In 1999, Lee sold Wildstorm to DC Comics, and ownership of all Wildstorm characters, including Grifter, transferred to DC Comics. His backstory and continuity remained the same, however, until DC's 2011 relaunch of their entire comics line, The New 52, which rebooted the continuity for most of its characters. Since then, the character has starred in his own DC series, and has also made appearances in numerous other DC titles, such as Voodoo, Legion Lost, Team 7, Animal Man and Deathstroke.

The character has been voiced by Colin O'Meara in Wild C.A.T.s, and Danny Jacobs in Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.

Fictional character biographyEdit

Team 7Edit

From a young age, Cole Cash took part in his con man father Jacob Winston "Win" Cash's various grifts, until Cole witnessed his father's apparent murder at the hands of mobster Sam Del Gracci.[6] Cole's mother went on to marry Del Gracci, who regularly beat Cole,[7] while also doting on Cole's younger brother Max.[8] As a teenager, Cole ran away from home and became the getaway driver for a crew of robbers.[9] When his fellow criminals turned violent, Cole intervened, saving the life of F.B.I. agent Joseph Brockmeyer.[10] He was apprehended, and Brockmeyer gave him the choice of either joining the clandestine agency known as International Operations or go to jail.[9] Cole joined I.O.,[10] and received training from future Team 7 teammate Marc Slayton[11] (who would eventually become the hero known as Backlash), as well as former members of I.O.'s previous covert operations team, Team 6.[10][12] At some point, Cole may have been a part of the Army's Special Forces.[13]

Cole joined Team 7, being given the codename Deadeye.[14] The group was deliberately exposed to an experimental chemical called the Gen Factor, which activated a variety of psi powers in them, but which also detrimentally affected their mental health. After the experiment the survivors were classified as Gen 12. Cole suspected that, in fact, high-ranking I.O. officers were behind the experiment, while they claimed that it was an unknown chemical weapon. Cole grew more and more disgruntled with I.O.'s manipulations and secrecy and rebelled against teammates John Lynch and Slayton, particularly after Slayton killed an innocent scientist Cole had tried to rescue during a mission in Leningrad, which Slayton had done on their I.O. superiors' orders.[15]

Most of Team 7 quit I.O. and went into hiding after they became aware that Craven was interested in using their children, the Gen¹³, who were believed to have inherited their fathers' powers, as weapons.[16]

Cole struck out on his own, eventually crossing paths with the ancient Kherubim warrior Zealot. They fell in love, and she took the unprecedented measure of teaching him, a man, the ways of the Coda, the warrior order she had once belonged to. Her Coda-teachings stabilized Cole's sanity and removed what remained of his psionic powers.[9] Cole and Zealot fought their own private war against members of the Daemonite race, as well as the Coda, Cole first taking the codename Grifter.

Wildcats and Grifter solo seriesEdit

Cole and Zealot's relationship eventually came to an end, though they remained partners. Both eventually joined the Daemonite hunting team, the WildC.A.T.s.[17][18] Cole still loved Zealot, though he was unwilling to rekindle their relationship, since he thought doing so would only bring him pain.[19] In order to stop two Daemonite lords from acquiring a spaceship which could be used to destroy or conquer Earth, the WildC.A.T.s allied themselves with Hightower, a Daemonite who had killed Grifter's friend Lonely.[20] Grifter voiced his objections and, once WildC.A.T.s founder Jacob Marlowe threatened to kick Grifter out of the team, Cole chose instead to quit on the spot.[21] During the scramble for control of the spaceship, Grifter killed Hightower, avenging Lonely.[22] The ship's self-destruct sequence was activated, however, and the other WildC.A.T.s were forced to enter it and try to defuse it. They succeeded, resulting in the ship entering warpspace, taking it and the WildC.A.T.s back to Khera, while Earth's post-human population, including Grifter, believed the team dead.[22]

While another iteration of the WildC.A.T.s was created shortly thereafter, which included Cole's brother Max, operating under the codename Condition Red,[23] Grifter opted to operate independently, eventually becoming a mercenary once again. Cole, with help from special agent Brockmeyer and I.O. officer and friend Alicia Turner, managed to get Del Gracci on tape confessing to Cole's father's murder.[6] Grifter eventually found out from Max that his father had faked his own death,[8] and confronted Winston in New Orleans. Winston revealed that he had stolen money from the Mafia, and had faked his own death to escape retaliation from the mob.[24] Win tried to manipulate Grifter into protecting him from a man he had partnered on a con with and had come to the conclusion that Win was exploiting him. Grifter realized that his father was did not love him, and was a psychopath who was trying to use him.[24] Cole then unraveled Win's latest con, threatened to kill him if he ever came to Cole's attention again and let him escape before the police arrived.[24]

The WildC.A.T.s eventually returned from Khera, and Grifter rejoined the team.[25] Cole still had feelings for Zealot, and was particularly hurt when Zealot and John Colt, who had previously been Spartan until Colt's memories and personality implanted in him resurfaced, briefly rekindled their relationship.[25] Cole and John Colt both insisted Zealot choose between them and, though she was initially unwilling to deal with the situation,[26][27] she eventually decided she needed to choose in order to preserve the team's cohesion, and initially chose Colt out of a sense of loyalty as a Kherubim,[27] eventually parting ways with him.[28] Grifter began trying to seize the reins of the WildC.A.T.s[27] and eventually became their leader[29] during a period of time in which the team gained new members, including Olympia Atreidae, and Max Cash rejoined. Max was eventually murdered by a Coda assassin, and Grifter considered killing her in revenge, though Olympia, who had developed feelings for Max,[30] murdered the assassin before the situation could come to a head.[31]

After going their separate ways for a period of time, the Wildcats were reformed, only to disband once again after Zealot's apparent death during a mission.[32] Grifter spent some time operating once more as a mercenary, before joining a new iteration of the Wildcats, formed to take down a mysterious figure with ties to the Kherubims and Daemonites called Kenyan.[33] By this point, the John Colt identity had receded[34] and Spartan's original personality had returned, and, as members of the new Wildcats team, Spartan and Grifter maintained a good working relationship, though Grifter seemed to hold some antipathy towards him.[35] Around this time, Cole attended Team 7 member Alex Fairchild's funeral with other still living members of the team, Lynch and Jackson Dane, as well as the members of Gen¹³, which includes Fairchild's daughters Caitlin Fairchild and Roxanne Spaulding.[36]

Grifter teamed-up with Backlash to help a group of animal-human hybrids called the Kindred. Tensions between the two remained high over what had occurred in Leningrad. Cole eventually came to the conclusion that Marc had changed, and opted to forgive him, and the two parted as friends.[37]

Cole went on to have an encounter with Zealot, discovering she was alive, and managed to attain some closure.[38] Spartan, now calling himself Jack Marlowe, came to an understanding with Cole, the two realizing they were like family,[38] and would continue to work together in the future.

Point Blank, Wildcats 3.0 and SleeperEdit

After Team 7 field leader John Lynch was shot in the head, leaving him in a coma, Cole investigated the attack on Lynch,[39] eventually coming to the conclusion that former WildC.A.T.S. member turned traitor Tao was involved in it.[40] Cole discovered that Tao had created an organization made up of post-human criminals,[41] and that Lynch had placed an undercover I.O. agent, Holden Carver in the organization, and vowed to help him leave the organization and clear his name.[42] Tao eventually revealed that he had manipulated and brainwashed Cole into shooting Lynch, and then promptly forgetting about it. Tao then proceeded to erase this knowledge from Cole's mind once again, leaving him unaware of his role in Lynch's attack and Carver's status as an undercover agent.[42]

During a mission for Jack Marlowe, Cole's legs were shattered by a FBI agent. Therefore, he could no longer operate as Marlowe's field agent. He trained accountant Edwin Dolby (Grifter) to take his place. Dolby turned out to be unsuitable for the violent life that Grifter planned for him and resigned from Halo. After Marlowe apologized to him, he rejoined, but strictly as an accountant. Grifter remodeled the robotic body of former teammate Ladytron as a remote-controlled body for himself.[43][volume & issue needed]

Several months later, Grifter's legs were healed, a side effect of the dormant Gen-factor according to I.O. scientists. John Lynch, who had woken from his coma, restored Cole's memory. Cole was sent to take down Tao and working together with double-agent Holden Carver, Tao's organization was completely dismantled and Tao was imprisoned.[44][volume & issue needed]

He later joined a makeshift team of former Wildcats to confront the assassin Nemesis.[45][volume & issue needed][volume & issue needed]

World's End

The Wildcats reformed after a near-extinction event nearly destroyed planet Earth. Grifter eventually left the team to join The Authority,[46] and went on to enter into a romantic relationship with Flint.[47]

In the alternate timeline of the 2011 "Flashpoint" storyline, Grifter is the leader of the United Kingdom's resistance movement against the Amazons.[48] In a flashback, Grifter assembles Team 7 to battle against Muslim extremists in the Middle East, until they were killed. Grifter was saved by Penny Black (Britannia) and escapes from the Middle East. While Grifter was recovering, the United Kingdom is invaded by the Amazons. Grifter assembles the Resistance to fight against the Amazons. In the present, Lois Lane is rescued by the Resistance from a camp just before she is converted into an Amazon. It is revealed that the Resistance were helping to find Penny's armor prototype at Westminster, as it could turn the war around. While the Resistance are headed towards Westminster, Resistance member Miss Hyde betrays them and contacts the Female Furies. She then tries to make the Resistance surrender by holding a knife to the throat of Lois.[49] However, Miss Hyde regains control of the body and fights the Amazons, allowing the Resistance to gain the upper hand. After they escape the Westminster Palace, Grifter gathers with Britannia, who has then recovered her armor and found a group of released prisoners. The two then lead the Resistance in an all-out battle against the Amazons.[50] Grifter and the Resistance arrive to attack in the Atlantean/Amazon war, and Grifter heralds their arrival by helping Batman take down Black Manta. Grifter is killed in battle by Enchantress who is then killed by Superman.[51]

The New 52Edit

With The New 52, the 2011 relaunch of all of DC Comics' series that immediately followed "Flashpoint", Grifter is established to be a former U.S. Army Special Ops soldier who deserted and became a con-artist.[52] During one of his latest cons, Cole Cash is assaulted and abducted by Daemonites, aliens who can "possess" human bodies. Cash is held for 17 days, while a Daemonite attempts to take possession of his body. For unknown reasons Cole wakens prematurely, aborting the transfer and leaving him with the ability to overhear the telepathic communication of Daemonites. He subsequently hijacks a plane and kills several Daemonites disguised as humans resulting in him being wanted for crimes and terrorism. Cash is now wanted by several intelligence agencies and his brother Max, also a military special operative, is tasked with apprehending him. Furthermore, the Daemonites also wish to retrieve Cash in order to maintain their secrecy. On the run from his many pursuers, Cash dons a costume from a costume shop in order to conceal his identity.[53]

The Wild StormEdit

Once a decorated soldier recruited by I.O. as yet another PMC in their ranks, Cole Cash had previously entered John Lynch's Thunderbook Program where he received Gen' Active implants that changed him into a post-human.[54]

He later faked his own death after making contact with Lord Emp, masking his desertion as a disastrous mission gone awry.[55] In the years that followed he came under the tutelage of Emp's fellow alien refugee, Zannah/Lucy Blaze and learned new combat techniques.[56] After the incident where Angie Spica saved his life, Jacob Marlowe, CEO of HALO Industries, commissioned Cole's services in order to find her before I.O. did.

Grifter, Kenesha/Savant and Adrianna/Void (operating as a rogue Wild C.A.T. cell) planned how to best bring Spica in, having surmised she was currently hiding at an old I.O. station at Camp Hero, Montauk.[57]

The three C.A.T.s used Void's transport method to warp themselves instantly to the safe-house. Adrianna tries to calm the visibly alarmed fugitive, while Cole urges her to come with them to a truly safe haven. But they all come under fire due to interception by an I.O Black Razor C.A.T (Covert Action Team) tasked with retrieving their wayward tech and Spica's murder. In the ensuing battle, Grifter employs steady gunplay while Spica charges up her cybernetic suit and makes a hasty retreat.[58]

Cole manages to dispatch the Razor team but finds Ms. Tereshkova downed by a piece of glass shrapnel sticking out of her temple. Scant seconds later a C.A.T troops he'd shot prepared to use his last grenade. Kenehsa removed the shrapnel piece from Void's noggin just in time for her to warp them out.[59]

Nonplussed that the mission was a failure, Kenesha and Cole bicker back and forth. Void decides to head out and find their missing charge on her own, without backup from a paramilitary group this time.[59]

Upon their return, Cole and Kenesha express their gratitude to Void. Angie is still worried about I.O. finding her especially considering they're stationed so close to their headquarters (Cole is hiding out in Brooklyn).[60] Back at home base, Cash wondered why Adrianna enjoyed reading a daily newspaper over digital news, when they received a call from John Colt. Colt was undercover within the Hightower locale belonging to I.O's invention & engineering division, but he had been compromised. He needed a quick exfiltration before I.O. security apprehended him, as his computer snooping had triggered shield protocols that blocked Void's transmatter teleportation and an impending general alarm. Cole was able to guide him to an open spot where he could jump privately before enemy agents tagged him. John revealed his intel concerned Machine Telepathy, a program in which phone apps, mobile programs or wireless appliances could read the minds of their users and transmit them to IO's servers.[61]

Angela wakes from a nap, and scans all of her new friends with her stolen tech, seeing that Mr. Colt and Kenesha are as alien as Jacob under their human skin)s. The C.A.T's speculate about the possibility that I.O. has discovered that the owner'M

Oh boy have I not watched Psi for a long time, oh man have I missed out on Some Stuff (I’ve only heard the names of like three Digimon mentioned but oh man did those names alone come with Some Package)

Let’s watch episodes 25-31 then and catch up!

So just to recap, last time Agumon evolved to Mugendramon, fucked some shit up because Taichi totally 100% legit died, temporary evolved to WarGreymon I think (I can’t remember man lmao) and beat the shit outta DoneDevimon

(This is an issue with most MotW shows and even some shounen series (I’m looking at you Bleach) so it’s not unique to Psi, p sure Adventure had this issue to some degree too, but still man, it’s a massive pet peeve and bothers me so much)

This really drives it home to me how not having a villian of somekind just constantly present and active really makes a story so much more flat for me... Like I ain’t gonna argue Devimon or MetalSeadramon were interesting villians, but even just seeing them planning their next moves outloud and talking to their minions drove home what kind of people they were, and they weren’t even the most Packed-With-Personality villians in Adventure. And while SkullKnightmon is there... they’re just kinda standing around. I don’t know much about them really and it makes me sad

INTRODUCTION.

The Hebrews now entitle all the Five Books of Moses, from the initial words, which originally were written like one continued word or verse; but the Sept. have preferred to give the titles the most memorable occurrences of each work. On this occasion, the Creation of all things out of nothing, strikes us with peculiar force. We find a refutation of all the heathenish mythology, and of the world's eternity, which Aristotle endeavoured to establish. We behold the short reign of innocence, and the origin of sin and misery, the dispersion of nations, and the providence of God watching over his chosen people, till the death of Joseph, about the year 2369 (Usher) 2399 (Sal. and Tirin) B.C. 1631. We shall witness the same care in the other Books of Scripture, and adore his wisdom and goodness in preserving to himself faithful witnesses, and a true Holy Catholic Church, in all ages, even when the greatest corruption seemed to overspread the land. This Book is so called from its treating of the Generation, that is, of the Creation and the beginning of the world. The Hebrews call it Bereshith, from the word with which it begins. It contains not only the History of the Creation of the World, but also an account of its progress during the space of 2369 years, that is, until the death of Joseph.

Commentary:

Ver. 2. Japheth. From his being placed first, some conclude that he was the eldest; and perhaps the famed Japetus of the Greeks is the same person. D. --- Sem comes last, though elder than Cham, that the history of the true Church may be more connected. Though it would be a work of great labour to discover what nations sprung from the people here mentioned, yet some are sufficiently obvious; and the learned Bochart has given very plausible applications of the different names to the respective nations, in his Phaleg. or sacred Geography. Gomer is supposed to be the father of the Cimbri in Germany, from whom the French and English also probably sprung. H. --- Magog, father of the Scythians, &c. Ezec. xxvi. Madai of the Medes, Javan of the Ionians in Greece, Thubal of the Iberians and Spaniards, Mosoch of the Muscovites, Thiras of the Thracians.

Ver. 3. Ascenez father of the Germans, Thogorma father of the Turks. M.

Ver. 5. The islands. So the Hebrews called all the remote countries, to which they went by ships to Judea, as Greece, Italy, Spain, &c. (Ch.) whether they were surrounded with water or not. Jer. xxv. 22. M.

Ver. 9. A stout hunter. Not of beasts, but of men; whom by violence and tyranny he brought under his dominion. And such he was, not only in the opinion of men, but before the Lord; that is, in his sight who cannot be deceived. Ch. --- The Sept. call him a giant; that is, a violent man. According to Josephus, he stirred up men to rebel against the Lord, maintaining that all their happiness must come from themselves, &c. Ant. i. 4. Thus he broached the first heresy after the deluge. W. --- He seems to have been the same as Bel, father of Ninus, and the author of idolatry. M.

Ver. 11. That land, of Sennaar, near the city of Babylon. Assur, or Ninus, who founded the Assyrian empire. M. --- But many understand this of Nemrod, who, in his progress from Babylonia to conquer the world, and oppress the rest of his brethren, came forth into Assyria, as if it were written Assurah; the He signifying motion towards, being often omitted in names of places. See 2 Kings, vi. 10. Bochart. There he built Ninive, on the Tigris. But the exact situation of this vast city is not even known. C. --- And the streets, &c. which were amazingly extensive. 9. Number of blankets: *The Count’’s voice* Three, three blankets for a twin bed, ha ha ha~. It’s the thin sheet that serves as a layer between the bed and the warm blanket, the previously mentioned warm blankets, and the thick one used to cover everything. Think of it as the top of a burger bun; fluffy and made to be instagrammed a lot (since I take my game pictures there XP).

10. Dream trip: Considering I somehow became the heir to Scrooge McDuck fortune or something, I guess I would visit France along two or three friends. A trip is nice and all, but having someone to share it with is what makes it really magical X3..

11. Dream job: School counselor, I would love to help the younger generations on their path to become better people and on their academic success. If not, a librarian; I may not read a lot, but my neatness would keep a library in perfect order. Sadly, both of those require a master’s degree and I can only go the distance so far... Teacher assistant shall be the next best thing I suppose, or working at a hospital ^w^.

Kingdom Hearts: Traveling through various Disney worlds, living in Daybreak town, trying to unravel the secrets of the universe, fighting heartless and more importantly, a way to be in The Grid without taking a slot on this list. Yeah, I would love to do that, please XD..

Animal Crossing: Literally a tiny paradise, filled with friendly animals and plenty of things to do. Sometimes I still pop the game open just to take a virtual coffee and see the ocean. It really feels like a break from reality, and to live in such a serene world would be a bliss <3.

Any Tales world: A place where magic exists, the world seems ever expanding, and everything ain’t as black and white as in other video games. Sometimes we are forced to fight, sometimes the bad guys have good intentions, but we can always count on the good times, the jokes, looking awesome and drama, drama galore XD.

Nu Kappa Tau - Milkshake

You get drunk and cry over your love for Doyoung, Doyoung tries to save his own ass after an argument, and you want five milkshakes. Your relationship in a nutshell, really.

I wasn’t going to post this because it’s technically an “end credits” scene i suppose for a different fic, but, an anon wanted some doyoung because they were stressed and this is something i could post so. i hope it makes you feel a little better lil anonnie <3

It’s late. You’re pretty sure it had to be almost 3 am if the groups of people walking down the street were anything to go by.

You’re not sure when you ended up in a car, nor when you had even left the party at Psi Epsilon. The last thing you remembered was Johnny passing you a shot and then DK asking if you and Doyoung broke up. You’re pretty sure you had cried, but, that could’ve been any girl. (Who were you kidding you know it was you).

You’re not even sure who the driver was, because you’ve yet to look at anything else besides out the open window. The breeze felt far too good for you to move away, plus it was sobering you up which is exactly what you needed. The driver knew what you liked.

Whoever the driver even was. The person had access to your car though, because you’re not sure anyone else had a broken mirror with a rubber band wrapped around the part that connected the mirror to the car. And who had that piece of glass missing from the broken part of the mirror. No one but you.

Which it meant it was either Doyoung or Ten, and since Ten had been at the party getting drunk with you, that meant it was Doyoung.

You guessed that was why there was a hand on the back of your neck, Doyoung’s thumb busy tracing circles against your skin. That gesture was always something he did when you drove together, whether he was in the driver’s seat or you were. It calmed him down mostly, having a hand on you, and you never minded.

Until now, because you and Doyoung were kind of fighting and him having his hands on you meant that he had apologized and you had forgiven him, which you absolutely did not. If he had apologized when you inevitably fell asleep an hour ago or something, then he was going to be hit. He always tried saying important things when you were too out of it to really know what he was talking about.

You give up your life of looking out the window and enjoying the cool breeze, turning your head to look at Doyoung. His hand immediately falls away from your neck and finds a place on the steering wheel, not welcome near you until he had been forgiven.

“Hey, sleepyhead. You hungry?” Doyoung asks. You don’t like that tone of his, sweet and asking for silent forgiveness. He wasn't getting that from you.

“Why? You planning on buying for me? Oh! Is this supposed to be a date?” Doyoung must know you’re mocking him because he sighs and doesn’t reply to your remark.

You stare at him as he drives, silence settling between you. You’re not as drunk as you were before, you’re sure, the nap you had fell into helping you out a little bit. Instead of being overly emotional you were just feeling kind of bitter, but you’re pretty sure if Doyoung did anything or you talked about your fight you'd probably start crying, so you couldn’t count emotional you out of this yet.

Two streets down from the one you’re on (which you figure out is not the frat block, which makes you think Doyoung has just been driving around until you woke up, which means he totally owed you gas money that fucker) is Food Street, so lovingly named because of all the restaurants and convenience stores that lined it. It wasn't actually called Food Street, but no one really bothered to remember the name when Food Street was so nice to hear.

Doyoung passes all the closed shops, and like the beacon at the end of the road, pulls into the 24 hour diner (and not the McDonald’s, thank fuck). He parks the car and shuts it off, unbuckling himself and you. You both open your doors at the same time, making you mumble under your breath about being in sync even when you were fighting.

Doyoung, even to your protests, helps you make your way into the restaurant. A gentlemen as always, really.

He helps you sit down and even orders your drink for you when the waitress comes over, and you grumble but sip quietly at your soda anyways.

“What do you want? Burger? Just fries?” Doyoung asks. You glance at the menu, immediately seeing the milkshake adorning the front of it. A smile spreads across your face and you look up at Doyoung.

“I want five milkshakes.” His eyes narrow at you.

“I’m not buying you five milkshakes.”

“Then I’ll buy myself five milkshakes.”

“I’m not gonna let you buy yourself five milkshakes.”

You cross your arms and sit back, pouting. “Why not?”

“You’re going to get halfway through your first milkshake and then feel sick. I’m not going to waste my money because half-drunk you wants to be bitter towards me.”

“Half-drunk me is bitter towards you for a reason, you know.”

Doyoung looks away from you and back down towards his menu.

“I know.”

Joy, your waitress and the only girl in Sigma Mu Epsilon willing to still talk to you after you got kicked out comes over to ask if you're ready to order. Instead of ordering five milkshakes and wasting Doyoung's money (as much as you want to) you just order a plate of fries that you can munch on. Doyoung orders an actual meal, because Doyoung's appetite could match Jaehyun's, even at three in the morning.

"...my parents asked if they could meet you the other day," Doyoung suddenly says. You glance up from your drink and frown at him.

"Are you seriously talking about your parents right now?" You ask. Doyoung opens his mouth to talk again, but, he must realize that his topic of choice was kind of stupid to talk about right now because he closes it a moment later and goes to sip at his own drink.

This was stupid. This entire situation was stupid. You wanted to go back home and just curl up in your bed and sleep. You didn't want to be here with Doyoung, especially if he wasn't going to apologize or talk about shit with you.

You sit back in the booth again and stare at your now empty drink, debating whether or not you could walk home as you were. You were still somewhat drunk, maybe even at this point just buzzed, so it would be possible.

If not, you'd just end up at one of the frat houses. It wouldn't be such a big deal.

"I don't know what you want me to do," Doyoung speaks up. His words break you out of your thoughts and you look up at him once more. "You always encourage me to go for things. So why is it any different now?"

You roll your eyes at your boyfriend. Of course he didn't understand. "Overworking yourself so bad that you pass out the second you walk into my place isn't the same thing as encouraging you to do things, Doyoung.

"I never said be president of three different clubs plus the president of the frat plus have a part-time job plus study for what, eight classes? You don't need a part-time job when your school is paid for by scholarships. You don't need to be part of clubs when you hate each of them but one. You don't need to take eight classes just because you feel like taking three extra classes- you're gonna kill yourself from fucking exhaustion, Doyoung!"

"You can't die from exhaustion, Y/N-

"Are you seriously backtalking me right now?" Doyoung shuts up again, and, just like you, sits back in his seat with his arms crossed. You sigh looking at him.

You know he's not purposefully trying to overwork himself. You know he's just trying to keep himself preoccupied because it was Doyoung and if he was bored, he needed to find a way to stop his boredom.

That didn't mean he had to work himself to death though. He was only president for two of three clubs because people asked him to be, and he took the extra classes because he thought they'd be interesting, and the whole part-time job thing he never told you why he took it, but you know he probably didn't need that either. He wasn't short on money by any means, so you're not sure what he was doing.

It was too much, even for him.

"Doyoung, when you came over that day you scared the living shit out of me because you just… Fell over and didn’t get up for so long. And then right after you got sick- I just don't want you overworking yourself like that. Everyone at the frat is worried about you. And I'm worried about you. Just... think about quitting some shit. Please."

Doyoung is silent across from you, refusing to look at you. At least it was better than him yelling back at you or you stomping out of the frat house.

The silence continues even when Joy brings over your food, and when she picks up your empty plates. It continues on for the car ride back to the frat, your walk up the stairs to Doyoung's room, and as you sit next to each other on the couch in his room.

Your head is resting on his shoulder, and his hands are playing with your fingers, gently and of course, in silence.

Silence was never really a thing between you two unless Doyoung was thinking really hard about something, so usually you just left him to it. And, when you were fighting you usually didn't let him touch you, but at this point, you were tired and he was a good pillow. Who were you to complain?

"You still like me, right?" Doyoung mumbles out randomly when you're practically on the verge of sleep. You move your hand to entwine with his, smiling.

"Of course I still like you. I love you, loser. Just... don't love you overworking yourself."

Once more, silence settles between you. You're drifting off to sleep again, the warmth from Doyoung and the comfort of his hand in yours and the quietness of his room makes it so easy, especially when you haven't been hanging around each other for a couple days. Being with Doyoung after a while always managed to comfort and relax you.

And, when you're nearly in dreamland, you hear him speak again. You're too far gone to reply, but, you swear it sounded a lot like an apology.

Typical Doyoung, always apologizing when you were practically asleep.

You wake up to someone humming in your ear, their hand stroking up and down your arm to probably soothe you to sleep. You don’t remember getting there, but you’re not sure you minded much, because whoever was holding you was very comfy and warm.

You’re guessing it was Doyoung anyways, considering you probably wouldn’t let anyone hold you so intimately in a car. Was this your car? It was probably your car.

The more you wake up, the more you start thinking about the situation, kind of curious as to why Doyoung had your car. Last you knew it was sitting parked out front of the Psi Epsilon house, and your keys were somewhere with Wonwoo who was far more responsible than drunk you. But at some point Doyoung got your keys, got you into your car, and drove you someplace. You wondered when all this happened.

Maybe you fell asleep on him back at the house.

So many questions, so little answers, truly.

“Are you awake?” Doyoung asks. You nod your head and end up shifting your body so you could look at him. “Just making sure. I asked you two times before that but you were just mumbling in your sleep.”

“What was I mumbling about?”

“…It was embarrassing. Do you really want to hear?” Doyoung asks. You shake your head. You could live without knowing what sleepy you might have said. “Okay.”

“When did you get my car anyways?” You ask. “When did you even come to the frat party? I thought you were studying.”

Doyoung shrugs. “Studying can wait. I came up to pick up my drunk girlfriend and spend the rest of the night with her.”

You try to hide your smile, but it’s really hard. Doyoung making time for you, especially when he was still so busy (not as busy as before, thankfully), makes you happier than anything else ever could.

“You’re a dork,” you mumble, burying your face back into the crook of his neck. Doyoung chuckles, mumbling something about how he’s your dork. He’s right, but it doesn’t make it any less cheesy.

You two fall into a comfortable silence, Doyoung continuing to hum under his breath while you listen. These kinds of things were your favorite things with Doyoung. Things like this made up for all the times you had been stressing over whether he was going to kill himself over school, and your own problems, and everything in between.

Because in this moment, it was just you and Doyoung, with no worries in the world and only each other to focus on.

It was what made you happy.

“Hey.” You hum out a sleepy, quiet reply for Doyoung to let you know you were listening. He laughs a little, and then speaks.

“You wanna go get a milkshake?”

“…Are you going to buy me five?” You ask.

Doyoung pauses, and then sighs. “…two.”

“Three and I’ll throw in five kisses.”

“Two, and make it twenty kisses.”

“…deal.”

Dredd's first stories take place in the year 2099, 122 years after its publication date in 1977. His regular stories are generally set 122 years after their real-world publication date unless otherwise stated as a flashback or prequel story.

The setting of Judge Dredd is a dystopian future Earth damaged by a series of international conflicts; much of the planet has become radioactive wasteland, and so populations have aggregated in enormous conurbations known as 'mega-cities'.[25] The story is centred on the megalopolis of Mega-City One, on the east coast of North America. Within Mega-City One, extensive automation (including intelligent robots) has rendered the majority of the population unemployed.[26] As a consequence, the general population is prone to embracing any fashion or craze they encounter.[27] Mega-City One is surrounded by the inhospitable "Cursed Earth".[28] Much of the remaining world's geography is somewhat vague, although other mega-cities are visited in the strip.

Mega-City One's population lives in gigantic towers known as City Blocks, each holding some 50,000 people.[29] Each is named after some historical person or TV character, usually for comic effect. For example, Joe Dredd used to live in the Rowdy Yates Block – Rowdy Yates was a character in the American TV cowboy drama Rawhide, played by a young Clint Eastwood. Eastwood would later play the lead in Dirty Harry – one of the thematic influences by which Judge Dredd was inspired. A number of stories feature rivalries between different blocks,[30] on many occasions breaking into full-scale gun battles between them[31] (such as in the story "Block Mania").[32] The story Origins revealed that Mega-City One was formed by urban sprawl rather than deliberate design, and by 2051 it was recognised as the world's first mega-city. The Judges' powers reflect the difficulty of maintaining order. Mega-City One extends from Boston to Charlotte; but extended into Florida before the Apocalypse War laid waste to the southern sectors.[33] At its height, the city contained a population of about 800 million; after the Apocalypse War, it was halved to 400 million. Following Chaos Day in 2134, the city was reduced to 50 million. However, immigration quickly increased the population to 72 million by 2137.[34]

There are four other major population centres in Dredd's Northern America: the first is Texas City, including several of the southern former United States and based on Wild West manners.[35] South of the city is Mex-City. Far north is Uranium City. Canada, now called Canadia, remains a nation with scattered communities. Mega-City Two once existed on the West Coast, but was destroyed in 2114 during the world war known as Judgement Day.[36] Nuclear deserts and destruction elsewhere in the world are also extensive: much of the North Atlantic is severely polluted, and is now known as the "Black Atlantic".[37] An underwater settlement known as Atlantis exists in the Atlantic, half-way along a tunnel from Mega-City One to Brit-Cit (England).[38]

Nuclear desert also stretches across western Europe. The British Isles are Brit-Cit, Cal-Hab (Scotland), and Murphyville in Ireland.[39] The continent has Euro-City (eastern France and part of Germany), Ciudad España (eastern Spain), the Ruhr and Berlin Conurbs in Germany, Vatican City, and a scattering of other city-states. Russia's East-Meg One was destroyed by Dredd at the climax of the Apocalypse War in 2104.[40] Further east is East-Meg Two,[41] which has other territories under the "Sov Block" banner. Mongolia, lacking a Mega-City or Judge system, has called itself the Mongolian Free State and criminals have flocked there for a safe haven; East-Meg Two performed vicious clearances there in 2125.[citation needed]

Compared to North America and Europe, South America is shown to be in much better condition. Large fertile farmlands still exist and feed many cities worldwide, as do jungles and a variety of wild life. The main population centres are the highly corrupt cities of Ciudad Barranquilla in Argentina and Pan-Andes Conurb in the Andes on the Bolivian and Peruvian borders. Formerly two other cities existed, South-Am City and Brasilia, both of which were annihilated on Judgement Day.

In Asia, separated from East-Meg Two by an extensive nuclear desert, are Sino-City One (destroyed during Judgement Day) and Sino-City Two in eastern China, with Hong Tong built in the remains of Hong Kong. Hondo City lies on the remains of the islands of Japan.[42] Nu-Delhi (previously Indo-Cit and Delhi-City) is in southern India. Surrounding Sino-City 2 is the Radlands of Ji, a nuclear desert containing outlaw gangs and martial arts schools.[43] In the Pacific, cities survive in southeastern Australia or "Oz" (the Sydney-Melbourne Conurbation), the Solomon Islands (Solomon City), Tonga (Friendly City), and the New Pacific City; New Zealand is said to exist as well. All of Indonesia's islands are now linked by a network of mutant coral called "The Web", described as a lawless hotbed of crime, although a city called Djakarta did exist there at one point but was lost on Judgement Day.

The Middle East is without many major cities, being either nuclear or natural deserts, and only the mega-city of Luxor, Egypt has survived; the Mediterranean coast is heavily damaged by mutagens. In Africa much of the south is nuclear desert and a 'Great African Dustbowl' has formed in the northwest; but a large number of nation states have survived, whereof Simba City (Gabon), New Jerusalem (Ethiopia), Zambian Metropolitan, and Dar es Salaam are the largest cities. Nuclear fallout and pollution appear to have missed Antarctica and the Arctic, allowing one mega-city (Antarctic City) to be constructed there.

The high levels of pollution have created instances of mutation in humans and animals. The mega-cities largely operate on a system of genetic apartheid, making expulsion from the cities the worst punishment possible.[44] Mega-City One ended apartheid in the 2130s, but encourages mutants to move to Cursed Earth townships instead of remaining in the city.

Earth's moon has been colonised, with a series of large domes forming Luna City;[45] another colony, Puerto Luminae, exists but is lawless.[citation needed] In addition, many deep space colonies have been established. Some are loyal to various mega-cities, while many are independent states, and others still face violent insurgencies to gain independence. The multi-national Space Corps battles both insurgencies and external alien threats. The newly discovered planet 'Hestia' (which orbits the Sun at 90 degrees to Earth's orbit) has a colony; there are some references to colonies on Mars; Saturn's moon Titan has a judicial penal colony;[46] and Mega-City One is known to have deep space missile silos on Pluto.[47]

The paranormal is both common and often openly visible and so is accepted by both civilians and Judges. Ghosts, demons, ancient gods and two different creatures both claiming to be Satan have appeared in Mega-City One, with the Grand Hall itself known to be haunted by a disgraced former Chief Judge. Magic is real and has been practiced by some criminals. Psi-Divisions worldwide tend to be the main defence against such threats.

The Judge systemEdit

Street Judges act as police, judge, jury, and executioner. Capital punishment in Mega-City One is rarely used,[48] though deaths while resisting arrest are commonplace. Numerous writers have used the Judge System to satirize contemporary politics.

Judges, once appointed, can be broadly characterised as "Street Judges" (who patrol the city), and administrative, or office-based Judges. Dredd was once offered the job of Chief Judge; but refused it.[49] The incorruptibility of the Judges is supposedly maintained by the Special Judicial Squad (SJS), although SJS Judges have themselves broken the law on occasion, most notably SJS head Judge Cal who killed the Chief Judge and usurped his office for himself.[50] The Judge System has spread world-wide, with various super-cities possessing similar methods of law enforcement. As such this political model has become the most common form of government on Earth, with only a few small areas practicing civilian rule. There is an international "Judicial Charter" which countries and city states join upon instituting a Judge System.[51]

Rebuild Your C4 Corvette Rack-and-Pinion Steering

There’s nothing more magical than settling into the driver’s seat of your Corvette to hit the open road. One of the finest feelings you get to experience is the way it holds the street and carves through the turns with its low-slung dynamics operating at an optimum level.

What happens though when the miles start piling up from all the driving and the steering starts to feel like it’s not as crisp as the factory’s original specifications? When the performance you expect starts to deteriorate there’s one way to recapture its original precision. Recently, we made a trip to Saginaw, Michigan, to stop by Turn One High Performance Steering Systems to see just how they breathe life back into a tired C4 Corvette rack-and-pinion while infusing their years of experience into its rebuild.

To give you little bit of background on Turn One let’s start with company founder Jeff Roethlisberger who spent 14 years working at Saginaw Steering Gear, GM’s steering division, as a ride and handling engineer till starting Turn One in 1997. For years, Turn One has been building steering systems for many highly recognized NASCAR teams, earning 28 championships to date with teams utilizing their exclusive products. During our visit we followed along during the complete rebuild and restoration of a 1990 Corvette (C4) power rack-and-pinion unit. Since the units are no longer produced your only choices are to source a used one and hope its better than the one you have or rebuild the one you have. The talented technicians at Turn One have over 60 years of combined experience in rebuilding services for C4 and later Corvette racks. Following the images in the story will give you a great in-depth view of just what it takes to bring your rack back to better than factory specs.

There are a number of comprehensive rebuilding services available from Turn One, including ones for your rack-and-pinion, power steering box and power steering pumps. Regardless if your needs encompass bringing your parts back to full restoration specifications or modified for high-performance applications they have you covered. 1. Here is a newly arrived 1990 C4 power rack-and-pinion unit that’s ready for a full rebuild by the team at Turn One to return it to better than new condition.

2. Once the unit has been disassembled all of the parts will be thoroughly cleaned and closely inspected for normal wear and tear to determine which internal parts will need replacing during the rebuild.

3. The bare rack-and-pinion housing is then secured in a vise, blown clean to remove any final debris and prepared for reassembly.

4. One of the first internal parts needing replacement was the well-worn plastic pinion bushing (left) with a new bushing (right).

5. The new plastic pinion bushing was then carefully installed into the housing.

6. A special tool is then used to install the new pinion seal to the housing.

7. A press is then used to complete the installation of the new pinion seal.

8. The new pinion bearing was packed with grease top prepare it for placement in the housing. To the left you can see the special installation tool.

9. Using a press, the pinion bearing was installed into the housing.

10. The snap ring was then installed to keep the pinion bearing in place.

11. The rack shaft was placed into a lathe to first be reviewed for straightness where it was spun and checked for perfect runout.

12. It was then spun again to polish it. This step ensures a perfect inner seal.

13. The shaft teeth are then treated to a well-balanced coating of grease. A new inner rack seal was then coated with grease and installed.

14. From there, the rack shaft is carefully installed into the housing.

15. The housing was then secured in a press and a special tool was used to install the new seal.

16. A new bulkhead seal and O-ring were then installed to the bulkhead.

17. The new bulkhead seal and O-ring were then treated to a healthy coating of grease using a brush.

18. The bulkhead is then installed into the housing.

19. Once the bulkhead was eased into final position, a snap ring was then used to hold the unit in place.

20. At this time, the rack shaft was centered in the housing. This may vary with individual units and our measurements were 1.825 inches per side.

21. The valve and pinion assembly was then installed into the lathe to be polished. It then received a final inspection prior to installation.

22. A coating of grease was applied to the gear end of the valve and pinion assembly to prepare it for the install. A special assembly tube was then used to allow smooth entry for the Teflon rings to the inner housing.

23. After hand seating the valve gear to mesh together with the rack teeth, the bearing was installed to the input shaft followed by a new spool shaft seal and dust seal.

24. Everything was then tapped into place using a press tool with face and a rubber mallet. To keep everything secure, a snap ring was the installed.

25. The valve and pinion assembly was then final torqued to manufacturer specifications.

26. Here you can see the adjuster lock nut, spring adjuster and rack bushing as they await reinstallation. The adjuster allows the unit to be set to the factory specifications preload.

27. With the inner housing well greased, the rack bushing and spring are first set in place followed by the lock nut.

28. Using a torque wrench, the adjuster was set to manufacturer’s specifications and then set to the factory preload using a pair of specially designed wrenches.

29. The hydraulic lines were then reinstalled onto the rack.

30. The completed rack-and-pinion was then hooked up to Turn One’s exclusive Steering Box Analysis System to check its performance under load. Here you can see that the rack performed at its ultimate level for the left and right valve pressure effort’s perfect balance.

31. This closeup lets you see the actual lock-to-lock pressure readings of 1,450 psi under full load rotation where the internal leakage percentage is perfect, at under 0.3 gallons-per-minute (GPM).

32. Here you can see a Turn One team member at the controls of the dyno putting the recently restored C4 rack-and-pinion through its paces at full operating temperature.

33. To complete the assembly, the final steps include the installation of the tie-rod ends and a fresh set of rubber boots with clamps.

34. The completed rack-and-pinion unit is now ready to bring your C4 Corvette’s steering system back to perfect balance thanks to the team at Turn One.
