So I saw something about how it's been a year since 0/FMD was cancelled, 9/11 for annoying people, and boy do I have to get off my chest what a torment nexus it was to see the ragequit fuckup bitter burnouts we never invited shilling Baby's First Certified LGBT Genre™ Series as "proof" Supernatural's proven censorship didn't happen, queerbaiting™ is over forever don't you know creatives have ultimate freedom to pitch whatever they want and just choose not to, only to Pikachu face at its throwaway cancellation and throw it away themselves quicker than they started. Fetch did not, in fact, happen. I never learned what the fuck Jesse was talking about. Just that in a year a real fandom community like Supernatural's spent its money on ill-fated attempts to save democracy like the billionaire oligarchs weren't about to buy out America anyway no matter how many record-breaking fundraisers from The People, or on other worthy causes like the Amazon Rainforest, these consumerbrains put all their seemingly endless funds (from all those blackjack and hookers?) toward eyesore ads to "save" a show already pronounced dead (and don't let "competing causes" like fucking Palestine "distract", Kim there's people that are dying). Our Flag Means neoliberalism. After all that hot air I've just gotta say:
So you agree, corporations interfere with the telling of queer stories? ineverthoughtleopardswouldeatMYface.tweet
And, Yes But Actually No - studios/networks don't cancel shows for being gay. They cancel gay shows because they care more about their (perceived) bottom line than representation, and if the Licensing Fees are too high ain't no amount of But It's Showstopping Spectacular Never Been Done Before talk will sway them. So I repeat So You Agree, corporations care so much about their precious profits over rep that they shut down the radical queering of a legacy show like SPN and gutted the finale into a marketing vehicle for Walker whose conservative demo they wouldn't dare to defy with totally different actors' queer Official Couple? Blaming the creatives who fought against just that (and only "lost" if you value the heteronormative lens over the queer lens they validated but you seldom use) is some stupid bullshit?
It's apathy, not malice. That's what the paranoid narcissists who project ill will on the most visible targets (even/especially if it's punching down on The Little Guy the workers) to fuel their persecution complex, and blame anyone but themselves for their unattainable goalpost-shifting expectations, will never understand: discrimination is in the denials of opportunities in the first place, in constraints on what creatives can even expect to pitch and whose voices get to be heard. The reality it's truly The Man not the smaller man under him may seem insurmountable, and more importantly less satisfying than keyboard-warrioring burning down The World Out To Get You™ (when it's *checks notes* the ones actually fighting for rep), but my god is the truth of it all so much kinder.
And maybe this microcosmic look into industry horrors you could've instead learned about so they're no longer beyond your comprehension can teach you something about the real life fights against corporate rule, or at least inasmuch as you've personally victimized me, how to stop being mean girls.

I wholeheartedly think I’d be a happier and more mentally sound individual if I had not shipped Destiel when I was 13
#this is a joke but i also think its 100% true#like genuinely#it melted a part of my brain ill never get back and it destroyed any sense of trust and loyalty to media#which tbh you probably shouldnt trust media in a broad sense#but it would be nice to watch a tv show and not question my sanity bc im noticing themes and tropes onscreen that are obvious#everytime i think two characters who arent straight might have subtext the destiel 30-minute proof youtube videos come back to me#and i become a 13 year old girl overly invested in proving that the thing that is obviously happening... is happening#and like mentally gearing up to get laughed at or called stupid by producers and writers whod rather suck conservative cock#than participate in good storytelling#maybe if id never watched spn things could have been different#and maybe i wouldnt be so angry#and constantly setting myself up for disappointment and queerbaiting and mockery#and once again this is a joke !!! a silly little joke!! and im not actually as mad or dramatic as i sound#but that being said i do think destiel killed some sort of innocence in me#some sort of naive idea that opportunity should be explored and potential should be realized#good chemistry should be developed and themes and tropes shouldnt be used in vain#but what it taught me was that it doesnt matter how interesting a storyline could be#the potential a certain relationship could have#the depths it could explore#in a society where economic interest is prioritized above all else we will never have organic storytelling#and the loyalty of the storymaker will forever follow the money rather than the story itself#resulting in shows like spn sucking conservative cock rather than commit to their obviously developing romantic plotline
