It's been a year and I fianlly got around to working on and finishing my Xie Lian poster (at least I'm calling it a poster)

I redrew it uuuuh 3 times before changing around and reworking complete parts of it and it still doens't have a background that I enjoy but hey maybe y'all will like it <3

He's a lil note sheet on the appearances here i guess, with my semi-chaotic notes.

Also, although I drew them together, i'm going to post the the matching Hua Cheng one seperately then maybe tac the other onto it if that makes sense. We'll see

Feng Xin and Xie Lian remember their childhood with warmth, as a time when they didn't have so many worries.

Mu Qing prefers not to think about his yearly years at all.

The same events evoke completely different emotions in them. Feng Xin and Xie Lian talking about the luxurious feasts in the royal palace feel nostalgic and Mu Qing thinks about the greasy looks that some noble guests would throw at the pretty servant, sleepless nights spent washing the magnificent clothes on which the prince accidentally spilled a drink or dripped sauce and how after barely resting he will prepare the morning outfit for the prince as a day of grueling training awaits them. He remembers the cold tone of the guoshi, tryings to slip away from a group of bullies and work work again.

He recalls waiting for the week to end so he can return to his poor little house and feel the warmth he's been dreaming of as he hugs his mum tight.

The curtains by Xie Lian's balcony window wave from the gust of wind, and the breeze chills him to the bone. But he doesn't care; not when he knows what that means.

They have a deal- every few nights, during the worst of the nights cold, while some of the other guards are searching around different parts of the castle grounds, or warming up in the guards' quarters, one lone guard will climb his way up to the Princes' balcony, and sit with him for a while. Until the moon is clear in the sky, and their need for the others' laugh has subsided. Not that it ever fully will, of course. There's always a part of them that needs the others' laugh, their smile, or kiss, but there are times when it builds up, and becomes nearly unbearable. On those nights, they meet.

The night is much colder now that Xie Lian is standing in it, but he would bury himself in snow, and die of hypothermia if it means he got to see that look just one more time. The breeze is much easier to handle.

The way the man's eye lights up, the tightness of his lips with how big his smile is, the small bit of red on his face that despite the cold, Xie Lian knows is not from it.

He knows because he is the same. The red on his face is not from the cold, either.

Xie Lian forgoes his grip on the blanket around his shoulders in favor of grabbing the man's hands, and helping him onto the floor. Their hands don't separate, and neither do they. Their kiss is almost entirely teeth- it'd be nearly impossible to kiss properly with the amount they're smiling, but that doesn't matter.

All that matters is the fact they are together.

I don't mind hualian's pretty classic dynamic because it just hits different you know. Hua Cheng has been a punching bag nobody wanted never strong enough to protect his idol and Xie Lian had all of the world's problems placed on his shoulders since day one and then been blamed for being too weak to help every single person and having basic needs too. So let HC be a daddydom and XL a pampered whiny omega in the relationship idgaf.

Like Xie Lian laughed internally at Xiao Ying's appearance several times even when she was dying, said that Yin Yu looked like a passerby (he was absolutely sure that his appearance was fake cuz it would be a perfect disguise 😭), mocked Qi Rong (800 years and failed to become a supreme and such), said that Mu Qing would be capable of spitting in someone's glass (but not poisoning, understand 🙏), meanwhile he almost had a heart attack seeing Hua Cheng's true appearance, he was so handsome for him.

Please he is a 100% toxic passive.

AU where during the year without Hua Cheng, Xie lian made a bunch of friends— aka people started showing up to his house to hang out.

In actuality, they all want to take care of him because they’re worried he will be sad waiting for however long it takes HC to reform. But Xie lian thinks people want to be his friend.

SO. Even though Guoshi's entire personality and all of his Book 3 scenes were deleted from previous parts of the novel, when he returns to infodump in Book 5, suddenly all those things are restored.

thinking about how mu qing and feng xin have NO clue that xie lian tried to kill himself and it had me thinking about what IF they eventually found out. probably after the novels have officially ended and they're all together as friends again.

XL still wears his bandages around his throat even though he doesn't have his cursed shackle anymore and they find it a bit odd. they ask once or twice and he's quick to change the subject so they don't push any further. this goes on for MONTHS until they go out on an adventure / mission together.

the xianle trio were off to solve some sort of mystery and XL gets in a fight. it results in the trio's win, of course, but the bandage around XL's throat comes undone. the white cloth unravels in front of their eyes and what they see immediately is setting alarms off in their head. a dark purple bruise is embedded into his skin and the trio immediately are jumping to conclusion, assuming hua cheng had done something.

XL is quick to deny those accusations while still trying to avoid the subject entirely, but it doesn't work well. eventually, he breaks.

"Ah- it's nothing to worry about, really! After mother and father died I foolishly tried to join them in the afterlife. It's stupid, I know- gods can't die, after all. Haha! It's nothing to worry about, though."

and the thick silence that ensues is SUFFOCATING for XL. he's concerned he'll be judged and perhaps lose his two friends once again. that doesn't happen, however, and instead there's this look of guilt on their expression that cannot be matched by anyone else. it was clear that they were blaming themselves for leaving XL even though it obviously wasn't their fault.

and then they go home and have tea together and cuddle and everything is fine. (it isn't.)

tgcf as a long rambling bedtime story shang qinghua tells xuejiao (because story time is one of the few times his little half-demon whelp will cuddle with him) intended to teach a spoiled ass ice prince the value of humility and goodness and dedication to the people. it backfires horrifically because XJ thinks that xie lian is extremely cringe and in true airplane fashion the epic bloodthirsty demon antagonist ends up being a supreme simp househusband. how does this keep happening to SQH

Reminiscing with you.

It's been roughly three days since they've seen each other, but the ripple in Xie Lian's balcony curtains tells him that is about to change. The night is cold, but all they care about is talking.

They get caught up in their heads and talk about some of their past adventures, letting their memories take them to a better place- to a place where they don't have to whisper, or hide their laughs.

It's been three days too long.

Aka, Hualian reminiscing about things they've done together.
