This tumblr has been active/inactive off and on for some time now, however it’s once again time to fire up the defibrillator and bring things back online. For, some 9 years, I was (quite proud and happy I could do so) full time caregiver to my Father, who unfortunately passed last month on the 3rd http://www.vulnepro.com/2018/07/not-way-i-hoped-to-return-but-i-always.html Due to to the clearly significant changes in my circumstances Vulne Pro has returned to full time creative production so there will be a return to posting here as well. There’s a lot of catching up to do. It’s, indeed, been awhile but happy to be back.

HELLO PEOPLE!
I’ve been absent for quite awhile, leaving this production blog kinda dry:/. I do have to apologies for that... guess I cannot blame my absence on anything else then ‘life’ happening, and creating a short movie on your own is like climbing up a mountain while carrying a donkey. In other words, it’s really hard.
Throughout my journey I’ve fallen OUT of love with “Obscurum”, and IN love multiple times, and sometimes you have to step away to get a better perspective of the story... to see things clearer and figure out exactly what it is you want to tell.
I come bearing GREAT NEWS however, and can say that I now see things clearer after FINALLY locking down the script a couple of months back! The bottom line is that I feel inspired again, and i can’t wait to start posting more production stuff again!
The plan is to create a production bible so that I can start pitching to get in some funding for the project. So stay tuned, there will be much more to come!!

”Not a whisper of the wind”
(translated from Swedish, meaning ”I have no idea”)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last few days I’ve spent doing research. I’ve browsed through tons of photos of the late sixties and early seventies as well as creating a timeline of the spy-related events that actually happened (and are publicly known). This had led me to the conclusion that I need a more personal/human story to mix with the political/spy stuff. And a character to be the eyes and ears of the of the reader. This has been done plenty in comics history and been especially successful in the genre I’m planning for this comic - the all age adventure with an funny touch.
By quickly trying to capture the cars and people of the era in a few lines I hope to find a style and characters to build on. Young men wore turtlenecks, straight chinos and sportjackets. Most of them had semi long hair. I think I might have found the seed to one of the proposed lead characters in these drawings but its far to early to say. The answer lay whispering in the wind.

Studio listening and creating our artistic vision - 27th March
Tumblr media
This was our first studio session since the hand-in for the development recordings. From the beginning of Jan until the end of March we regularly have been using Studio 2 for other modules and feel extremely comfortable with using the S6 console and various plug-ins. We started the session by listening to a range of artists for developing my acoustic song ‘Yellow Moon’ into a neo-soul, hip-hop track. Here are four tracks which we listened to intensely, to discover what we could incorporate in terms of tonality and instrumentation for our tracks.
Nate Smith – Bounce parts 1 and 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzQlpgGoXLc
This track by Nate Smith captures the essence of a drummer who has a very natural feel being slightly behind the beat, which is a typical characteristic of neo-soul and hip-hop. Even though we wouldn’t be using a real drummer, Adam and I discussed how we would manipulate sampled drums for it to sound as real and lively as possible. Our initial intention of making our sampled drums sound like as if we recorded them live would be to use EQ and compression as performance enhancers on each individual element of the drum sequencer.
Bruno Mars – Chunky
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oacaq_1TkMU
Adam discovered in this track that there is a snare on beat 2 and then a clap on beat 4, which creates two different beat tones in the chorus. We took note of this technique and began to develop a beta for jewellery lane with different snare sounds on beats 2 and 4.
Zak Abel – Running from Myself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35_Yg-BOWK4
In Zak Abel’s “Running from Myself” a catchy countermelody in the chorus stands out from the main vocal line (track). We felt that there was space in the chorus for a countermelody, so Adam recorded a riff with an organ setting on the Nord keyboard. We fine-tuned the tone of the organ by adding a bit of distortion so that it would cut through with intent during the chorus.
 Kendrick Lamar – King Kunta
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRK7PVJFbS8
Adam and I particularly like the bass resonance and sub-frequencies in this record, in which we began to emulate in some of our tracks.
Here was our agenda of the day, in which we used for the majority of our future sessions in the studio.
 9 – 10am – Research tracks / intensive listening
10am – 12pm – Beat mapping of Yellow Moon using Boom drum sequencer
1 – 2pm – We recorded acoustic guitar and vocals for Jewellery Lane and Yellow Moon
3pm – Adam and I discussed future dates for the studio and booked them online because we were aware that other groups were beginning to book up studio time

Studio Session - Last minute creative decision
26th April 2017
Today’s session consisted of Ben making a last minute creative decision to create an electro acoustic atmosphere. He decided that he wanted to have big drums that managed to lift the end of the song. Ben took inspiration from Beyonce’s last chorus in halo. Using the sampling technique which I showed to Ben using the Boom Drum Machine.

Here’s my animatic for my film. This is my first draft of this so there’s probably some things that need changing. Also, ignore how terribly bland my voice sounds (just think it took me a lot of takes just to get that result). Anyway, some points feel too long but others feel too fast or wordy, I guess we’ll see how production class and my professor view it!

We continued our concept designs for our documentary. I have completed both hand out sheets and need to revisit each statement in more detail.
