Masses of fruit on the Strawberry Guava (Psidium cattleyanum) native to the Amazonian Basin in Brazil. Unfortunately it’s very attractive to Queensland Fruit Flies (Bactrocera tryoni) and also the possums, fruit bats and bush rats so the battle for the fruit is now on. I hope to make more jam and cordial from the fruit if I can get enough before the grubs, possums, fruit bats and rats get to it. I honestly thought this was going to be the red variety but either way, these cattley guavas are freakin amazing!!!! Harvested our very first fruit yesterday. So different from a guava. Not sure why it even has that name. I think this may be one of my new favorite fruits. They taste like a cousin produced from a passion fruit and strawberries marriage if that makes any sense 😬.
