Telling Ghost Stories

“You really think that’s scary?”

Leon rolls his eyes and flaps his hand at you, “Okay then, princess. Tell me a really scary one.”

You grin, tucking your feet under his thighs. You’ve both sprawled out onto the couch in the living room, each seated with your backs against the arm rests facing each other. The tv plays out the ending credits to a horror movie in the background. His feet bracket your hips and he reaches down to grab your feet to place them into his lap. 

“C’mon,” he grins, “or are you all talk?”

You wiggle your sock covered toes and he squeezes your insoles.

“Alright, alright. I have one and it’s a real ghost story.”

He scoffs but doesn’t say anything, letting you have your turn. 

“Okay, so my friend and I were hanging out at her place and we decided to go down into her basement cause she swears it’s haunted.”

Leon softly massages your feet as you gesture animatedly with your hands. 

“So then we get down there and it’s just like any old basement, y’know? But we turn the lights off to use our phones to find a place to sit in the middle of the room.”

“Wait, is this that friend—“

“Shhh,” you wiggle your feet til he clasps them tightly in his broad hands, “I didn’t interrupt you.”

He chuckles, “Alright then, go ahead.”

“Okay, so we get all settled in and invoke the spirits,” you flutter your fingers, “and for a while nothing happens.”

You pause for dramatic effect but Leon snorts under his breath making you pout. 

“Well, we sort of just sit there chatting and then we hear some kinda noise off in the corner. We just ignore it as some house noise but it happens again, only closer.”

You scoot forward, dropping your voice a bit lower. 

“So we stop talking and my friend opens the audio recording app on her phone and we sit still again, but nothing happens. She locks her phone and we get up to head back upstairs feeling a little on edge.”

Leon’s hands have stalled, just holding your feet as he listens more closely to you. 

“We get back up to her room and she sees it’s still recording so stops it and we listen to it,” you’re whispering now, “and there was a voice.”

Leon rolls his eyes, “I’m sure there was, princess.”

You smirk, “There was and I have it.”

“No you don’t,” he scoffs.

Grabbing your phone from the floor, you quickly go through your messages and pull up the audio bite your friend sent you. 

“Here ya go,” you hand off the phone to Leon who holds it up to his ear. 

A soft whispery voice plays through your speakers and Leon glances at the screen before handing it back. 

“So?”

“So what? How do I know that’s not you or your friend?”

You pout and press your foot into his thigh, “Because why would I lie? I’m being serious, Leon. She won’t even go back into the basement anymore.”

He shrugs, grabbing your thighs and pulling you into his lap, “Alright, not saying I think it’s real but I don’t think you’d lie.”

You grin and kiss his cheek, “Thank you for that backwards compliment.”

“Still not any scarier than my story,” he teases, hands gripping your waist. 

“Yours was so lame!” you place your hands on his shoulders and squeeze, “I wasn’t even scared.”

“Oh yeah?” he grins, “I can keep going. One of’em is bound to scare you enough that you’ll end up sleeping in my bed.”

You laugh, “Okay, I’m down for that.”

He hums and rocks up against you making you sigh.

“Or we could just head up to my room now,” he kisses your neck, “have some fun of a different kind.”

“As much as I love scary stories, I definitely vote for that one.”

You gasp in surprise when Leon swings his legs off the couch and stands up, lifting you over his shoulder.  

“Leon!” You laugh and he smacks your ass making you whine. 

“Faster this way, don’t wanna waste any time,” he tosses back to you, carrying you up the stairs and into his room.

Promptober/Monstober 2023 Day 20: Ghoul Weed.

Content Warning: Body Horror, Disease. Two interrelated creatures and a disease for Shadowdark RPG.

A little backstory on this entry. I saw this rather disturbing video on YouTube video recently about a guy who caught a flesh eating virus from coming in contact with a plant. Sorry, not linking this one. That, by itself, sounds like a call to the SCP Foundation to me, but alas local law enforcement tracked the plant down and safely disposed of it. However, it did inspire today’s Shadowdark RPG…
