Reworked Story
Act 1 - Setting the scene
A group of individuals are preparing for something in a dark eerie forest.
Why are they here? They are a part of a group working under a powerful demonic priest (Leaders of the Demonism religion). The priest in question is shown to be focused on preparing an alter in the center of all the activities going on. They are preparing for some sort of ritual.
Another individual joins them. At first we are only shown this person to be respectable with much better clothing than the rest. This individual is Wansa and acts as the mediator between the Ritual party and the Person who requested for the Ritual.
Wansa was contacted by a wealthy Nobleman from the wealthiest region of the world. At first he was shocked to hear this persons request, but as a large amount of wealth was offered he did not ask questions. Wansa will do his job a long as he is compensated.
Meanwhile the said Nobleman also arrives to the ritual site. Kethaan a powerful figure with ties to royalty itself.
Why is Kethaan in need of a ritual? Kethaan is the younger of two brothers. Agman, the eldest brother is set to inherit the family fortune. Then Kethaan would be dependent on his brother. He is tired of living under his Brothers shadow and decided to take matters into his own hand.
He had heard from the elders of the area that the Demon priests from the Southern regions are rumored to be powerful because they bind Demons to Willing souls and use the demons powers to get things done. (This idea were taken from Sri Lankan Witchcraft)
Kethaan wants to use this power for himself.
With the Arrival of Kethaan everyone else finishes up the preparation for the ritual. Two dancers and two Drummers take their places while two more assistants remain in the background. The Demon priest and Wansa go to welcome Kethaan.
Kethaan speaks to them inquiring if everything is prepared for the Ritual. He also signals to his guards to give the offerings that he brought for the Ritual. Why? Because any type of Ritual requires a type of offering such as fruits and consumables or treasures.
There is a seat prepared for Kethaan to sit during the Ritual. Why? Implies significance and respect offered to Kethaan. As the Demon Priest dresses and blesses the altar everyone awaits. The Priest then looks for Kethaans permission to start the ritual. Thus ends Act 1.

The old gods of Sri Lanka
When learning about the advent of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, the old religions that prevailed in Sri Lanka were that of Natural worship, Demon and Cobra (Naaga) worships as well. These beliefs were the birthing of civilizations as well. Even though in confirmed History it is said that King Vijaya is the first king of Sri Lanka, there is plausible evidence that there were kings in Sri Lanka before that.
This draws parallels to the world of Sindas, where these regions had similar worship (Nature and Demons). Therefore by implementing symbolism and mise-en-scene for these old gods we can also establish the world of Sindas.
The advent of Buddhism
The establishment of Buddhism in Sri Lanka changed everything. As old beliefs of worshipping Nature, Demons and Gods slowly receded into the deeper roots of Sri Lanka. These beliefs were forced to limit themselves to families of Capuas and such. When the missionaries of Christianity and various individuals of Hinduism and Islam ventured to Sri Lanka in order to spread their religions as well, these made the old religions further fade into the pages of history.
On a brighter note however, in modern times there are many in Sri Lanka who still believe in the old gods, demons and nature. There are various temples dedicated to the worship of them ( Kataragama). Even though there is a resurgence in these beliefs, there is certainly a difference and prejudice towards it. Mainly because of the powerful nature of these beliefs that have its roots dipped in local witchcraft including demonology.
How Buddhism reshaped old beliefs in Sri Lanka
The theme of the film is how Buddhism reshaped old beliefs in Sri Lanka. This also ties to the beliefs of Sindas and how various nationalities felt about the religion of Demonism. This is the idea that I wish to show. How old beliefs had to bow and make way for modern faiths such as Buddhism.

What is the story about?
The story has a narrative. But is this what i wanted to actually say with this final project? Just a story about a ritual gone wrong? When reflecting on the story itself I realized that it lacked the innuendos and hidden ideas that I really like to show in my stories generally.
By aiming to create a straightforward story, I sometimes find it difficult to enjoy the wonder of said story. When speaking of hidden innuendos, the prominent figure that comes to my mind is Stanley Kubrick. Kubrick had a tendency of using every single shot of his story to present an idea. I also wanted to replicate this in my story. So I did some research into old religions and some further studying into Sri Lankan religion. This is because Witchcraft was in a sense a type of religion in Sri Lanka. In fact even to this day while there are four main religions in Sri Lanka, some figures in society still rely on Witchcraft.

Double back -Story so far ||
Yes. My story required conflict. If Kethaan had a successful venture in controlling a demon it feels incomplete. Therefore I brainstormed as to how I can bring conflict into the story. Once I do bring in conflict this would also help me in coming up with an ending for the story.
Some ideas of how to bring conflict,
Summoning the demon becomes unsuccessful.
The entire story revolves around the summoning of the demon. If the demon cannot be summoned, the demon priest (Gura) would be condemned and thus we can create a type of conflict.
However this can only go so far as we would need to show why this was a failure. We would also need to come up with a new ending to show what happens to all our parties involved.
2. The summoned demon cannot be controlled.
Now this is quite common among local witchcraft stories. Most of the time when using these demons for their work there is bound to be consequences. Most of the time these demons, like the eastern jinn are revengeful. Therefore once the demon is free from the bond, it will definitely seek out the people who summoned it in the first place.
Interestingly the second idea feels like would work. This is because we can also include the original ending of Kethaan running away from the demon. I also know this will serve to be a good ending because of the uncertain nature of the demon.
Some notes to show how the ending would take place in the story. Once the demon is free, the Gura will try to take back control of the demon and fail. This will cause the demon to be more hateful towards the Gura.

Double back - Story so far |
After the quite eventful reality check of the second stage presentation I realized that I was much in need of a new look and of a rework to my narration as a whole. I had been circling over and over to try and finalize the story.
So far the story in its simplicity looked something like this,
The Ritual to summon a demon is the main idea to showcase the world of Sri Lankan witchcraft. Initially I wanted to showcase the world of Sindas which I created as well. But due to the short amount of time and complexity of said world I decided to only focus on the theme of witchcraft.
The story follows the preparation of the ritual, the ritual in itself and finally the foretelling of what powers the person who summoned the demon would have. This was because the only reason a demon is summoned by local Capuas is because they wished to take control of the demon and use it according to their desire.
I tried to show this type of unbridled possibility of the person (Kethaan) who wields the instrument used to control the demon. But by doing so it felt incomplete. Mainly because almost every film requires one thing for a successful storytelling, and that is CONFLICT.

Adding the title
I have decided to title this animation as 'අග්නි ඇරයුම' (Call of Fire). This is because of the summoning of the demon by fire.

Final character sheets
I decided to change Kethaans purple robes to a more darker tone and colors. This was done to emphasize his villainous character. I also decided to introduce a new simpler design for him as well.
