Breaking down the Ritual - Thovil
What is a thovil ritual?
In Sri Lanka, a thovil ritual is considered to be a village ceremony in which a priest (Capua, Cattadiya) and their helpers exorcise mental or physical illness. As in most cases when there is some good done in the world, there will always be evil to match that. Similar to how these thovil rituals bring health and prosperity to people, some types of thovil bring destruction and pain.
Some examples for this type of rituals are Mahason Ritual, Gara devil dance and pretha dishti.
Reference article for thovil.

I'll listen to people badmouth Finn all day but y'all better RECONSIDER how you talk about Pretha
You know what. We knew most of this twist was coming, but the specifics are a pleasant surprise and y'all know I love stepparents being excellent (or, well. Not exactly a stepparent in this case but. Sorta?)

4.5 stars
When Abriella's sister gets taken by the Unseelie King, Brie must retrieve three artifacts from the Seelie Court. To do so, she'll have to pose as one of the potential brides for the Seelie Prince. As she gets involved with the Unseelie Rebels as well, she soon will learn nothing is as it seems in the Faerie Lands.
This will have MAJOR SPOILERS so if you don't want to be spoiled just know that this is a pretty average book that ends with explosive betrayals, reveals, and second guessing everyone's intentions. I would recommend it but know that it's nothing spectacular.
These Hollow Vows isn't an original book but by god I enjoyed it. However, we should get the big parts out of the way like this book has a lot of similarities to ACOTAR. Maybe it's meant as a giant love letter to Sarah J Maas in general but it makes you wonder just a little. Give your Fae a little something unique. Because while Finn and Ronan are characters in their own right, all I can see them mostly as Knockoff Rhys and Rowan 2.0. Side note: why have a character named Ronan and then just call him Sebastian 100% of the time it's CONFUSING.
I really didn't have a big opinion of this book until we started nearing the end and things happened. I was interested but wasn't super loving it until then. The main reason was that for a book that's supposed to be about saving her sister and getting these artifacts, there's shockingly little of that. Brie mentions this and it's absolutely her goal, but there's way more emphasis and focus on her feelings and relationships than hunting for her sister or artifacts. In fact, quite wild enough that she just... asks for the artifacts and gets them pretty much??? And on one, she's waiting so damn long on the King collecting her that it's ridiculous. Also? Sebastian is also looking for her sister and Brie just... doesn't ever ask him about the progress??? The plan?? Anything??? I know she's working on it but um.... hello? I'd be pestering the FUCK out of him. And she just... doesn't.
Also, we're told she's supposed to pose as one of Prince Ronan's potential brides which she does but nothing happens in this regard? If you liked the Selection or was interested in this potential plot, there's no competition whatsoever. You don't meet any of the girls or go anything of that which kind of begs the question why put it in if you're not going to explore it??? Also, there's a severe lack of female characters. The maids don't count. There's Pretha but we don't get a lot of them. And her sister who is gone. A queen we meet once. And oh, Nik who is just a safe place for the MC to sleep at once.
I think the main thing I struggled with is that the main character doesn't know things which is fine but the characters either straight out don't tell her or give her the littlest breadcrumbs. It's fine for awhile but it starts to get really frustrating. Aren't Fae all about loopholes and being clever. If something prevents you from speaking it, maybe there's other ways but now that I'm finished it definitely feels more like it was purposeful to keep Brie ignorant and in the dark. Still, the last 100 pages felt like so much because we finally get information on top of so much more.
The love triangle was okay. It's very clear at least to me that the book absolutely wants you to like one over the other, and I feel like it's quite obvious who the better of the two is even before the wild ending. Spoilers here, but the book to me feels like it's rooting more for Finn. Even though this is Sebastian's book of the love triangle. Sebastian and Brie have a history and its clear that they both love each other in their own ways, but Brie mentions just enough and her powers seem to respond more to Finn which is like flashing neon signs. However, I don't know 100% what to think about Finn because I can honestly say I don't really know him from the breadcrumbs we get and we just didn't get a lot of time with him. We just know he's tall, dark, and handsome with tan skin, he's a prince, he's broody, and he's got tattoos. Because he's a prince of the Unseelie court he might have dark or star powers, which is eerily like Rhys. We know a bit more of Sebastian because he's a constant in this book. He's just very concerned about Brie and in love with her and wants her safe. He has white hair, green eyes, tan skin, and wind powers seem to be mentioned so it reminds me of Rowan but with more personality.
One of the best things in this book is that it keeps you continually guessing and unsure of each boy's intentions. And that was actually a lot of fun. You don't really KNOW who to trust because in the grand scheme of things you don't know enough about them. Is Finn really helping refugees because we don't get to SEE anything happen, we're just told. Is Sebastian even LOOKING for Brie's sister, again we don't get to see we're just told. Could Finn had helped rescue Brie's sister or even stopped the bond from happening or did he want it to happen so the metaphorical blood isn't on his hands? Why is Sebastian not his enemy? Does Finn mean well for both courts or just Unseelie? Does Sebastian even care about the refugees, what is his plan and why hasn't he tried to do something about it? Why did Sebastian hide so much? Does he really love her love her? Is the potential brides thing actually a SCAM?
Which leads to the best part.
The betrayals. I was LIVING. I'm here for it. Brie's betrayal. Finn's betrayal. Sebastian's betrayal. What makes this book almost get a 5 star rating is the explosive betrayals and reveals. Brie being like sorry boo to your mom but I'm going to get my sister back? Iconic. Finn's yeah I take sacrifices so I can be immortal and not age and do magic. Sebastian's yeah I'm actually half-Unseelie and I didn't tell you that bonding me would kill you but I did tell you I love you, and want your crown.
It just leaves you in SHOCK and wondering what the hell is going to happen now

Oxford bimari’ made this love story
When this ‘Oxford bimari’ hit the people, nobody could understand it like ‘China bimari.’ Nobody was bothered. It took everybody to the seventh cloud. I also joined lakhs of other people, running to Mumbai, Delhi and other big cities to fulfil their dreams. Suddenly men-women in my slum cluster started running away from Delhi and walking back to their lost ‘gaon’.
Perhaps all were scared of an unknown fear. ‘Gaon’? Nothing is left there. I have sold my land and mud house. Now, who will give me shelter and food there? It will be again another Delhi drama. No ration, no food, no salary. All 'lafda'. I hadn’t got my 'pagar' yet. The director of the firm was saying that he would be delaying the salary because of some ‘panga’ by the government. Hence I have to stay back and face China Corona.
But my parents were very worried about me. They called me. My mother was crying, and saying that my two younger sisters were wailing because they thought their brother will be killed by China ‘bimari’ in Delhi. But…I didn’t want to leave Shabana alone and go back to Bengal. Who would take care of my love if I leave her alone? She was a decent woman…and we have a special feeling for each other.
Shabana worked in the same office as I did as out-source employees and our company was the same. We disliked our director. He was worse than our village ‘thekedar’ and ‘zamindar’ who used to supply us for the ‘kohlu’ of the ‘zamindar,’ this out-sourcing was an Oxford ‘bimari’ exported to India by the great economist Dr.Man Mohan Singh. This was worst than ‘thekedari pretha.’
When Usman drove in his white Audy car, to the office all of us who had been abused, slapped, kicked and punched by the brute director of the out-sourcing company, wanted to beat him, once and for all but…ironically, it was his oppression, that had made our relationship firm...Shabana and me.
An incident made Shabana mine. She shared a personal secret about her monthly periods and taken a few minutes off to rest on the side of the veranda. I saw Usman, walk up to her and to my surprise touched her forehead very softly. When she did not react, he held her by her hand and lifted her face. Shabana, come to my room and take rest. What were you doing in the night that you are so sick at work? He almost pulled her inside his air-conditioned room.
I felt very bad about this behaviour of Shababa going with Usman in his room. I was a very hot-headed man in my village. On the minor argument, I used to get into fights with elders and boys much elder to me. By the time, I was a young boy; I was like a bullfighter. My neck, shoulders, arms and legs were like ‘pehlwans,’ People avoided me and became wary of me.
I could not stop myself when I listened to the pleadings of Shabana, ‘chod do, chod do, mai mahine se hu.’ I rushed inside the room like a mad bull towards Usman…I wanted to kill Usman inside the room but Shabana stopped me. Usman’s face had turned pale as my first blow hit his face. ‘Leave my Shabnam alone..or I will kill you.’ He started trembling and yelled his private guards. Luckily, one of the guards was from my village and lived one street away from my house. He recognized me and stopped other guards and pacified Usma.
Slowly, I walked away…outside the office building. Shabana struggled to walk and followed me sadly. Head down, she walked fast, till she caught me. “Why did you beat Usman for me?” she asked. For the first time, she spoke to me, standing in front of a temple. Shabana gave her hand to me as God a witness. We have been living together in the ‘jhuggi’ of my friend to safeguard ourselves from ant further harassment by Usman and his men. She decided to accompany me to my villagers, when I had decided to walk back home to escape China ‘bimari.’
Our ‘jhuggi’ colony was sealed off and everyone was scary as if death will enter in each ‘jhuggi.’ Our office was closed. Our money finished and no other work to earn. The police were not allowing us to come out of the ‘jhuggis.’ Even for the toilet, we had to take the permission of the police and pay Rs. 2/= per visit. Very pitiable condition. Death was imminent. If we stayed there, the corona will kill us and if we walk back home we will die of hunger, heat and exhaustion.
There was no place even in hospitals and graveyards. Not even for rich and big people. But for poor people like us, whether we die here, or on the road, or in the hospital, or of hunger, makes no difference. This is ‘meri Dilli’ a heartless city.
If I die here, there will be no claimant, neither for my body nor for any compensation. Some corrupt Dilli government ‘babu’ will swindle and claim the compensation. Shabana can’t get any of the two if she claims that he was my man because she doesn’t have the proper papers to claim the body or the compensation. So, better die in your village.
Shabana was ready to accompany me. Now, she can’t live without me. She always looks into my eyes. She was a young divorcee. I had seen so many others seeing her with voluptuous looks, even the rich in big cars. Her drug-addicted husband pronounced ‘talaq.’ For keeping her again he asked Shabana to perform ‘halala’ with his father, for which Shabana refused. So, she was pushed out of her husband’s house. Now, I will take her to my village and marry her.
I went out of my ‘jhuggi’ the last time in search of some food. The priest of Hanuman temple gave me a big ‘thali’ of delicious food. Shabana will be happy to eat this delicious food. We shared the ‘thali.’
Next morning we started to walk for our village hungry, bare food, no money, with a shattered dream. In all we were thirty people, some were with their little kids. We reached Ghaziabad. Suddenly, we heard a siren of a police car. Our blood froze. He took us all to the police station. Like an angel, he arranged food for us and gave milk for the children. He arranged a UP of the UP roadways.
In the bus, I read a newspaper. A fire in our ‘jhuggi’ cluster burnt all the ‘jhuggis’ that killed five people and injured many more. The list of the dead mentioned me and Shabana. The generous Chief Minister announced and distributed the compensation of rupees five lakhs each. The list of beneficiary included the kins of me and Shabana.
Neither of the two, the devastation or the corruption, are new; in fact, in most disaster stories they feature together. Yet, we rarely smiled to question how people can be so selfish in a world so narcissistic.

Dead people get married here in Karnataka: Viral Twitter thread explains how | Bengaluru
In a tradition from the depths of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka, two infants were posthumously united in marriage on Thursday as their parents hoped for a happily ever after for their spirits. ‘Pretha Kalyanam’, or marriage of the dead, is a tradition that is still very much alive in many parts of Karnataka and Kerala in some communities. Somebody asked me, #Swamiji were you never disturbed by the ghosts, boothas and prethas?

Bhuloka - Bhuvarloka - Pitruloka, now what am I writing about ?
I am bit dazed for the past 20days ever since my father left this mortal world - Bhuloka
This naturally stirred my conscience and recalled memories of my near death experience in teenage years
I was hovering and could see myself on a hospital bed surrounded by few human's
Slightly above my head a deep dark tunnel suddenly appeared with a spark at far end
Next I remember awakening amidst my very concerned family members
This incident began my search for finding a valid reason behind this experience
The Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavadam and Atharvana Veda mentioned
"The soul cannot be slain by sword, nor can it be burnt down by fire, nor can it be decomposed by water and nor can it be dried by wind.”
A seed becomes a tree and the tree becomes a seed. A seed and a tree is different in terms of shape, form and size but the very essence that is the existence of that particular plant never ceases to exist. It exists both inside the tree and also inside the seeds
The abode (mortal body) of Athma (soul) exiting to Jeevathma (ethereal dimension)
Staying in Pretha yoni for a earthly period of 12 days and entering Pitru yoni for rebirth
Thus the soul remain at Pitruloka for the Day of Judgement and enters another form as per the Karma
I also learnt that the time frame between Bhuloka and Pitruloka is - 1 earthly year equal 1 day at Pitruloka
Ie the 12 earthly days of Pitrukarma performed by the descendents help the soul to successfully enter Pitruloka dimension
It is believed that the Pitru never dies but only change their bodies. Their existence never ceases to exist. They are believed to be situated in the “Pitru Loka”. Every year a special ceremony called “Pitru Paksha” is celebrated to respect and offer food to the Pitru’s as in the form of gratitude and in return, the Pitru empowers the person who offers !
The spider spews lots of webs but one day it gets caught and trapped in its own web and ultimately dies. Humans are like the spiders, the karmas are the webs that human spew and ultimately in the webs of those karmas, human being ultimately has to suffer. Human being although being the most intelligent and developed species meets the fate of a spider when it comes to karma ?
A karmic is one who is conciously aware of his/her worldly actions, righteousness and performs one's duties sincerely
Such karmic souls may successfully exit the Karma Web 🙏
