I love seeing portrayals of complex family bonds, especially mother - kids in fiction. Whether that's complex good or complex bad, whether it's a family who are divided against each other or who are loyal to each other above all else. I love seeing it in a wholesome, nurturing way, where they stick together through thick and thin, or reconcile their differences, or have a moment so touching it moves me to tears.

And yet, I have no problem sullying a beautiful and sweet dynamic like that in fanfiction, and putting them through absolutely gross and sicknasty sexual mishaps. That's the thing about being proship, and being able to distinguish fiction from reality (and fanworks from source material). The wholesome and the revolting can and do coexist and are enjoyed in their own ways.

It's like quantum physics (not that I know how that works). The same place at the same time, in different states.

Dr Jakurai/Kaibyakumon... the other Jakurai ships I've seen (RamuJaku, HitoJaku, DoJaku etc) are fine, but I feel they don't really speak to me. Either I prefer shipping the other guy with somebody else or I'm just not excited by the dynamic. This one, though, fascinates me. [Hypmic s2 spoilers again]

I feel like doctor/patient ships are seen as problematic due to the uneven power dynamic, but Kaibyakumon is demonstrably more powerful than Jakurai, and all the other main division leaders. Put together. So even if he's putting his care in the good doctor's hands, I think he's still not exactly vulnerable.

Also, the fact that they've both lost young men who were effectively their sons is a tragic but intriguing angle. I'm not saying they'd bond over it, that seems like an inappropriate word choice, but they can see things from each other's perspective, surely. Perhaps more than any others in the main cast.

Losing my mind over this because it's Buster Bros if you swap the ages around. Jiro and Saburo are at each other's throats the whole time but super protective of each other, and both hugely look up to big bro Ichiro, but like. In a purely fraternal way, not with the weird tension they have between each other ♡

Concept: a family with three brothers, the older two are a bit closer in age to each other and have this complicated codependent incestuous hate-love relationship going on, they are either bitterly fighting or deeply in love at any given time; any chance they get they either beat the shit out of each other or make out passionately

But that is strictly between those two: they treat their little brother completely normal and see him as nothing but a sometimes annoying younger sibling; absolutely nothing romantic or homoerotic going on between them and him

Meanwhile the younger brother is deeply and desperately in unrequited love with them, pining his fucking heart out (and probably catches them at some point together and then has to pretend nothing is wrong while the jealousy is eating him up)
