Kanye's catalogue as far as I'm concerned.
