I can just tell you’re tired of the music recommendations but when there’s so many fire bans, you probably haven’t heard I need to share this. Forever ends here they are from Australia and even have a song with the lead singer of yours truly so I have a feeling you could get down with them.
honestly,, yeah, a little 😅 not that it's bad that folks are passionate about their underrated favs or whatnot, far from it, but sometimes I get so many at once that A) No one sticks out above any other and even if I like them they all kinda blur and fade from memory and B) having to check them all out can end up feeling kinda more like a chore, rather than discovering new music for the joy of it
But still, I'll give their song with Yours Truly a go and tell ya what I think!
Oh, hello it's Aussie Mayday Parade 😂 ngl, I wasn't expecting a piano ballad, vibing though. Oh damn, it's no surprise but Mik's vocals are on point.
Checked out a few of their other songs too for good measure, v nice oldschool ATL vibes coming through too! For sure, I can definitely get down with these guys
Cheers for the rec!

this is pretty late in response to your “what’s your favorite..” reblog, but what’s your favorite song from each ATL record?
let me tell you anon it is NEVER too late to talk about my favorite atl songs 🥲
i guess we’ll go all the way back.
the party scene: if we take away songs that are also on PSOSU i’m going with noel which i feel like is underrated but when i was 16 “our chemistry is kerosene” was my away message probably more than once and i 100% had no idea what this song was about.
put up or shut up: lullabies lullabies lullabies. i have always loved this song i will always love this song old performances of it will always make me weep.
so wrong it’s right: ok this is where it starts just being like choosing a favorite child but honestly maybe remembering sunday? i am surprising even myself by saying this (six feet has a special place in my heart) but yeah that song still hits me in the feels as much as it did the first time.
nothing personal: this holds so many of my favorite atl songs (damned if i do ya, stella) but it is between keep the change and a party song and i think it has to be a party song. i don’t really have any explanation except i love to sing “nothing more than a casual fuck, isn’t that just how we operate?”
dirty work: this one has changed so much over the years as i’ve relistened to this album. in the end though it’s an easy heroes. boy oh boy this might be my favorite atl song of all???? definitely top 3. THE BRIDGE???!!!!! but honorable mention is return the favor for the obvious demi lovato references just simply iconic. AND merry christmas kiss my ass.
don’t panic: this used to be an easy the irony of choking on a lifesaver but i think maybe now it’s thanks to you? maybe a tie between the two but i’m not going to have a cop out and pick two so i’m going with thanks to you.
future hearts: ok this one also has so many of my favorite atl songs (runaways, missing you) but it’s tidal waves. once again i am a sucker for the BRIDGE alex gaskarth.
last young renegade: once AGAIN so many good songs (nightmares, afterglow) but it’s dark side of your room. i know there’s really nothing special about this song but BOY DO I LOVE IT!!!!
wake up sunshine: as my favorite atl album this should be the hardest but while it is my favorite cohesive album it actually doesn’t have a lot of my favorite SONGS (idk if that makes sense) but my favorite is easily basement noise. come on. cried when i heard it for the first time. pulls at my heart strings every time. close call with some kind of disaster and pretty venom though.

I would LOVE to see your re-did personal refernce album lists for right now and overall. fall out boy slaps and 5sos is lucky they rank as highly for both of us bc fall out boy is just. the best
oh boy you asked and I sure do like talking about my opinions on music so
First of all let’s talk about the three that show up in both lists, just to get that out  of the way:
These three albums will just always be my favorites, at any given moment.  I could listen to them at almost any time
Youngblood by 5sos: I love this album so much, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why.  Nothing about it particularly stands out, but I listen to it all the time and it’s so so so good.  I love the vocal performance (except for a few instances where I really wish Luke enunciated a bit more), I love the instrumental performance, and I do feel like it’s a relatively cohesive album as far as vibe goes.  They picked the correct colors for it, and even the songs that I’m not a huge fan of I feel still contribute well to the album as a whole.
Save Rock and Roll by Fall Out Boy: Fall Out Boy is and always will be my favorite band.  This is a very nostalgic album for me, because it’s the album that got me in to Fall Out Boy, but it’s just got some absolute killer songs, and I like how it starts with “The Phoenix” and ends with “Save Rock and Roll” (with an ELTON JOHN FEATURE like....... it blows my mind).  I feel like I’m coming home every time I listen to Fall Out Boy but most especially with this album.
Infinity on High by Fall Out Boy: again, I just love FOB a bonkers amount, and I think objectively this is one of their best albums.  There is not one song on here that I would skip.  It gets bonus points for “You’re Crashing, But You’re No Wave” which is their most underrated song, and all of the other ones are equally as good.  It feels cohesive while each song remains unique.
Now on to the list for my best albums of all time:
Tumblr media
The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance: I genuinely believe that this album is objectively the best album of the 2000s.  MCR is full of really, really talented musicians, and every time I listen to this album I find some little musical riff or tidbit that I’m discovering for the first time.  The underlying theme of death and regret is unique and they do so much with it!!!  Songs are interesting and not repetitive, while still being catchy.  The energy of the album is insane, and it carries almost all the way through without any dips or duds.  Lyrical content is 10/10, musical content is 10/10, entire album is amazing.
Night Visions by Imagine Dragons: when I was in like 9th grade this album would not leave my CD player I would just come home and go up to my room and turn on the CD as I do my homework.  So this one also has a lot of nostalgia, but tbh Imagine Dragons is just a great band and this is just a great album.  Can’t pinpoint why but it’s just the truth.
California 37 by Train: this one also is a very nostalgic album, because I used to be a super super big fan of Train, but tbh this album is one of my go-to albums for washing dishes or when I’m in the car with my family and they won’t let me play one of my current favorites.  It’s funky! The songs are nice!  “Drive By” and “When the Fog Rolls In” are genuinely two really good songs in my opinion, and “Mermaid” and “50 Ways to Say Goodbye” are so fun!!!
Collide With the Sky by Pierce the Veil: This is a very cathartic album.  it’s got some great songs on it, it feels cohesive, that darling you’ll be okay in “Hold On ‘Till May” feels like a sigh of relief after the journey of the album and the emotion and screaming
honorable mention: I almost put Harry Styles by Harry Styles instead of Collide With the Sky, because it’s also a killer album.  The running theme of longing for communication is ace, I love how gentle it is and then how there are some bangers on it, and it felt like such a genuine, authentic album.
Now on to my best albums of right now:
Tumblr media
Neotheater by AJR: As far as albums go, this is such a great example of how albums are meant to be made, which is absolutely delightful for me because I think a lot of people have lost the art of the album.  Like, in order to get the full experience you have to listen to the full thing, specifically in order, because the songs each sample each other and then you get the full journey from “Next Up Forever” to “Finale” (and the fact that those are the bookends and they all drop the name of the album and they have the choir in them I could talk about those two songs for hours probably!!!!).  The theme of fear of growing up and you get the transition from being afraid of it to looking forward and feeling ready for what comes!!!!! as a senior in college I relate so hard. unfortunately sometimes some of the songs don’t hit right at all times, which is why this one is not on my top 7 of all time list :(
Wake Up, Sunshine by All Time Low: this is the perfect album for where ATL is at right now.  The music is a skillful blend of their old sound and new musical developments, the songs are all so fun, it feels mature while still being authentic, do not get me started on Basement Noise I WILL cry that is a threat!  “Trouble Is” is one of their best songs like there’s genius behind that!!! And not to be divisive but “Pretty Venom (Interlude)” is my favorite off the album and I approve of where it is placed on the album.  I think it’s a nice little breath and break within the high energy of the rest of the album so you can recharge for the rest of it, and I think “Monsters” leads right into it thematically.  They really outdid themselves with this album.
Folklore by Taylor Swift: this is just a Mood a Vibe she really did something here!  her lyrics are very good, I love how important the idea of stories are to this album and how each song is a snapshot of a different story (or a different perspective).  it’s a really pleasant listen
Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers: I am going to be honest this was just me throwing a dart at a few things I’ve recently listened to, and there are a lot of other albums that could go in this spot.  However, I have been listening to songs off of Punisher a lot lately and it’s got me feeling some type of way, like no one will ever fully understand me yet Phoebe does.
honorable mentions: as I said, lots of albums could have been #7 right now, so I’m giving a shout out to Future Hearts by All Time Low, the Hadestown Original Broadway Cast Recording, Boreas by the Oh Hellos (even though that’s just an EP).
I did this while talking on the phone to my family so it may not be as coherent as I would have liked but here are the lists and some explanations

All Time Low 'Wake Up Sunshine'
To say that 2017’s ‘Last Young Renegade’ was divisive, is something of an understatement. No-one should begrudge a band for pushing their boundaries, and exploring a sound that’s important to them. This is precisely what All Time Low did with renegade; pursuing an EDM/synth-pop sound, at the expense of the pop-punk that had made their name. Sure they did it well, but it was such a departure that many ATL fans couldn’t reconcile this sound with the band’s previous body of work. The band’s fan-base was still nothing to sniff at, but it’d be very naive to suggest that they didn’t shed a few fans with the release of ‘Last Young Renegade’. ‘Wake Up Sunshine’ comes at the end of a relatively long time of All Time Low inactivity. Aside from two small show’s in London and Leeds last month, the band hasn’t performed live since Slam Dunk Festival 2019. In the interim, Alex Gaskarth formed a synth-pop duo with pop-punk legend Mark Hoppus, and Jack Bakarat exorcised his emotional demons with his own side-project; Who Hurt You, with singer-songwriter Kevin Fisher. A new album from All Time Low was the last thing many expected at this time. What is also a surprise-for fans of all eras of All Time Low-is just how good this album is. When announcing ‘Wake Up Sunshine’ All Time Low stated that ‘The Young Renegades are no more...Reintroducing your favorite disaster, All Time Low.’ And this-more than anything-sums up the sound on the record. This album sees All Time Low returning from hiatus, so seize their crown as the kings of pop-punk. Sure, there are some synthy nods to ‘Last Young Renegades’ here, and a knowing wink to ‘Put Up or Shut Up’ there, but this album is a unique beast in the All Time Low back catalogue. Sonically, it’s closest relative is probably ‘Don’t Panic’, but thematically this is something all of its own. All Time Low have taken the last few years to reflect on life, growing up, and friendship to produce an album that is as confident as it is introverted, and as nostalgic as it is contemporary. The songs are a collection of bombastic slabs of pop-punk, and at first glance are as brash as that description seems. However, the lyrics reflect a period of self-reflection for all members of the band. “I’ve sung this song a thousand times” from ‘Some Kind of Disaster’ shows a level of awareness that only a career in the industry and genre can provide. While there are flashes of the old Blink-182-esque frat humour-“lyrics such as “If I said I want your body, would you hold it against me?” From ‘’Sleeping In’, most of the lyrics are more mature and nuanced in nature. ‘Melancholy Kaleidoscope’ Starts off as a standard pop-punk feel-good number: It even resembles the classic All Time Low number ‘Coffee Shop Soundtrack’. However, the lyrics reflect the anxiety of the performer “Can’t be 100, if you’re only giving 95”-clearly, the worry that an audience won’t care if the band is giving anything less than 100% persists with the band, even though their career spans almost two decades at this stage. ‘Trouble Is’ and ‘Wake Up’ sunshine are stripped down pop-punk bangers, and will bring fans alienated by ‘Last Young Renegade’ right back into the fold.
Tumblr media
While there are a few deviations here and there;  ‘Pretty Venom’ and ‘Monsters’ are heavily produced numbers, that come close to ‘Renegade’ in all its pomp; these are very much the exceptions rather than the rule. The album’s highlight is almost certainly ‘Favorite Place’; a lament of a failed relationship. However, this is again delivered with a knowing wink, as frontman Gaskarth acknowledges “You’re everything I love about the things I hate in me.” This is far from the thinly veiled misogyny that intertwines a sizeable portion of pop-punk lyrics. This is the admissions of one’s culpability in the breakdown of a relationship, while looking back at the good times. Musically, Bakarat and Gaskarth’s twin guitars deliver power-chords, as brilliantly as they’ve always done, but they’ve certainly kept hold of their effects pedals, and this is to the album’s credit, rather than detriment. Underpinned by arguably the most underrated rhythm section in the genre: Rhian Dawson’s drumming is simply superb, and Zack Merrick’s bass playing and backing vocals do an impressive job of keeping the energetic album on track, and provide a heavy groove to tracks such as ‘Clumsy’. While this is a ‘safer’ album than its predecessor, it’s far from a step back in musicality and lyricism. This is a band recognising what they love doing, and this is ultimately an album about that band returning to their roots. As ‘Basement Noise’ makes clear, this is a thank you to the four kids blasting power chords in a Baltimore basement. Proof, if any were needed, you can always go home. 'Wake Up Sunshine' is out now via Fueled by Ramen

9 favourite albums tag.
i was tagged by my wife @baratkat to do this so obv i had to, also this seemed fun. these aren’t in any order coz that would be actually impossible.
1. Nothing Personal - All Time Low this album is so greatly important to me because it’s the first atl album release i got to experience and i remember making my mam take me straight to the shop to get it, and we were somewhat shocked it was even there because idk atl just wasn’t that well known at the time but i was so excited and i made my mam play them in the car and it’s kinda like my child like nothing personal is my first atl love
2. Lemonade - Beyonce this almost didn’t make my list coz i had a jonas brothers’ album on here ahahah but this album, especially the video version with beyonce’s interludes, means so much to me and it’s so powerful and it truly helped me get through a really hard time in my life
3. The Heist - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis this is such a good fucking debut album, macklemore is one of the most underrated rappers who writes such amazing and deep and poetic lyrics (as well as amazing jams) and i just fell in love with him because of this album
4. Take Care - Drake i mean i’m a drake hoe so obv he was gonna be on here but this album is so fucking good dude, i remember when it came out and i would put a cd player outside the bathroom door just so i could listen to it in the bath (i had a crappy phone at the time ahahah) so yeah i love this album so much and i was lucky enough to see a lot of it performed live on his tour for it. hands down the best drake album out there and quite possibly my favourite album EVER
5. Don’t Panic: It’s Longer Now - All Time Low this album just feels so undoubtedly all time low, i remember the hype around this coming out being so fucking exciting and it truly didn’t disappoint. it’s probably my fave atl album tbh, like i love nothing personal for sentimental reasons, but don’t panic is such an amazing album, lyrically and musically
6. Magna Carter Holy Grail - Jay-Z this is an amazing album tbh, the only jay album i’ve ever listened to where i loved every single song and i had this on repeat for months and it’s just been residing in my faves list ever since
7. Hold Me Down - You Me At Six this album is just amazing, every song is great and it just reminds me of my childhood, like i discovered ymas through atl and i remember seeing their album in hmv and being so excited coz, again, ymas weren’t big at the time and idk i just really fucking love this album it’s undeniably amazing
8. If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late - Drake this is technically a mixtape but it’s filled with absolute bangers and idk i just remember not even knowing it had came out and being so surprised by how good it was like this is better than some of his actual studio albums in my opinion and AHHH i just want more content from him like this - totally raw and hard but also soft when it needs to be, amazing ily drake
9. Save Rock and Roll - Fall Out Boy i’ve honestly never really been big into fob but this album was literally my LIFE for a whole summer, i remember when me and my friends would go for walks i would always borrow my best friend at the time’s ipod and listen to this album on repeat and it just brings me back to those times which is somewhat bittersweet but this album is just such a good listen
that was really fucking hard tbh ahahaha, anyway i’m gonna tag some cuties who are always nice to me @mcrswsptv-trash @heres-to-suicidal-thoughts @shaddyhatter @poppunkedt - and anyone else who wants to do it and tag me!!
