Dorothy Gale Through the Ages:
This is post number 5 for The Cross Roads, where I finish off the girls! The Cross Roads is the tentative title for my crossover AU project which includes The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and Milo and the Phantom Tollbooth! The story focuses on the main kids from each story all going to the same school and having whacky adventures!
More info about the AU, additional notes, and non-formatted drawings under the cut. Posts for Alice, Wendy, John, Michael, and Milo.
Chicken Scratch Translation (in the order the boxes should be read):
[Land of Oz Era. Age: 13. Source: Gale family photo album]
[Notes: perhaps the epitome of FDR's saying: "Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something esle is more important than fear." Her desire to help others and protect those she is close with will always outweigh the fact that she's easily frightened.]
[Farm Girl Era. Age: 18. Source: Henry Gale's photos, retouched by Alice Lidell]
[Notes: A cheerful and strong young woman who spends a lot of time helping her aunt and uncle with their farm. Dorothy is a very service-oriented person who distracts herself from her own uncertainty about life by solving her loved ones' problems instead.]
[Survey Pilot Era. Age: 30. Source: Hangar Security Cameras]
[Notes: After getting her pilot's license to cropdust, Dorothy found a passion for flight. She uses her skills to do weather tracking and mapping at Gale Farms and values her crew and coworkers like a second family.]
AU Info:
I am using a mix of canons, mostly for familiarity reasons, but also a couple others that I may or may not eventually specify. I am using the Warner Bros movie for the Wizard of Oz; the book for Milo and the Phantom Tollbooth; both books for Alice in Wonderland; and a mix of the book, the stageplay, and the Disney movie for Peter Pan, but primarily the Disney movie.
This is a modern!AU that takes place sometime between the 90s and the 2010s.
The story will be equally split between a highschool!AU that focuses on their mundane adventures and a fantastical plot that will take them to all the Magical Otherworlds in the original stories.
Their school is 7-12. At the time of the story, Alice and Michael are 8th graders, Milo and John are sophomores, and Dorothy and Wendy are seniors.
While the canon events of Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland still took place in England, both families moved to Kansas sometime after. That's right folks, we've finally specified a setting! The way I wrote Dorothy made her home and her family very important to her, and I don't think I can easily justify her family leaving their farm. So, while the town will have undergone some massive expansion, Dorothy is the only one who has never moved! Milo will also be a transplant, having lived in the indeterminate American suburbia of another state, most likely in the south east.
There will be ships: Dorothy x Wendy, who are both some kind of sapphic but unsure of their more specific labels; and John x Milo. John is gay and Milo is aspec, and they will be shipped in an aspec way. Alice and Michael will be single, but Alice is pan and Michael is the token straight.
These information files exist in universe! Who could be making them? Questions for you to find out another day!
Additional Notes:
Dorothy provided a couple of unique art challenges for me that I wanted to state in the main post instead of the tags:
As anyone who has seen the previous posts will have noticed, I am aggressively rainbow color coding these fuckers. Unfortunately for me, the obvious blue was already taken by Alice, so I had to pick another color for Dorothy! Ruby slippers + auburn hair=red color coding, but her blue dress is so iconic that I felt I had to keep it for my stylized version of her canon design, so it's her elementary school uniform.
Also related to my color coding issues, the shift in the Warner Bros movie from sepia-toned Kansas to technicolor Oz is also very iconic, and I wanted to include a homage to that somehow, so I decided your local hick Uncle Henry probably has an old-ass camera that takes non-color photos, and the kids offered to retouch it for him with a computer so he could have a color keepsake of his little girl. This is also why Dorothy's file has a lot more drawings than everybody else (technically there are more unique drawings of Alice but shh).
Survey pilot may seem a little out of left field for the profession, but these were chosen with care. I feel like Dorothy has been hyper aware of and fascinated by weather patterns since the Tornado Incident, and definitely would have become a storm chaser if she wasn't so attached to her home and family. (Also, when I say chosen with care: I mean that I had an epiphany that Alice would be a good lawyer and asked my dad with 0 other context what he thought the other kids' professions would be in the future. He spent like 3 days coming up with a well thought out answer for me, so I'm sticking to them!)

Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have WIPs. Jean Gabin and the Allure of Pepe By Susan King
Julian Duvivier’s PÉPÉ LE MOKO is one of the most influential films of the 20th century. Not only is the 1937 French romantic crime drama starring the legendary Jean Gabin, a precursor of the Hollywood film noir, the classic inspired such filmmakers as Michael Curtiz (Casablanca, ‘42), Carol Reed (The Third Man, ‘49) and even Jean-Pierre Melville (Bob le Flambeur, ‘56). PÉPÉ was such an international hit, producer Walter Wanger quickly released a near shot-by-shot remake in 1938, Algiers, directed by John Cromwell and starring Charles Boyer as Pepe and Hedy Lamarr in her first American role. That film earned four Oscar nominations, including Best Actor for Boyer and Best Supporting Actor for Gene Lockhart.
And lest we forget, the original and the remake also influenced animator Chuck Jones’ now pariah of a character, Pepe Le Pew, and a dreadful musical version Casbah (’48) with Tony Martin and Yvonne De Carlo.
PÉPÉ is also a prime example of the poetic realism style of French filmmaking popular in the late 1930s. Besides Duvivier, other directors known for this lyrical style include Jean Vigo, Marcel Carne and Jean Renoir. The male anti-hero characters who populated these films were doomed from the outset; they lived on the outskirts of society, as in Renoir’s The Lower Depths (’36); were members of the working class; or were criminals, as in the case of Pepe. These characters tragically think when they fall in love, they will break out of their cursed existence. But women cause their emotional downfall, and romance usually ends in the death of the character.
Pépé is a powerful, charismatic master thief who is respected and feared in the Algerian district known as the Casbah. He rules over the crooked, mazelike area where he plans his latest heists. But he is also trapped there. He dreams of returning to Paris but knows that will never happen. The police are in wait at the edge of the city if he dares try to escape. Also lurking around him is the sleazy and manipulative Inspector Slimane (Lucas Gridoux). As soon as he meets a beautiful Parisienne woman Gaby (Mireille Balin), the mistress of a much older wealthy Frenchman, you know Pépé is doomed.
PÉPÉ LE MOKO wouldn’t have been the enduring masterpiece it is without Gabin, the Everyman superstar of French cinema. Film noir superstars from Humphrey Bogart to Dana Andrews to Robert Ryan owe a lot of their anti-hero personae to Gabin. The legendary film critic Andre Bazin once described him as “the tragic hero of contemporary cinema.”
He was also one of the best dressed – no rumbled fedoras or ill-fitting suits. Just check out those well-tailored suits, snappy shoes and ties Pépé wears. In his 2002 New York Times critical essay on the film, critic Elvis Mitchell wrote Gabin’s “expressive and sorrowful pudding of a face immediately gave a picture a soul. Gabin was the tropical opposite to the waxy screen idols whose sleek good looks often suggested the hood ornament of a Hispano-Suiza.” And in the case of PÉPÉ, “Gabin’s wary cool is the heart of this movie.”
Because Wanger didn’t want any competition with his remake, PÉPÉ LE MOKO wasn’t shown in the U.S until 1941. The New York Times’ Bosley Crowther described the film as an “incomparable advantage over the Hollywood-made imitation: it is raw edged, realistic and utterly frank exposition of a basically evil story …” Adding that Gabin’s “tough, unsentimental performance of the title role is much more credible and revealing than Charles Boyer’s sad-eyed mooning as Pepe in Algiers.”
Gabin, who was a song and dance man before he made films, was probably the biggest star in France when he made PÉPÉ LE MOKO and Renoir’s Grand Illusion, which was also released in 1937. He was sexy, tough and tender. He didn’t need dialogue to express his emotions, he literally wore his heart on his face. There’s an incredible scene near the end of PÉPÉ where he is determined to stop Gaby from leaving on a ship. He’s like a madman making his wave through the maze of the Casbah, and Duvivier’s herky-jerky back projection of the streets reflects his tormented emotional state.
“Director Jean Renoir used to say that the range of feelings Jean Gabin can show and express are limitless,” said Charles Zigman, author of the Gabin biography, Coolest Movie Star, in a 2008 L.A. Times interview. “The difference with other actors is he feels the feelings of his character. … He is the consummate Everyman. When you start watching his movies what you notice immediately is that he’s likeable. You feel like you have known him for a long time. He’s very real. He’s not putting on airs.”
Wanger initially wanted Gabin to reprise his Pépé for Algiers, but the notoriously difficult actor turned him down. Gabin did come to Hollywood in the early 1940s, making two disappointing films, Moontide (1942) and The Imposter (1944), and more headlines for his high-profile romance with Marlene Dietrich. He returned to France and joined Charles De Gaulle’s Free French Forces as a tank commander, winning medals for his bravery in Europe and North Africa.
But his absence from the screen didn’t make the moviegoers hearts grow fonder for Gabin. In fact, when he returned to acting grayer and more corpulent, he discovered he had been forgotten. He made several expensive films, including the dreadful Martin Roumagnac (‘46) with Dietrich and the Oscar-winning The Walls of Malapaga (’49), but even the latter film didn’t get him out of his slump.
But luck changed when he turned 50, starring as an aging gangster in Jacques Becker’s terrific noir, Touchez pas au grisbi (’54), for which he won the Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival. And the following year, he reunited with Renoir for the delightful Technicolor hit French Cancan. And he never stopped working. In fact, his last film, Holy Year (‘76), was released the year he died. Beloved by his legions of fans, Gabin had a true hero’s funeral with full military honors. And his ashes were scattered into the sea from a naval ship.

Here’s something for you guys for the House/Ten au that’s a little pg-13...
Warning: making out, shirts come off, doesn’t get as far as you’d like for obvious reasons *coughtumblrcough*
On with the fic!
--
House has cornered the Doctor in one of the many, many rooms of the TARDIS. The Doctor had been busy digging around in the room he claimed was his wardrobe, massive, practically a whole different world of itself inside, and yet House still found him as he dug around for something.
His search for this one particular tie he was in the mood for was put on hold when he felt static-like hands on his shoulders. “Found you.” Came the excited voice that had become a constant in the Doctor’s life in recent times.
The Doctor smiled a little and looked up at the hologram. “I’m not that hard to spot in here, especially since I’m guess you’re using the TARDIS system to project yourself.”
“Of course, you left my pin on the console. Again.”
“Whoops!” The Doctor chuckled before grinning, spotting something out of the corner of his eyes. He plunged his hand into the chest he had been digging in, pulling out a strip of cloth. “There you are! Tricky thing, I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”
“Any reason why that one?” House asked, looking at the dreadfully tacky tie. He had seen the clothing in this room, had discovered the velvet capes, the technicolor disaster, the scarf that didn’t need to be so long, and whatever the hell the question mark thing was about. That tie was fitting of a bygone era of the Doctor’s, nothing like the pinstripes and trainers he liked running about in now, and very much not the bowtie and tweed he’d sport in years to come.
“Well, we’re going to Juzatro! The Queen of the capital is a huge fan of tacky, loud clothing, as long as it’s subtle so it doesn’t stand out against her mix of stripes and polka dots, and lots and lots of rainbow glitter. I figured this tie would be subtle enough to stand out, but not compete with her style!”
House just slowly blinked. “I’ll take your word for it, Doctor.” He sat himself on the floor with the Doctor, watching him as he moved to remove the tie he was currently wearing as the Doctor continued to talk about the dress code of Juzatro, until he reached out, hands on the tie.
The Doctor stopped, looking at the hands, that worked to slowly, carefully, untie the tie around his neck. “H-House?” He asked, looking at the green eyes of the hologram.
“I figured I could help you get dressed.” House spoke, voice low and with a small rumble to it. The Doctor felt a heat blossom in his stomach.
“I-It’s nothing, just the tie...” He mumbled, eyes focused on the hands as they removed the tie, dropping it to the floor next to them.
“Oh, I’m sure we could find a subtle shirt that could work alongside that hideous thing you’ve decided on.” House smirked, leaning forward to kiss the Time Lord. There was no resistance from the Doctor as he returned the kiss, leaning back to let House crawl into his lap.
The solid hologram didn’t have much weight to him, but there was pressure, that that really got the heat growing in the Doctor. During the heated kiss, House had gotten the Doctor’s suit jacket unbuttoned, the Doctor noted, then pushed it off.
“You wear too many layers.” House clucked his tongue, moving to kiss the other’s neck, glitchy fingers undoing the buttons of his dress shirt.
“So do you.” The Doctor snipped, finding that he could actually undo the buttons of House’s own suit jacket. Huh, that’s an interesting feature.
He got the jacket off and dropped it to the side, watching as it glitched out of existence, strange. The tie was the next to go, harder to do with House kissing at his neck like that.
“Hh, come on.” He pouted, noting that his own shirt was undone, and House was stilly mostly dressed.
“You could ask nicely.” House chuckled, sitting back a little.
“Hm.” The Doctor rolled his eyes. “Can I please take your clothes off?”
“Yes, you can.” House nodded, clearly smug and amused as he leaned back enough to let the Doctor have more access to his clothing.
Long, thin fingers made quick work of the tie, it vanished like the suit jacket, then the shirt was next. House now sat on his lap, only in his pants and shoes, with a soft, yet muscular form on display. The Doctor unconsciously licked his lips as he let his eyes roam over House.
House clearly noticed this, enjoying the attention. He reached over, removing the unbuttoned shirt from Doctor, tossing it aside. He leaned in close, kissing him with more force than before, but the Doctor didn’t complain.
He let his fingers roam over House’s exposed body, loving the sensation he felt while touching the hologram. It sent an interesting pulse through his body as he touched. And the kiss sure made it much more enjoyable, with the added bonus of House returning the touches.
He was leaned back, laying on some of the clothing he had tossed out of the chest, with House pressing him down, moving to kiss down his neck, his fingertips lightly trailing down to the waistband of his pants-
Suddenly, the TARDIS jerked hard enough to make House tumble off and for the Doctor to come out of his current mindset. He blinked, looking around, a bit startled, before he got the mental message that they had arrived at their destination.
With a bonus message of put your shirt back on.
House sighed dramatically. “She’s not going to let us have a moment to ourselves, is she?”
“After five times, I think you should know the answer to that.” The Doctor chuckled as he got his shirt back on.
He’ll take the pin with him, see if they can find somewhere at the Queen’s palace to have a moment alone.

The Weather Patterns AUs 31.7.21
Pitfalls 31.7.21 (The Poro is a Yandere AU) Yandere are a know factor in the human world, those who have Lovesickness can be diagnosed even as toddlers (not via behavior, it is in fact something that can be biologically identified, it’s called a sickness for a reason) and though it can’t be cured, one can watch for warning signs, identify which strain (normal emotions until/except for That One Person, or no emotions until/except for That One Person) and know what to do to cause the least pain and bloodshed when a target is picked. They exist is the demon world as well, but between them not being nearly as common (just like all Tropes), and the more obsessive nature of demons in general, they are not a known or recognized phenomenon. Iruma IDs Poro as a Yandere almost immediately after meeting him, but goes to ask Sullivan about it because he doesn’t know if Yandere are even a thing demons have and maybe Iruma just misidentified him. Sullivan has no idea what a Yandere is so they must be a human specific thing just like Main Characters, and Iruma ends up completely explaining Yandere to Sullivan. The biggest thing Poro (who was listening in) gets out of that conversation is the explanation of what makes the difference between a successful Yandere and one who just hurts and looses the object of their affections, leading to him murdering the Six Fingers member who tries to recruit him. #WeatherPatternAUs
Main Characters ?.6.21 In the human world there’s a phenomenon known as Main Characters, people who are born with technicolor hair and/or eyes, who everything always seemed to happen to, and who are often unusually good at stuff. Iruma has wondered before if his parents and others would’ve treated him as a normal child instead of the way they did if he was just born with black or brown hair and eyes. When Iruma gets to Babylis the first thing he notices is that his blue hair and eyes don’t stand out because basically everyone is technicolor here, and the first thing he wonders is if Babylis is a school specifically for Main Characters, or if demons just don’t have Main Characters. Iruma is a Main Character, this is not a thing demons have but that does not make it any easier on him. (discussion with Balam) #WeatherPatternAUs

Hey plagueposters!
I know that we’re all trying to stay sane during the quarantine and I also know that we’re all broke. So I’d like to point you in the direction of my Tablo, where all of my novels, short stories, and odd projects are available to read for FREE. (And if you’re in the position to purchase, you can on Amazon)
All of these are generally 18+ for either adult situations and/or language.
Good, Clean Dirt- "His great aunt twice removed would be rolling around in her grave if she weren’t freshly dead and also completely fictional." Why is small-time crook Reuben Weller following around a florist in a remote mountain town? For the money, of course! But things get weird when he stumbles, quite literally onto a very big secret. Watch out for those mountain-dwelling hipsters: they believed in the old gods before it was cool.
A Simple Spell and the Dangers of Online Dating- You think you’d know a guy after dating him for a few months. One day you’re cuddling under the blankets and the next you’re running from him in the woods because you traded human bones for necromancy after feeding him a cursed muffin. But that’s love... I guess?
The Glue Famine- An entire different Disaster Party, this time with more glitter. Experience the pain of working in a craft store during the Slime Craze as I have experienced it. Now in technicolor.
For Your Flower Shop AU- a wild ride through the not-as-boring-as-you-thought world of professional floristry and a number of other things since I started working there. Follow me on an adventure as I fight off flower thieves, summon a shopping cart out of nowhere, and learn what to do when the Church of Life gives you lemons.
And a handful of other weird shit. I’ll be working on another project while I have more downtime and I’ll update Flower Shop AU when get a chance.

My Ao3 Posted Works Master List
Under Username Aelwyn
I EXPLICITLY FORBID THE REPOSTING OF MY FICS TO OTHER PLATFORMS, REUPLOADS TO AO3, OR THE COMPLETION OF WIPS THROUGH AN AI GENERATOR; MY OPINION ON AI CAN BE FOUND HERE. TO THOSE THAT DO ANY OF THIS: DISHONOR ON YOU, DISHONOR ON YOUR COW-
Updates as new content is added. Anything without a “(WIP)” or “(Unpublished)” tag is completed. Published works are linked. Some fics have Colorized Acronyms in front of their titles, denoting that they are a part of the same series. For ease of remembering what the series is called, I always title my series after the first book in them.
My Asks are always open! I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to ask about my stories. I don’t take requests, but I like playing WIP Games and I am fond of fan work of my fics. I may come off as unapproachable but I genuinely love fandom interaction with my work! 🥰
☕️ Spill the Tea - "What is your favorite project right now? Why? Give us a Snippet." Send a Teacup to my Ask Box and I’ll answer it!
I have a Discord server for my readers to chat on now! Link is always open for new readers, head on in and read the rules before getting started!

Doctor Who:
“Timepetals Vignettes” Series:
Doctor/Rose, and are separate fics gathered in one spot.
Also, where it says “Multi”, this means multiple Doctors are present in the fic but not more than two people in a ship at a time. All fics are monogamous, not poly.
Some stories in this set are Gen and are missing either Rose or the Doctor, because they are somewhat like character studies… they are marked by a double asterisk.

Fanfic ask game! :)
What’s your favourite fic to receive comments on and why?
What is something you recently felt proud of in regard to your writing (finished a fic, actually planned for once, etc).
OHHH thanks for the two of these together because they go EVER SO WELL with how I want to answer this question haha!
What’s your favourite fic to receive comments on and why?
In Scientia, Magicae FOR SURE because it's not only my long fic project, but I put a LOT of heart and soul into the worldbuilding and the concept and I know I haven't gotten to the MEAT of it yet because I can't help but write fanfic like a full blown novel I'm just SO EXCITED to share that idea! It's also extremely self indulgent if I'm honest with myself so when people also like the thing that makes your brain happy personally it's nice and validating hehe. Plus I just love fantasy AUs to death so it's nice to hear feedback on mine!
What is something you recently felt proud of in regard to your writing (finished a fic, actually planned for once, etc).
I WAS SO SO SO SOOOO proud of that Scottish Safehouse fic I did! (Presented in Technicolor) Just the planning, the careful execution, I spent HOURS looking up JUST the right movie quotes for how they lead into the very symbolic and meaningful conversations Jmart had and the way it all tied together at the end and just NNNGGGH it turned out JUST the way I wanted it! Also it is sooooort of meant to be a semi-not 100% related but sort of related prelude to a post Mag 200 fic I have planned for sometime when I have some time >83 BUT unfortunately I completely biffed the posting of it XT... I accidentally posted from a draft so it wound up several pages back on the tag, then when I deleted it and reposted not only was it late at night but it still kind of got eaten by the dead zone glitch so I feel like I panicked and hucked it to the fandom RIGHT under the radar and past their noses and not a lot of people actually saw it haha! But yeah I was REALLY proud of how that one turned out!!

2, 3, 17?????
2. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project I’m working on Chapter 5 of Wild At Heart. I know I’ve mentioned this a lot over the past months, and a lot of it is finished. But I had a scene I wasn’t happy with that I finally found the solution for. And I’m working out a structural problem in another scene that I think I’ve got down, but I still need to write that part. Also trying to work out if and how the actual s3 does and doesn’t fit in with it took me some time. It’s probably next on my list, unless I run into another problem. Another thing I’m really looking forward to is the Modern Arranged Marriage AU I posted a snippet of yesterday. The plot still needs some work, but I like the Amber POV in it (it’s multiple POV this one). It’s also my first AU, so that’s super exciting to me. And if I ever manage to write something more PWP than Plotty McPlotface I’ll be over the moon
3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway) Okay, so it’s not like I can’t be arsed to write this, but both of these ideas will require research, one more than the other, and I just really do not have the time to do that just now. The one I’m sure I’ll definitely write (maybe I’ll even bang it out when I have a few weeks off this summer) is a Pretty Woman AU. I have some story beats written down for it, and I can’t wait to write mommy-mode Beth all floral blouse and sensible shoes going into the Versace store. But I need to look into how this escort world kinda works. And I would love to write a Brio period piece someday, but that really requires extensive research (I know, technically I could probably wing a lot of it, but I’m a detail focused ho on these things and I like accuracy) so I’m filing that away for some time in the future.
17. Do you think readers perceive your work - or you - differently to you? What do you think would surprise your readers about your writing or your motivations? Uhmmm, I have no Idea actually. My three GG-works on AO3 are (aside from writing style) pretty different from each other. I think when it comes to story-structure it could go either way, either people think I’m overachieving in originality, or they like that I go out of my way in terms of creativity. Personally, I think it’s kind of in the middle. If I had started Wild at Heart as a reader I would’ve thought ‘Wow, this writer really put a lot of work in planning! She must be so well organised’, while I wrote the first chapter, published it and was like ‘Ok, now what?’. (Did plan story beats after that haha). Maybe people think I plan a lot extensively because my stories are a bit of a puzzle, but truth is a barely do. I lose interest in writing things when I plan too much, so it’s for all our benefit that I don’t, really. I’m also pretty messy at home (unlike work, I’m super organised there), which mostly pains my mother. I have no idea how people perceive Technicolors in relation of what I’m trying to tell with it, I intentionally layered it a lot so people could enjoy it as a kids adventure fairytale type of story, but you can read into a lot more. To me there’s two big overarching themes that I personally wanted to explore; number one is granting forgiveness when someone or something wronged you, and number two is processing trauma and moving on. Two themes that hit close to home for me, but I translates wildly different in this fic. Still don’t really know what that might say about me, tbh, but I doubt that’s the first thing people think about.

okay so if i DID start a jjba ask/daily blog.........

//this assuming the urls are available, if not ill keep the idea and just change up the username til its a free one//
dailybrandos (dio, his four sons, the world, diego)
askdadabbachio (golden wind based single dad au, would have primary focus on abbachio raising narancia and fugo because theyre the ones i started the au idea with)
sometimes-stands (stand out au; a modern/amorphous no timeline nonsense au in which Stands, once manifested are always summoned, can act of their own accord and move away from their users; everyone just sort of chills and hangs out with cool technicolor brain projections)
mostlyjojofams (just a collection of whoever i feel like drawing; be it buccy gang, la squadra, mudad fam, duwang gang, stardust crusaders, whatever im feelin)
goodendpassione (everybody lives au golden wind! bucci gang, la squadra, and doppio extended family chaos)
