Hello Jana!
Spud here, just stopping by to spread a little bit of positivity in your inbox 🐸🩷
I think I've seen your blog around a few times but never actually visited it until today and what a mistake because ahhhh a fellow Dave York Enjoyer!
GIRL SAME! Love that suburban murder daddy.
If villain why so babygirl 🥺
He's precious. I rewatched The Equalizer 2 with my friend at the weekend and then had a heated debate with him about how Dave York did nothing wrong actually and even if he did no he didn't (and he looked good while doing it!)
Anyway love your header and icon too, Pedro is truly the centre of the universe so true.
Thanks for interacting with me and I hope this will not be the last time we speak! Hope you enjoy the rest of your day, sending you a hug! 🤗🩷
hi spud, it’s so nice to meet you 🥹❤️
YES ANOTHER DAVE YORK APOLOGIST WELCOME TO THE TEAM!!
he’s amazing and didn’t do anything wrong EVER, he’s just troubled and maybe needs therapy and for me to suck him off and yeah if he committed murders he looked good while doing it 😌
you are so sweet, i can’t wait to talk to you more often and sending you the biggest hug right back <3

@celestialcrowley tagged me in an in-depth bio thing (thank u!!!) so here's some stuff about me:
real name: samuel's my full first name so let's say that?
nickname & nickname origins: sam!!! the only people who call me samuel are a couple of my friends when they sort of pretend to scold me, ha. or if they're singing little freak by harry styles but the line is "little freak, samuel" instead of "little freak, jezebel" (i have a tattoo of the words 'little freak' because of how much i love that song. i also am one i guess)
a couple people i know who are lotr fans call me samwise but i haven't read or watched lotr yet so i'm reluctant to accept this as a nickname hehe
sammi is what my sister and my very closest friends call me. if someone i'm not close to calls me that, my sister vetoes lol
ao3: sinchester
social media/s: i have all of the big ones but they're all personal accounts so</3
state country: i'm from the uk. always lived in london, it's the one true love of my life (and it's a character in good omens in its own right, fight me). i will answer ur state question in another way by saying that i usually visit the us once a year (usually for gigs and to see friends) and my last trip was to ny
pets: none</333 my grandparents have two lovely german sheps and a black cat which are my most precious loves though
hobbies: i like reading (fantasy, romance, twentieth-century poetry and nineteenth-century fiction mostly), writing (prose, screenplay and very bad poetry), live music/following tours, vinyl records, tea, whiskey, sitcoms, romcoms, and american traditional tattoos, among other things
personality: i have the most warped and harsh sense of self so i asked my best friend amy to describe my personality. this is what she said:
brb gonna go cry now
favourite holiday: christmas because i love christmas music of the easy listening jazz persuasion, and also because i love a lot of christmas films
favourite food: mac and cheese, bao buns, strawberries
favourite dessert: potentially cheesecake?
favourite colour: baby blue<3
favourite quote/s: "i am an unspeakable of the oscar wilde sort" / "not a southern pansy, the southern pansy", and in the same vein... "i'm not a big fat panda, i'm the big fat panda" / "there are heroes in the seaweed, there are children in the morning, they are leaning out for love and they will lean that way forever"
favourite book/s: call me by your name (sue me), good omens, the fables series, pride and prejudice (cliched i know sorry, i have read all of austen's work but it's her most popular for a reason), the scott pilgrim series, the spud series, the princess bride
favourite tv shows: good omens, avatar: the last airbender, peep show, supernatural (reluctantly), bob's burgers, arrested development, ghosts, yonderland. it's only just come out of course but honorary mention goes to scott pilgrim takes off
favourite film/s: shrek is my favourite of all time. it's just got everything. trust me, i went to film school (i actually did tho). then we've also got the nightmare before christmas, ferris bueller's day off, scott pilgrim, submarine, clueless, deadpool, the princess bride
favourite character/s: sam winchester, aziraphale, crowley, katara, sokka, jack and sally, kitty (ghosts), lucille bluth, envy adams, wallace wells
favourite actor/s: i've always found this a really difficult one to answer but i'll just say mae whitman because she's been in 3 of my favourite things ever and slayed all of them (avatar: the last airbender, arrested development and scott pilgrim)
favourite song/s: my favourite songs of all time are probably...
a certain romance - arctic monkeys
happiness/the gondola man - elliott smith
i used to be someone - kevin devine
i need some sleep - eels (shrek 2 teehee)
the way i loved you - taylor swift
let's call the whole thing off - louis armstrong and ella fitzgerald
that old feeling - frank sinatra (prefer his earliest version of this song to any other versions but i like ella's rendition too)
favourite music genre/s: i listen to pockets of all different guitar music, some pop and some jazz
favourite podcast/s: braving the elements, which is the official podcast for avatar: the last airbender and the avatarverse in general (hosted by the actor of zuko and the actor of korra!!!)
have you ever met a celebrity: oh god, erm... i've met so many musicians and actors (mostly actors that are less well-known) but i'll just mention the most famous ones. on purpose (some of whom i now regret lol): dua lipa, halsey, frank iero, brendon urie, jared padalecki, jensen ackles, jinkx monsoon (and loads of other drag race queens, but she's my favourite). by accident as they've come into my work: matt berry (i died), rob delaney, a couple of actors from sex education, sharon rooney (i actually bumped into her on the way to work oops). people i see around my local area or my area of work but haven't met: graham coxon from blur, peter capaldi, olly alexander. i know i've forgotten people but they'll come back to me hah - living in north london and working in central london means you do tend to see famous people sometimes
have you ever been to a concert: not sure exactly how many but my estimate is 200+. one band i've seen 37 times alone... but yeah, i follow two tours a year on average and then i'll go to gigs as a one-off for artists i don't commit as hard to lmao
do you collect anything: vinyl and soft toys! i also like to have lots of different interesting teas in my cupboard
do you have any idols: not sure i could call anyone i like an idol of mine but i naturally want to be neil gaiman when i grow up. i also would absolutely love to be as good at words as leonard cohen was. i guess taylor swift because i love her more than almost any other musician and have done since i was 8 years old but... she's a person at the end of the day (and a billionaire which is questionable)
is there a real life friend you can be completely yourself with: i feel i can be entirely myself around @icanbeurangle, among a few other people from different parts of my life. the person who wrote my little personality bio above, along with our mutual friend, and then a couple of friends i've known since school. i've also got friends who started off as internet friends but are now irl friends (the uk is a small place) who come under this category uwu
where would you love to travel to: off the top of my head, new zealand and mexico. i'd also like to see more of wales (i only went once or twice as a small child)
random fact about yourself: i'm an identical twin? it doesn't feel random at all but yeah haha
if you made it this far without falling asleep, well done!!! thank u so much for reading, i hope u didn't bore u to tears<3 i've missed out a couple questions where i addressed them already in a previous answer
no pressure tags (but i want to read up on u all!!!): @raining-stars-somewhere-else @sad-chaos-goblin @crowleyslvt @indigovigilance @icanbeurangle @bowtiepastabitch @genderqueer-hippie

will make a proper memorial post someday, but stupidly feel the need to explain that my queue ran out a couple days ago because one of our dogs passed suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday and checking in on Tumblr has been the last thing on my mind.
I'm not sure when I stopped posting much about my personal life on here ... not that I ever have in a major way, but I still used to share some things occasionally. I usually used Facebook for that sort of thing though, but I deactivated my account there years ago during the pandemic when I realised I needed to go cold turkey for my mental health. ironically that wasn't long after I wrote one of my last (maybe the last??) posts about my dog Spud passing.
I want to do a nice long post about my 3 dogs and cat, and how special they all were - and are! only one of my dogs is still with us now, but she's slowing down too, precious darling - but I need things to feel a little less raw than they do now before I can do that

If you live in Tamriel. Which part of the region that you'll hate the most?
By weather alone, Winterhold. I have no doubt Red Mountain makes the winds there absolutely ridiculous, and I don't even need to mention how cold it would be.
What about you?

Alright, so everyone remembers how the basement's flooded, yes?
And we all remember how when we were all waiting for S4 they told us the season would end with somewhere filled with water?
What if something happens in the basement that causes something incredibly bad to happen, forcing Nandor to use a wish to repair the house, and possibly another wish to save eveyone?
I could be grasping straws, but the basement is clearly important, especially since Baby Colin keeps saying he puts holes in the basement walls, and from what we can see, *only* the basement walls

nineteen dollar ursula lore. who wants it 😩
okay this is actually just a leedle rundown on her old crew and some of the history that has Gone Down. i finally typed it up last night after literal months of stewing on it. so here we have it!! the crew of the scarlet serpent <3
Captain Evre, a tusked orc with a dark red complexion, the very serpent the ship was named after. The Serpent was gifted to her by her ex-lover and renown pirate True, who she seems to maintain a tentative relationship with. Many rumors have been spread as to how she got her scars, yet none have been confirmed. Though Evre is known for her ruthlessness and cunning, she does have one weakness: her adoptive daughter Precious.
First mate Ursula, a freckled aquamarine drow of mysterious background and infamous, like the rest of The Serpent, for her loose morals. Ursula took on a role similar to that of a quartermaster, responsible for keeping the crew in line. She is the unofficial second-in-command of The Serpent and one of the three de facto advisors to Evre, the other two being Reikhi and Avril. Before joining the crew, Ursula had escaped from her unfavorable living conditions in the Underdark in her late teens with her childhood friend and eventual girlfriend, Talyss. Her most notable feat from her time at sea was her defeat of a young kraken, which earned her celebratory spiraling tentacle tattoos under her eyes.
Boatswain Reikhi, a dwarf woman with medium brown skin, twice-braided black hair, and a pierced lip—long lusted after for her beauty prior to her life at sea. Reikhi oversees the supplies and stock of the ship, though her skill with a blade could only be bested by Evre. She has a playfully antagonistic relationship with fellow de facto advisor Avril, but this did not stop her from coming to his defense during a nasty gargoyle attack, winning her a scar wrought by the creature’s claws slashing across her cheek.
Sailing Master Avril, an olive-skinned wood elf who could easily be passed off as unremarkable were it not for his heterochromia—one eye brown, one eye red. Originally a ranger belonging to clan of druids, Avril had an almost intrinsic talent for charting the stars. His responsibilities are to navigate the seas and chart courses. Reikhi believes he has a stick lodged in his ass, but the truth is he is just as bad as the rest of them, just more cautious.
Carpenter Talyss, a pale indigo drow who joined The Serpent with Ursula many years ago. While Ursula had a fondness for sneaky tricks and shadows, Talyss, the softer of the two, took to more artisanal pursuits. Her carpentry and bardic charm combined with Ursula’s shifty pickpocketing kept them afloat for a long while in the Underdark. On The Serpent she is responsible for repairing the ship and healing and possibly providing prostheses for injuries—most notable of these being Pollux, who lost his hand in an accident on deck. After an argument between Talyss and Ursula over the fate of a boy they were holding captive, Talyss was kidnapped and supposedly murdered by the crime lord the boy worked for. Talyss, ever the superstitious one, used to wear a pendant to bless their travels—which Ursula now wears.
Cannoneer, the Disgraced Lord Balen Firelight. After a devastating experimental explosion (as Balen calls it, a “mishap”) wrecked two stories of Lord Balen’s ancestral home—the second explosion of its kind—his family disgraced him, cutting off all funding for his exploits and banning him from all properties. Balen jumped at the opportunity to put his “talents” to use on The Serpent, and despite his frivolous hats, merry catchphrases, and uncomfortably thick mustache, Evre was charmed and allowed him aboard. Balen is easy to spot—just look for a huge feathered hat and listen for the word “tallyho!”
Deckhand Pollux, a half-elf boy with rich black skin and thick hair. Pollux was a stowaway found by Reikhi as he rifled through a barrel of potatoes (this later earned him the nickname “spud”). When Reikhi brought him before Evre, Ursula was the one to vouch for him. In an accident involving a loose rope and a heavy crate—and too far out to sea to seek a healer—Pollux’s hand was amputated by Talyss; later he was given a mechanical prosthesis crafted by Talyss and Balen. Still too young to do much more than just chores, Pollux is most often found perched in the crow’s nest with a spyglass in hand.
Deckhand Precious, a dark blue tiefling with flat horns and fiery orange curls. When Precious was a mere toddler, her father Lawless, an old friend of Evre and True’s, sought Evre out. He was plagued and dying and knew no one else who was willing to take in a tiefling baby, and Evre, hurting for her old friend, could only promise to take care of her. More than a decade later, Precious has become a breath of fresh air aboard The Serpent. She found she has an affinity for cooking. Follow the sound of clanging pots and melodic humming and you’ll soon find Precious.
Pirate Queen True, a pale magenta tiefling with teal green hair and, most notably, a missing eye covered by a patch. Shrouded in mystery save for her solid reputation for being bad news, True has ruled the sea for decades. Many boasted their sightings of True, but with little to ever back their claims, she became more a myth than a legend, and she encouraged this—“Everything you’ve heard is true.” The infamy and intrigue surrounding her grew when she suddenly vanished after a schism between her, Evre, and Lawless, whose trio of ships were previously never far apart. Evre herself did not know where her ex-love had gone and was content in leaving it a mystery—until she reappeared on the deck of The Scarlet Serpent fifteen years later with a gaping black hole in her chest.
#WOW I NEVER POSTED THIS. OK.#it’s so cringe#some of this has probably been updated on my word doc but. anyway. continue with the tags i put:#i know this timeline is kinda difficult to follow but basically#true + evre + lawless rule the seas for a good twenty years. the schism happens and true vanishes.#two years later lawless finds evre and gives her precious#around this time ursula and talyss are now in their twenties and have already been on the surface for a couple years#that’s when they join#and ursula like. loves it. the sun. the fresh air. the sea spray. the s u n.#anyway they sail together for about a decade before they have their disagreement and talyss storms off and let’s the boy go and subsequently#dies. and it like. ruins ursula. like they were all morally ambivalent before but this RUINS her. in her eyes she was right. the boy led#dangerous people back to them and it cost talyss her life and she knew she should have killed him.#in her eyes he was a young man not a boy. he was seventeen or eighteen. talyss kept insisting he was a child. she was always the softer one#SO. lmao. anyway. true shows up again out of nowhere with a fucking black vortex in her chest and refuses to speak about it#and evre is like. pissed. but also. so relieved she’s okay. and just. she lets her stay even though true isn’t saying anything.#and it’s like oooh mysterious~~~ what did true do~~#and then the events of bg3 happen lmao#also#obviously they have more deckhands and such but these are the Important Ones <3#ALL THIS UNNECESSARY LORE AND FOR WHAT JASMINE. FOR WHAT.#anyways.txt#oh i neglected to mention their cat. i am a fool. a buffoon.#they have a cat. he’s white and likes fish and they all love him. except balen. because he hates balen and his idiot hat#ch: ursula

Chapter 7, Chapter 8, Chapter 9
Chapter 10
New Beginnings
The new home in Monterey was a haven for them in many ways but as Kerry entered her 19th week, Keanu’s mood seemed to slump and he began having regular nightmares.
He’d wake up, dripping in sweat and wild-eyed, trying not to disturb Kerry. Sometimes it was a memory of Ava, others it was Kerry experiencing the stillbirth or he’d be plagued by horrific scenes of Kerry screaming covered in blood. He didn’t share what was going on, not wanting to scare her, but one night, he flailed about so much that she woke and had to shake him awake to stop it.
After fetching him a herbal tea for his frayed nerves, she addressed the issue.
“Keanu, I know there’s something you’re not telling me. It’s like when I didn’t come to Florida, you bottled up whatever was bothering you and I couldn’t reach you but you can tell me anything. If you’re scared about the baby, about losing them, please don’t think that I’m not, don’t think you can’t share that”
He drew in a sharp breath and she knew she’d landed on the truth
“But”
“But nothing, I’m here and I’m scared too. Every day I feel that fear and I give myself a stern talking to at the start of the day but it never fully goes away. We should share our fears, or we can talk to someone, a counselor - remember the midwife said that was available when we first registered with them. Or you said you saw a therapist a while back, would that be better? Someone you already have a relationship with? And come with me tomorrow to see the midwife, you can hear the heartbeat, that always makes me feel better”
He hugged her close.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have kept it from you. I just didn’t want to burden you with my demons”
“A problem shared….” She offered
“Is a problem halved” he replied.
“Exactly” she said giving him a gentle kiss.
Keanu couldn’t quite shake the nightmares, but things did get easier from then on. They would joke about tag-teaming on being O for optimistic versus SS for shit scared trying to not both hit SS mode at the same time.
And as they hit new milestones like the 20-week scan and feeling the baby move, at last they had regular reassurances that all was well. There were some panicky moments, first with Kerry developing anemia which caused her to faint a couple of times before they figured out the cause. Fortunately, she’d just fallen onto the bed and the sofa so there was no harm done. The second panic, however, was rather more serious.
Kerry was 37 weeks along, feeling like a beached whale but still managing to walk Scout each day. Their home had stone steps leading down to the shore and on this day, she’d set off alone with Scout. Keanu had forgotten his shades and had popped back inside to fetch them.
What he found as he made his way down the steps to join her was Kerry sitting on one of the steps in tears, grazes on her knee and elbow, and a very sore behind and wrist.
“Shit shit shit, what happened?”
“lost my balance” she sniffed “and went down like a sack of spuds, but I didn’t fall on bump, put my hand out, owww”
Keanu had to go into calm mode, swallowing down his rising panic and do his utmost to reassure her.
“Can you stand? Let’s get you up and over to the ER, get you checked out”
He helped her to stand, trying to avoid bashing the sore wrist which he feared could be broken, and slowly they got back up to the house with Scout whining his concern all the way there.
Having got her a drink, he quickly found the hospital bag and got her settled in the car before setting off, repressing the instinct to drive as fast as possible. He had precious cargo on board.
When Kerry was examined, they found that the fall had indeed started things off and she was already 3 cm dilated.
“No turning back now” he said smiling, still trying to be the calm one.
Kerry had a heart monitor strapped around her belly at this point and they could hear the rapid but steady beat of the baby’s heart.
She took his face in her hands and kissed him, feeling a great sense of calm come over her, enough for the both of them.
“Keanu, it’s going to be OK, do you hear that? That’s our baby and they are coming, don’t worry. They are coming.”
Her head fell back on the pillow then as a contraction hit. He held her hand feeling both the power of new life battling to be set free and her power in helping it come to fruition. That’s when he let all the fear go, all the awful images and memories of his nightmares floated away and finally, he was in the moment, helping his son come into the world.
It would be 6 long hours of sweat, screams and pain but baby Jago Alexander Reeves came into the world, screaming bloody murder to the delight of his parents and the staff looking after them. It was a tad earlier than expected but there had been no harm done from Kerry’s tumble and luckily her wrist was just sprained, not broken. She’d need some help with feeding at first, but Dad was on hand to do whatever was required.
They were home 2 days later and despite their mature years, still felt that same sense of shock that all parents feel, that the medics had actually let them come home to be in sole charge of this tiny infant. They plonked him in his car seat on the floor and sat beside him on the sofa, just staring down at him, in awe of his tiny fingers and fingernails, tiny everything.
Kerry’s phone pinged and she saw there was a notification of a new Griefcast episode. She had sent Cariad a picture of Jago the day before and decided to hit play on instinct. They both listened as the podcast began.
“Hey Griefsters, hope you’re having an OK week, I know it can be a tough time with dark nights and Christmas around the corner. Before we get to this week’s guest, I just wanted to share a truly lovely, uplifting story that just filled me with joy yesterday. You may remember that I interviewed Keanu Reeves, about a year ago now about the death of his daughter many years ago when she was stillborn. Well, Keanu met a lady last year and she, clever woman, introduced him to this little show and persuaded him to come on. Well turns out, he fell in love with her and now they’re together and 2 days ago they had the most beautiful baby boy, Jago. So I just wanted to say a big congratulations to the three of them and wish them all the happiness in the world with their new family.”
Kerry looked over at Keanu, tears in her eyes, only to see Keanu had given up the battle. He pulled her close and held her in his arm until Jago stirred and their parenting journey truly began.
THE END

Natter #4 7/4/2020
MI MG Natter #4 4th July 2020I hope you all have had a happy fourth - all fingers still attached and tummies filled. Pickle seems to be getting used to the bangs this year, or perhaps he is a little deaf. Usually, at the first bang, he disappears and hides under my bed. This time he has wandered upstairs and downstairs and doesn't seem to register the bangs much at all - which is good.
I am in contact with a guy back home who runs a regular allotment (PeaPatch here) blog, giving timely advice and other information related mostly to veggie & fruit culture. I find this very helpful as he jogs my memory on those extremely rare occasions when I forget. I know you think that I never forget, but I have to admit that there has been the occasional lapse ever since I stopped eating peanuts. Strange thing that. His words for July remind us that this month is the time to sow seeds for Fall and Winter veggie crops such as Chicory (does anybody actually grow this?), Chinese Cabbage, Kohl Rabi, Lettuce, French Beans, Beetroot, Carrots, Radish, Turnips, and Peas - pick early varieties - early Snow peas are an especially fast to crop
.If you have had the forethought to already start Leeks from seed, now is the time to plant out those starts. The easiest way to do this is to use an old broomstick handle and thrust it vertically into the soil to a depth of about 5-6".Just drop the seedlings carefully, roots first into the holes and then just water in - that's all you need to do. The water will wash soil from the sides of the holes down onto the roots and it will remain cool and moist enough to thoroughly root the seedlings well. The idea of doing it this way, apart from the ease of planting and gaining support from the sides, is that the hole blanches the stem of the leek as it grows to gain more usable parts of the plant. If they are kept reasonably moist they should grow quite rapidly through the Summer and be ready to make fabulous potato-leek soup in time to keep cold days at bay. If you have never eaten P-L soup accompanied by chunks of Crusty artisan bread generously spread with butter - you haven't lived. Food of the Gods this! If you have been growing spuds and have lifted them already, you can follow with a crop of French beans to both nourish yourself and the soil, or if beans aren't your thing try a green manure crop such as Mustard. However, bear in mind that if you have ever had Club Root on your cabbage family plants, do not use Mustard as it is also a brassica. Use one of the Pea family, both for the Nitrogen root boost, but also for the foliage. And now for something completely different:- Once more my friend Valerie Robertson has presented her view on things English on the other side of the pond and is sent all over the world.
Val is a very highly qualified State Registered Nurse who knows whereof she speaks.
Here we go.
From: Valerie Robertson GAG 14 Hope all is well with all. All Quiet in the Western Front over this way. Seattle’s CHOP was liberated leaving an appalling mess The pubs are open today so the protesters have disappeared. BLMUK. is proving to be an embarrassment to those who donated, bent the knee and supported a cause that advocates the abolition of the nuclear family (that means dad is superfluous), defund the police, destroy capitalism and support censorship plus the necessity for every white person to acknowledge that they are all subconsciously racist and privileged, and own up to the “fact” that every institution is inherently racist and disproportionally White supremacy managed. That’s a big ask, which has bewildered the millionaire black footballers, academics & artists, Labour leader Sir Keith what’s his name, (why would a Labour leader accept a knighthood?) and all the national institutions taking the knee, which the other men in the street saw, as bowing to street fighter activists outrageous demands. Ie supporting racial divide and suppressing diversity of opinions and abolishing history. Our moral leader Canterbury Arch Runcton, is also confused. He’s a woke bloke that got it wrong at Easter. Streaming his Easter service from his kitchen with his toaster in the background. For God's sake, he must have a parlour with a row of books as a backdrop, in his palatial abode. He’s now having a think about the effigies in the Cathedral and wondering which ones to get rid of. Should he paint Jesus black? Jesus loves all the children of the world, be they yellow, black or white. What about the brown ones? They were precious in His sight too? He’s going to need a lot of colours. The Bournemouth beach sunbathing nutters are bright pink still. The Cambridge academia have just funded a two-year study into the history of slavery to enable the oiks to confront their iniquitous past and say sorry to all offended by history. Waste of time, as it’s been done before, over and over and you can’t change it. I’ve got a better idea for them to study. Research the Benin bronzes. There are 3,OOO of them but only 500 left in Nigeria, the rest in Europe and USA museums. They are exquisite. The Portuguese kicked off the Atlantic slave trade in 1400 from the port of Benin with gold, which the Africans turned into these fantastic plaques, I think but not sure. I’m too busy doing my epidemic virus studies to go to the British Museum and find out. And we are not allowed yet, to visit Portugal unless keen enough to fly to Spain and walk across the border to check up on the museum artifacts in Lisbon. It’s good to see Lewis Hamilton constructively addressing inequality in the motor racing world. The aggrieved black community can be placated and inspired by their own incredibly successful race if they listen. We have diversity, we have opportunity, we have laws, education, healthcare, social services, state welfare funding and overall, a tolerant multicultural society, who are very tired of the woke politically-correct champagne socialists agenda over the last decade. There are deep social and economic injustices which are nothing to do with slavery or racial prejudice. Lewis Hamilton lives in Monte Carlo to save paying a hefty U.K. income tax liability. He was raised in Stevenage and lived in a council house with his family partially supported by the welfare state. Is he a philanthropist who promotes the welfare of others by donating money for schools etc.? No he’s not if he’s a British citizen tax evader. Is he a Monacoan now.? Is he a hypocrite? I don’t know? Perhaps the academics can ask the uni students to research, write a paper and make up their own minds. Estate agents will not in future be using Master Bedroom in their ads. Connotations of slave masters etc. Uncle Bens rice is to be repackaged without the jolly black man, Aunt Jemima also and awaiting more news re. MasterCard, Master chef, Master Mind, Headmaster ( the lefty teachers union still keeping schools shut) Masters degree, a tricky one for Cambridge. We are living with the virus and hanging in with our self-imposed restrictions and socially distancing. The copper masks and latex gloves worked a treat when John needed to visit the GP surgery for a blood test to check prostate antigen level insomuch not coughing. Although London has seen a slight rise in the R rate, no doubt due to the mass protests, the infection rate remains stable and patients being more successfully treated with drugs, to avoid intensive care. The disproportionate ethnic infection rate is due to blood group, genetic disparity, and body mass ratio, and a difference in the percentage of T cells. These cells decline with age and are responsible for fighting off infection without causing a major auto-immune response. People past 65, have very few left. This theory explains why the young can come in contact with the virus but don’t succumb, however, if repeatedly exposed will catch it and manufacture antibodies and can still remain asymptomatic. Mass testing suggests that 40 percent of the population has been exposed with few symptoms, the silent spreaders who have the herd immunity. So we know the virus is still around and can’t trust the idiots to self-isolate if positive. All we can hope for is that they wear a mask and keep away from the elderly. Once the herd immunity and those who have recovered from it reach 60 percent, providing the medically vulnerable and fatties avoid it, the virus will find no host, cannot, therefore, multiply and shed and theoretically die away. So it’s a balance. As the months go on there is hope for more preventive medication to alleviate the symptoms and of course a vaccine. Last October, the WHO found that U.K. and USA were the best in the world prepared for a pandemic. Cameron had placed an order for millions of PPE equipment with a French company with the deposit to fund the manufacturer to make it. By the time U.K. needed it, we got the deposit refunded but the stocks were needed in France and they had sold some items at a higher price, to Italy. That’s Globalisation for you and the free market. Meanwhile, a couple who were distilling boutique gin in the midlands, altered their equipment to distill hand sanitizers and viral cleansing fluids as NHS were buying it in from abroad at an inflated price. They now supply the NHS cheaply and in the past 12 weeks have made 30 million pounds profit. Well done as they are donating a substantial amount to Covid research. No doubt as a tax saving incentive, but still commendable. There’s a lot to be said for self-reliance. The govt. with its 80 strong SAGE - the Scientific, Advisory Government Epidemic advisors, have caused the pandemonium. At the outset, the models and graphs predicting the scale have been proved wrong. Simple precautions were overlooked. Emptying geriatric wards, filling up care homes with staff untrained in infection control was scandalous. Mask wearing should have been made compulsory on public transport, supermarkets and shops at the outset and at least some sort of temperature checking and contact tracing at airports and ferries. So, onto local lockdowns and long term containment. Boris is getting on with Brexit and left Hanlon to contain the virus, Hope the strategy works. I have faith in the laboratory’s scientists and the trials and the guinea pigs testing the emerging vaccines. Meanwhile, tomatoes coming along, being well-nourished and in good shape and we are up to four playing again at croquet. Sainsbury delivering without hassle and Miles and Giles still surprising me with a tablespoon of Baharat in a nifty environment-friendly container. It made the lamb taste different. The kennels are open but missed the boat as all the rescue dogs are adopted and long waiting lists for puppies.
A dog called Nigger, I imagine a black or brown Labrador, who was loved and died in 1878, had a headstone in the animal cemetery in a Sussex village graveyard. The local stonemason has ground away the name as the villagers thought it might cause offence to visitors and that dog’s owners would understand as they were dead anyway and not around to ask permission. Just love kind people. The drought's over and it’s cool as we are and hope you are too. Take care Love from Val And from your fearless leader,Gordon

Hassleback Potatoes with Almond, Spinach and Parsley/Basil pesto (vegan & gluten-free)
Firstly, may I begin by saying a huge THANK YOU. My new book The Goodness of Nuts & Seeds is now ‘finally’ on the shelves and now that I have had a little time to reflect (short term anyway: before I jet off to Australia for a book promotional tour in two days!), I feel so grateful to all of you that have showed your support these past few months. Whether you’ve come out to an event, book signing, reposted a recipe on your own blog, sent me a message of love, or happy vibes through the ether, I have felt it all and will carry the collective experience with me always. I am officially overwhelmed with gratitude. It’s been a very fulfilling time for me, but if I’m being honest, it’s also been a very challenging one. There hasn’t been much in the way of breaks (or breathing) and as someone who is perpetually beating the drum of balance and wellness, I have recently started to make a conscious effort towards putting sacred and precious time aside whilst focusing on what’s ‘really’ important…such as eating well again. I am however also realistic - and with that have an awareness we all lead very busy lives. And so in the manner of practising what I preach and with spring just around the corner (rejoice!) I’m introducing an all new set of quick, delicious and healthy recipes, just without any risk of lengthy time-frame! Cooking beautiful meals for company with a carefully planned menu is one thing, but being able to whip up five semi-quick, easy going delicious meals Monday through to Friday without extra trips to the supermarket is another. In my opinion, it’s actually much more difficult.
So. These Hassleback potatoes with almond, spinach and parsley/basil pesto is truly a match-made in heaven - and fuss-free to boot. Satisfying in all the ways that count; filling without making you feel ‘full’, and a salty (from the crisp roast potatoes) and sweet (from the toasted almonds and delicate herbs) balance of flavours which confidently ticks that all-important satiating/nutritious box. I sometimes serve this dish with glistening lamb chops or shoulder of lamb - slow-cooked to the point where its silky soft meat falls off the bone. Golden-skinned chicken thighs are equally wonderful served alongside - which I pop in the oven 25 minutes before the end of the potatoes cooking time, simply drizzled with a little olive oil, then the skin brushed with some of the nutty pesto and a little sea salt/pepper sprinkled over. Poached eggs work very well too as does adding kale, beans, tomatoes and onion for a vegan-friendly accompaniment (add to the pan for the last 15 minutes of roasting) - or you can simply serve solo as it also stands alone just as it is for the perfect meal on any given Wednesday night. (For again non-vegans, a crumbling of goats cheese over the potatoes when they come out of the oven is also a welcome salty - yet creamy - addition!)
The history bit! There has been a lot of welcome excitement for the humble spud recently, and most of this is due to a special technique of cooking them - which falls under the appropriate name, the ‘Hassleback’. This involves a simple technique of slicing each one thinly (but not all the way through), drizzling with fat and baking them until the edges are crispy and the middle is creamy and soft. Suddenly this resurgence all makes sense! Hassleback potatoes were apparently invented at a restaurant in Stockholm in the 1950’s as a method to shorten the baking time but since then they have certainly made a comeback and have been increasingly popular over the last couple of years. This is my all-time favourite way of serving them. I urge you to give them a go!
Hassleback Potatoes with Almond, Spinach and Parsley/Basil Pesto
The pesto can be made ahead and stored in the fridge, covered, for up to 10 days. The baking time can vary depending on the potato size and variety. Smaller potatoes will need a little less time. Serves 2-3, or 4 served with additional serving suggestions as above
For the pesto (makes about 300g) 150g almonds, toasted 1 small lemon, zest and a good squeeze of juice a large handful of young leaf spinach (about 40g) a handful each of fresh basil and parsley leaves (about 30g total) 1 small clove of garlic, crushed 1 tsp sea salt About 150ml olive oil (I like to use ½ rapeseed and ½ ex-virgin olive oil but use whatever you have to hand)
1kg new potatoes olive oil for drizzling
1. Begin by making the pesto. Toast the almonds in a dry pan for a few minutes , or until toasted (keep a close eye on them as they turn quite quickly!) In a food processor or powerful high-speed blender, pulse 25g of the almonds until you reach a medium to fine crumb. Set aside until needed. Add the remaining almonds and pulse again for 5-10 seconds before adding the lemon, spinach, herbs, garlic and salt. Sprinkle in a little pepper too. Process until just roughly chopped but not too fine as you want a rustic and textured pesto), then carefully pour in the oil whilst the motor is running. When you reach your desired consistency (you want the mix to be soaked in the oil and still a bit thick, but not saturated in it. The nuts soak up the oil over time so you can be more liberal if you are making this ahead, but remember you can always add more before serving!) Transfer to a bowl and set aside until needed, or cover and place in the fridge if you are making this in advance. 2. Preheat your oven to 180C, fan 160C. Slice each potato thinly, stopping each cut about two-thirds into the potato, leaving the bottom intact. Some people find this easier by placing the potatoes inside a large spoon so that the edges of the spoon will then stop the knife from cutting too deep. I prefer the old school way of just slicing and using my eye - but you have the option. 3. Place the potatoes on a large baking tray and drizzle with a generous amount of oil (again whatever you have to hand - but best to use your more special stock for the pesto), then sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake for 30 minutes, then brush the potatoes all over with some of the pesto, making sure you’re picking up some oil too. The potatoes should have started to fan out slightly which will make it easier to allow some of the oil to fall between the slices too. 4. Bake for about another 20 minutes for average-sized new potatoes - you may need more or less so you can always check after 10-15 minutes to see whether they are cooked and golden. 5. Sprinkle the reserved chopped almonds on top of the remaining pesto. You can also add a little more oil for a fancy look :) The potatoes are especially delicious served warm to hot with ‘at room temperature’ pesto on the side. (Occasionally with this dish, I receive a lot of joyous, happy faces from a ‘dip and go’ style of serving!)

Meal-Prep 5 Paleo Dinners With Just 8 Ingredients
Calling for delivery or going the restaurant route may sound like taking the easy way out on busy weeknights, but if you’re going Paleo, those may not even be viable options—pizza and pad Thai definitely aren’t on any caveman diets! Save yourself the hassle (and the money) of eating out, and enjoy healthier, cheaper, and still-tasty meals from Sunday to Thursday with this ridiculously easy plan. With just eight ingredients and a bit of prep on Sunday, you’ll have stress-free, Paleo-friendly dinners covered for the week.
STEP 1:
Head to the grocery store.
Jot down these eight ingredients to pick up on your Sunday grocery run. You may not be able to escape the lines, but with a list handy, you’ll at least zip through the aisles, knowing exactly what you need.
Shopping List
8 ounces boneless, skinless chicken breast
6 ounces fresh shrimp
2 sweet potatoes
6 eggs
2 zucchini
1 avocado
3 cups baby spinach (you can always use a small fresh bunch but a bagged version saves you the step of washing and cutting thick stems)
1 small head cauliflower
Storage Containers
6 airtight containers (2 for cooked sweet potatoes, 1 for shrimp, 1 for chicken, 1 for spiralized zucchini, and 1 for cauliflower rice)
Plastic wrap for avocado
Kitchen Staples
Cooking fat (olive or coconut oil, ghee, etc.)
Sea salt and pepper
Garlic powder
Lemon juice
Hot sauce/red pepper flakes
STEP 2:
Prep ingredients in 30 minutes.
Take an hour or so on Sunday to prepare your ingredients. It may not sound appealing to use up precious weekend time to plan ahead, but trust us—you’ll thank yourself later in the week when you’re home from an exhausting day and can’t imagine cooking a meal from scratch.
1. Cook the chicken. Use this foolproof method for moist chicken. The meat will last up to four days in the fridge, so make it on Sunday, and we’ll show you how to use it up by Wednesday. Store in an airtight glass container. 2. Cook the shrimp. Peel and devein the shrimp (or save yourself a step and purchase them already prepped). Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a pan and add the shrimp. Add salt and pepper. Sauté until the shrimp go from gray to pink. Cool completely and store in airtight containers. Cooked shrimp can keep for up to three days in the refrigerator; cook it right before you use it on Tuesday, and the leftovers will still be good to go on Thursday. 2. Roast the sweet potatoes. Cube one potato and toss the pieces with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Leave the other one whole. Place the whole tater, plus the cubes, onto a sheet pan, and roast for 30 minutes. The whole spud may need an extra 15-30 minutes. Store the roasted cubes and the baked sweet potato in separate airtight containers. 3. Prep the eggs. Hard-boil four of the eggs and leave two of them raw. You can store the hard-boiled eggs for up to one week. 4. Dice and zoodle zucchini. Dice one zucchini and spiralize the other (if you don’t have a spiralizer, just use a peeler to create noodle-like “strips”). You’ll use the diced veggies right away, but store the spirals in an airtight container. 5. Make cauliflower “rice.” Break the cauliflower into florets and place them in a food processor. Pulverize until the florets resemble rice, then store in an airtight container. 6. Store avocado and baby spinach. Bagged spinach is usually washed and ready to use, so no prep necessary there. Leave the avocado untouched until you’re ready to slice into it. Once it's cut open, add some olive oil to the flesh, then wrap in plastic so it lasts longer.
STEP 3:
Enjoy ready-made Paleo dinners all week long.
Now that you’ve prepped your ingredients, time in the kitchen during the week just got drastically slashed. This means more time to watch The Bachelor. Check out what’s on the menu from Sunday to Thursday.
Sunday "Brinner"
1/2 prepped cauliflower rice
Diced zucchini
2 cups spinach
2 eggs
We promise this is the most cooking you’ll do all week! Heat a teaspoon of olive oil in a skillet and add two beaten eggs. Cook for two to three minutes before letting them cool and dicing into small pieces. Set aside. In the same skillet, heat up a tablespoon of olive or coconut oil, and add the zucchini. Stir for about four minutes until tender. Then add the cauliflower rice, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir for another three to four minutes before adding in two cups of baby spinach. Stir until the spinach has wilted. Store half the mixture in an airtight container for lunch tomorrow. Add eggs to the half remaining in the skillet. Feel free to jazz it up with any other favorite kitchen staples. Obviously, we are talking about hot sauce.
Meaty Monday
4 ounces chicken
Roasted sweet potato cubes
1/4 avocado
1 cup spinach
How to eat: Warm up the chicken and toss it onto a bed of spinach, along with sweet potato cubes and diced avocado, for an entrée-size salad.
No-Taco Tuesday
Rest of the cauliflower rice
3 ounces shrimp
2 hard-boiled eggs
How to eat: Warm up the cauliflower rice in the microwave. Cook the shrimp according to the instructions in Step 2 (above) and add half to the “rice.” Store the other half of the shrimp in an airtight container after it’s completely cooled. Add sliced eggs on top for ever more protein.
Workout Wednesday
1/4 avocado
4 ounces chicken
2 hard-boiled eggs
Baked sweet potato
How to eat: Reheat the baked sweet potato in the microwave by wrapping it in a damp paper towel and nuking until it’s warmed through, two minutes or so. Dice the chicken and eggs, and stir into the mashed avocado along with salt and pepper. Spoon the mixture into the heated sweet potato. Add a few (or 20) dashes of hot sauce.
Time-Saving Thursday
3 ounces shrimp
1/2 avocado
Spiralized zucchini
How to eat: Mash the avocado with a teaspoon of olive oil and a dash each of lemon juice, garlic powder, and sea salt. Stir with the zucchini noodles (you can either leave the zoodles raw or give them a quick stir over the stove to get them tender). Top with the leftover cooked shrimp from Tuesday.
