I don't know about you, but I LOVE wrapping things. I love getting supplies to wrap gifts! Tom knew your boyfriend was no good for you. He couldn’t keep watching you get into trouble because of him, he couldn’t keep watching you be with the one guy who was always trouble, he couldn’t keep watching you knowing he could treat you so much better. Any girl like you deserves a gentleman. Tom decided to finally confront you about it. He texts you asking you to meet him at his flat, a safe place where he knows you won’t get into any trouble. You were his best friend for fucks sake, regardless of his feelings for you, he wanted you to be safe. He was fed up of your lousy boyfriend not keeping you safe. You knock on his door, Tom opening it and bringing you in for a hug. He holds you tight and close to him, not wanting to let go.

“What’s up, Tommy boy?” You ask, laughing at the nickname, confused as to why he’s hugging you so tightly.

“Missed you is all,” he says, finally breaking from the hug and inviting you into his flat. “Tea?” He asks as he walks to the kitchen.

“Please!” You respond as you sit on the sofa, flicking the TV on. “What d’you wanna watch?” You call to Tom, who’s now in the kitchen.

“Anything on netflix.” He responds, turning the kettle on. Okay, Tom, you can do this. Just tell her her boyfriend’s no good for her. Tell her you can treat her better. He thinks to himself as he makes you both tea. He walks back into the living room, a mug in each hand and a packet of biscuits held between his teeth. He hands you your mug, dropping the biscuits on the coffee table. “Find anything good?”

“Rick and Morty,” you turn to him and smile, sipping your tea. He smiles back, a warmth spreading through his chest at the sight of you; you’re wearing joggers, an oversized jumper and no makeup but he thinks you look absolutely incredible. He’s about to open his mouth when your phone starts buzzing. It’s him. “Sorry, one sec.”

Tom sits silently on the sofa watching the TV. He can’t help but hear your conversation as he sips his tea, the warm fluid nothing in comparison to the warmth you make him feel.

“What?! You’re where? How did you even get there?” You’re pacing around the kitchen, Tom looking up every now and then to see you moving around the kitchen, one hand pressed to your forehead in frustration. “What the fuck do you mean you don’t know how you got there?!” You’re raging now. And so is Tom. “Yes, honey. Of course I’ll come and pick you up. You sound way too drunk to be on your own.” You try to laugh it off, act nonchalantly. He is your boyfriend after all, and when he’s not out getting drunk, or nursing his hangovers, or accusing you of cheating, he makes you happy. For the most part.

You walk back into the living room, collecting your coat and putting your shoes on.

“You’re not going, are you?” Tom asks, his eyebrows furrowed.

“I’m sorry, Tom, it’s just, he really needs me at the moment.” You reply, putting your coat on. “We should do this again soon. I’m sorry, again, Tom.” You head for the front door, but before you can reach the handle, Tom’s hand wraps gently around your wrist.

“Wait-“ he says, you turn to face him.

“Tom I have to-“

“Please, just, hear me out,” you send him a small nod, and he thinks your confused face is absolutely adorable, “he’s no good for you.” 

“Tom, please-”

“He keeps getting you into trouble, he keeps making you pick him up from a different pub every night purely because he’s been drinking too much. He’s no good for you, I could, you know, I could treat you better, Y/N.” 

You stand in silence, contemplating Tom’s words. But you love your boyfriend, right? Tom continues his protests; “you know, last week you came to me in tears and it broke my heart. You said he’d accused you of cheating, that you hadn’t been, he guilt tripped you. He makes you think he loves you but he doesn’t act like he loves you. Why are we wasting time, Y/N? Tell me.”

“He does love me.” The words leave your mouth in defence of your boyfriend, but you can’t bring yourself to believe them. Tom sighs at this, taking your hands in his own.

“Darling, it hurts me to see you like this. I’ve loved you for a long while now, and I can’t keep seeing this asshole get you in trouble, or upset you. You should be with me instead.”

Tom’s hands are shaking as he holds your own, from anger or anxiety you’re not quite sure. He’s looking into your eyes, searching for an answer, searching for an emotion, searching for something.

“You’re right.” You can’t look him in the eye as you say this, you don’t see his eyes brighten up or the small smile tugging at his lips at your words. “How could he possibly do this to me, if he loved me?” Tears are threatening to spill as you think of all of Tom’s points about your asshole boyfriend. 

“Will you give me a chance?” He asks, his hand coming up to cup your cheek, making you look up at him.

“I wish I could, Tom, but I feel so bad.”

“Do not feel bad, okay? He’s bad for you.”

“I still need to break up with him, Tom. I can’t cheat-” 

“Of course, love, I would never ask you to be unfaithful. We can sort this out together, okay?” You nod, leaning into Tom’s touch. He smiles down at you, and you return the smile gently. “Where did he say he was? I’ll go pick him up, you stay here and relax, okay?” You tell Tom where your boyfriend is, him grabbing his car key and your flat keys, telling you he’ll take care of him and be back soon.

The next day, you break up with your ex, telling him you know he’s no good for you and that you deserve better. He gets angry and demands you pack up your things and go, which you do gladly, packing up and heading to Tom’s flat: home.
