The problem with DJ
Like I said, sweetie gets his own post lol. It's funny how far he's come, from a random side character made just to be killed off, to my go-to RP boy, to my favorite character I've ever written. I'll skip the origin story lol (aka the irrelevant random RPs over the years) and get right to the meat of the problem: Crossroads.
It all really comes back to my flaky friend, A. Back when she was creative and invested, she made this crazy girl, Casey, who DJ fell head-over-heels in love with. Casey was highly toxic and came with some unusual baggage, but that's what I loved about her as a character. And honestly? Every girl in DJ's life is kind of toxic. That was rather the point.
DJ describes himself as "a walking, talking stereotype." He's a broke, drug-addicted teen from the wrong side of the tracks with an abusive alcoholic father. His mother committed suicide when DJ was 4, and DJ's been an addict since he was 13. He's also got ADHD, and he's a genius. Sleeps through the few classes he actually attends and still gets straight As genius. He's got two distinctly different groups of friends: his more straight-laced school friends (most of whom have known him since pre-drug days), and his rave/burnout friends. He's also an indiscriminate (ish XD) manwhore. He'll sleep with literally any girl who shows interest, as long as he's not her first (ties into his lack of self-worth and stuff. he doesn't want anyone to be "stuck with" the memory of him as her first - Casey straight-up lies to his face to get him to fuck her 😂 I love her. she's so awful...)
I eventually gave him a little brother, because I'd never put much thought into why DJ - who, again, is scary smart, and also unnervingly self-aware; pretty much impervious to denial - would do drugs. When he was just a random RP character, I...didn't really care? 😂 His background and motivations were less important than the hijinks he got himself into. But then A fell as hard for him as I did, and we decided to give him a real story, so he needed a real motive. Enter baby brother AJ, who is their father's true target, so DJ does stupid shit to piss dad off and keep those fists flying at him, not baby bro.
When DJ meets Casey, he's drunk and high and accidentally gropes her. She punches him and knocks his ass out lmao. He later apologizes, and she and her twin brother Seamus join DJ's school friend group, and she and DJ become fwb. That's the most he can really offer; DJ doesn't date, because he knows he won't be faithful, so why string a girl along? Naturally, because he's book smart but otherwise kind of a moron (lol not really, just no will to live. he tried to kill himself 3 times before he was introduced to drugs. his friends keep warning him about STDs and he's like "eh, death by karma actually sounds pretty apropos") he ends up getting Casey (and a couple of other girls) pregnant.
One of those other girls is his dealer/rave bestie, Luna. Aside from Casey and her family, here is the biggest divergence between the story A and I worked out together, and the one I'm now writing alone. A hated Luna; she hated anyone who was competition for Casey, because she'd latched so hard onto this DJ/Casey pairing that everything that could have been something for them to overcome, she just saw as a threat that needed to be squashed. So she insisted on killing off not just the baby (Lu was always going to miscarry), but also Luna. Y'all... that hurt. A lot. I adore Luna. I'd sooner kill off DJ (and in fact, there's a version of the story where he ODs and dies, and Casey eventually marries AJ). I did not want to kill Luna. But for the sake of not arguing with A forever, I did, and it became a huge part of the overall story, because DJ was in love with Luna. I saw this as an opportunity to explore poly love. A was just like "fuck that. kill her. want a poly ship? Thow Izzie-" (one of DJ's school friends, Izumi) "-into the mix! Casey likes her!" Gods forbid I wanted a little friction and compromise, people finding common ground and learning to live together. DJ likes Izzie, he does. And Izzie canonically does have a huge crush on him. But she's possessive and catty - just like Casey - and they would have imploded.
When I decided to remove A from the equation, my first impulse was "fuck yeah! I don't have to kill Luna! LUNA STAYS, BITCHES!!!" but like...
Now I have to rework DJ's entire arc, because his crippling grief and guilt over her death drove pretty much the rest of his story.
Anyway, in the old version (with the three phases), in phase 1, DJ got clean, married Casey, and got his shit together. In phase 2, they were gender-swapped (there's a reason for that beyond a god's weird sense of humor lol but I'll get to that in a minute) and DJ went from a mousy drug-addicted pacifist to a deadly cleaner for Casey's Irish mob family. It all ties into which parent (s)he is afraid to reflect. male!DJ is terrified of becoming his father; female!DJ is disgusted by what she sees as her mother's weakness and refuses to be her. So while boy-Deej danced and played drums and never took a swing at anyone even in jest, girl-Deej was a fighter, and a damn angry one. In phase 3, back to being a boy and a druggie, DJ overdoses and dies. And the Goddess who'd been trying to get her hands on him this whole time finally manages it. See, Adaghar (god who gender-swapped DJ and Casey) knew about Larash's (goddess who wanted DJ) obsession, so he was trying to make sure DJ lived a long life and went to literally any afterlife that Larash couldn't reach. She finally gets him, and through a series of odd events, he ends up killing Adaghar and taking his place, becoming a god.
That's all gone. 😂 Now DJ's just DJ, no grand destiny or anything, just a kid with an awful home life who needs to clean his act up and do right by his kids. Honestly, that's enough imo. I still adore him and can't wait to get his story done so I can read it... but I'm totally stuck. I don't know how his story ends anymore. I know he can't end up with Luna even if she's alive because they'll end up strung out and on welfare for the rest of their short, painful lives. They are deeply, deeply in love with each other, but they're both tortured addicts and Luna has zero self control. Neither of them will ever get clean if they're together.
And like... that's not even getting into all the craziness with DJ's oldest son, Ari. Ari had different versions, too - one where DJ had no idea he existed until he was about 7 (and had gone through some shit, poor kid) and showed up on daddy's doorstep; that version grew to be an angry, snarky little shit and I love him to pieces. Then there's a version where DJ found him when he was 2 and cleaned his act up and Ari grew into a happy, well-adjusted kid. And obviously in the girl-DJ version, she, y'know, gave birth to him lmao so she knew about him. But Ari had this whole arc with a vampire and he moved to Achlys in one version, and in another (the one where DJ died) he was adopted by AJ and Casey and became a doctor, and... ugh. I love this kid. And now everything about him is a big question mark, even more so than DJ cuz - guess what? the vampire was A's character, too! 🙄😖
Blargh. I dunno, guys. I don't know what to do with this whole thing.

Who are your favorite league of legends and anime characters? I like learning more about cool people!
Ahhhh you’re so sweet, thank you!!
Well, for LoL favourites...
I’m a Support and Mid main, so I’m gonna say that some of my faves to play are:
Nami, Soraka, Sona, Yuumi, Rakan, Ahri, Janna, Thresh, Senna, Lux, Annie, Cassiopeia, Lulu, Orianna, Teemo, Twisted Fate, Poppy, Nasus, Zoe, Zed, Ziggs
And Pre-Rework: Katarina, Ezreal, Akali
Now, for those that I find super badass that aren’t on the list ^ ? Kayn, Xayah, Aphelios, Varus, Jinx, Jhin, Syndra, Pyke, Malzahar, Lissandra, Draven, Azir
Why? Well... I either don’t have them, I’m not too good with them, or they are ADC and I don’t really fancy that role, so I only play super rarely when I’m with friends, so if I INT I won’t get flamed.
As for Anime characters...Gods, a LOT of them, I could stay all day to write names.
But to say the first 10 girls and 10 boys that I love that come into my mind:
Girls:
1. Tsuyu Asui (BNHA) 2. Ochako Uraraka (BNHA) 3. Sieglinde Sullivan (Kuroshitsuji) 4. Elizabeth Midford (Kuroshitsuji) 5. Hinata Hyuga (Naruto) 6. Celestia Ludenberg (Danganronpa Trigger Havoc) 7. Chiaki Nanami (Super Danganronpa 2) 8. Kaede/Nyu (Elfen Lied) 9. Misaki Mei (Another) 10. Chiyuki (Death Parade)
Boys:
1. Uchiha Itachi (Naruto) 2. Shikamaru Nara (Naruto) 3. Dabi (BNHA) 4. Aizawa Shouta (BNHA) 5. Ichimaru Gin (Bleach) 6. Seto Kaiba (Yu-Gi-Oh) 7. Nagito Komaeda (Super Danganronpa 2) 8. Decim (Death Parade) 9. Karma Akabane (Assassination Classroom) 10. Alucard (Hellsing)
Hope this answers your question, but honestly, there are SO many more anime characters that I adore but I would be here one decade writing them haha x
If anyone wants to share their faves, you can either DM me or send through the ask or submit box <3 !

Oooh the 80's songs asks are SO GOOD. Gimme billie jean, uptown girl, born in the usa, take on me, footloose, i want candy, eye of the tiger, and karma chameleon. Tried to keep a short list but so good!
Thank you so much for asking, darling. This is under cut because I got very lengthy about ‘what is your home town like’ question.
Ask me 80′s iconic song ask?
billie jean: what do you notice more in a song - the drums or bassline?
Definitely the drums, I still have hard time distinguishing bass in most music. I know it’s there and if it’d go away, I’d terribly miss it, I appreciate it, but it’s like a caretaking spirit I can’t see for most of the time.
uptown girl: what’s your favourite book trope?
Same as fics, honestly? Good enemies to friends to lovers (foes to bros to hoes), for example. In a lot of ways, I don’t differentiate books from fanfictions that much, especially the romantic/tropey books...
born in the u.s.a.: what’s your home town like?
Hoo boy. This is such an invite to picture fest, but I’ll spare my followers, lol. My hometown is truly just a town, just some 25k people here. Nonetheless, it’s one of the biggest in the country, so there’s that. My town is someplace riddled with memories, someplace that I pass certain places with relief ‘ah, that store is still here, 20 years later’ or with twine of sadness if it is not. I draw comfort from the constant things and learn to accept the changes - the fixed roads, the bike trails, the truly prettified and taken care of small parks and mill pond area. For, yes, we have a mill pond with many ducks and a fountain, and lot of nice benches and trees.
And three parks, though only one is well maintained now and we, as community, rallied so more old trees wouldn’t be cut down unnecessarily - and won. It’s right next to the cinema, nice cafe and one of the banks in town, near our shopping mall and our local government building just a bit further which sits right next to almost 800 year old church and castle ruins. Across the street, there is bookstore, community center and clinic and now there’s a small concert hall in itself. That is how tiny and compact the heart of my city is, with young trees planted along the streets, with huge flower tiered flower bed in the center that in late November/early December becomes the standing spot for a towering Christmas tree, twinkling slightly into January.
But of course, there is much beyond the immediate reaches of this center. The marketplace. My actual favorite park near it, next to fire depot, with old trees that are weary from being forgotten and creaking swings, where benches rest under Jasmines, Lilacs and Linden that smell so sweetly in Spring. It’s near one of the schools (we have some 5, all over the city), the marketplace and the Millpond, the street surrounds it from both sides, yet it is a quiet place that the noises don’t reach, where the wind comes to sit on top of the swings and hum softly.
Our country’s biggest native river runs wide and steady through it, overlooked by three bridges of which one was recently rebuilt. I still remember crossing it and feeling the boards creak underneath my feet, as it was being rebuilt/reworked. As you come off of it, on your right there is part of our University and our big library in same magnificent building, something that was built some 10 years ago, and sometimes I miss the winding stairs of Children’s library, the wooden board walls and another level of tiny, narrow stairs that took you to pillow riddled room where you could participate in events. But the new library is beautiful and light and holds some beautiful memories for me, too. One day, I’ll test VR out there!
And a bit ahead, on left, there’s the huge bus station central, also recently, just last year or so, rebuilt. Then the main street splits in two, the barrier area leaving space for some old buildings and some newer ones. One of the streets runs right by an old creek, now overgrown - once home to bunch of beavers that have now returned to the main part of the river and only ducks stop by here now.
There is train station, little used now, that end of the town generally quiet and with a sense of going to sleep, like someone might before the End. On the other end of city, many new huge shops for cars and furniture have sprung from ground, along an uneven road to the hospital that can never be fully repaired because it is the only way to access the compound, hidden among the trees. The main cemetery is also there, the Orthodox one more in the center of city, but on the side.
And, oh, trees and flowers. There are many of those, all over the place. And many small streets that I have not explored. Little glimpses of peace and magic, in that one specific moment I sometime manage to catch them in my photographies. There are gaping spots where half finished buildings used to lay and gaze at passerby with empty windows, while some have finally seen completion. One becomes vacant time and time again, they say a spirit there is uneasy. My mom felt it was Her Home.
There are huge, burly apartment compounds all over the city, built after the town was burned down at the end of the World War 2. No one knows who did it, both Russian and German allies are blamed, seen to help start the fire... The buildings are built with hands of war prisoners and in that, remind me a lot of our truly old buildings, the church and castle ruins who, too, had unwilling builder hands used. Only few pre-war buildings remain. Now, many of the bulking apartment complexes are being renovated and given fresher look.
I belong here, and I don’t. I belong to the memories and the glimpses of something I catch sometime, I belong to the bus routes I took with her that do not exist anymore, I belong to benches that have been moved, I belong to the lilac bushes that were ruined carelessly in renovations or just chopped down, to trees that always burn red, just different shades, over a river-bend seen from bridge nearest to our house. To the way daffodils turn our apartment yard yellow and then white. To the bookstore that has not even lost most of its old employees, but have gained a cat in the years I have lived in this town.
I could go on and on, more and more things come to my mind. But I will finish it now, simply like this: My home town is the definition of a changing yet constant spot. An anchor that is covered with rust but also wrapped up with a pretty ribbon.
take on me: could you reach the high note?
Pretty sure I could not!! My voice is rather low naturally and I can’t really sing, so nope. I’ve not specifically tested, but I don’t think so. I do have high pitched laughter at times, though. Hmm.
footloose: favourite musical?
I do not have one, oops. Never seen musical, other than one very vague memory of our version of Cats when I was 7 or so. I was not impressed. Do Disney movies count??
i want candy: chocolate or sweets?
Is it not the same thing?? I could understand cookies vs sweets... Okay, anyway. Chocolate. I don’t eat candy much and so much of candy is... actually chocolate?? Honestly, if you pick chocolate, you can get away with eating most things, like cakes, etc. (Why am I treating this like a question ‘if you can have only one for rest of your life?’? LOL) And there are so many flavors and fillings!!
eye of the tiger: favourite 80s movie?
I have no idea what counts as 80′s movie, to be honest, so I am not sure, I think I am more of early 90′s baby. I googled and from options presented, I have seen and enjoyed The Karate Kid, Back to the Future, of course the Star Wars movie.... Oh you know what? Neverending story. I was upset it didn’t show the book as I wanted, but I still enjoyed. So, it’s sort of toss up between that and Star Wars ones, though, tbh I was... not that big on the movies, ever.
karma chameleon: what do you like most about your appearance?
My eyes. They have a beautiful color, both my mom and other people have described water-like, both in the blue-gray color itself and how it changes, depending on light and my mood. They have a darker circle around them and my pupil is over-sensitive to light (but not only). I also do like my hair color, as much as it is always in state of darkening or lightening. If only my hair wasn’t so frail and damaged from nothing else than existing. (Hey, if that doesn’t sum me up in general...)

Three Minutes to Eternity: My ESC 250 (#20)
youtube
#20: Alma -- Requiem (France 2017)
“Je sais que je t'aimerai encore Quand la Terre ne tournera plus”
“I know that I will still love you when the Earth doesn’t spin anymore”
From a French classic to a song with a distinctive French sound, we have Requiem, which became the first Eurovision song I really clung onto. While most of the pre-contest hype went to Occidentali's Karma (#150), my heart went with France in whom I wanted to win. And in the process, Alma became my first Eurovision love.
Tumblr media
Especially after J'ai cherché's (#34) success, I was happy to hear this song for the first time, as it combined French music with a very pop sound. There was a whimsy in the instrumentation, with how it takes multiple twists and turns and maintains a lightness throughout. The lyrics are very poetic and romantic, though sometimes I forget that they also focus on death. With lyrics focusing on the ethereality of life and how things grow, along with how this life is "a season and nothing more", it still holds the hope that their love would last "beyond the bones".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, because Alma sung this song before 1 September, Requiem had to be reworked. The production was strengthened, with a more prominent percussive beat and strings. It really stands out in the last part of the song, where everything builds up beautifully rather than falling flat. The biggest change was writing a new chorus in English, which got a bit of flack for disturbing the "French character" of the song.
Like with Je n'ai que mon ame (#139), the English parts felt a bit forced; Alma seemingly rushed through the chorus before going back to the French parts. It does work in the end though, with the "embrasse-moi/tell me that you love me". While I was a bit worried about her chances, I didn't mind it too much, because the rest of the song held its weight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if people were especially worried about how "French" it would be, the staging affirms it with a landscape of Paris turning from day to night, with the Eiffel Tower coming into focus in the bridge. In the context of 2017's stagings, this was actually quite good, with all the pretty lights and the spinning circle towards the end. However, the images, especially with the floating buildings, were quite weird to say the least. The dancers from the music video could've featured more on stage, but I'm not sure how it would work without getting too messy (though I'm a sucker for a good tango!).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It ended up not getting the result Alma deserved (though it came top ten in the televote!), which placing last in the running order didn't help with. I haven't listened to this song as much, but it has held up well amongst its class, and I get wrapped in the ambience of it all. Alma also released her debut album, Ma peau aime, and it's got a bunch of solid songs (my favorites are Après l'aurore, the title track, and 8 ans et des poussières). Recently, she turned to more English-language songwriting, but I still recommend checking it out too!
Tumblr media
Personal ranking: 1st/42 Actual ranking: 12th/26 GF in Kyiv
Final Impressions on 2017: It feels like 2017 has a bad reputation from the fandom--controversies aside, the songs and production weren't as strong as it was in previous years, almost every delegation placed the contestants' face on the LEDs, and there was a runaway winner which not everyone is onboard with. The #13-16 range in the GF was especially horrendous in terms of song quality.
Though sometimes, I think it's like the "Endurance: Tehachapi" to 2016's "Endurance: Hawaii". With the latter, everything was up to the 9's in both songs and production, so the expectations were quite high for the following season/contest. While I do agree on that, Kyiv's second hosting still had its charms, from the Eurovision medley with Ukrainian elements, to the highly experimental interval act. And of course, there were some more surprises, which were much less expected!
