(it's #2 on the first 'fics still missing'. there's a rec however i think that fic/the relevant scene was posted AFTER i sent the ask on may 2021 so it's probably not it, and i do not think it's 300k 😲 long!)

the only thing i still remember is that wen qing does a surgery to bring back wei wuxian's core, and the new core is from a wen prisoner who is set to be executed. the prisoner turns out to be wen yuan's bio dad, and he's willing.

i think there's another core surgery but as punishment? i may be mixing up fics since it's been a long time.

A) I think this one might have appeared in your blog and that's how I learned about it the first time. Modern AU Wangxian where they're retired/considering retiring figure skaters, and the fic is a series of them trying to have sex but something going wrong. At the end LWJ breaks/hurts his ankle really badly on the way to a cabin to have sex in Olympics gear, and then they get married.

B) WWX comes back in a random cultivator's body while LWJ is recovering from the discipline whip, and he sneaks into the Cloud Recesses to learn about A-Yuan. I think the cultivator gave his body up to WWX to punish him, and the curse mark on his arm becomes activated when he's happy, and it activates so badly it nearly cuts his arm off.

So Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen reached immortality and now they are living in present time where everyone has reincarnated. Lan Wangji has custody of Lan Sizhui and I think Lan Jingyi as well but not sure about the latter part. Both of them attend high school where Wei Wuxian is a teacher (I think he just transferred to the school but am not sure). Jin Ling also attends school with them. I'm looking for match-making fic where Jin Zixuan (tired of wwx constantly interrupting family time with his wife and newly born son) decides the best way to get him out of the way is to matchmake him with someone. I think he tries Nie Mingjue mainly, because they have similar interests, etc.

Jiang Cheng also gets roped in, but he thinks Jin Zixuan is nuts the whole time. NMJ thinks Wei wuxian is definitely flirting with him at some point because his muscles get complimented? Lan Xichen has to reassure him that "no, he is just like that".

It's a comedy of errors mainly, because LWJ and WWX definitely have something going on between them, and it ends with them running off with horses to elope into the sunset or smth. Jiang Yanli doesn't know her husband's matchmaking scheme, but she does know about wwx and lwj and helps them elope at the end.

Pretty sure it was a short fic, ignores canon and occurs in a what-if scenario where the whole burial mounds situation didn't happen.

novel is a. strong word for it. but it will hopefully a thing at..... some point! i have a vague-ish plan - the focus is heavily on memory and legacy and (obviously) loyalty/his relationship with octavian and the imperial family BUT because i've been cursed with awful modern au thoughts by attis its also going to run as two parallel timelines that eventually bleed into each other. there's lots of ghosts and lots of hauntings (of course) and statues and lakes and buildings. and gay people also.

i will probably never end up finishing it bc in all my like. decade+ of writing i have finished a grand total of one longer-form story. but! it is definitely a thing! i have a very small amount of actual text written for it! stuff relating to it will be under my 'wip relevant' tag if youre curious :D

Shepard stares daggers at his tray, stabs at the potato heap, then jerks his hand back like it stung him. He inhales deep through his nose before focusing on Garrus. “Korlus. We reach orbit tomorrow afternoon. I want the two of you and our newest recruit down there with me. Taylor, how are things coming with unfucking the heat sinks on my guns?”

Taylor shifts uncomfortably in his seat. “About that. Ah, look, Commander, I know the detachable heat sink is new to you—”

Shepard’s expression darkens. “I saw plenty of it with the geth.”

“Yes, sir, but there’s a reason all the weapons manufacturers are following the geth’s lead with thermal clips. It’s a more efficient system.”

Shepard sets the fork down with the air of someone deliberately ejecting an ammo block. “I don’t recall the geth ever getting the better of me.”

“Well, they got the better of everyone on Eden Prime, didn’t they?”  

Garrus and Joker exchange glances.

Uh oh.

Shepard glowers. Taylor mistakes it as an invitation to continue.

“Look, it’s simple force multiplication. I can change out a thermal clip and get back to firing in a fraction of the time it takes for an internal sink to vent. Can’t shrug off that kind of edge when ground skirmishes are won by whoever puts more bullets downfield.”

Garrus gives Shepard an uneasy look. He’s been hearing the debate over thermal clips for so long it hadn’t occurred to him Shepard missed all of it.

Within six months of the attack, C-Sec had struck a deal with Elkoss Combine to replace every weapon in their arsenal with detachable heatsink models over the next three years. A military as large as the Hierarchy would be lucky if they could cycle out the internal sinks within a decade, and Garrus imagines the Alliance is in a similar position. Too expensive, too much of a logistical nightmare. But smaller, well-funded private militias like Cerberus have already thrown billions of credits at it, and weapons manufacturers are making a killing. Half the weapons showing up on Omega are high-tech rifles whose only sin is an internal heat sink. Gianna Parisini is probably having the time of her life with the massive spike in corporate espionage from everyone clamoring to corner the market.

But Taylor’s right. Time spent waiting for a sink to vent is time for kinetic shields to recharge. Hell, Shepard had even said as much in one of their first debriefs after Therum, and Garrus had yet to see a gun Shepard couldn’t figure out and master on the fly. He might be the most adaptable person Garrus has ever met.

What’s going on here?

“Thank you for the lesson on small arms combat,” Shepard says, fist clenched so tight his knuckles are white. “But every fucking weapon on this ship has a proprietary sink, which creates a logistics nightmare on the ground. I’m not getting caught with a gun that won’t fire because I ran out of clips.”

Taylor makes a frustrated sound. “What are the odds of that? With dreadnoughts and orbital bombardments, infantry wars are a thing of the past. You know better than anyone ground insertions are about speed and precision. Everything we’re doing on this ship is get in, get out. When’s the last time you needed to recharge your suit battery or replace an ammo block in the field?”

“Torfan."

No one speaks. Joker stands a fork in his protein, covers it in the potatoes, and scoops some green-colored vegetable balls on top.

Eventually, Taylor sighs. “Yeah. Well.”

Shepard leans forward. “You wanted me exactly how I was, except you keep trying to fuck with who I was. So let’s refocus our efforts, shall we? Tomorrow I am dropping on Korlus with a gun that has an internal sink, and if you can’t make that happen I’ll find someone who can.”

i have... such a strange little relationship with this wip. it's literally a complete 40k draft that i abandoned after the first round of edits, then returned to to edit a bit more after a year or so, then returned to AGAIN to poke at after another year or two... literally i have always planned to post it eventually, i don't know what keeps Happening!! (actually, i'm looking back at it now and most of the sidebar comments i have marked just say shit like "hmmm" or "fix this" with ZERO specification of what to do differently so. probably That keeps happening.)

anyway, the process of writing this fic was primarily an exercise in split pov, distinguishing narrative voices, and intertwining storylines for different characters! it was a lot of fun, i have never written anything else quite like it. the premise is that newt, hermann, raleigh, mako, and tendo all meet in an airport when their flights are delayed, and thus newt/hermann and mako/raleigh romances are born. plus tendo is there ❤️ it features some truly impressive run-on sentences from newt's pov, five bilinguals who have varying degrees of beef with each other's accents, and my darling dear underhyped fave, caitlin lightcap (in small doses). here, have a teaser:

“What held you up out there? Dr. Gottlieb finally hit you with that cane? He was lookin’ like he wanted to all night.” “Hit me? No way,” Newt scoffs. “Try hit on me. The dude loves me. I mean, that’s understandable, I’ve pretty much reached the maximum level of awesomeness that you can pack into one human, but no, dude, trust me, beneath all that prickly pseudo-British exterior?” Newt wiggles his eyebrows. “He’s into it. Totally.” Tendo studies him. “You ever take an intro psych class, Newt?” “‘Course I did, I got a degree in neuro, dude.” That class had been kind of weird, given that half the time they were discussing things which Newt had been diagnosed with, but still interesting. As for its relevance to this conversation— “Then you should know when I’m talking about when I say: that, my friend, is called projection.”  Tendo’s a quick son of a bitch, Newt has to give him that. “Whatever,” Newt says airily. “It’ll be true one day. I can make that happen. Just you wait.” “In your dreams, Geiszler.” Newt pulls his laptop out of his backpack. He can’t use it until they reach cruising altitude, because stupid arbitrary rules are stupid, but he’s got homework to do if he wants to prove Tendo wrong. And he intends to do it. Fifty minutes later, he’s reading through a research paper by Dr. Hermann Gottlieb, and my, my, my. This is some well-written shit. Newt disagrees with half of it.  This is going to be so much fun.

New OC(s) Idea(s)

Heads up, @theprissythumbelina , GRR Martin's at it again.

So, I was having my dinner and watching the latest Drachinifel, when suddenly he mentioned something that caught my eye; namely, signals intelligence.

Being an absolute fucking nerd, I've had and exercised far more interest in signals / military intelligence than is probably happy, but as topics go it's a hard one to apply in any writing. Worldbuilding-wise, though, I've had a lot of fun with it.

Anyhow, as usual, my answer to the question of how to show off some niche worldbuilding topic is to create an entirely new character and supporting cast around it. In this case, without even being certain which of my WIP's I'd like it them to exist in. [Though I am leaning towards Terror Immortal, or perhaps The Commonwealth Calls.]

The idea is, interspersed between 'normal' scenes / POVs covering the rest of the conflict, I'll cut to scenes lasting a few paragraphs at most which will feature our 'SIGINT POV' character going over some brief, message, piece of intel., etc., and explaining its significance. Importantly, whatever they're going over's going to have some relevance to the specific events I'm developing in the 'fighting' text, and in some cases a keen reader will recognise their intelligence feeding into the higher-up decisions which eventually trickle down to affect the lives and battles of the members of the cast doing the fighting and dying.

Over the course of the WIP / Narrative in question, it's my hope that the reader will gain a sort of trust in SIGINT guy and his observations, and indeed I hope gradual and drawn own exposition on his character and personality might even make them like him. All this serves as a lead up to a big ol' Plot Twist.tm that I'm thinking will play out towards the end of whatever specific 'Book' this character will debut in. Basically, they'll get it wrong. In some small way, in some crucial way, this most skilled analyst of intelligence will make the wrong call at the wrong time, and decisions will be made off of this evidence, and without even knowing it someone, somewhere will die because of this singular slip up.

My name is PhoenixRadiant, though I go by Fen and will respond to "you" just like anyone else. Not my actual name because I'm a private person and the internet lets me maintain that, especially Tumblr. I'm a Reformed Baptist Christian (we do exist, reformed does not mean Presbyterian) and of a classically cynical philosophical persuasion. 2. What’s your total ao3 word count?

269,795. Almost half of that is one fic though, lol

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Currently most active in Trigun, perennially/intermittently active in Nirvana in Fire, currently dormant in CritRole, and hiatus in Sandman. Interests wax and wane! And who knows what I'll discover next? Not me, that's for sure.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

Mate, I write mostly gen fic. I'm not here for the numbers. A kudos means that a whole human being with thoughts of their own spent some of their precious moments on God's green earth reading my thoughts and kinda liked 'em.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do! ...........eventually. sometimes several years later. And why? I dunno, it just feels polite? Also human connection, even digital. That's a thing.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably Inference, but that's just because of the canonical main character death. Visitation Hours is bleak in implication, not in actual ending. My definition of "angst" does not always align with readers' definitions of "angst," which can be hilarious for me when I get weepy reactions on something I thought was relatively lighthearted.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I do 'equivocal' better than 'happy,' I think? The goal is emotional resolution or emotional discordance. Happy's incidental, which almost certainly means I don't write a lot of happy endings by the standard measure.

8. Do you get hate on fic?

Not hate so much as people who are belligerently confused? I get some bonkers fucking comments and anons sometimes, which I delete, a smattering of entitled weirdos, and a sprinkle of (typically unintentionally) back-handed compliments.

9. Do you write smut?

Nope! Suggestive, sure. Dirty language, if relevant. Implication, when called-for. Smut? Nope.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I have written a short series of crossovers between Machineries of Empire and Nirvana in Fire. Haven't written any since, but they're not off the table.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yup! More plagiarism than theft in entirety, though. At least once had someone lift a whole scene, dialogue, phrasing and all, and claim it as their own with obvious intent to get mileage without credit. And I have happened upon recognizable lines from my fics in other fics enough times to have several nickles. I get miffed about the latter, but the charitable assumption is just that it was a phrase fresh in their minds/recalled without association.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Into Russian, I think? Godspeed, fanfic translators, the strongest of us all.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I've co-written original stuff before, but I don't think I could ever do it again, original or fanfic. Not that it wasn't a pleasant experience at the time!

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?

I don't have a favorite ship, but I do have a favorite dynamic, which is the mutual "you're the only motherfucker in this club who can handle me" a la that one Lorde tweet. The buckwildness has to be compatible, preferably complimentary. We're not talking enabling, though that can be part of it. It doesn't even have to be a ship. That grok/trust combination.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?

Look, I don't know what WIPs are going to get finished until I post them, okay?

16. What are your writing strengths?

I like character studies! And I feel like I am getting better at limited points of view, though they keep wanting to slide omniscient.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Same-hatting with @chubsthehamster here: plot. What the characters are doing in any given story is largely just to break up the dialogue and introspection. Things happening? They don't, sorry. Gotta work on this.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

For straight dialogue in another language, it's still dialogue, and it still has to serve the story, so if it makes more sense to drop it untranslated, drop it untranslated. If the reader needs to know what's being said, italics or paraphrase.

For mixed languages, it's totally situational and depends on the character, too. Did they just get back from an exchange program in France and they're insufferable about it? Are they a very new second language speaker? Are they an expat? A bilingual parent who wants their child to grow up speaking one language preferentially? An academic, or someone who learned their whole vocabulary based on a single vocation (ie: a doctor who can get by using Spanish in a medical scenario but not outside the clinic)? All of that is going to influence their speech pattern.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Just as interests wax and wane, I like some fics more and some less, and today's favorite could be tomorrow's cringe.

I will not talk about the funny gamer men on here but uh catboy fic (ie My Teammate Turned into a Cat?!) started as "what if Draisaitl turned into a cat sometimes" and has quickly turned into "hey what would the PR and hockey ops response be to a player literally turning into a cat" and also "hey what's the horror of people changing in ways that are unknowable to you" so it's going well! The horrors of bureaucracy, mostly.

Nonetheless here's a TikTok/IG Reel I thought one of the content producers would make as a sick joke a few weeks into the curse manifesting:

The players are walking back to the locker room, still in gear, presumably after a practice. A text caption reading, “If you could be any animal, what animal would you be?” is displayed on the screen as the video rapidly cuts to the players responding, either off the ice or in the locker room.

McLeod grins, looks at the person holding up the phone camera.

“Uh, definitely a dog.”

Nugent-Hopkins looks mildly taken aback but is smiling.

“I’m not sure, actually. Maybe a wolf?”

Someone calls out something unintelligible from off camera. The camera spins and zooms in to catch Hyman laughing.

“I’m not a horse, you —”

Hyman looks thoughtful and affable, as if giving the question serious thought.

“I think I’d be a dog. A Golden Retriever, maybe? They’re pretty smart and loyal.”

Kulak looks mildly amused.

“Some type of dog.”

Holloway laughs loudly.

“I think being a dog would be great.”

Desharnais shrugs, before turning to someone off camera.

“A bear? A bear’s cool, right?”

The response is muffled, but Desharnais laughs anyway and faces the camera again.

“Stu says moose. I’ll go with that.”

Skinner smiles politely at the camera.

“I think I’d like to be a cat. They seem pretty smart and quick.”

McDavid lets out a little media chuckle and runs a hand through his hair.

“Uh… I don’t know. Probably a dog. … What breed? I’m not sure. Maybe I’d just look like Lenny, or something.”

Draisaitl stares at the camera, stone-faced. After a couple of seconds he grits out —

“A cat. I guess.”

Bouch/Clouder Academia AU is basically omg they were roommates doing graduate degrees. It's part of a much broader alternate universe where basically any NHL player that is funny to me is now an academic. I have read so many papers on topics that are not relevant to my own field of study.

Bouch is studying sports medicine as an MSc. He's looking at resiliency and recovery in professional sports and aims to be a physiotherapist after he graduates. He was set to go pro but had a spree of injuries and rough accidents on the ice before and during his stint in the OHL and his drafting prospects plummeted.

Clouder's a PoliSci/Media Studies MA studying how nationalistic narratives are built through sports coverage. He's the only one of three sons that is not playing pro hockey and he has no problems because of it at all :) He's still figuring out what he wants to do with his life.

The fic is mostly following them in their first year at their local university and how they navigate each other and the hockey-related problems they're both dealing with. It went shippy/slowburn "mostly" by accident, but whatever. They'll figure it out eventually. Here's a random snippet:

The holidays seem to have started a pattern. Not enough to be a constant, but enough to know it’s always there, a safety net in the back of his mind. Some days, Ryan will hang up from a family call the day after an impressive game from Michael and there’s a case study that needs to be proofread, immediately; some days, Evan’s gritting his teeth going down the stairwell and it’s easy to duck under his arm, take some pressure off his knee. A scar for a story, one regret for another.

Back and forth, like a passing drill.

It’s not weird, or gay, or whatever bullshit Jungian term Stu is now using for their friendship just because he got caught asking D.R. about painkiller interactions once. It’s open — there’s a comfort there, a familiarity that settles somewhere near Ryan’s sternum and makes it easier to breathe. That’s normal, probably, for a friendship. Quiet reciprocity, which might be the crux of the problem, a fear that he can’t properly describe.

He appreciates those moments where Evan feels comfortable enough to share, to trust in him. Some are easier, a memory of unlucky circumstance with a speedy return. Others — the larger ones, usually, or complications that took him off the ice for months at a time — make it seem like he’d rather pull out his own fingernail than tell. But he does so anyway, stilted and hesitant, and something cold slides down Ryan’s spine every time.

It takes a few more weeks for him to name that feeling guilt, but it’s the closest he’s probably going to get.

so short answer is that i don't have any full chapters out yet but a bunch of snippets(mostly in wip weekend/wednesdays) and rambles are out there under #devon's steve henderson au

basically any post relevant to this fic is there. i think the wip Wednesday/weekend snippets are in order for the most part and canon compliant for season 2 so they usually have an aside context for where in that timeline they sit. but i don't have any set masterlist in perfect chronological order because they are just snippets from the wip.

(i think theres also "steve henderson au rambles" but they're both used basically the same i think. i just made it originally because for some reason i was scared to make up my own tag with my name in it?? idk anxiety be wild)(i think i might've also posted about it before making the tag? i can try and find any interesting old ones and rb them with the tag)

longer answer is that my steve henderson au is not like officially posted yet, its going to be a long fic that (fingers crossed) will cover from s2 through s4. i probably won't wait until the whole things done before posting but with the way I'm writing theres a ton of jumping around and tweaking and editing so I'm not yet comfortable posting chapters because of how often im going in and changing things. im kinda figuring out my writing process as i go y'know.

i promise that what i have written will get posted eventually, ideally it'll be because I've gotten far enough that I've stopped editing my first chapters. but even if i magically wake up tomorrow never wanting to type another word again I'll still make sure to post what i have, especially since i talk about it a lot on here lol. Ahh, I just love Romance, so I don't know if I can pick a favorite, but Katniss and Peeta from The Hunger Games are who got me into fandom, and they're who I always return to when I'm truly feeling discouraged. Most ships I've written for are a favorite for some facet of them.

15. what’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I have an AC3 AU fic just. Lingering on the hard drive. I do hope to finish this one eventually, but it keeps threatening to be longer and more convoluted than I expected.

16. what are your writing strengths?

I think describing emotion/character dynamics. I get really proud when I figure out the sort of dynamic I want to focus on, and then I can shape the fic around that. I also tend to like my dialogue, especially when I make myself laugh with something kind of cheesy.

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

Definitely plot: I love focusing on characters, and as a result I do not develop plot as much as I'd like to. I think I tend to drag out scenes and sometimes I feel like I'm forcing it to lengthen the story or create some kind of action. I also really like including boring details and when I go back and edit I struggle to keep what's relevant, lol.

18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Even if characters are talking in another language, I usually write in English except for a few words that don't translate well. I was trying to think of situations where I'd write full dialogue in another language and they were all very specific: maybe if it's an important part of the setting or a character's internal conflict. So I guess in those cases I would if I either knew the language well or could ask someone about context, etc. (This actually reminds me of another WIP I don't know if I'll finish, lol.)

I think The Hunger Games, but I never posted any of it. So many talented people in that fandom!!

20. favorite fic you’ve ever written?

Again, probably the care and feeding of lovebirds! It’s such a comfort movie + fic, and I guess that shows in how quickly I wrote it haha. But going back to that one is soothing for me, and I do have more DDLJ fic in the works.

MBS WIP! part 1

So I haven't posted anything for this before other than mentioning that I am working on it, but I'm going to post a kinda outline of the first part here and see what some of you think. (pretty please🥺🥺🥺) Also, I wrote initially before I had read riddle of ages, and as I'm making it relatively canon compliant, I will probably have to adjust some stuff as I go.

Background:

For the first part, the story will be mainly Kate, Milligan, and Moocho -centric, starting after the end of the first book but before the start of The Perilous Journey, and it will be mostly canon compliant.

For time period, I am thinking about making the Emergency analogous to the Recession, and things weren’t stabilized until more regulations were passed on banking and insurance.  People didn’t regain their heads until the Whisperer stopped broadcasting.  In this universe, Curtain is definitely on the side of big business, as well as somewhat of a demagogue.  The man wants to control fake news through his Whisperer, for goodness’ sakes, as well as eventually become the MASTER of all Earth’s regions, so I feel that this is in character.  He and the Ten Men are a fantastic analogue to lobbyists with deep pockets, monopolies, and unscrupulous Big Tech.  Oh this reminds me I need to go on a rant about the symbolism of the Ten Men being businessmen and go into the different items in their briefcases used as weapons because that is FASCINATING.

The second book was written in 2008, so this is not implausible for time period to choose present day.  Now for location, we on this site have avidly discussed where in the world is Stonetown, but I personally headcanon that Stonetown Harbor is somewhere in the Northeast United States.  I won’t go over all of this again, but I think good indicators are names like George Washington, the style of architecture in the town, the frequently rainy and snowy weather, the sharp rocks by the Institute in the first book, and the fact that they sail to Europe on the Shortcut.  Additionally, I favor a town just outside of Boston for the location of Stonetown, so the whole Benedict gang would be located in Massachusetts.  And that would mean Kate and family live a little bit north of Stonetown Harbor, possibly about an hour out in a more rural area, because it is more of a drive to their farm.  Relevant facts later on for my story will be that Massachusetts legalized same-sex marriage in 2004 and was the first U.S. state to do so.

18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I like it, both as a reader and a writer! It can be used well for character flavoring, but is also frequently misused in a way that makes fic harder to read. If it's large chunks of text, especially with plot relevant information, I prefer another indicator that the language has shifted, like italics or a dialogue tag. I think it works best when the author has a reason for it besides "they're speaking another language", like they don't want the readers to understand what's being said, or the character is trying to deceive someone who doesn't speak that language.

Don't take this as a list of how many individual books get written, though, since I've barely a clue as to how I intend on organising these WIPs in their eventual writing like that. Now, going in a semi-chronological order, we have:

Chainbreaker

Probably the most anthology-like of them all, and since it spans five years I've got several short story ideas in mind for this.

Swift Seas And Whirlwinds

Recently, I've been going towards making this a duology. Also, hopefully, the first one which'll get written and published... Somehow. Also, add one for a prequel I have in mind.

The Commonwealth Calls, Terror Immortal, The Snake In The Sandbox

I tend to think of these WIPs as a set, since they're what got me started in the whole writing business, and feature my dear Gustav. Going off the lengths of the conflicts they each represent, I'm thinking 2-4-2 books each?

This accounts for the main series I have in mind, which center around some of the major conflicts I've got so far. For more minor plot lines I've had in mind, some of them include:

Place Of No Honour, which tracks one of the pre-SSAW conflicts I've been meaning to work on

The Journalist Story, which features journalists and press teams in a city tearing itself apart

Various companions for the 'Big Three', which focus on their relevant wars going on in other theatres

A short series following Gustav post-Wars through the eyes of his newly assigned aide de camp

Probably even more short series with Gustav, focusing on his career between the three wars and what he gets up to.

Fanfic Progress Update 151

HEY PEOPLE I'M BACK, WOO! Good news: lots of fics in the horizon. Bad news: they're neither Zelda nor Hazbin. Sorry :D Hope you liked the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, and Agent Stone/Doctor Robotnik ship in particular, because that's what's on the menu for the next while.

I'll be resuming my writing hour and Saturday updates, I'm just doing this one right now so that I can add a link to this blog in the fic I'm about to post very soon and it won't look super awkward.

Current WIPs:

Keep the Cuddles Platonic -challenge

Fandom: Sonic the Hedgehog, movieverse

Summary: Doctor Robotnik is simultaneously touch averse and touch starved, which results in a plan to "get the touching needs over with" in the most efficient way he could think of: cuddles overnight, when he wouldn't be doing anything useful anyway. Agent Stone was not privy to the plan until they arrived at their hotel room for their business trip.

Progress: First chapter is finished and will be posted within an hour from posting this, I'm just giving it a quick last minute proofread. Second chapter is finished, will be posted next Thursday - there will be a sneak-peek in the next progress update. Third - and last - chapter not started yet, but I will have two weeks to write it, so worry not.

I'm Signing in the Drain

Fandom: Sonic the Hedgehog, movieverse

Summary (temporary): Not many people know this, but Doctor Robotnik is actually deaf and uses hearing aids to make up for it. Agent Stone does not know this, he just kind of assumes he's told to learn sign language upon being assigned for some other, mysterious reasons, and not as a "just in case" measure.

Progress: This fic will have three chapters (maybe four if the fic decides to unexpectedly go wild). The second chapter is almost done, despite the first one not being written yet. I'm actually not sure if this fic will end up being Stobotnik aside from Stone being Big Gay as usual. We'll see what the third chapter will bring once I get there (tho I'll be writing the first chapter first, lol.)

Fandom: Sonic the Hedgehog, movieverse

Summary (temporary):

Wanted: a yesman who is capable of operating an espresso machine, has at least a higher IQ than your average amoeba, and is willing to put work before having a personal life, or indeed a life, period. The extra in your pathetic paycheck is good, but the strain in your psyche will make up for the positives. Forfeit your basic human rights and apply today if this sounds like you. 

Maybe it said something about Agent Stone - and probably not good things - that the poster in the cafeteria's pin board piqued his interest more than any of his official assignments had for a good long while. 

Dr. Robotnik, huh?

Progress: Listen. This one will be a massive longfic. Not Adventure Gone Mini massive (I pray), but at least as long as Afterlife. So like, probably around 20 chapters. It's a bit hard to estimate at this point, so the number is subject to change. My writing hours will be devoted to this fic.

Now for the actual progress. I have the first two chapters written (first is a prologue, so about half the length) and the third one is halfway done. I also have two halfway written chapters that don't yet know their exact placement within the fic (somewhere in the early middle, but like, are they chapters 5 and 6 or 7 and 8, nobody knows). I also have a rough map of the doctor's lab drawn, because I need to keep track of their movements. Send help.

posted first chapter of a wip i've been working on in the ol' AU timeline, setting stuff up mostly...

i'll make a real post eventually (probably when i finish it lol so who knows when that'll be, could be a few weeks, could be a few months 🤷 i have a lot of random stuff written out and a lot of the main plot... not. lol)

will update any warnings as i go but

spoilers/warning in advance:

this fic will deal with sexual harassment and assault at certain points wrt both miles warren's fixation on gwen, as well as a part of peter's childhood (drawing from Spider-Man and Power Pack #1 which i know can be a contentious comic but it has been tied into this timeline from the start and remains thematically relevant)

as well as underage drinking/alcoholism and depression with flash, but that's nothing new here.

peter will also have a minor breakdown in april (so not in chapter 1 lol, would be ch 3 probably) that kind of encompasses all of his issues around not just all the above but also his self worth and guilt complex surrounding the deaths of his parents and uncle, but, like i said that's in april in-universe so won't be up for a bit...

he's kind of a neurotic mess but what else is new lol

also will be some (canon-typical) violence esp once i get baldy over here into play but again: what else is new 😂

(note: i do not plan for anything sexually explicit in this fic, at least not in the sexual assault realm, but obviously there are only so many ways you can dance around something before you eventually have to sit down and say it. i will do my best to handle it thoughtfully though.)
