Pluto was no longer classified a planet because another solar system body, Eris, was discovered, and it is larger than Pluto. The IAU (international astronomical something) then had to meet and define "Dwarf Planet", because they didn't want to have to classify every non-sattelite solar body as a new planet. The reason Pluto is a dwarf planet is because it doesn't have the gravitational pull to clear its orbit of other bodies. (i think.)
