7 June 2024 - Friday Field Notes

Change of scenery to start the week. As much as I love the section of prairie I'm on, I miss rocks. Also, got my nails done by the best 5 yo sharpie nail tech. Lasted maybe three hours. There's a reason I don't get my nails done very often.

Creek.

Some bug friends. That Bumble Bee is an absolute unit - much like the Prince's Plume (Stanleya pinnata) it was buzzing around - and that Beetle is shiny.

Experimented with Insect high rises, turns out they're not really fans of urban living either. Don't mind the blue Crayfish, they're dead and it's only the front half of what's left of them.

Chocolate Flower (Berlandiera lyrata) getting ready to bloom. (Supposedly, they smell like chocolate. Haven't had a chance to smell them yet.) This one's got a very interesting petal structure and there's some surprise red on the back. One of the other common names for this plant is Lyreleaf Greeneyes, which if that's not an epic fantasy name idk what is.

Prairie Spiderwort (Tradescantia occidentalis) hiding in the grass.

Had summer camps all this week, so I'm zooted. Round 2 incoming next week...
