The indigenous peoples of the Hapi Valley were not Egytians or Nubians but rather Kemetyu and Nehesu, written in the Medu Neter as, 𓆎𓅓𓏏𓊖 and 𓅘𓎛𓋴 𓅫𓀎. They were sister civilizations with common culture and lineage in north east Africa. These ancient neolithic populations first migrated from the source of the Hapi which is in what European scholars love to call “Sub Sahran” Africa. It should be noted that this is a modern concept which these ancient populations did not adhere to.
The Source of the Blue Hapi being Lake Tana in Ethiopia and the White Hapi being Lake Victoria in Tanzania. Ta-Seti, Ta-Netjer and Ta-Meri evolved side by side, intermarried, traded, had alliances and conflicts. The Nation is Kemet, not Egypt and the region is Ta-Meri. In Medu Neter "Ta" means Land and Meri means Beloved (Beloved Land), and it was located in modern day Egypt and North Sudan. Ta-Netjer which is modern day Somalia and Northern Kenya translates to "Land of the Gods", Know as Punt of Puntland, indigenous known as Pwenet. Ta-Seti which is modern day Sudan translates to Land of the Bow, due to their world renowned Archers. They were masters of a style of archery known as "the double shot", which allowed them to fire two arrows almost simultaneously.
Narmer the first Pharaoh of Kemet was from Nehken which is modern day Aswan. He defeated the people of the Delta and Unified Upper and Lower Kemet. The people of Aswan today maintain their African identity as well as their dark Melanin.
Ta-Seti predates the unification of Ta-Meri known as Sema Tawy. Proof of this is the Qustul Burner which depicts Pharaonic iconography, a clear and concise artifact that proves Nwsts ruled in Ta-Seti in the Qustual and Naqada Regions around the same time if not before Menes came from the South and conquered the peoples who dwelled in the wet marshlands of the Delta. Menes came from the Nekhen, modern day Aswan, but his ancestors came from further south, down the Hapi river. He wore the white crown of Upper Kemet before the nation of Kemet was established, the same white crown depicted on the Qustul Incense Burner. These 3 civilizations, Ta-Meri, Ta-Seti, and Ta-Netjer comprised the Hapi Valley civilization.
The most clear-cut evidence of the origins of predynastic Kemetic culture is the 5,600 year old Black Mummy of the Green Sahara and the 9,000 year old Nabta Playa Stone Circle. This Black mummies remains was identified to belong to the A-Group, same as the cemeteries found in Qustual and Naqada. Also found was the earliest signs of cattle iconography and the worship or Het-Heru known later as Hathor, the Lady of Punt, or Pwenet. The Nabta Playa Stone Circle is one of the oldest astrological sites in the world. Adams Calendar which is located in South Africa being the oldest. At these sites they studied the procession of the equinox for thousands of years which allowed them to predict the monsoon seasons to grow their crops. Nabta Playa is also the site where humans first developed geometry and the concept of Pi. Around 3,400 BC drastic weather changes turned these luch tropical regions to desert and this is when these ancient Africans packed up and migrated northward following the flow of the Hapi river all the way to the Delta. These are the origins of Kemetic culture and science and the rest is history.

If When There is Water…There is Too Much Life
ITA version ESP version
The variation in water availability has major global consequences. Just think of the crises that hit cities when some pollutant is found in drinking water. In nature, even large animal herds strongly depend on water, moving with the first rains or large rivers, gathering and reproducing where water is plentiful. However, changing climatic conditions could disrupt the rhythms of animals: rising temperatures and changing precipitation patterns are leading to significant net losses of surface water. By the end of the century, 50% of the Earth's land is predicted to be covered by arid areas. The first to be affected will be large herbivores already suffering from the current reduction in water quantities. Rising temperatures accelerate the seasonal drying of plants, reducing the water available through food. Direct water losses will increase, and animals will be forced to move more frequently to find new water sources, gathering where water is present and changing migration routes and times. Water will become a resource to compete for. Large predators will gather around the few remaining water sources, attracted not only by thirst but also by prey concentration. Aggregating around a few water sources during drought periods will also imply the rapid transmission of pathogens, especially if the water is contaminated.
These changes will affect the health of wildlife and livestock and increase human-wildlife conflicts. Large wild and domestic herbivores will have to balance their food and water needs while competing with other species. In many African regions, livestock farming is common where large quantities of water and wildlife are present, so competition for this resource will increase between wild and domestic animals. Dr. Viviana Martinez and collaborators recently published a concrete example of what could happen on a large scale. During their research, they studied for two years the relationship between temperature, precipitation, and water supply patterns at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya, home to over 24 large herbivore species. The reserve is fenced with wildlife corridors and hosts about 7000 Boran cattle raised by local communities. The researchers installed five pairs of water basins, where in each pair, one basin was permanently filled and the other experimentally drained. Each water basin in a pair was located within 2.5 km of the other, and the pair was grouped in a "matrix" site randomly located 1.5 km from the full control basin and at least 1.5 km from any other water source. Scattered around the matrix were camera traps that activated when animals passed by, allowing the monitoring of interactions both near and far from water sources.
The results showed that camera traps were significantly more active near water sources compared to other sites, confirming greater activity. This increase was particularly evident during the hottest days of the year and in dry months. The observed species (except buffalo) increased their activity around filled water sources, resulting in a higher probability of interspecific contacts, about two to three times higher. However, when new water sources were introduced, or existing ones were reactivated, interspecific contacts did not increase immediately. Species such as cattle and elephants, which tend to dominate these spaces, can initially exclude other species, leading to cascading behavioural changes. Another important finding was that less water-dependent species could take longer to adapt their foraging behaviours to new water sources.
When water was removed, the composition of contacts between different species changed, mainly due to the movements of elephants and cattle, which influenced interaction dynamics. However, some herbivore species continued to overlap in drained water basins, probably because such basins offer food resources like grazing lawns or because these species are slower to adapt to changes compared to human-raised cattle or elephants. Interestingly, the presence of elephants and cattle was a driving force behind all other species dynamics. Elephants showed a higher probability of contact with other species on hot days, accessing water in the early afternoon when temperatures were higher, but if cattle were present, their behaviour changed, visiting water earlier to avoid direct competition. Cattle generally showed consistently high levels of aggregation near water during hot days, due to routine grazing and water visits managed by humans, interacting a lot with other species and affecting water arrival dynamics. This behaviour of cattle, with strong aggregation, could facilitate the transmission of diseases shared with other species like buffalo, which avoid water during the middle of the day, preferring early morning or evening, thus reducing competition.
The results obtained through this study are extremely important for the conservation and survival of species, with implications for the management of natural resources and the mitigation of conflicts between wildlife and human activities, especially in climate change scenarios. Promoting sustainable systems, such as creating water sources reserved for wildlife during hot seasons, could reduce competition and the risk of disease transmission between wildlife and livestock.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, has witnessed a burgeoning interest in digital currencies. According to a report, Nigeria’s recent spike in crypto usage can be attributed to economic conditions and the nation’s youth-driven technological resurgence. The implications of this growing trend can’t be understated, especially considering Nigeria’s position as Africa’s largest economy. Nigerians are seeking viable alternatives for their financial activities, with the naira experiencing significant devaluation and inflation rates soaring. Crypto Transactions Surge Amid Naira Devaluation According to a New York-based blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis report, Nigeria’s cryptocurrency transactions swelled 9% year-over-year, reaching $56.7 billion between July 2022 and June 2023. Nigeria’s Crypto Adoption is up 9% year-over-year. | Source: Chainalysis This growth in digital asset adoption is similar in neighboring countries: Uganda saw its crypto usage skyrocket by 245% to $1.6 billion. In Kenya, the situation is different as the country experienced a sharp decline in crypto adoption, with its usage plummeting by over 50% to $8.4 billion, according to Reuters. This uptick in Nigeria’s crypto activity coincides with significant economic turbulence. Notably, the naira’s value dropped considerably in June and July 2023. Such financial instability has pushed many Nigerians towards Bitcoin and stablecoins. These digital tokens, especially stablecoins, have their value anchored to stable assets, offering a semblance of financial predictability amid the wild fluctuations common to the digital currency world. Presidential Reforms And Cryptocurrency Regulation According to Reuters, the naira’s dive to record lows can be traced back to a series of bold measures instituted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Some of the most significant changes involved the removal of a widely used petrol subsidy and lifting of certain exchange rate constraints. Moyo Sodipo, co-founder of the Nigeria-based digital currency exchange Busha, elucidated the populace’s sentiment, stating: People are constantly looking for opportunities to hedge against the devaluation of the naira and the persistent economic decline since COVID. However, it’s worth noting that the Nigerian government’s relationship with cryptocurrencies has been tenuous. In 2021, the country’s government banned banks and financial institutions from processing or facilitating cryptocurrency transactions. The ban was imposed, citing concerns over money laundering, terrorism financing, cybercrime, and the volatility of cryptocurrencies. Yet, in a seeming change of heart, Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rolled out a series of regulations for digital assets in the subsequent year. Titled the “New Rules on Issuance, Offering Platforms and Custody of Digital Assets” on its official site, the rule is detailed in a 54-page regulation structure for digital asset launches and safekeeping. This guideline positions these assets under the purview of the SEC as securities. The commission has clearly stated that any exchange dealing in digital assets must first obtain a clearance of “no objection” from them to operate legally. Moreover, these exchanges have a registered fee of 30 million naira (equivalent to $72,289) and other associated charges. Reuters describes this decision as an attempt by Nigeria to strike a balance between a total crypto ban and its rampant use. The global crypto market cap value on the 1-day chart. On the shores of Lake Victoria in Kenya, a brief valley extends south in direction of the looming Mount Homa. From it, a global crew of archaeologists not too long ago uncovered among the oldest stone instruments ever discovered in addition to the oldest stays of one in all our early cousins, Paranthropus—a genus we predict co-existed with our direct ancestors. The traditional instruments found alongside the banks are seemingly the oldest proof of each an necessary Stone Age innovation referred to as the Oldowan toolkit and of hominins consuming very massive animals. The findings had been revealed on February 9 within the journal Science. The Oldowan toolkit consists of three forms of stone instruments: hammerstones for hitting different rocks or creating instruments that pound, cores which are angular or oval formed and break up off items of fabric, and flakes used as a chopping or scraping edge. Examples of an Oldowan percussive device, core, and flakes from the Nyayanga web site. Utilizing a mix of relationship strategies, together with the speed of decay of radioactive parts, reversals of Earth’s magnetic subject, and the presence of sure fossil animals whose timing within the fossil report is properly established, the analysis crew was in a position to date the objects recovered from Nyayanga to between 2.58 and three million years previous. “Although a number of strains of proof recommend the artifacts are prone to be about 2.9 million years previous, the artifacts may be extra conservatively dated to between 2.6 and three million years previous,” lead research writer Thomas Plummer of Queens Faculty, analysis affiliate within the scientific crew of the Smithsonian’s Human Origins Program, mentioned in a press release. Paranthropus molars recovered from Nyayanga web site. Within the excavations on the web site, the crew additionally discovered an enormous pair of molars that belong to Paranthropus– a genus of shut evolutionary kinfolk of recent people. These tooth are the oldest fossilized Paranthropus stays discovered by scientists. Their presence at a web site with so many stone instruments has sparked a thriller about which human ancestors made the instruments. “The belief amongst researchers has lengthy been that solely the genus Homo, to which people belong, was able to making stone instruments,” mentioned Rick Potts, a co-author of the research from the Smithsonian Nationwide Museum of Pure Historical past, in a press release. “However discovering Paranthropus alongside these stone instruments opens up a captivating whodunnit.” “With these instruments, you possibly can crush higher than an elephant’s molar can and reduce higher than a lion’s canine can,” Potts mentioned. “Oldowan expertise was like all of a sudden evolving a brand-new set of tooth exterior your physique, and it opened up a brand new number of meals on the African savannah to our ancestors.” “East Africa wasn’t a secure cradle for our species’ ancestors,” Potts mentioned. “It was extra of a boiling cauldron of environmental change, with downpours and droughts and a various, ever-changing menu of meals. Oldowan stone instruments might have reduce and pounded via all of it and helped early toolmakers adapt to new locations and new alternatives, whether or not it’s a useless hippo or a starchy root.” The Nyayanga deposits present a glimpse into an ancestral world that’s presumably radically completely different from any we had pictured. In doing so, they’ve raised much more questions on hominin evolution. #Scientists #MillionYearOld #Toolkit #Kenya #Whats #Great #Engineering Archaeologists not too long ago uncovered among the oldest stone instruments and Paranthropus stays from the shores of Lake Victoria in Kenya. The Queen
A legend has left us. The petite head who carried the heavy crown, a person who has been a steady, calm, reliable presence in the world my entire life is gone. The last, true “stiff upper lip” has passed away. Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor died this afternoon at her beloved Balmoral in the Scottish Highlands. She was a young mother when she became queen and she ended her life as sort of a grandmother to the world. Her reign saw fourteen American presidents, from Truman to Biden. Love or hate the monarchy, she was living, breathing history. Her devotion to serving her country was unquestioned, her devotion to her horses and dogs amusing. We were treated to occasional glimpses of her wicked sense of humor which made her human. Her Christmas addresses during trying times were uplifting and fortifying, her colorful wardrobe of hats, coats, and purses as predictable as English weather.
Just look at that beautiful, young queen! Here she is, just two days ago, preparing to meet her 15th Prime Minister. She met her first prime minister, Sir Winston Churchill, when she stepped off the plane that brought her back from Kenya to Britain as the new queen in 1952.
That was taken on Tuesday, almost impossible to believe that on Thursday she’s no longer here. Yesterday it was announced that her Zoom meeting with her Privy Council had been canceled as her doctor had advised her to rest. Alarm bells! I told Mickey that I didn’t feel good about it. This morning headlines said that the Queen was under a doctor’s care and “comfortable”. That’s when I started watching BBC sites and The Telegraaph. Mid-morning BBC changed all of the logos and headers on their website and social media to black, news presenters were all wearing black. The BBC’s regular programming schedule was cleared and it appeared everyone was just waiting. The Telegraph’s live feed started showing jets arriving in Aberdeen carrying various members of the family - William, Andrew, Edward, and Sophie flew in together. Charles and Ann were already there. Others trickled in. Back in London, in the rain, people were laying bouquets at the gates of Buckingham Palace. Just before the announcement of her death, this was posted.
The rain cleared, and a glorious double rainbow stretched over Buckingham Palace. Call me crazy, call me a kook, whatever - but I immediately thought it meant Elizabeth and her Philip were together again. A fitting end for them, rainbows over the palace. In the days to come there will be beautiful tributes to Queen Elizabeth II and her 70 years on the throne, but I believe that photo does it for me. During her first Christmas broadcast as queen she said, "I cannot lead you into battle. I do not give you laws or administer justice but I can do something else – I can give my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations." She went on to say that she would do everything in her power to earn and retain their trust. I can’t speak for all of the UK, but I think she succeeded. She was unwavering. Today she became part of history and Charles is now king. I assumed it would happen in my lifetime (I mean, she was 96) but it still feels too soon. I wonder if her family feels unanchored, adrift. She was the head, the center, the boss for 70 years. No one can fill those shoes. She’d be the first to tell them to soldier on, to get on with the tasks at hand, no wallowing - I wonder if they know how? She was always the example. It’s a sad day, the world has lost, as a dear friend said, “a beacon of decency”. Just after the attacks on September 11th, when she broke 600 years of tradition and had The Star Spangled Banner played for the changing of the guard, she made a statement that included, “Grief is the price we pay for love." Judging by the mounds of flowers outside the palace and the tributes pouring in from around the world, she was indeed well-loved.

New models could help African countries stop locust swarms before they start
Several countries in East Africa – namely Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and South Sudan – are still trying to contain the worst desert locust invasion the region has experienced in over 70 years.
The locusts have destroyed vegetation – especially staple cereal crops, legumes, and pastures – resulting in huge economic losses. The World Bank estimates that these losses could reach US$8.5 billion by the end of the year.
Unlike many other grasshoppers, the desert locust (Schistocerca gregaria) can change from a harmless solitary phase to a destructive gregarious phase whereby hoppers (juveniles in their early, wingless stages) march together in bands.
The adults can fly and form giant swarms that can invade large areas away from their original breeding sites.
Currently, the countries are battling the second generation (or wave) of locusts, as they’ve already reproduced and hatched once within the region. And re-infestation could continue if the environment is conducive to it.
The desert locust breeds well in semi-arid zones. An ideal breeding site is characterised by warmth, vegetation close by and sandy soil with moisture and salt in it. The females usually lay their eggs at between 4 and 6 cm deep in the soil.
Governments have tried to control these insects through a range of efforts: from mobilising military units to using young people as locust cadets.
But trying to control and eliminate populations of flying locusts is expensive and not very effective. The best option, proved by scientists, is to manage them at their breeding sites.
Eggs survive and hatch when the environmental conditions are right – they can hatch within weeks or remain undeveloped for years. They’re laid inside soil so can be hard to find; it’s best that control measures – preferably biopesticides – are used when the locusts are at the surface in the form of a nymph or hopper.
For this to happen, targeted ground and aerial surveillance efforts to identify potential breeding sites are critical.
The most destructive locust swarm in East Africa happened over 70 years ago. Documentation of information was very poor, and so there was no prior knowledge of the region’s potential breeding sites.
Along with my colleagues from the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology, I’m trying to fill this gap. We’ve developed maps that predict where desert locusts could breed in Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan.
Our model, supported by a machine learning algorithm, establishes a relationship between historical data from around the world on desert locust breeding sites.
It also factors in climate and soil characteristics that are necessary for locusts to lay their eggs, and for the eggs to hatch.
Breeding sites can consist of anywhere between 40 to 80 million locusts within a square kilometre.
There is a need to target these high-risk areas and strengthen ground surveillance to manage the locusts in a timely, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly manner.
At-risk areas
Using the model, we’ve identified and mapped potential breeding regions of the desert locust in Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan.
Vast areas in Kenya are at high risk because they have the right conditions to support locust breeding. These areas include Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Marsabit, Turkana (all counties in North Eastern Kenya), and a few sites in Samburu county.
In Uganda, there are fewer possible breeding sites than in Kenya. These are restricted to the north-eastern regions, specifically Kotido, Kaabong, Moroto, Napak, Abim, Kitgum, Moyo, and Lamwo districts.
South Sudan is at risk of breeding in the northern regions and the south-east corner bordering Kenya. These sites exist in northern Bahr el Ghazal, Unity, Upper Nile, Eastern Equatoria, Warrap, Lakes, and some parts of Jonglei state.
Actions
In line with these predictions, ground and aerial surveillance efforts and monitoring of weather and vegetation variables in the predicted breeding regions needs to be strengthened significantly.
Financial, material and human resources will also need to be mobilised for timely management of the hopper bands when they emerge.
We, at the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology, have several suggestions on what must happen next:
Due to a large area for potential breeding of locusts, a permanent locust monitoring unit in Kenya must be established. It should consist of ground and aerial surveillance teams, locust biologists, socio-economists, remote-sensing experts and weather and vegetation forecasters.
A task force must be set up in Uganda to collaborate with Kenya’s monitoring unit. Based on the overall cover area of desert locust breeding suitability in Uganda, it may not be necessary to invest in constant monitoring in the country.
But the task force must collaborate closely with the Kenyan Locust monitoring unit and enhance preparedness for possible outbreaks and swarms.
Sustainable locust management interventions and associated mobilisation of financial, logistical and human resources need to be closely linked with strengthened locust monitoring efforts.
There must be a greater focus on sustainable and biological control options against locusts to mitigate adverse impacts of chemical pesticide-based locust control strategy.
We believe that biopesticide applications should become a cornerstone in managing locust outbreaks. Biopesticides need to be rapidly field tested in Kenya, commercialised and scaled up.
Finally, the current desert locust outbreak is triggered by a change in rainfall pattern which expands areas of potential invasion as a consequence of climate variability or change.
It is possible that, in future, other marginally suitable areas and conditions may become conducive for locust breeding.
Therefore, it is important to ramp up modelling efforts to understand the potential impacts of climate change on the current model predictions.
