#'you don't win no silver/you only lose the gold'#been thinking abt these two a lot lately. especially on account of mbappe's latest (fond!) reminiscences abt their time together at psg #i do think they have a lot of parallels which are very funny to me personally #both won everything there is to win at a very young age (pessi with barça and mbappe with france)#except for that one (1) trophy that keeps eluding them (wc for messi ucl for mbappe)#also both stuck in shit clubs (which they have to carry + are accused of being the 'dictators' of) (lol) making disastrous career choices #not to mention they both have their parents as their agent (which is. well)#and now they've both lost in a wc final !#their dynamic is very interesting to me and i WISH the environment at psg would've allowed for messi to stay longer #like. not to be delusional and read too much into things #but i do think it's very dramatic that messi's first goal for psg was assisted by mbappe #what i'm saying is destiny was cooking smth with these two. but evidently psg administration and the ultras had other ideas sigh

what's so cringy about this whole "discussion" of "lucky" penalty shootouts is that you have people with their entire chest saying stuff like real madrid "didn't do anything the whole game" and didn't "deserve" to win, when defensive football IS very much also football. the last time i checked football teams had both offensive and defensive players? like. i'm begging you to open a book on tactics and discover this very new, innovative concept. why didn't man city score in regular time then if they were so impressive and if madrid "didn't do" anything? boo fucking hoo. why are you even crying over petrodollars in the first place?

i am soooooo tired of pepball stans (and kloppball for that matter) lording their high press, attacking styles over anything else, when they routinely clown themselves in the CL and then literally cry sour grapes. might sound groundbreaking, but "i don't like defensive football" is not a unit of analysis? it's not any less valid bc it doesn't cater to your specific preferences.

the truth of the matter is that rma were tactically flexible enough to play two different styles of football over the course of these two legs and, not only does that require skill and discipline, but the approach paid off, so deriding it as the "wrong" way to play football is downright divorced from reality. which one of these teams is in the semifinals again?

not to mention that even involving yourself in a situation where you have to defend a sportswashing team with 115 breaches of financial fair play rules is just beyond. i get that you don't like rma but please compose yourself and acquire a modicum of common sense. you don't have to appropriate the most preposterous aspects of male-driven culture that impose you should absolutely support whoever is playing against your rival no matter what.

#and yes i absolutely wanted barcelona to win over psg and will be cheering on dortmund against them even tho i don't support those two teams #who's going to stop me? please understand how arbitrary these rules are #knocking teams like mci and psg out of the competition is more important than petty rivalries #real madrid
