it's pretty fuckin rich that people tell suicidal people that they're "being selfish" by wanting to die, because it could not be more selfish to expect someone to just continue suffering through a life they do not want simply because their death would make them sad.

the people who say that kind of thing never want to offer any genuine help to the suicidal person that will change their life circumstances in a lasting way. they never want to house them, get them medical care, pay off their debts, introduce them to new friends, nurse them through a years-long trauma recovery process, get them a pet, drive them to a support group every week, buy them their groceries, clean their house, listen to them talk about their tough feelings for the millionth time.

lasting healing within a dramatically different and better life is never what they want for the suicidal person. they just want the person to not do anything that would make them sad. and not look too sad when they are around them, either, because even if they do white-knuckle their way through a painful existence, they are expected to also make it look easy.

but it's funny, isn't it, that by pushing away all thoughts of sadness, all thoughts of suicide, the person who says such a dismissive thing to the suicidal person is revealing how much they are on the brink of despair themselves. if, when faced with a suicidal person, your number one goal is to prevent their suicide for the sake of your own emotions rather than to improve circumstances for the suicidal person themselves, well, your own emotional grip on reality must be quite tenuous indeed. if you think the most important emotionally reality about a suicide is how it impacts you and not the person that has done it, well, you really must think that it's normal to expect other people to just constantly silently suffer for one another.

there's almost a bit of sick envy that i sometimes hear when people claim that they suicidal are "selfish." the statement almost seems to betray that everybody thinks of suicide at one point or another, that everyone has been in enough pain before that they've wished for it to end, but that since they have endured, they expect everyone else to endure the same for them, so that they don't slip into despair again as well.

it's so offensive because it is such a deeply missed opportunity. instead of batting away the statements of a suicidal person as if they were the greatest, most evil taboo, a person could really sit with them in their despair and say hey, I have felt that way too.

If only we lived in a world where acknowledgement of suicide ideation was not so taboo. Even psychologists and psychiatrists treat it as this untouchable thing, they freak out and jump into action and rob you of your body autonomy if you are willing to voice that you have thought of it. but virtually everyone has thought of it at one point or another, and some live with thoughts of it all the time forever but still have basically decent lives that they experience as worthwhile.

the legal apparatus that exists to prevent suicides at all costs have made it too risky for any kind of healthcare professional to allow the frank acknowledgement of suicide ideation to happen. hell, even the protections that have evolved online to supposedly "protect" suicidal people by filtering out content about suicide and redirecting those browsing for information about it to suicide prevention resourcse has, counterproductively, served to make the state of suicidality even more unspeakable. it cannot be spoken about, cannot be posted about, cannot be acknowledged, is not permitted, is never allowed to just be.

and that harms suicidal people so much.

The first time Tucker offers to cut his hair, Wash honestly thinks he’s joking.

It’s not a secret that Tucker isn’t the fondest of Wash, what with him being part of the reason his friend is gone, so it’s a surprise Tucker would offer to do something so… helpful.

But Tucker is genuine about it. He’s seen how Wash cuts his own hair, choppy and uneven and poorly taken care of and it pains him to watch. Especially since Tucker has been doing his own hair as well as the sim troopers hair for years.

So Tucker sits Wash down in his salon chair and decides to give him the works.

Wash was hesitant at first, he hadn’t let anyone get close enough to even touch his head, let alone let them wave around sharp objects by it, but here he was, sitting in a chair with his head tipped back into the sink as Tucker washes his hair. He damn near falls asleep from the treatment, Tucker’s hands are gentle but firm as they scrub his hair with nice smelling shampoo and conditioner, making Wash’s hair feather soft and looking more healthy and shiny than it had ever been.

“You good there dude?” Wash simply hums in response and unconsciously leans further in the hands untangling his locks. It feels so good. Wash didn’t know a person could feel like this.

After his hair is cleaned and detangled, Tucker begins the actual haircutting part of this impromptu hair care session. There’s a little bit of talk over what Wash would like for his hair, but since Tucker is the designated hairstylist for the canyon, Wash lets him go wild with whatever he thinks would be best.

“I trust you.” He’d said without an ounce of doubt. Tucker may have his reservations about Wash, and for good reason too, but the man saved Wash when he didn’t have to, gave him a home and a team and a purpose that had all been taken from him. Tucker could’ve let him die, should’ve let him die, but he didn’t. And Washington will spend the rest of his life laying that debt back.

Tucker had given him a wide eyed look, but didn’t say anything more as he began to snip away at Wash’s hair. It ends up a little shorter than Tucker would like but Wash’s hair is so uneven that there aren’t many options for a good haircut. At the very least, it’s better than what Wash had before. He finishes it off with by massaging a hair mask in, hopefully helping Wash’s hair recovery from the neglect it’s received over the years.

Tucker steps back and admires his work before giving Wash a nudge to do the same. “So, what do you think?”

Wash opens his eyes, a little sleepy from all the soft touches and soothing motions of his haircut. He’s surprised by what he sees, not quite recognizing himself in the mirror.

It’s not all that different from what he usually does with his hair, just done a bit more professionally with a bit more intention behind each cut and buzz. But his eyes are also lacking the heavy eye bags he’s grown used to seeing, his face looks healthy and fed and clean, he looks like a person rather than a hollow shell he was as Recovery One. All together, he looks well rested and almost content.

He look like himself.

“I think it suits me.” He says with a small smile, admiring himself in the mirror in a way he hasn’t done since before he joined Project Freelancer. He turns his head back and forth, really giving himself the chance to look over Tucker’s clean cut, before he looks back at Tucker and honest to god grins. “Thank you, Tucker.”

Tucker is also taken aback by how soft Wash looks. His face had been painfully neutral the whole time they’ve been at Valhalla, but right now, with a smile gracing his lips and contentment relaxing his normally stiff posture, Tucker would dare to call him beautiful.

Wait, what?

“No uh, No problem, man.” Tucker chokes out, turning his face away to hide the blush creeping up his face. He eventually coughs up an excuse to leave the room, suddenly very aware of how pretty Wash is and how close he’d been standing to him the whole time.

He leaves Wash to sit in awe of this new side of him, one he hadn’t seen since before Epsilon. Wash stares at himself in the mirror and smiles again.

It feels nice to be happy about something for once.

1-3: Born in Greed, he has very little memories of his bio-parents. Thinks they were low level in some mob but hard to know for sure. Never reached out (and likely don't even know/recognize Fizzy is their child once he gets famous) in his life.

3: A circus worker found him abandoned by the popcorn stand. While at first people thought it was a case of some couple losing their kid (not the first time nor the last) as announcements became more "Come get your fucking child", it got obvious no one was going to claim him. Cash saw money signs in adding another child (sweet, sweet unpaid labor) to the roster, and that was that. Cash got the name Fizzy from a random clown prop/sign (I just love the idea Fizzarolli is like HHverse of naming your kid Krusty)

5: First glimpse of Mammon; it was one of those blink and you miss it life altering moments: An ad on a TV in a shop window, a millisecond of Mammon performing at some mall before getting shoved out by security, him passing by on a float of money. He saw him and his whole brain flared to life and he saw his future ahead of him. He will be the greatest clown ever!

General childhood notes; Grew up in step with Barbie and Blitz following everything they ever do. He did any stunt they did because they didn't seem scared so why should he. He loved performing for them and making them laugh and that love spilled over into Clowning very easily. If you had asked him what his dream was at this age it was the three of them forming a traveling trio and TAKING OVER THE WORLD

13-15: Light teen fuckery like shoplifting makeup they can't afford and fabric to make costumes. He gets handy with a sewing machine and makes everything for the three of them usually basing it off of whatever Clown Fashion magazine he swiped. He also starts to experiment with his gender around here and comes out as nonbinary in his early teens!

15; Seeing Mammon was the greatest night of life. He still thinks about it as an adult and the whole night gets swept up in this haze that destroys every blemish, in his mind it was the perfect show. Blitz's (right) negative comments bleeding the jealousy filter that comes later. He will be Mammon's protege even if it means leaving the Circus. This was also when the "light" stalking he experienced hit a new high and when Blitzo became his unofficial bodyguard. Cash told him to ignore it and " Take it as a good sign of how popular you are!"

16th [Explosion]: This will be a full hc post by itself one day but tldr he spent most of the after unconscious. Later, he got told the "hero" Cash pulled him from the wreckage before the remains of the tent finished what the fire didn't. He is shocked and hurt made worse by Cash's claims it was Blitz who did it, years of jealousy turning unfortunately deadly. Barbie is in not much better shape and they are alone in the wreckage wracked with betrayal, pain, and medical debt.

16-21: Recovery time. He got fitted with prosthetics and started physical therapy pretty quickly. He focused on his goals and put his head down while also learning ASL for when 1) His voice is too weak to speak from smoke damage 2) Hearing loss in his right ear. Soon he was able to rejoin the Circus (Albeit in a much more stripped down form) and eventually after Barbie's use made her unable to perform, took on most of the performance rolls. He mostly stayed out of guilt with Cash being his "savior".

21: Things hit a boiling point. After Barbie left it was a lot on him as the face of the Circus and he started making demands as such. Cash pushed back again and again until finally he snapped and ended their professional relationship. Out of impulse, he left the Circus for Mammon's stage entering the competition in a thrown together costume and a prayer. And. He. Fucking. Won. After signing on he realized the debt he had with Mammon but shrugged it off as a reality of fame. He moved into greed and took up a small apartment and lived out the year as any other winner. This includes an AI scan to create a robot for LooLooLand.

Nebulous pre-canon I have no set date for:

Mammon announced his wish to start selling robots in his likeness. He felt a little weird about it but went along with it using a more advanced AI based off the LooLoo Land model.

Asmodeus was commissioned to work on them (Fizzbot was made by Mammon hence its...quality) and him and Fizzy gradually grew closer over the project.

Sex robots come shortly after and he just keeps saying yes because its Mammon! His Idol! ...wooh. Also the echo of Crash's words about the stalking not helping much either.

As Mammon shifted focus to the Fizzy Bots, the stage became less a focus and he started working in Ozzies. Moving to Lust as his work moved out of Greed just made sense.

Daylight soon had shimmering waves of heat rising from the packed earth. Not wholly unpleasant, provided one dressed accordingly and had drank moderately the evening before. An excellent means for the Winds to gauge the mettle of their potential competition as waxen faces and pouring sweat gave a hint of just how potent the scent of alcohol rising from those unfortunate sellswords would be if one ventured near.

It served to bolster the confidence of those present that had come far bettered prepared. A scent of fresh oils on steel and leather, their gear well-maintained even if scars and wear made clear it was not ornamental. While Ellory let her chinstrap hang unfastened, her helmet sat neatly in place to tame the coiled nest of hair stuffed up underneath it. They were no honorguard. A few loose buckles would hardly dissuade a prospective client.

Arlette shadowed Oliver as he busied himself with gentlefolk sipping their morning lassi beneath colorful awnings. One of those few Ul'dahn that stood taller, raising her eyes a couple ilms to match his amused gaze, "You're too old for all the runnin' about this is bound to have! Why ain'tcha snorin' the day away?"

"Bloody right! But Silent wanted a quality eye about afore she got here." He turned his head, pressing a thumb to one nostril as he exhaled sharply to clear the other. "Pays off our debt."

"Recovery work." Wilhere lowered his voice, leaning closer to keep things between the four of them, "Purses under the canopy heard 'bout a courier lost up in Ablathia's Spine some time back. Carrying something real important."

An amused twinkle entered the alcoholic's eye, "Don't make me tell Vagrant about that tongue of yours! But aye, Coerthan side. Don't know any more!"

"Tell Vagrant, Wilhere." Both brothers chimed in nearly on top of each other.

"Thanks for the chatter, grampa! River. Crater. Lets see what Oliver's dug up. Already feeling better about this one!"

Your papers spill out of your hand & fly across the floor. He is slumped across the office tiles. You think he’s having a Stoke. His mouth is foaming & his body is having a fit. Thank god for the recent first aid responders course you took 6 weeks ago. Since everything that’s happened, you’ve been really proactive to be as good a person as you can, taking every first aid & life saving course possible, learning Portuguese & French, learning about all the agricultural the family does, ready for when the day arrives that this will be passed to Javi. But you were not expecting some of your new skills to be used so soon.

“Javier” you shout as you drop to your knees next to him & get your phone out to call for an ambulance. “Mr Gutierrez can you hear me” you check his pulse, it’s still there but it’s faint. You flick his tongue out of his mouth to make sure he doesn’t swallow it & put him in the recovery position. The voice down the phone speaks to you.
