I don’t see how people see how Anders is mistreated by the fandom when 98% of all DA related posts on tumblr are extremely pro Anders, that some people don’t even know Anti-Anders is even a thing

I mean, sure, a lot of da tumblr ranges from neutral to incredibly fond of Anders, but da tumblr does not make up the whole fandom. And even if he’s liked, that doesn’t mean he’s not mistreated! And a lot of the people who are an///ti anders or critical of him are fairly vocal. And an///ti Anders stuff I do somewhat separate from mishandling (there is ofc some overlap tho) cos... yeah there’s a lot of stuff abt Anders that really is fucked. He’s not exactly mr feminist. He’s kinda racist. I find many of his conversations w Merrill to be... frustrating, at best. ((I still love him because I butcher canon in the first place, I think that a few of my issues really can be chalked up to crappy or at least thoughtless writing, and even then I do recognize those flaws)).

But anyway, I do think he is mishandled and... I mean, I don’t want to say misunderstood, because the connotations of that aren’t what I’m going for... I guess I want to say poorly understood? By many in the fandom (this is addressing fandom on tumblr and outside. Bc again. Tumblr isn’t the whole fandom.). Esp when you think of that one post where it was like “all the apostate mages betray you in da” (I’m paraphrasing here) when, like, for m0rrigan and anders that is conditional at least, plain untrue at most (i lean more towards the latter, tho ig it depends on your game, your interpretations of that game, and your HCs oustide of gameplay).

And when I talk about his mistreatment I mostly talk about the whole blowing-up-the-Chantry business. Like there are apparently a lot of people off tumblr who find Anders annoying (I’m hesitant to feel either way abt it cos I don’t exactly click around on their blogs to see what they find annoying), but mostly I’m talking abt the chantry thing. That’s divisive. And I feel like... well Both sides do occasionally mistreat him, tho mostly those opposed to his actions do. Many on the not-so-pro-Anders side, I find, often misconstrue Anders’ motivations and reasoning and as such mistreat him because, as they personally don’t like him or his actions, they do not try to understand him or his actions and accordingly paint him in one light. (I don’t necessarily say this w/ like. Vitriol. Because I was the same towards V!vienne before I thought to actually try and understand what she was saying. And also because, again, I’ll say Anders wasn’t written well in aspects, largely cos I think BioWare was trying to force grey morality on situations where morality couldn’t exactly be so grey. And also I think that perhaps a good few people who decided they hated Anders before getting to the last straw were rivals w him, and thus got different interactions throughout, and especially in the post-explosion scene)

Sorry if this is kinda scattered and incoherent lmao i haven’t slept in like 24 hrs so I’m... hhh. But anyway, I think at the end of the day mistreated can be fairly subjective. I think he is mistreated by a good bit of fandom, even if many agree with at least his philosophy.
