Star Trek: Prodigy - 2x12 Last Flight Of The Protostar Pt. 2 Reaction

We learn a good lesson about leadership in Star Trek: Prodigy 2x12 "The Last Flight of the Protostar, Part 2." Get caught up with my review on @fangirlishsite.

Spoilers for up to 3x11 of Ted Lasso and Season 4 of Haikyuu. This is mostly a Ted Lasso post, heads up.

Ive been thinking a lot about the similarities narratively between Ted Lasso and Haikyuu (bc Ive been watching both and my brain can’t handle it)

There are actually lots of parallels between AFC Richmond and Karasuno, especially in their styles of play; both are highly focused on teamwork and working together over individual strengths. Both utilize organized trick plays (all of the trick plays against Man City in TL 1x10 and the freak quick, Hinata’s feint, and the synchronized attack from HQ).

At the beginning of the shows we meet a prodigy character who believes they can win all by themselves (Kageyama and Jamie) and they learn that they need their teammates both through conversations with mentors.

“The best team of six wins, dumbass!”

“I think that you are so sure you are one-in-a-million that you forget that out there you are just one of eleven”

Nates philosophy during his split from Ted in season 2 (TL) is also very similar to Washijō, the coach of Shiritorizawa. Nate knows that his ideas work and at that point he hasn’t coached the strength focused players at West Ham and he is dealing with Richmond which means that when his ideas fail he blames the players. When things aren’t going their way in 2x12 he wants to abandon the False Nine saying, “It would work if we had players who knew what the fuck they were doing.”

I think at this point in season 3 he would be a lot more flexible because of the way he has grown but we will have to see.

I think West Ham is set up as Shiratorizawa which means Man City is Aoba Johsai which is lovely for a few reasons: 1) its the old home base of our prodigy character, the styles of play are similar but (supposedly) more elevated than our protagonist’s team, 3) and light blue!! which I find very cute.

This is also interesting because the pattern in Haikyuu is a loss to Seijoh, a win against Seijoh, a win against Shiratorizawa. Following this pattern we would expect a loss against Man City (1x10, the game that sent them to relegation), a win against Man City (3x11), and now a win against West Ham (???) in the finale, hopefully.

If they lose then there are some very interesting implications that West Ham is not actually Shiratorizawa but rather a team from nationals.

Anyway I have no idea how large the center of this Venn Diagram is but thanks for joining me. I realize that this is a pattern that is probably common in sports stories but these are the two Im most familiar with so I noticed these.

In LA he also had releases out on Lucas Rodenbush‘s label Scenic Music and again in Detroit, an E.P. out on Dwayne Jensen‘s (r.i.p.) label Fathom Records. Beside this he started releasing on Vancouver based RF Music, run by Rennie Foster, with a track on the Entrowerk compilation. On his home ground, he released on Murge Recordings and Rhythmic Science (alongside Mark Archer, Derek Carr and Mark Ambrose), with more releases due out on Feelharmonic Records and classic rave/bleep label - Ozone Recordings. Finally he started his own imprint, Xenology Records, with co-owner and DJ partner Jace Syntax, which focuses on futuristic house and techno. His tracks have been remixed by Drivetrain, Pure Science, Atesh K, Aubrey, Hughes Gibouley, Lucas Rodenbush – E.B.E., Dave-G, 2lite, Thomas Barnett, Jules Wells, Jace Syntax, Jacksonville, Jay Tripwire, Cloudmaster Weed and Sean Deason. Alongside his own productions Black Jack's DJ career has seen him play in the best underground clubs in Scotland, including the Pelican, Soundhaus, Club 69, Glasgow School of Art, and Carlton Studios, along with other international gigs. He has been a resident at club nights Syntax, Bang Tech 12, Pigeon Project, Meautronix, Science Friction and Funion and has played alongside Blake Baxter, Richard Grey, Nathan Coles, Laid Back Luke, Funk D’void, Pure Science, Tama Sumo, Thomas Barnett, Claus Bachor, Tim Baker, Deepak Sharma, HD Substance, Detroit Techno Militia and Derrick Thompson, to name but a few.
