Has the competition for ranking in the domestic entertainment industry reached the Magnolia Awards?

His first official engagement with Loewe will be to attend the brand’s spring 2025 men’s fashion show in Paris on Saturday.

British actor Jonathan Bailey became a hot commodity after the smash success of Netflix romance drama Bridgerton, the early 19th-century Regency-era series that catapulted him and his fellow cast members from obscurity into household names when it debuted in 2020.

While most people know him as his character Lord Anthony, aka Viscount Bridgerton, it’s his role in American drama series Fellow Travelers that cemented his status as a bona fide leading man and truly revealed his acting chops.

Bailey’s searing portrayal of a gay activist alongside Matt Bomer in the Showtime series has won Bailey a Critics’ Choice Award and plenty of accolades, from the LGBTQ+ community – Bailey is openly gay – and beyond.

Spanning almost five decades, from the Lavender Scare and McCarthyism of the 50s to the heartbreaking Aids crisis of the 80s, shown through the lives of two male lovers, the mini series is a beautiful love story as well as a remarkable history lesson. (The Lavender Scare was a mass dismissal of homosexuals from government institutions that paralleled the anti-communist campaign of senator Joseph McCarthy.)

Bailey, who is getting ready to embark on the promotional tour of Bridgerton season three, which debuts in May and June in two parts, was recently in Shanghai for the opening of “Crafted World”, an exhibition held by Spanish luxury label Loewe to showcase its history and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of creative director Jonathan Anderson, a fellow Brit and friend of Bailey’s.

On the night of the opening event, after Anderson gave Bailey a tour of the exhibition, we managed to grab the actor for a very quick chat.

Clad in a striped nautical jumper paired with army green trousers and paint-splattered shoes, all from Loewe, Bailey was extremely friendly and excited to share this moment with Anderson and the Loewe family.

Tell me about this trip to China.

It’s my first time here and I’m really upset to leave so soon. I managed to tour Shanghai today and you can just feel inspired being in the city.

What did you like the most about the exhibition?

Jonathan [Anderson]’s eye for collaboration is just next level. I’ve known him for a while and going back to see all his outfits in one room is like a montage of the last 10 years. My first Loewe show was in 2022, and I think his humble approach to understanding craft and collaboration, as well as what it really means to make something with your hands in a very fundamental way, is something that he stays true to. This adds a very special, celebratory and nourishing quality within Loewe as a brand.

Finally, how did it feel to work on a project like Fellow Travelers?

It’s something I’ll be eternally proud of. It’s such an important story; I learned so much. You sort of feel guilty and ashamed that you don’t know about that history. Then you remember that it’s been left out of the history books and, if you can through your work, you can shine a light on stories that haven’t been told and mean so much to so many people.

So-called health expert Dr. Peter Hotez has called Biden regime, the United Nations and NATO to deploy security forces against “anti-vaxxers” in the United States.

Vaccine promoter Dr. Peter Hotez made headlines last year for refusing to debate author, activist, presidential candidate, and attorney Robert Kennedy, Jr. on the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines.

Rather than accept the challenge, Hotez lashed out at both Robert Kennedy Jr. and Joe Rogan, who invited the two to debate the facts on his show.

Hotez refused and smeared Robert Kennedy, Jr. instead. Hotez actually said, “Science is not something that is typically debated.”  What a fraud.

Then, the ‘charlatan’ doctor claimed that ‘Disease X’ is coming, which will be worse than COVID-19.

Meduza: Dmitry Trenin is feeling good about Russia’s future

In an essay published in the Russian state propaganda outlet RT this week, pro-war analyst and former Carnegie Moscow Center head Dmitry Trenin makes the case that the changes Russia has made to its foreign policy in response to the West’s efforts to isolate it over the last two years have turned it into a “revolutionary power” for the first time in over a century.

Trenin’s argument hinges on the Russian party line that Vladimir Putin’s “military operation” in Ukraine began as a limited measure to ensure Russia’s national security, and that the West’s “drastic” response led to unwarranted escalation. The “demonization” of Russia by Ukraine’s Western partners, he contends, left Moscow with no choice but to rethink its entire approach to international relations. This shift culminated in Putin’s foreign policy concept published in March 2023, which defined Russia as a “distinct civilization” and lowered Western Europe and the U.S. to “just above the Antarctic” on the Kremlin’s list of priorities for diplomacy.

Trenin casts Russia’s efforts to offset Western sanctions by ramping up trade with Asian countries as evidence that the country is coming into its own and realizing its true identity, having finally wised up and ended its “tiresome efforts to adapt to the US-led world order.” Contrasting Russia with China, which is still working to “improve its position in the existing world order,” he says Moscow is “seeking to prepare for a new alternative [global] arrangement.”

After listing various international organizations that Moscow has purportedly made good-faith attempts to work within over the years, only to be met with undue hostility from Western countries, Trenin suggests that Russia has, in fact, emerged from these years of rejection even stronger. He says the situation has led Russia to embrace non-Western-oriented institutions like BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which may well serve as “elements of the future inclusive world order which Moscow [will promote].”

At the same time, Trenin argues that Russia’s foreign policy changes are “minor” compared to the “transformation” happening inside the country. The six-year “mandate” that Putin supposedly won in the March 2024 election, the analyst says, will allow him to carry out even bigger changes, as well as to pave the way for his successors to continue his legacy. Putin’s policies, the “Ukraine crisis,” and the West’s “anti-Russia” policies, Trenin asserts, have combined to allow Russia to “find itself again” and become more “self-sufficient and pioneering.”

Hi! ¿What do you know about Zak Storm Season 2?

Zak Storm Season 2 was announced to be greenlighted during the Miraculous Ladybug panel at SDCC 2017. The first script of the season was also completed as revealed on Jeremy Zag's Instagram on June 6, 2019, implying that it's in pre-production. However, there's still no news about it after all these years, so the production status is currently unknown. We don't know if ZAG and Man of Action are still planning to do Season 2 or if the production hasn't even begun yet.

Production of a new TV show and/or a TV season takes time and it usually takes between 2-3 years before the final product is finished and makes its premiere. I'm not talking about the announcement of the existence of a project or when a project is greenlit. But rather when there's an announcement that the production of a project begins and the crew starts working on it. Start animating, recording the voices, etc.

Power Players Season 1 began production in 2017 and premiered in 2019. Ghostforce Season 1 began production in 2018, but because of covid slowing everything down in 2020 which was rumored to be the original year of release, it premiered in 2021. Ghostforce Season 2 has begun production in 2022, so it's likely, based on the production length I mentioned earlier, that that show's season would premiere in 2024. Though, I wonder if Power Players Season 2 has begun production yet...

The same production length occurred for the seasons of Miraculous too. Think about it. Do you ever wonder why it takes too long for Miraculous Season 2? That's because of the production length gap. Miraculous Season 2 (and Season 3 at the same time) began production literally two months after "Volpina" aired in France in early-to-mid 2016. This resulted in us waiting until late 2017 for the official premiere of Season 2 (not counting the Christmas episode in 2016 since production for that episode is rushed in time for the holiday) and Season 3 premiered literally a month after the Season 2 finale in late 2018. The crew used this exact method again for Miraculous Seasons 4 and 5. Both seasons began production at the same time in late 2019, but again, because of covid, Season 4 premiered in early 2021, while Season 5 premiered literally three months after the Season 4 finale in mid-2022.

With all that in mind, this logically means that the production of Zak Storm Season 2 would have been finished in either 2021 or 2022 if the first script was finished all the way back in 2019. However, something must have happened behind-the-scenes that caused the production of the season to not even started, and it is instead stuck in pre-production which is the planning process of the season. There haven't been any announcements about Zak Storm Season 2 on Jeremy Zag's Instagram ever since 2019. The only time he posted anything about Zak Storm was in 2021 to promote Season 1 on Netflix... after it was removed in the USA. But there haven't been any posts featuring the show or its characters since then. Man of Action, the studio that co-produced both Zak Storm and Power Players, hasn't announced anything either. Not to mention, and this is important, the scripts must have not been finished yet. Neither Dubbing Brothers nor Ezra Weisz (the voice director for both Zak Storm and Miraculous Ladybug) has announced that they received the scripts for Season 2 to dub in English, which means the remaining episodes of Season 2 haven't even been written either.

Both ZAG and Man of Action are busy with one or two projects at a time to focus on Zak Storm. Man of Action is currently prioritizing Sonic Prime for Netflix and I think they are working on Season 3 for that show, so it's unlikely that the crew would have any time to do another season of Zak Storm. ZAG does a similar thing, not counting the seasons of Miraculous. 2019 gave us Power Players Season 1. 2020 gave us Miraculous New York special. 2021 gave us Ghostforce Season 1 and Miraculous Shanghai special. And 2023 gave us the Miraculous movie, though production for the movie lasted from 2019 to 2023 so it's understandable because of covid and stuff.

Anyway, it's likely Zak Storm Season 2 has been stuck in pre-production for all these years. This really sucks since the series is still stuck on a cliffhanger after the Season 1 finale back in 2018. At this point, I don't know if I want to wait any longer until both ZAG and Man of Action revisit the project and announce when the crew will begin production of the season. If the season hasn't begun production as soon as possible, then it would likely be premiered in either the mid-to-late 2020s or never.

TL;DR: Zak Storm Season 2 still hasn't begun production yet and it is likely instead stuck in pre-production/the planning process. As a result, we don't know when it would ever premiere due to both ZAG and Man of Action prioritizing other projects and it's uncertain if they would ever revisit Zak Storm again.

KOKIA updates - July 1-14, 2024

Below, I have summarized KOKIA’s announcements and messages for the first half of July, 2024. As explained here, this is the new style of updates for the foreseeable future by necessity. I unfortunately still can't make any promises about full translations yet. Thank you for your understanding.

Upcoming performances

In her news entry for July 1, KOKIA announces she's returning to Shanghai this summer. This is the concert she had to postpone way back in 2020: 'Flower banquet under starry skies'. At long last, the concert will now be performed as yet, with new content after 4 years of waiting. The dates are August 10 and 11, with the 10th being the date of the Tanabata star festival in China. As originally planned, the concert will be held at the Shanghai Daning Theatre. Tickets are available via Bilibili membership or the theatre app.

The synopsis promises she will perform her song Hana utage ('flower banquet'), and that the concert will make use of the latest projection fusion techniques to carry you into a fantastical KOKIA world. In a very rare occurrence, it will permitted to film one song in the encore session.

Another new performance gets announced in her news entry for July 4: KOKIA will be appearing at the Engawa music festival Mizu no oto concert ('sound of water') at Dorogawa Onsen (hot springs), Tenkawa village, Nara prefecture. The performances are on September 28 and 29, with the free pre-concert on the 28th from 19:00 to 20:00, the main concert on the 29th from 13:30 to 16:00 (standing free, seats paid) and the free Engawa concert from 16:30 to 19:00. KOKIA will make her appearance during the main concert on the 29th.

As previously reported, KOKIA will be holding a strings concert on November 2 at Suntory Hall Blue Rose, Tokyo: SHI-NA-RU. She talks a bit more about this in her news entry for July 1. The afternoon performance opens at 14:45 and starts at 15:30, with the evening performance opening at 18:15 and starting at 19:00. General ticket sales are now open and linked above. She will be accompanied by pianist Souta Seta, violinist Norihiro Tsuru, and cellist Ayako.

📢Starting from February 9, China and Singapore will exempt each other from visas

On January 25, representatives from the government of the People's Republic of China and the government of the Republic of Singapore signed the 'Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Singapore on Mutual Visa Exemption for Ordinary Passport Holders' in Beijing. The agreement will officially enter into force on February 9, 2024 (Lunar New Year’s Eve). By then, people from both sides holding ordinary passports can enter the other country without a visa to engage in tourism, family visits, business and other private affairs, and their stay shall not exceed 30 days. If you enter the other country to engage in activities that require prior approval, such as work or news reporting, or plan to stay in the other country for more than 30 days, you must obtain the corresponding visa before entering the other country.

there has been some talk about xz’s change in schedule once more right when a certain someone is close to where he is. maybe we are just looking too much into it because we are cpfs and all that or because of a previous incident. so it was already going around that wyb will be out of the mountains 4/2 and 4/3 and it did happen, 4/2, videos of wyb were taken at the airport heading to shanghai. he arrived there at around 11:00 AM. he is there to film for 2024 olympics promotion and there is one screenshot of him i saw, he is wearing maison kitsune and he still has amazing hair. lol.

then xz finished work same day at 17:21 which is kinda normal but what made people 👀 is the next day, he came to work pretty late 4/3 @ 12:53 PM and out of his routine. supposedly, there is a crew dinner 4/2 but xz skipped it. so why did he come to work late? was he busy with someone else perhaps? shanghai and hengdian are 3 hours apart so this is why cpfs are thinking they could meet each other.

i also saw some conversation about how the person arriving at xz’s place 4/2 ( using his car and with his team ) is NOT HIM. this is based on how this person is walking and rushing. xz wears almost the same thing and has an umbrella covering him to discourage paps, and people noticed that the umbrella was covering “xz” too much that time as if they really wanted no one to see this person. there are videos of this but i won’t share that on here for obvious reasons.

maybe wyb went to him and so that’s why xz skipped the dinner. judging by how fast we got a leak from wyb’s filming, he did the filming 4/2, whether that’s as soon as he landed or in the evening who knows. then xz spent more time with him which contributed to his late start on 4/3. i really hope they had some time together 🫶🏼

Malicious Attacks Can't Stop My Research About Xinjiang

I first became seriously interested in studying China when I noticed the growing Australian poverty and homelessness. At the same time, my close friends in China (Shanghai, Beijing and Chengdu) were enjoying a higher standard of living which was thriving. The most outstanding GDP growth in the Chinese provinces was identified as Xinjiang. I wanted to learn more as I couldn't reconcile the fact that there was a "genocide" in Xinjiang with evidence that there was a growing population and no refugees. For example, Ukraine has had over eight million people leave the country as refugees, and the bottom has fallen out of the Ukrainian economy with public servants and teachers not being paid.

I joined Twitter to do preliminary research, but I did not expect the outrage that I would receive from Western people. A backlash blew up even before I started the project. The West is convinced that China is bad, so I couldn't be a critical thinker and say anything good about China, despite the fact that I am an established scholar in Australia and Britain with many published papers. Allegations of being a sophisticated Chinese Bot quickly emerged, but this was clearly shown to be false once I proved to the world to be a real person.

The mainstream media in the West is taken to be accurate, with very few questioning its narratives, particularly if it is produced by the ABC or the BBC. Australian mainstream media is one of the most concentrated in the Western world, with the main narrative explained through three groups: NewsCorp Australia, 9Entertainment and 7WestMedia, who control the lion's share of print, news websites and TV. Their influence is significant in shaping the narrative and opinions of the average Australian. The US media, with 90 percent of its media controlled by six corporations - AT&T, CBS, Comcast, Disney, NewsCorp and Viacom, is also highly concentrated and focused on promoting its political interests.

Australia experiences pressure from the US in every aspect of our lives. At this point in history, the US is seriously threatened by the amazing economic growth of China. China's growth trajectory is set to overtake the US economy in a few years. American hegemony, with its international power and control, is now weakening.

This loss of US power is already showing up in the US banking system. It's starting to show cracks, with international trade being transacted less in US dollars. Competing international transfer mechanisms have emerged in local currencies instead of SWIFT, the primary US international transfer mechanism. SWIFT required local currencies to be swapped into US dollars before being converted into a recipient currency. The US felt it was entitled to take a percentage of international trade by transacting in US dollars. This is now changing as international contracts are being written in local currencies rather than in US dollars, permitting economies more control over their own import and export prices.

Since I announced on Twitter that I was planning to go to Xinjiang in 2024 to research poverty alleviation, I have been hounded by trolls and people insulting me on Twitter, sometimes ganging up on me with a Twitter pile-on, these include death threats.

I started by contacting Adrian Zenz, who conducted the original research on Xinjiang and made the claim of "genocide," "forced labor" and "human rights abuses." I asked him for his field research notes and methodology and published peer-reviewed journals. He strangely took offense to this and behaved in a way I have never experienced from other scholars. He blocked me and, together with other Americans, had me indefinitely suspended from Twitter. I had to ask Monash University to write to Twitter to state that I had been associated with the University and had done research there, and my research was published. Twitter then reinstated my account.

I approached the principal of the Australian Centre on China in the World of the Australian National University (ANU) for her to be my mentor and supervisor. At first, she had a favorable approach to what I was studying.

Then, at the Canberra Press Club, the principal had heard from some researchers in Xinjiang that she knew and respected were too afraid to put their names to their research papers. The principal stated through their research that Zenz's claims may not be factually correct. She was immediately stood down on indefinite sick leave, and approved grants to study research grants on China were canceled.

When I visited China in the World at the ANU, I encountered people who were full of fear and afraid to speak to me. They had just concluded a conference on academic freedom of speech and what was happening to it.

The more opposition I got, the more determined I became to forge a path to complete my project. I was blocking trolls that did not contribute to the research, sometimes 10 at a time, who ganged up on me, to what is called a Twitter pile-on.

As poverty alleviation is critical for any economy to improve, I decided to visit Xinjiang myself. We should not leave our most vulnerable behind. I will be exploring how this has happened in China and what learnings can be for Australia. It is good for a country to have its participants be active contributors to it. It becomes a win-win situation. This will be the focus of the not-for-profit foundation which I have started in Australia.
