ABOUT LUCIANA
cw slight mention of psychological abuse
Luciana could never stop getting in trouble from an early age. She always questioned authority, and even when given a fair answer, she still didn’t like it if it wasn’t in line with how she imagined things to be. She would throw a fit, and even went as far as trying to throw a chair at her third grade teacher. The teachers were constantly complaining to Maribel that she was hard to teach and even more so, harder to have in their classes. She got moved to different classes with people who refused to talk to her, and Luciana never really understood. They had stuck her in a special education classroom because they didn’t know what to do with her otherwise. What they had found out, though, was that Luciana thrived in this setting. This made the teachers suggest to Maribel that they go out and get her a diagnosis, and it was no surprise when it came back with a double combo of autism and ADHD.
While Luciana still had a problem with authority, it had been easier to guide her when they knew how to go about it. She still had an attitude problem, and most times didn’t like people. They’d encourage Luciana to sit with students, or even go as far as to tell her to sit with them at lunch: Luciana refused, saying loudly that all the other students smelled badly and she wouldn’t go near them unless they started showering. Her grades got better, though they continued to try to work on her social skills. What they didn’t understand was she did pretty well with understanding social clues, she simply just didn’t like people. It took a long time for Luciana to find someone who understood her, and that she could handle being around for longer than five minutes. It took until high school, but at that point, she didn’t mind. People always thought she was weird – one, she was rude to anyone who would ask her anything and two, she dressed with dark eyeliner and dark make-up. They had called her “gothic”, which had annoyed her, because they clearly had no idea what the Gothic periods were like.
Once she had graduated high school, Luciana did not intend to go to college. She hated school and had enough money from her mother’s job, which meant that she could do pretty much anything she wanted in her mind. However, she had always enjoyed writing short horror stories, and she wanted to expand on that talent and learn as much as she possibly could. She decided to go to PSU simply because of that, but ended up enjoying her time there much more than she could have expected. She met a girl that she had completely fallen in love with, and it was an absolute whirlwind of a romance. Luciana had only been physical with people, so when she fell in love quickly, she didn’t know what to do with herself. It was only two months into the relationship that the two of them had moved in with one another.
Luciana was thrilled. She was writing all the time, going to school and absolutely in love with her girlfriend. After ten months of their relationship is when things started to go south. The things her girlfriend would comment on started getting worse and worse, and soon enough Luciana felt like she was constantly walking on eggshells or else there was going to be a fight. Oftentimes, her girlfriend would push her too far (purposely overstimulating her) and send Luciana into a meltdown. Afterwards, she would hold her and tell her that everything was going to be okay. Luciana had no idea how she had ended up in a relationship quite like that, and she had no idea how to leave it either. She was so in love but absolutely miserable, and one day she had come back from classes early to find her girlfriend with another man.
That was the last straw and Luciana left. She felt like her life completely unraveled at that point, and couldn’t force herself to get out of bed. The break up had completely rocked her, and she wasn’t sure what to do with herself anymore. Going to school was sending her into a complete meltdown, so after two months of battling that, she dropped out of college. She decided to get a job as a bartender at The Spare Room. People had liked personality even though she wasn’t quite sure why. She didn’t like any of them - they had all annoyed her. But with every quip she threw at them, they laughed and tipped her more. They were morons, but at least it was working for her.
And that was Luciana’s life. Work, sleep with a girl (maybe) and then home. Everyday and every night. It was easier for her and there were absolutely no attachments. Luciana worked her way up at The Spare Room, and currently works as the manager there. She still likes to work at the bar most of the time, though, and will oftentimes be found there if she’s not doing any of her managerial tasks. She throws herself into work and doesn’t really have a goal in life, but she doesn’t care. Her schedule is pretty much the same every single day and that’s what matters to her.
FAMILY BACKGROUND
A vocal dynamite herself, a teenage Maribel Lopez took the world by storm with her global hit, Femme Fatale. Projected to become the biggest musical name of her generation, Maribel could’ve gone on to have a thriving singing career, but after the success of Femme Fatale, she decided that was enough, that while she loved performing and hearing her voice on every radio station, she found the behind the scenes of producing her record much more exciting. Maribel worked hard, learned from the best, then emerged after a few years away from the spotlight as the founder of a brand new record label, Fatale Records. The success of her hit single outweighed her young age, and soon Maribel had people begging for her to sign them.
For the next little while, Maribel signed big name after big name, and proved that a woman really can have it all when she began to grow her family through various flings and short-lived relationships. No man ever quite matched her energy, and Maribel thrived as a single mother to her growing brood. Then came the age of televised talent competitions, and Maribel was approached to headline the famous panel. The million dollar prize paled in comparison to the fact that the winner would receive a record deal from Maribel Lopez herself, and soon Maribel became the face of various 'Idol’ and 'Got Talent’ shows worldwide, oftentimes taking her family to different countries to headline-host their versions of the show, too.

MARIELA LOPEZ
☆ FULL NAME: Mariela "Mari" Juliana Ines Lopez ☆ GENDER: Ciswoman ☆ PRONOUNS: She/Her ☆ AGE: 32 (November 17th, 1991) ☆ TYPE: Half sibling; solo (open to twin) ☆ HOMETOWN: Los Angeles, California ☆ JOB: Events Management Professor at PSU ☆ SCHOOL: PSU Alumni ☆ SEXUALITY: Fluid ☆ FACECLAIM: Adria Arjona
ABOUT MARIELA
A single mother to two children in her early thirties was absolutely not where Mariela Lopez ever saw herself in a million years, nor is she necessarily pleased about the fact now. Mari adores her children and couldn't imagine life without them, but given the chance of a do-over, she'd be lying if she said she wouldn't have waited at least another ten years to have them. Raised by a strong, independent single mother herself, Mari never judged her mother's choices, but would she have liked to have been married before popping out children herself? Definitely. That wasn't the hand she was dealt, though, and despite Maribel being praised for raising her children singlehandedly, Mari certainly doesn't let the same define her.
A resident of London, England, Mari's father tried to be in the picture for a little while, but perhaps because of the distance, he became less interested in parenting as the years went on, and by the time she'd reached her teens, Mari was lucky if she even received a birthday card each year. While she will, to this day, say his absence doesn't matter to her, it did secretly foster in her a sense of feeling not quite good enough, so Mari has always been very guarded with her heart and those she lets close to her. Despite a level of Lopez-inherited snark, she really will befriend almost anyone unless given reason not to, but whether she'll trust them or not is an entirely different story.
The spotlight was never really Mari's thing. She didn't hate it, but she didn't crave it—it was always something that was just there thanks to her parentage. She had no desire to pursue a career in the spotlight herself, though. Fortunately, pretty, popular and Valedictorian, Mari had her pick of prospective career paths, and decided during her sophomore year of high school that she was going to capitalize on her ability to organize, order and plan everything to a T. Having attended plenty of events throughout her life with her mother, the intricacies of event planning caught her attention, so Mari enrolled at PSU to study events management, where she thrived the same way she had in high school.
It was during her time at PSU that she met the man who would go on to become the father of her children. Both in the same field, both with a strong sexual attraction to one another despite the way they butted heads, Mari and Ezra embarked on a years' long on again-off again relationship, accidentally producing two daughters along the way. Even after the birth of their first child, now-4-year-old Lucie, the two remained very on and off, but co-parented well. When Mari fell pregnant with now-2-year-old Poppy, however, Ezra decided to pop the question. Whether it was due to pregnancy hormones or that desire for a traditional family structure, Mari said yes, though she knew deep down that she didn't love Ezra. She wasn't sure she'd ever loved him, in fact.
Both successful in their careers, they chose not to rush their engagement, and Mari continued to enjoy her job as Events Planner for her alma mater. When it came time to eventually plan the wedding, though, they were back to butting heads, the way they had in college—the way that'd stopped them from ever going into business together. There were certain things Mari wanted, but she was by no means a bridezilla. Ezra, on the other hand? Total groomzilla. That wasn't the only reason Mari left him at the altar, though... She loved him as the father of her children, but Mari still wasn't in love with him, though that was impossible to communicate to him amidst his flurry of panic and planning.
The day of their wedding, their guests waiting in their seats and Ezra at the altar, instead of joining them at the venue, Mari quit her job, took her daughters and hopped on a flight to England, where she has remained for the last three months, reuniting with distant family members from her father's side and essentially hiding from the life she left behind. Mari isn't a monster, of course; she knew she couldn't just abandon her home forever, especially with the children she shared with Ezra who truly was a wonderful father, so following a phone call from PSU, explaining their Events Management professor was a dud and begging her to take the position, Mari took it as a sign to finally go home.
Now, part-way into the semester and three months since seeing her ex-fiancé, Mari is back in Los Angeles to reunite the girls with their father, and to take up her new professor position—while facing the consequences of her actions alongside.
