#Femaleactivist, #YogitaBhayana, #outstationpatients While the country has entered into the fourth phase of the lockdown amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and most people are inside their homes, there are many on the other side waiting for a way to reach back to their loved ones. When returning back to their homes became a big problem and there was no hope to see their loved ones, social activist Yogita Bhayana stepped in to help these people who had come to Delhi for getting treated at various hospitals and now when the OPDs and doors of these hospitals are shut for them, they are just trying to get back to their homes. Speaking to ANI, social activist Yogita Bhayana said, “From day 1 of lockdown, our most vulnerable group were patients who had come to Delhi for seeking treatment in Delhi as they are living in Rain Basera as they had no place to live.” “We found a group which had most of the heart patients, cancer patients and others with burn injuries. Due to this, they are not even able to walk. Firstly, they are poor and secondly, they are with disabilities or problems,” she added. She also urged the administration to prioritise the travel of these outstation patients as they are in need and require urgent care and attention. Bhayana arranged for the buses for them with her own pocket, put in all her hard work and efforts. She also took all the permission from administration to take those buses to other states and send these helpless humans home. The first batch of these buses carrying these outstation patients left from Delhi at around 2:30 am on Monday while the second batch was sent off from Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan on May 21. Yamuna overflow: Evacuated families forced to stay on roads
Due to less availability of shelter homes, families residing near old Yamuna Bridge in the national capital are allegedly forced to stay on roads as they were evacuated from their homes after the water level of the river crossed the danger mark.
"Everything is visible here for people to see. We have not been provided any kind of support from the government since we left our houses due to overflow of water in Yamuna river. We are now forced to live on the streets. I was staying near the bridge," one of the members of the families told ANI.
Another one alleged that most of the Rain Baseras (shelter homes) are full due to which they are forced to sleep on footpaths.
"Rain Baseras are full. We were staying in temporary houses near the bridge. However, the government asked us to leave and now we are left with no other means," the person said.
On a related note, the District Magistrate (DM) of East Delhi, K. Mahesh earlier on Sunday ordered closure of traffic on the old Yamuna Bridge with immediate effect after flooding in river Yamuna crossing water level crossed danger mark.
The water level touched 205.46 metres on Sunday, reaching beyond the danger mark of 204.83 metres.
Commuters faced problems as they were stuck in traffic after they reached the bridge unknowingly.
The water level is expected to rise further after over 6,50,000 cusecs of water was released from Haryana.
