the whole point of meffy is that i just wanted to make a character who would be a good friend to jake.

so i had to figure out their species. human could work, but thats fucking boring. i thought he definitely deserved a real troll friend, but i felt that a regular troll who grew up in alternian society wouldnt fit the niche i wanted this character to. cherub was a viable option, but whats the point in making a homestuck oc if its not a troll? so i made a compromise. troll cherub ecto baby

i chose gamz and caliborn becsuse uhhh i like them. there are other lore reasons i jusr cant remember them right now

fun fact. gamz is a rage aspect and caliborn is a time aspect. the One aspect directly in between these two on that hive swap aspect wheel is HEART. which is meffys aspect. i think heart complements jake very well and fits the role of someone who was Made just to be a friend to someoen. thus a selfless class (passive) would be most fitting! i chose the passive creation class, sylph, because i think his purpose as i have created him most aligns with the idea of creating bonds and/or identity, for the sake of others [jake]. isnt that something.

1970 Plymouth GTX main floor replacement

There were a number of reasons why vintage muscle cars were stashed away back in their day. A big one was the early ‘70s gas crisis. They just got too expensive to keep fuel in them. That coupled with insurance rates for them rising like our medical premiums are today and they just became too costly to drive every day.

Another was the unfortunate fact that especially in states with real winters; they rusted out in seven to ten years. Also parts were hard to get as there was no aftermarket supplying sheet metal back then.

Others realized that someday they would be valuable again so they locked them up planning to restore them someday which more often than not never came.

But this 1970 GTX has a different story. It was in an accident. While fortunately no one was seriously hurt, the car became undriveable and difficult to repair because of the just mentioned parts issues so it was put away waiting for the owner to “get around to it”.

Well, not surprisingly, that day didn’t come and the car was passed on to the owner’s son who eventually brought it to Muscle Car Restorations in Chippewa Falls, WI.

While the car had some serious damage there was good news on two fronts. First, parts are now available thanks to companies like Auto Metal Direct that is MCR’s go to source especially for Mopar sheet metal. Second, since the car had been stored in a dry location, it suffered from much less rust damage than would normally be seen with cars of this vintage.

In fact much of the repairs to this car do not involve rust issues at all but rather “simple” collision repair. Of course one of the first issues to deal with is to be sure that the car is pulled back into square by a competent frame shop. Once that is done, the individual parts can be dealt with.

Most of the time, floors are a given for rust repair but, in this case, the floor isn’t being replaced because of rust but rather because during the accident, the torsion bars pushed back hard enough on the torsion bar cross member to wrinkle the floor.

Back in the day, the floor repair might have ended with the frame shop work as that would have gotten the car back on the road but that’s not good enough today. Since AMD makes an excellent one-piece floor panel there is no reason for MCR not to take advantage of it and return this GTX back to like new again.

Before MCR starts removing the floor, they mark out where the various mounts and brackets are attached to it. Things like cross members, some of the seat mounts, seat belt mounts, and emergency cable mounts all need to be transferred to the new floor so it’s important that they not be damaged while the floor is being removed.

Reciprocating saws are great for removing the center sections of the floor but the perimeter spot welds will need to be drilled to break them free.

To make it easier to get to the firewall to floor spot welds, the floor is cut just short of the fire wall seam. When the floor is removed, it will be fairly easy to drill out these welds.

A 3/8th-inch Blair Rotabroach cutter is used to separate the floor from the rocker panels, cross members and the rear main floor panel.

This seat mount bracket was damaged in the accident. MCR can replace it faster than trying to fix it.

Removing it is as simple as using the Blair cutter to drill out the spot welds.

The exact location of the original bracket is carefully noted so that the new one will go back in the correct spot. The best way to attach parts in these types of locations is to plug weld them so holes are drilled to facilitate the welds.

One-sided spot welding could be used to attach this bracket but MCR much prefers plug welding as it is more secure and the welds are totally concealed under the floor anyway.

A 3M Belt File is used to remove the various brackets spot welded to the bottom of the floor. The welds are always broken from the floor side to protect the original look of the bracket.

There is always some left over rust hidden between the brackets and the floor that will need to be cleaned off. This one is the e-brake cable mount.

Once removed and cleaned up, this seat belt mount is first clamped place and then spot welded to the floor.

Before the floor is set in place, MCR will punch holes around it’s perimeter to facilitate welding to the rockers and rear floor panel.

Locating the floor panel back in the car is as straightforward as it gets. The rockers locate it side to side while the front edge is positioned by the firewall.

MCR’s ProSpot spot welder can reach very deep into the car so most of the original spot welds along the cross member can be replaced.
