HI OKAY SO. in this au nicky quit soccer like right after they got back from the realms for the first time (lark holds a grudge even when they're almost 18 despite the fact that everyone else also quit) and he takes up hockey and ice skating. it's important to know that nicky is a system in this (nick likes hockey and nicholas likes ice skating). mattie works at the ice skating rink and is friends w nicky bc tiefling buddies yk (half demon = tiefling kinda) . they hide their nonhuman features behind illusion magic ofc

mattie ended up being midwestern fully by accident because I was writing them and not consciously making the choice to make them Not Midwestern like I was with sparrow and nicky so it just . happened [my parents are from the midwest and I am not but most of my habits and speech patterns are from there]

when they were choosing a new name to go by (hashtag trans) they decided to go by mattie and let people assume it's short for matthew or something so that they can tell people it's actually short for mattress (same reason why my val is from valley [lily of the valley] and not valentine. funnee)

also they have adhd (unmedicated) because I do too and I like projecting onto my own characters <3
