It’s #PrimulaClevelandii season. Get out there and search the few remaining Southern California grasslands with their rain-soaked clay-heavy soils and find a few. When the rain stops they’re gone until next year! #californianativeplants #californianativegrasslands #WrightsField #wrightsfieldalpine #AlpineCA #sandiegowildflowers #dodecatheonclevelandii #padresshootingstars #primulaceae #primula #savewrightsfield (at Wright's Field in Alpine) https://www.instagram.com/p/CotRF_HNBsW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Recent trip to #MissionTrailsRegionalPark. Sometimes if you look carefully among the sea of invasive filaree you can find beautiful native wildflowers. 1-4: #PrimulaClevelandii / #PadresShootingStar /#ClevelandsShootingStar, FKA #DodecatheonClevelandii. 5: Linanthus dianthiflorus / Fringed linanthus 6: Calandrinia menziesii / red maids 7: Viola pedunculata, California golden violet 8: The not-so-showy but oh-so-important Plantago erecta, California plantain/dot-seed plantain. The rare Edith’s checkerspot (and the extremely endangered quino checkerspot) relies on this tiny plant. 9 & 10: #OphioglossumCalifornicum / #CaliforniaAddersTongue, an uncommon species of fern.
