"Alright! Let's do this!"
Hiccup swallowed, watching the big dragon move slowly towards him. It was another part of Dragon Training. They had to learn how to face a dragon without their dragons by their side. It was something similar to how dragon training was before they had the dragons on their side. But this time, they weren't out to kill any dragons. They had to find weaknesses when it came to fighting and combating. Hiccup...wasn't a fan. He didn't think that they would have to go to a point where they had to fight off a dragon. Dragons were mostly peaceful creatures, unless threatened. And if they were hostile, it was easy to make them non-hostile with non-hostile methods. But he had lost out on that argument.
Hiccup swallowed, holding his shield in one hand and a small dagger in the other. Even though he knew that Toothless would never intentionally hurt him, it was still a heart pounding experience. He may learned how to train the dragons, but he was still the worst when it came to fighting (or viking like things).
Forest green eyes studied the dragon's movements. When Toothless moved one way, Hiccup made sure to move another way. His heart was pounding. They never lost eye contact. Toothless would make the first move, Hiccup was sure. So all he had to do was deflect and then...well, Hiccup would figure it out when he got there.
A sudden movement caught Hiccup's attention. The dragon was ready to attack. Hiccup quickly moved out of the way, raising his shield as his dragon shot one of his attacks at him. His shield did well enough to block it. Hiccup could feel the heat washing over it. He did a mental cheer as he managed to deflect it. Every time the dragon shot at him, he was able to protect himself against it. And for Hiccup, that was a huge achievement.
But...that was all he could do. Toothless was fast, so Hiccup couldn't get close enough to actually stop him. So it was just an endless chase of not getting hit. But Hiccup was getting tired fast. He was liable to make a mist-- Too late! Hiccup tripped over a root. He sprawled on the floor. His shield and dagger flew out of his hand. He didn't have time to scramble up before the black beast was on top of him, ready to deal the final blow. Hiccup's eyes widened. He had lost, of course. Now came the reward for the lower. "Oh uh..."
