Got some Polish music recs?

You know, funny story, when I was eight I entered this dumb little contest where kids had to draw comics about the fire brigade of Kraków. I drew a comic featuring the w.i.t.c.h. character we and got a distinction.

The reason I bring this up is because my reward in this contest was an MP3 player. A player which, in fact, I recently discovered at the bottom of a drawer and resurrected.

And on that player, to my delight, my mom had put a bunch of songs she liked. And practically every polish musician I listen to was featured on that list. So if you're wondering why so many of these are uhh from my parents' generation or older... And also definitely don't need my recommendation because everyone already knows them... That's why. Ok who cares let's get this party started

Marek Grechuta - absolute classic. Most songs are barely about anything but they're serious bops and also very poetic sounding. Tinged with melancholy but that might just be because I've loved him since I was a kid. Actually that might go for every single artist on this list so nvm. Forever favourite is nie dokazuj. Special shout-out to korowód which is quite unlike other Grechuta music but somehow hits so right it makes me cry.

Waglewski but almost exclusively the męska muzyka album. Majty, sport and dziób pingwina slap SEVERELY but I also really like the more recent ojciec. Fun fact: my grandfather played with Waglewski although not on this album.

Basically everything by kaczmarski. Love his historically inspired songs, love mury, nasza klasa makes me cry like a baby.

Gdy nie ma dzieci by kult. if you're polish and don't already know this melody by heart then what are you even doing. Also kocham cię also by kult. i feel like there's more kazik music i loved as a kid but i can't find or remember any of them :/ Fun fact: a friend of my mom's played with kazik for some time

mamona by republika, mostly because there's a very fond summer camp memory tied to it

i'll throw in another absolute classic - mniej niż zero by lady pank. and here's another, chodź pomaluj mój świat by 2 plus 1. man i did not remember how melancholy the melody of this one was...

Galeon by łąki łan. My elementary school bestie and i loved this song and knew it by heart because i terrorised my mom into playing it in the morning every time she stayed over.

Maria Peszek but only the miastomania album. Once another album full of melancholy. Plenty of slightly wailing vocals ruminating on modern life in a very dreamy way.

Edek leszczyk by Maciej Maleńczuk. Friend of a friend of my mom, she knew him when he was still a youngin singing this on the streets. Hilarious text with hilarious delivery. The lines "kawał jak widać udaje się świetnie" and "szczekała też narzeczona" always get me

Laboratorium pieśni but the only actual piece of music i remember off the top of my head is the sound for this amazing chłopi trailer

Takiego chłopaka by micromusic. My mom likes their music but this is the only song i personally know
