A town called Prose is home to || Cailan Williams || who is a || thirty one || year old, || cis man ||. They work as || veterinarian || and live in || Drew Drive||. in Prose, they’re known as the || Sean Teale || lookalike. || he/him || They were confused and startled by the recent news.
tw death, tw accident
Cailan known as Cal was born and raised in Florida. Having a love for the beach, the sun and spending so much of his life outdoors. Growing up, he was always a confident and outgoing young man. He knew what he wanted out of life. He was talkative, adventurous, and could never sit still for long. He has a good sense of humour and enjoys making others laugh. From a young age, he was always climbing things, playing baseball and other sports, teaching himself instruments and building things with his own hands. He liked to be on the go, and he liked to be busy and that has never really changed into his adult life.
As a child like many others at that age, Cailan thought he was invincible. Throughout elementary school, he liked to push boundaries and he was often getting himself in trouble, even when he didn't mean to. Though overall, he was a kindhearted and empathetic child despite his playful and reckless ways. He had plenty of friends and showed he was a loyal and good young person. Cailan is also very smart and excelled when it came to his school work, with a real strength for maths and science. His parents knew he needed to be kept busy during his childhood and gave him plenty of opportunities, whether that be sports, drama club and even going on hiking trails.
His parents loved him, despite the many times they were called into school for him pulling a prank or telling a teacher they had the wrong answer. He was close to his dad, and enjoyed working on cars with him and playing sports together. He also learned to cook with his mom and grandmother.
Though his life took a turn for the worst at just fifteen years old when a tragic accident happened. Cailan and his friend went climbing without safety gear and got into some trouble at the top of the cliff. When the rock crumbled, the boys fell. Cailan managed to hold on, but his best friend fell and all Cailan could do was watch. That memory has stayed with him into his adult life and Cailan still feels guilty, blaming himself for what happened.
For a while, Cailan let his rebellious side take over, messing about and getting himself into trouble throughout high school. The loss of his best friend had hit him hard and the young man acting out. Though in his last year of high school, finding a hurt dog out on a run knocked some sense into him and ended up showing Cailan where he wanted his life to be. He took the dog home, made sure he got medical help and looked after him. Eventually adopting the dog as his own. He knew from that moment, he wanted to be a vet, he had always loved science and had empathy for those around him. And he began working hard in school again and securing a place at Cornell University for veterinary science when he was eighteen.
Throughout the rest of high school he became closer to his family and they managed to keep him on track. He made a new group of friends and had a teenage girlfriend. He was a regular teen, despite the moments alone where the loss of his friend still hurt him more than he would ever admit to anyone. He enjoyed moving away for college. He liked the independence and meeting new people. Despite the partying and the messing about, he excelled and put everything into his studies.
Cailan works hard and he gives life his all. He's a jokester and friendly to everyone he meets though he's never really let anyone too close. He’s afraid of losing people, afraid of them seeing his vulnerabilities. The job in Prose was not one he was looking for, but everything seemed to fall into place. When the small town in New Hampshire was looking for a replacement for the retiring old owner, it felt like the perfect opportunity and it soon felt like home. He liked the small community and he enjoyed people's animals who he saw regularly.
He is now thirty one and a pretty good veterinary doctor. He has worked in the small town hospital for a couple of years now. He’s in a settled place and is genuinely happy with where his life is at. He knows he is an attractive man, he likes to flirt, he likes to make people laugh but he keeps himself out of trouble most of the time. He enjoys going out on his bike, he goes camping with his friends quite often and he likes to keep fit. He still likes to be on the go, always running, boxing and messing around with a football. Though he has his quiet moments just watching a sad movie when no one is around. He’s a dog lover and it is something that keeps him company after his long working days. He’s a friendly, happy guy, that despite everything, tries to see the best in the world.

A town called Prose is home to || Piper Whitley || who is a || twenty seven || year old, || cis woman ||. They work as || an English teacher at the local high school || and live in || The Lakehouses ||. in Prose, they’re known as the || Brittany O’Grady || lookalike. || she/her || They were shocked and appalled by the recent news, because they were || Whitley’s estranged daughter from his first marriage.
Piper affectionately known as Pip by the close people in her life is the second oldest sibling of the Whitley family. Piper was born in Prose and and grew up with the expectations and drama that came with being the daughter of Professor Whitley. However, Piper is close to her mother, who’s side of the family own an Inn and her father was the renowned Professor known for his writing and teaching at the local university. Though as much as Piper didn’t always see eye to eye with her father, she had a has always had a love for reading and writing. She has always had a creative side and loved both reading and telling stories, a trait Piper has gained from Whitley.
Piper was determined and full of life from a young age. She is confident, bubbly and she has always been creative. She would sit in the garden or around her family’s inn and read for hours, and scribble down ideas in her notebook that never left her side. Something that has followed her into her adulthood, she is always writing down words and phrases that pop into her head. When she was younger, writing gave her an escape from her home life. From the pressures she often felt about getting straight A’s in school, to the arguments between her parents which she pretended not to hear.
Piper was born from her father’s second marriage, which even to his death was one of his longest relationships. Her half brother James is from Whitley’s brief first marriage and is 8 years older than Piper. James lived with them throughout her childhood. Piper was close to James growing up, he was older and she depended on him a lot. She missed him when he moved away but she respected his decision, and Piper later followed in his footsteps when she also left for college. She was upset when her dad cheated on her mom but part of her wasn’t surprised, it was like another story in his life. She distanced herself from him in her teens, often having disagreements and moved into the inn with her mom.
Although she is pretty introverted by nature, she has always been bright and a little playful. Piper enjoyed school, even if she hated to admit it. But she thrived in the private schools that her dad sent her to. She loved the opportunities they gave her. She was artistic, passionate and smart. She won art competitions and writing competitions, tool part in school performances and applying for university was something she knew she wanted. The young woman was excited to explore the adult world and her talents. Her strong education and extracurriculars secured her an ivy place and moved to study English and creative writing at Yale. Although her dad had initially wanted her to stay at his university, he was not going to stop his daughter from that opportunity.
Piper fully embraced university life. Although she’d always been a little reserved, the new city brought her out of her shell. New experiences and friends encouraged her to become more confident and she found herself editing for the college paper, singing at karaoke nights, trying new foods and drinks, and falling in love for the first time. She’s a kind and dorky young woman and she makes the most of everything that she does in her life.
After university, Piper had no intention of moving back home, she spent some time working for a paper as an intern while studying her postgrad degree at Yale. She found she enjoyed tutoring and eventually went on to do her teaching qualification. Though with the news of her father’s death last year, Piper knew she needed to return home. They’d had a lot of disagreements but he was her father. And even with all his flaws, his sudden death was a shock to her. With her degrees and experience, she secured a role as head of English and arts at the local high school. She is now 27 and she is trying her best to live her life in Prose once again, and she still wonders if her dad’s death is a story.

A town called Prose is home to || Harriet Sterling || who is a || thirty || year old, || cis woman ||. They work as || a nurse || and live in || Drew Drive ||. in Prose, they’re known as the || Tahirah Sharif || lookalike. || she/her || They were shocked and appalled by the recent news, because they were || having an affair with Whitley and her two year old son is his.
Harriet, affectionately known as Harry, has always been a hardworking and determined young woman. Growing up, she enjoyed being surrounded by the greenery and the natural beauty of her parents’ picturesque home in Prose. Their large home had its own land and she spent her childhood riding bikes and climbing trees with her older brother. She was always full of life and as she grew, she’d spend hours with her sketchbook in the woods or helping her mom in the kitchen.
Her family were close, they all enjoyed their simple but fulfilling life in Prose. Her mom grew a lot of her own food and ran a small bakery. Her older brother is from her father’s first marriage, however, he lived primarily with them and Harry considers him to be her best friend. She grew up with her parents and older brother until she was 12 years old when she sadly lost their mother in a car accident. She’s never really talked about it to anyone but it has made her determined to have such a close relationship with her own son.
After losing his wife, her dad worked a lot, but he was a good father and looking after each other quickly became the norm for her and her brother. Despite losing her mom so young, she tried to make the most of her life in Prose. She embraced high school, she had friends and joined the art club. She was happy and she tried to make the most of every day. She had her brother she was close to, her father who supported and loved them unconditionally and she often found herself naturally cooking and looking after the two men. She enjoyed school, she was artistic, smart and had plenty of friends. She thrived into her teens, winning art competitions, meeting her first boyfriend and working part time at a local bakery. She even spent the summer before college working at a summer camp.
Harriet had always loved helping people, it was in her nature. She had a soft but firm temperament, she was caring and a bit of a perfectionist. She has always been a strong, energetic, sweet and very persistent woman. Naturally smart and a love for maths and science, she knew she wanted to go to university and she wanted to push herself. Being bold and many doors open to her due to her strong education, she moved to New York when she was eighteen, studying nursing at university.
Harriet loved learning and she enjoyed university, she was kind and driven and found herself a group of friends. It was a big change from her life back in Prose but she loved it. She excelled in her placements and when a job came up in the local medical centre back home, she knew it was meant to be.
After a couple of years of working, Harriet decided she wanted to further her education and become an advanced nurse practitioner. It was there at the university she met Professor Whitley. The older man was charming, he had a way with words and he made her feel special. After a couple of relationships that had gone nowhere, it was nice to be treated well. Even if Harriet knew it was wrong, she enjoyed the secret and the rush of meeting up with him. Though getting pregnant was never meant to be a part of her brief affair.
Harriet has never told anyone that Whitley is the father of her child. Not even Whitley himself. His recent death last year was a shock and just a year after the birth of her son. Part of her regrets not telling him about the baby and she couldn’t tell anyone that she was mourning the late professor. She’s very protective of her child and she’s very wary about letting people into his life. However, she’s still that strong, bubbly, and determined woman and she refuses to let anything drag her down.
Harriet has worked as nurse practitioner in the small town for a couple of years now and she enjoys her work. She loves her home and she wants her son to grow up in the same way she did, enjoying the nature and fresh air surrounding Prose. She’s just always slightly on edge that someone will find out her secrets.
Wanted Connections:
Older half brother (35ish)

A town called Prose is home to || Alexander ‘Alex’ Ellis || who is a || twenty seven || year old, || trans man ||. They work as || a Manager and owner at Galaxy Comics and is an artist || and live in || Grand Heights ||. in Prose, they’re known as the || Elliot Fletcher || lookalike. || he/him || They were shocked and appalled by the recent news, because they were || an ex student and feels betrayed by the book.
About: Alexander, known by most as Alex was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. He is the youngest of two children and is incredibly close to his older sibling who has always stood by him. His parents were modestly wealthy and his childhood was happy, busy and full, even if Alex had his own struggles. He was loved and encouraged throughout his life, whether that be in school or with his hobbies. He has always been creative and smart. He was never a child who enjoyed riding a bike or climbing trees but he could always be found drawing or using his dad’s old camera. He loved comic books and superheroes and would spend his time writing and illustrating his own stories. Whenever he was feeling upset and angry at the world, or even if he was having a good day, he would write comics that portrayed how he was feeling. He called it his picture diaries, which he still uses in his adult life.
Shortly after his seventeenth birthday, Alex came out as trans and his parents helped him to start his transition. Two years later, Alex was already a lot more confident in his own skin and happy to be Alex. He needed a change from Boston and enrolled in Prose University in New Hampshire. It wasn’t too far from home, he could drive back to his family but it was enough for the next chapter of his life. He took part in many groups at college, writing, art and support groups for people like himself. He shared his love for his comics and had aspirations of becoming a counsellor to help transgender youths like himself.
Although he can be quiet in nature, Alex is kind, protective, playful and even a little rebellious. He enjoys being with his friends and family and likes to think he has a pretty good sense of humour. He continued to grow and find Alex throughout university. He found his style, he enjoys wearing leather jackets, getting tattoos and even riding a motorcycle. Though really he is gentle and would describe himself as a teddy bear. He’s sensitive, sweet and really cares about those in his life. He continued to work on his comics and he won art competitions for his stories and drawings.
College gave him many opportunities to explore his talents. He studied art and creative writing at college and put his focus into his comics. He is a talented artist and often does illustrations and graphics for extra money. He spent a lot of time with Professor Whitley at college who encouraged his writing and graphic novels. He had a lot of respect for him and his work and Whitley’s novel made him feel betrayed and let down. Almost like the man had been mocking him.
With his degree and art talents, Alex got a job as the manager at the local comic bookstore in Prose which he’d worked at during college. He is now 27 and is comfortable in who he is. He recently received some family money and bought the comic store. He enjoys his work, family is important to him and he is excited to see where life takes him next. Following the news of the BA Whitley’s death, Alex was shocked, he’d come to dislike the man but it was still a strange feeling knowing someone who had died. Though Alex has written some comics about his dislike for the professor he wouldn’t want anyone to see.

Born in Portsmouth to immigrant parents, Fida grew up in a place a little louder then Prose. She’s from a large family and has a brother and a sister. Her parents were loving and encouraged her to go to college to find her own passion.
Fida moved to Prose for college when she was eighteen and was one of those students who just never seemed to leave. She didn’t go to college intending to love writing, but after a class with Professor Whitley she knew it was what she was going to end up doing for the rest of her life. Just after college she was offered an internship for the local paper and worked there for a few years before setting out on her own dream of writing for herself.
Fida created her own blog where she’d write book reviews and content that pleased her. It wasn’t long until her own side blog based on Conspiracy theories was born, followed by a popular podcast with her friend and cohost.
Fida is flirty and fun, but a massive dork at heart. She loves literature and telling stories. While working on her novel she spends most of her time blogging, making youtube videos or making her podcast based on conspiracy theories.

A town called Prose is home to || Vivian Zhou || who is a || Thirty-four|| year old, || Cis-Woman ||. They work as || Professor of History || and live in || The lakehouses ||. in Prose, they’re known as the || Phillipa Soo || lookalike. || She/her || They were confused and startled by the recent news .
Born in Prose, Vivian was always very serious. She was independent and as an only child, there was a lot of pressure on her. It was always assumed she'd become an academic like both of her parents who travelled the world with their books and presentations. Vivian was okay with this plan. It was the world she knew and the world she loved. She loved the vibrancy of theories, new ideas and the excitement of travel. She also loved coming back to Prose and spending weeks at home with her parents.
But when she started high school everything changed, her mother decided to take a career break so that Vivian could be more stable for high school. After all, she needed the best GPA she could get to get into college. Everything was going to plan... and then she met James. James and Vivian were together for four passionate years that resulted in their daughter: Maya. But once Maya was born the cracks began to show almost instantly. Vivian had spent nearly her whole childhood travelling and being pulled in and out of school. She wanted her daughter to have a settled childhood and to be near her grandparents. This was something James made very clear that he never wanted. Although Vivian knew that he had issues with his family, she had no idea how strong those feelings were. James told Vivian that she would have to return to Prose without him, if that was her decision. So she packed her bags, strapped her daughter into the car and never returned. Truth be told, she always thought James would give in and come running after them. Vivian and James have stayed in contact for the sake of their daughter, although the relationships have become and more strained as the years have gone on.
Returning to Prose, Vivian enrolled in grad school and completed her masters and her PhD. With her parents name, Vivian easily secured a job at Prose University and Maya has had a settled childhood in Prose. Vivian has a whole life, with friends and her parents nearby. It's something she would never compromise.

A town called Prose is home to || Asher Brooke || who is a || thirty-one || year old, || Cis-man ||. They work as || works in family brewery || and live in || Bennet Cabins ||. in Prose, they’re known as the || Ray Nicholson || lookalike. || He/Him || They were shocked and appalled by the recent news, because they were || Neighbours while he was growing up toBA Whitley || kit, 27, she/her,
Biography:
Born in Prose, Asher's parents died when he was young. Although he never knew his birth parents and was adopted by the Brooke's when he was small. The Brooke's had been together since they were young, were from money and had realised late in their marriage that they were unable to have their own children. As a result, they adopted three children. Asher was the youngest of these three.
Asher's parents had made their money owning a family run Brewery at the top of Prose. The Brewery made good deals with the town, serving the best beers exclusively at town events and festivals. The Brooke Beer became a staple of local events.
As the youngest child of wealthy parents, Asher grew up self entitled and a little spoilt. In school, he was the typical jock asshole and dated more then a few cheerleaders just to feed further into the stereotype. But things changed for Asher after high school. Asher's parents split with a messy divorce, something that seemed to be mirrored in their next door neighbour's new hit novel.
After the divorce and finding out about the infidelity in his parents marriage; Asher finally struck out on his own and wanted to maintain his own finances. Although staying working in the Brewery, with his father. Asher moved out of the family home and rents one of the Bennet Cabins. It's humble and has definitely made him more modest then he once was.

almost exclusively referred to by first and last name at all times by everyone
dominic rest's protégé who has come to prose solely to pick up where his mentor left off
more elusive about his life than he really has any right to be, not even really on purpose – this man is a storyteller and will sacrifice the truth for something more interesting

talkative to a detrimental extent – give him ten minutes of your time and he will take three hours. nine out of ten times people will regret engaging in conversation with him
a people person (derogatory)
he hasn't actually directed anything of note – mostly projects that are just barely not student films, and none of them are similar in tone (is furious he didn't think to direct something like skinamarink first, claims it was his idea that was stolen from him – it was not)

AGE: 33
SEXUALITY: Bisexual
OCCUPATION: Mortician/ musician
HOMETOWN: Ellsworth, New Hampshire
NEIGHBORHOOD: grand heights
TL;DR: (trigger warnings - death mention)
grew up in tiny, tiny ellsworth (population - 93) where her parents ran an bed and breakfast. as a result, she grew up knowing everything about everyone, and everyone knowing everything about her. that seemed particularly unfair to cam growing up, especially because she didn't know who she was yet.
she was close with her parents – primarily because they kept her that way. she grew up in a strict household, and her greatest form of escape (and rebellion) was media. books, shows, movies, whatever she could get her hands on without her folks finding out. (that's where she first encountered ba whitley's work, and following his career kind of in passing/ kind of not)
cam was never going to stay in ellsworth – though she didn't tell her parents until she received her acceptance letter to prose county. they had expected her to take over the now failing bed and breakfast, especially as they got older. after an entire summer of long fights and unconvincing arguments, cam left.
she loved prose. for the first time, she felt at home. she was the first to sign up in whitley's classes. always the first to arrive, first to answer questions. she thought, for a while, she might follow in his footsteps and write. he mentored her, for a while. but cam was starting to believe she was developing real feelings for him, and she started to put real distance between them because of it. she changed her major, putting herself as far from the arts as she could.
it was an internship to complete a class credit that led her to mortuary work – a job she didn't love, but she was good at. she accepted that. (though her parents were the first to call and say that was a job she could, and should, do in ellsworth).
she even almost started to love it until ba whitley crossed her table.
loves music. plays bass in whatever band will have her, even if they all seem to break up and dear god are there a lot of bass players kicking around.
kind of falls in love with everyone a little bit all the time??

A town called Prose is home to || Felipe Diaz || who is a || Thirty || year old, || Cis Man ||. They work as || A Bartender and Owner of Rosen’s Bar (and have a History PHD) ||. in Prose, they’re known as the || Tommy Martinez || lookalike. || He/him || they knew Professor Whitley because they were || Being blackmailed for his writing.
Felipe known as Lip by friends and family, is a funny, confident and charming young man. His parents are from Venezuela, though he grew up in Prose. His family moved to England when Felipe was a baby and he considers himself to be a Prose local. His dad is a business man and Felipe never really bothered to understand what he does for a living, though he knew they had a comfortable lifestyle and he was content during his childhood. Felipe knew that his dad wanted him to follow in his footsteps one day. But from a young age, Lip knew that life was not for him. It often made him sad, that his dad had very little interest in finding out about Lip and what he wanted to do, all he cared about was working and his own business.
Lip has always been a little rough around the edges but that has always been part of his charm. As a child, he always seemed to attract attention whether that be good or bad and Felipe could always talk his way out of trouble. Which often happened throughout school. He had a group of friends and he was known for the parties, the risk taking, having fun and seemingly getting what he wanted. Charm was the Diaz gift. At least that’s what his dad would say. Despite appearances and often portraying himself as the class clown and appearing to be trouble on the surface, Lip actually did well in school. Felipe is naturally smart and finished high school with good enough grades to move away for university and as a teenager he felt a rush to start his own life.
Despite his dad wanting him to go into finance or law, Lip applied for history at university. This small amount of independence was good for him, for the first time in his life, Lip felt like he could fully be himself. He moved in with a friend who he’d had an on and off relationship with and he studied history and language. Being at university and around people like him was the change he’d needed, no pretending, no trying to live up to his dad’s expectations. He experimented with clothes, hairstyles and he had never felt so free.
Throughout university, Felipe continued to grow and find himself, to make new friends and everything in his life felt good. He slept with men and women, he worked in a bar and his passion for history and writing grew. When he turned 21, Lip inherited money from his family and he wanted to do something for himself. Felipe graduated with honours and took the next step of studying a masters. It was exciting and for the first time in his life, really making his own decisions. Lip continued to study history, eventually gaining a doctorate and taking a place as a history lecturer in London, moving himself away from Prose for the first time.
Though Lip’s life changed drastically when his mom got sick earlier this year and Felipe gave up his job and moved his life back to Prose. He is an educated young man and he’d never intended on buying a bar. Though when the elderly owner was selling the bar he’d worked in during high school, it all seemed to fall into place. He bought Rosen’s Bar and Lip found himself enjoying working behind the bar once again. He’d always been a natural bartender, good at making the drinks and pretty good at listening to people and he enjoyed the busy and loud atmosphere. He made a classy but easy pub vibe, with nice lighting, furniture and good food.
Felipe is a caring and affectionate young guy, he enjoys being around people and he is always there for his friends. Lip usually comes across as a happy person and not many people know that the charming and bright bartender has a doctorate in history.

Fida has dated on and off but has never had a long-term relationship.
Following the news of the BA Whitley’s death, Fida was in shock but not so in shock that she didn’t capitalise on it immediately. Fida compared his death to his infamous murder mystery novels and began writing about the death on her blog and discussing it on a regular section of her podcast.

Khloe has moved around Prose and grew up on the Ashwood Estate, before moving to Coverdale Farms to live with her grandparents. The Bellflower bakery once belonged to Khloe's maternal grandmother and took on the Bakery when she retired in 2016. As a business owner, Khloe cares a lot about Prose and the local economy and has been attending business school at night.
Khloe has had a colourful love life but has never believed she's met the one. At this point, she doesn't really believe that there is one. Khloe was engaged a few years back and left the groom at the altar. Something her parents haven't let go to this day.

Erin was born and raised in London, her life could be intense with boarding school and at times quite lonely but she had a close relationship with her mother when she was home and she spent a lot of time with her during the holidays. At summer, they’d often spend times with her grandparents in the countryside. She loved the freedom of the outdoors, so different from her boundaries at school. Though most of all she loved baking and cooking with her mum and grandmother. Her father was a wealthy and strict man who worked a lot, at times travelling for work. Though he had a soft spot for his only daughter.
She has always been a strong, energetic, sweet and a very persistent woman. Naturally smart and a love for maths and science, she knew she wanted to go to university and she wanted to push herself. Being bold and many doors open to her due to her education, she moved to California when she was eighteen, taking a place at Stanford university studying mathematics.
Erin loved learning and she enjoyed university, she was smart, kind, driven and found herself a group of friends. It was a big change from her life back in England, she was living with girl friends and not living up to anyone’s expectations but her own. She met her ex-husband when she was just 20 years old. Just two years later they were married and when she graduated from Stanford, he acted supportive of her career and pursuing her masters but only if she moved to London with him for his work.
Erin had grown up in England and she agreed to move with her husband, applying for her masters at University in London. Although she fell pregnant with her eldest daughter Ruth she was a smart young woman and her research went well for her in London, she worked hard and secured a place doing her PhD. She loved her work and soon started teaching maths. In her early thirties, she had her second child, their son Lucas. Her life was good. She loved her children and being a mum and she was happy with her career teaching and researching, though the one thing she didn’t have was a loving marriage. Things were up and down for most of their marriage. Her husband Caleb was a lawyer and she never saw a lot of him, although she had everything she could want, she wasn’t completely happy. She wanted to be treated with respect, she wanted someone to love her deeply and passionately, she wanted to feel excited about life that way again.
Their marriage became more and more distant and Erin was sure he was cheating with his receptionist. When she called him out, he didn’t argue, he didn’t fight for her and Erin knew she deserved more. They divorced two years years ago after fifteen years of marriage and Erin decided to figure out life on her own. She’d moved to London for him and despite enjoying her job, she decided to move her children to Prose, a new house and making a new start for them all. Her son is now 7 years old and her daughter 18 years old. Erin took a job at the local Prose school as assistant head teacher, it was closer to home, she could be there more for her children. Despite what people think, she runs the maths department and she makes a pretty decent money. She enjoys life outside of the city and is happy living for herself.
