Quick question?
How many of you believe that Ichigo did in fact die after Byakuya pierced his Saketsu and Hakusui?

i watched the beginning of the fullbring arc and it makes the whole ‘ichigo is actually unhappy with being human’ even less believable. he never looks particularly upset its very much life goes on for him. plus the reasons he seeks out power isnt because hes unhappy, it’s literally because he was pushed to the point. karin was going to kisuke, he and his friends got targeted by tsukishima and very important point but uryu got hospitalized by something clearly supernatural. no shit he wants powers he doesnt want to be a bystander while his friends are getting hurt it has nothing to do with him being human but had everything to do with people targeting his friends.

Four changes I would make to Bleach
Tumblr media
Before I begin I want to warn you that I will list things from the ending of the Bleach manga. This is important because if you're watching the recent 'Thousand Year Blood War' anime then you're essentially seeing the manga, aka the source materials, final story arc.
Yes, Kubo is quite involved with the anime right now and he is making changes to the story in bits with the anime team. What I fear may be spoilers may no longer be so but just to be safe I warn you anyway.
With that out of the way let us begin~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#1 No Fullbring
When I say this I do not mean that I would cut the Fullbring Arc. I've come to appreciate what it did since the manga ended.
No, when I say "no fullbring" I mean that I would actually make it a temporary power. Once Ginjo steals Ichigo's fullbring that is it. There is no "oh, remnants of it still exist" or other such logic. I would have that power truly lost.
I'd still keep Zangetsu's redesigns but simply remove the fullbring additions like seen in my edits above. My reason for this being a few.
First, I do not like how they have him keep it only for it to just vanish shortly after anyway. Once Zangetsu is reforged you never see it again.
Second, Ichigo being everything under the sun and doing little with it does bother me even now. Even if it's to a much smaller degree.
Third, I once had this post going over how I would have Ichigo gain and lose powers as he learns about the world over the story but I deleted that post since...well the Bleach story DOES do that.
This alteration is just a small one left over from that long rant.
Tumblr media
#2 Resolve the Kurosaki twins story thread
This alteration isn't as scenario specific as it is above. I'm sure many have their own ideas on that and I like seeing them. But for the sake of conversation and consistency I will offer the best idea I've heard over the years.
Use the twins to restore Ichigo's powers
From what I remember this idea is simple. In order to restore Ichigo's powers at the end of the Fullbring Arc Urahara had used the twins latent spiritual powers.
I made a big post on them already but TLDR Yuzu can see ghosts as blurry images while Karin has powers she's very vocal about not exploring.
Plus, these two are the closest beings to what Ichigo even is in the series. They would get the chance to be truly normal and, for once, help their brother instead.
It'd be a beautiful little thing in my mind but that is just one option I've seen.
P.S. This idea basically meant that the spirit sword used to restore Ichigo was forged from the twins powers then changed with the spiritual energy of all his friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#3 Ichigo loses his Quincy powers
This is one of those potential spoilers I warned about. In the manga Yhwach not only absorbs the Soul King but proceeds to rip the power for his quincy army before finally stripping Ichigo of his own.
This is happens directly after Yhwach infamously breaks the true Tensa Zangetsu before we even got to see it's true ability.
Truth be told, I'd leave the part of the quincy's having their powers, and thus their lives, stolen by Yhwach. What annoys me is the ambiguity of what came next that persists even now.
The Fullbringers restore Tensa Zangetsu but the exact nature it has is just left a lingering mystery.
Tumblr media
To fix this I would just explain it. Yhwach's about to remake the world and so he's taking back all the power he had passed around. The only exception to this even would be Uryu due to his 'antithesis' ability. (uryu has proven he's immune to Auswählen once already)
I'd also have Ryuken survive the event but I would leave him powerless since he's more interested in being a human anyway.
For Ichigo, this means that old man Zangetsu is gone. It would make sense for Yhwach to steal his quincy powers but break Zangetsu. All modern quincies derive their power from Yhwach while Zangetsu is a hollow turned zanpakuto.
Hollows are poisonous to quincy and thus Yhwach decides the best way to depower Ichigo is to break his bankai then steal his quincy powers.
Tumblr media
You could even use this as an excuse. Once Xcution restores Tensa Zangetsu it's outer shell could break away revealing the original shikai underneath showing that it's changed to reflect the loss of it's quincy aspects.
Heck, you could even change the true Tensa Zangetsu to be purely black like in my edit above. ^^ This is just my idea as well, I'm open to others, all I really want is for the anime to explain it.
I only went this route because I like the idea of Uryu truly being the last quincy by the end of the story. Speaking of Uryu...
Tumblr media
#4 Have Uryu do more
From what I've heard this change is actually happening in the anime. I would like them to take it even further due to Uryu's Schrift. In the manga, this man is bluntly stated to possibly be the only known counter to Yhwach's Almighty and Auswählen.
This unique trait of Uryu's manifests as 'The Antithesis' once Yhwach grants him a Schrift.
That alone, in my mind, means that he should be way more crucial to the final battle than the manga made him. He literally just appears to shoot an arrow at Yhwach which he should've literally been able to see coming.
I don't think that role is bad in of itself but by hell do more with it. Show me why Yhwach wouldn't see that arrow coming, show me why the antithesis is...well the antithesis to the almighty.
Just do something with the boy in the finale other than handing him a silver arrow to beat the last boss with like it's Zelda or something.
Tumblr media
Anndddd we're Done
These are my four changes I'd like to see. I do not expect #3 nor #4 to actually happen and they definitely aren't going to do changes #1 or #2 now.
I also thought that I would have more but to my shock I do not. I'll end this here~

I would DM you, but if you decide to answer I think what you will say will interest more people than just me.
Do you think that Rukia's blind believe in Ichigo's greatness and goodness was because of Kaien and Ichigo's resemblence with him?
And if so, when did she truly started to see him as a separate person?
To me it seems that she gets attached to Ichigo to hard to soon, two months isn't really believable. I could get him, he's a teen and she has literally fallen from the sky and saved him from depression. Ichigo's defining moment was his inability to save his mother, his protectoress from death, him saving Rukia feels a bit as bookends, and actually the great personal stakes and this is personal battles were after that supplanted by over -the-top shonen paint by numbers battle scenes.
At the beginning both Rukia and Ichigo were people with a lot of emotional baggage.
This is a very layered question.
Rukia does see echoes of Kaien in Ichigo but that's not unique. Everyone of note in Soul Society's arc does, which is unsurprising because those qualities; the impetuousness, the moral virtue, the ferocious determination to follow that morality through to the bitter end in defiance of edicts and convention - they're all defining traits in the Shiba family. In the Kurosaki family too but ignoring that.
But I don't think Rukia latched onto Ichigo specifically because he looked like Kaien, though that might've been a tertiary factor. Especially in the case of Byakuya choosing to spare his life pointedly because of that resemblance. At the same time, I wouldn't be shocked to learn Rukia subconsciously saw Ichigo as her second chance.
A post by @kodoku-no-maria which posits the theory that Ichigo was originally intended to be Kaien's reincarnation before Bleach's story got lost up its own ass best encapsulates this idea. I quote their specific comparison:
She [Rukia] was afraid when Kaien died
She was brave when she met Ichigo
She ran away (Kaien)
She took action (Ichigo)
She couldn’t save Kaien from a hollow
She saved Ichigo from a hollow
She pierced Kaien with her sword and he died
She pierced Ichigo with her sword and he, you could say, was born
Her sword couldn’t save Kaien
Her sword saved Ichigo
She couldn’t be of any help to Kaien, felt powerless
She became the source of Ichigo’s power
Ichigo and Rukia both had extraordinary amounts of baggage at the start of the series, and through their brief interactions over two months (two months where she's been living in his bedroom wardrobe mind you), Rukia helped Ichigo by giving him the power he's always wanted to protect others, but helping him confront his demons and his mother's murderer. While it seems fairly one way initially, we need to take a revelation made in the SS arc into account.
The one thing that Rukia has always craved since being adopted into the Kuchiki clan, and the one thing Kaien and Ichigo gave her during their respective times with her, is normalcy.
Even when Rukia met the Shiba kin for the first time. When greeting Kaien, he responded with 'WTF was that?! I'm your XO ya little runt! Show some respect!"
When Rukia happened upon Ichigo's room, "WTF?! You're a crappy burglar! Get the hell outtta here!'
Both very normal reactions for the situations.
In those two months in the living world, Rukia wasn't the Kuchiki's leader's adopted sister; she wasn't an adopted noble expected to maintain some vaunted flaccid sense of hypocritical propriety; no expectations of any kind. She was an ordinary teenager going to an ordinary high school, living an ordinary life with occasional bouts of supernatural thrown in. Even though Rukia knew those days would inevitably come to an end, those two months would've been an absolute dream for her, where theoretically her biggest worry would've been an occasional hollow and finishing homework. I'd go so far as to claim it was a sinful indulgence considering the burden of her self-perceived sins.
And when Ichigo infamously blocked the Sokyoku, the blade as powerful as a million Zanpakutou, it was one of the first steps in helping Rukia recognise - or rediscover the value of her life. And later on when she defeats Aaroniero, she remembers a lesson and accepts that fact that Kaien had entrusted his heart to her, and that heart cannot live on if she values herself so little.
To summarise my longwinded ramble:
Rukia and Ichigo were mutual catalysts for each getting over their own individual traumas and moving on to live healthy, happy and productive lives, absolved of the perceived guilts and tragedies that used to weigh them down.

Do any of the other denizens of Muken ever try to communicate with you via reiatsu "morse code"? It seems like at a minimum Azashiro probably could have done so if he so desired.
Could have?
Kenpachi Azashiro and I have exchanged words.
He was, if I remember correctly, under the mistaken impression that I lost to Kurosaki Ichigo. Azashiro, in fact, mocked me for it. I kept my own council--difficult though that was for me--because it seems that there there must be some benefit to the Soul Society that this lie is perpetuated.
Everyone seems to believe that Kurosaki Ichigo not only stood a chance against me, but somehow actually won.
Is the Ryoka boy too proud to tell the story accurately?
I realize we were alone on the battlefield, but, surely, someone else saw what truly transpired that day.
But in case it is somehow not known, let me tell you the truth. It was not Urahara's child solider who defeated me, but Urahara Kisuke himself. I was still standing, unaffected, when the last of Kurosaki's so-called Final Getsuga Tensho faded. In a moment, he would have been completely powerless in front of me. In fact, I would have won the day were it not for the trickery of Urahara Kisuke that finally ensnared me.
People are always so quick to accuse me of being a liar, but this lie is repeated to me over and over. Why? Who first told the story this way? Why is the truth being kept from the world? And, why, by all the Gods, did a Kenpachi repeat it to my face?
Of course, if it were true, Azashiro would be well within his rights to mock me. Defeated by a fifteen year old child? I would, indeed, be a joke.
But, that's not how it happened.
In fact, I would dare Azashiro to win against Urahara Kisuke, former warden of the Maggot's Nest, one of the Quincy War Potentials, a man whose bankai can restructure anything it touches including himself, and whose Kido capabilities match my own. THERE is man worthy of my "defeat." But let it be noted that there is defeat and there is death.
And no one has killed me yet.

Fill out the angst application below.
Tumblr media
Basics
NAME: Ichigo Kurosaki
AGE:  Young adult
SPECIES:  Human. But also a literal mutt
bold what applies (italicize what somewhat applies)
drinker ; smoker ; done / does drugs ; knows what a broken heart feels like  ; has committed a crime ;suffers a physical disability ; suffers a mental disorder ; has experienced severe trauma
Details
BIGGEST FEAR: Hands down, no surprises, his biggest fear is being powerless to protect/keep/help the people in his life. Or the more angsty flip side of this, being directly responsible for their deaths. This especially applies to his family and friends, but extends to almost anyone in front of him. He has a lot of growth in this area as the story progresses. Toward the beginning, he tended to sideline his friends when they wanted to fight. He did the fighting, he took the damage. That was his acceptable risk. He learned over time that he can’t just fight in place of other people, because they need their own battles to grow. He has to respect their decisions and growth. Eventually we see him leaving battles to other people and walking away entirely. Good for him.
RECURRING NIGHTMARE: No recurring nightmare. He has a recurring theme. See above. Everyone seems to think Ichigo would have nightmares of Hueco Mundo, but my Ichigo really doesn’t. Occasionally maybe. Definitely he would have had awful nightmares of his hollow, except he never had the chance. Tensa called him on his fear and made him deal with it nearly immediately in the timeline. Then he had no powers. He does dream about it, but that’s not what his dreams are about. They’re about his loss of control, loss of power, loss of his ability to protect, and of instead becoming the thing that causes loss and destruction and all the things he wants to protect people from.
SOMETHING YOU MISS:   The security he felt as a child/ the belief that things will be okay
BIGGEST REGRET: He has so many it's hard to pick.
A SECRET:  Pretty sure it’s everyone else keeping the secrets BUT he does tend to isolate/withdraw to keep his shit from affecting those closest to him.
Pick one

mother                     or          father

Tite Kubo - artist and creator of Bleach
Bleach is set in the Human world, Soul Society, the Wandenreich, Hueco Mundo and Hell. When a human dies they bcome a spirit, soul reapers then find their spirits and fulfil their last wishes, then when they are happy, the soul reaper inserts their sword into the spirit which will either send the spirit to Soul Society or to Hell depending on how they acted suring their life. However, if the spirit harbours intense grudges or hatred and is not found by the soul reapers, the spirit can pull out a chain from its body which is a long and excruciating process. This will cause it to become a hollow and it will kill and eat humans and other hollows to grow stronger unless it is then killed by a soul reaper or a Quincy.
The story revolves around the main character, Ichigo, who becomes able to use soul reaper powers by separating his spirit from his body. He can then fight against the hollows which he was powerless against beforehand. He can also travel to the Soul Society and Hueco mundo through portals that can be opened by their respective populations.
This links in with the Dice theme, opening portals between the Human world Soul Society and Hueco Mundo.
Characters from Bleach:
Ulquiorra Cifer:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ulquiorra Cifer is a Arrancar. This means he is a hollow which has removed their mask and gained humanoid form. Ulquiorra possesses immense speed, physical strength and agility. He has the ability to absorb and manipulate spiritual energy. He also has the ability to create powerful energy blasts and spears, capable of destroying entire cities. In his powered up form shown above, he gains a set of wings and the ability to regenerate from almost any injury. I have posted pictures of his swords further down in this post.
Ichigo Kurosaki:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ichigo Kurosaki is the main character of Bleach. Ichigo is a human who finds out what spiritual energy is from Rukia, who gives him her ability to use it himself and the ability to separate his spirit from his body. When entering his spiritual form, he gains a sword, called a Zanpakuto and he gains black and white clothes which are linked to his spirit power through his sword. Ichigo's hair grows considerably during the course of the story, he gets taller and stronger. He has four black, vertical lines on his forearms and black, tattoo-like bands crossing over his chest, wrists and ankles in his later form. He also has white bands around his neck, like collars. He wears a black and white, flowing cloak in this form as well.
Rukia Kuchiki:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rukia Kuchiki helps the main character to gain access to his spiritual energy, by transferring him her ability to access it. Rukia is short and petite, with black hair in a bob style. She wears a fingerless white Tekko, which extends above her elbows. She wears a robe, called a Shihakusho, which is a uniform of the Gotei 13. This is a white underclothing, black, short sleeved kimono style outfit, with white Tabi, which are Japanese style socks, under Waraji, which are tie on sandals made from rope style fibres.
Her sword is also shown further down in this post.
Kisuke Uruhara (+Yoruichi Shihouin):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kisuke is a Soul Reaper in a fake human body, living in the human world. He is the creator of the fake human bodies that him and other Soul Reapers use while in the human world so that they are able to interact with humans. He also created the Hogyoku, which is a smalll, bluish-purple orb which is thought to have been composed of a unique substance, capable granting someone immense power, and evolving hollows into a form higher than they would have been able to achieve prior to its creation.
Kisuke is a tall, lean man with light skin and grey eyes. He has messy, light blond hair and chin stubble. He wears a dark green samue, which is a light fabric traditional work wear for the Japanese. Over the top of that he wears a black cloak and carries a fan, which he occasionally uses to hide his face. He wears traditional Japanese wooden sandals and a striped, dark green and white hat.
Sword research:
Ulquiorra's sword:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a typical Japanese anime katana, with green webbing round the handle, a guard, then a long, silver blade. The sword itself is named "Murcielago".
Toshiro's sword:
Tumblr media
This, again is a typical Japanese anime katana style sword. Toshiro's has purple webbing around the handle, with a star shaped guard, and a long, silver blade. The sword itself is named "Hyorinmaru".
Rukia's sword:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the most detailed sword of the characters, with a long, flowing ribbon coming out of the handle at the pommel end. Rukia's sword has a completely white blade, matching its ability of using ice as an attack. The sword itself is named "Sodeno Shirayuki" and is stated as being the most beautiful in all of Soul Society.

Ichigo crossed his legs into a more comfortable sitting position from where he was perched on the roof of the hospital. Ichigo sighed as he took in the way the setting sun bathed his town in pink and orange hues. Ichigo winced as he rolled his shoulders, biting back a whine when a few orange feathers fluttered to the ground around his crossed legs.
Ichigo gently eased his left-wing around his side and brushed his fingers over the soft yet brittle feathers that made up his wing. He winced and removed his fingers when more feathers sank to the roof.
“Ichigo,” Ishida’s quiet voice came from the teen. Ichigo turned slightly before turning back to look at the setting sun when he caught sight of Ishida’s healthy and shining dark blue wings.
“My sister’s wings are starting to come in, they are little buds but they are so excited,” Ichigo said slowly as Ishida sat next to him, their wings contrasting in the dying light of the day.
“They can’t wait for me to teach them how to fly as Kaa-San did.” Ichigo’s voice shook as he curled his fingers into fists against the fabric of his pants.
“Tou-San will figure something out, he always does,” Ishida promised and Ichigo shook his head as he rose to his feet.
“I’m not a normal Quincy Ishida, we both know the only way for me to keep my wings and my life is getting back my Shinigami powers. To get Shiro and Oss-san back.” Ichigo reminded his cousin as he clutched the front of his shirt over his heart as he the hole in his chest ached.
“What are you going to do then?” Ishida saw the way Ichigo’s wings were flexing behind him and knew Ichigo had some scheme in mind.
“My last chance, if it doesn’t work… Get my sisters away from goat-face and teach them how to fly.” Ichigo tossed over his shoulder before he stepped off the roof. His orange wings flared out behind him and with a few powerful downward strokes Ichigo took off leaving Ishida behind.
Ichigo took a moment to enjoy the rush of wind against his face and wondered how much longer he had to enjoy this. His wings were already aching and tiring from the short flight he was taking. The pain was echoed in his chest and Ichigo was relieved when he saw a familiar Shouten come into view.
He knew that he was about to blow his secret wide open, but he had to if he wanted Urahara to understand. Ichigo hovered over the Shouten and his lips tilted up into a smile when he caught sight of Urahara stepping into the yard and the surprise in his eyes when he caught sight of Ichigo and his large orange wings.
“Ichigo?” Urahara asked as he took a few steps back as Ichigo lowered himself down onto the ground. Just in time as Ichigo’s wings dropped down exhausted and the sudden change in weight sent Ichigo stumbling forward.
Urahara was there, strong arms catching him around the waist and Ichigo found himself face-first against the older man’s geta and he couldn’t help but inhale the familiar scent.
“…Kisuke, I need your help.” Ichigo curled his fingers into the front of the green geta as he allowed Urahara to look his fill at his wings.
“Anything Ichigo, anything,” Urahara whispered almost reverently and something was lifted off of Ichigo’s shoulders.
“I need to restore my soul, without them my wings… They’re dying…They’re connected to my very being.” Ichigo whispered minutes later when he and Urahara were seated in the older man’s lab.
This conversation was too delicate for the front room and Ichigo refused to hide his wings away as he had learned to do since he was young and had to constantly do around Isshin and then the Shinigami’s.
“When your wings lose all their feathers and strength, then you…” Urahara crossed his arms in the large sleeves of his geta and his hat shielded his face, but Ichigo could all but see the anger that was coming from the older man.
“I will die, permanently this time.” Ichigo finished what Urahara refused to say aloud.
“Am I correct in assuming Isshin has no clue?” Urahara’s voice was light but Ichigo knew that tone, the man was angry and this time it was directed at Ichigo’s father.
“None and he doesn’t need to know. I refuse to let him treat Yuzu and Karin the way he treated me.” Ichigo said fiercely, his wings shaking at the thought of his little sisters having to deal with Isshin in the way Ichigo had to.
“Isshin and I will be having words once we save you,” Urahara promised and Ichigo blinked at the firm words, a silent promise and a smile crossed his lips.
“I’m assuming you have a plan?” Ichigo felt giddy, he knew Urahara wouldn’t let him down.
“We will restore your soul, the Soul Society owes you a great debt and I plan on collecting it on your behalf.” Urahara’s voice was dripping with bloodlust that also shined in his grey eyes in a way that made Ichigo’s wings shiver in delight.
“How long do you think you have left?” Urahara asked suddenly completely serious as he leaned towards Ichigo with something unsure in his eyes now.
“A few days at best, Ryūken and Ishida have been giving me daily doses of reiatsu but it’s like putting a bandage on a gaping hole. It helps but doesn’t do a lot of good in the long run. Without those doses, I would have been dead a few weeks ago.” Ichigo ran his fingers through his hair as he spoke.
“I see,” Urahara’s fingers tightened until his knuckles turned white. “I better get to work then, I’ll have Tessai set up a barrier that will draw in reiatsu to help keep you stable until I can return.”
“I knew I could count on you Kisuke, thank you.” Ichigo felt relief go through him; even if this didn’t work he now knew that the older man truly did care for him.
“Thank me after I save you, don’t you dare die before I get back.” Urahara took Ichigo’s hand, squeezing it tightly. Urahara’s eyes were burning with determination.
“I won’t, I promise…Just hurry.” Ichigo whispered as he held onto Urahara’s hand as tightly as Urahara was holding onto his.
“Wait for me Ichigo,” Urahara planted a soft kiss on Ichigo’s forehead before he left the room, his green geta swirling around him as he moved. Ichigo lifted his hand up to his forehead, a blush forming on his cheeks at the kiss.
Ichigo honestly and completely lost track of time after Tessai escorted him to the basement training area and set up a reiatsu-absorbing barrier around him. Ichigo got lost in the glowing barrier and the way he felt both weaker and stronger with each passing minute as his wings that were sprawled out on either side of him shuddered and flexed. Ichigo was in flux constantly and he wasn’t even sure he was alive most moments.
The one thing Ichigo was sure of was when the barrier was taken down, it felt like he had taken a sword in the gut as pain wracked his body as the constant flow of reiatsu was taken from him.
“Hold on just a bit longer Ichigo,” Urahara’s voice pierced the haze that had settled over Ichigo’s mind and the teen managed to open his eyes to look up at the older man. Ichigo coughed and felt wetness splatter over his lips but he did his best to turn his lips up into a smile.
“K-Kisuke,” Ichigo’s voice was hoarse and he could feel the wetness drip down his chin as he lifted his hand. His wings felt like they were pinned to the uneven ground below him and he was afraid if he looked he would see that he only had a few feathers left. Only a few minutes of his life left.
“Do you trust me Ichigo?” Urahara’s hand was gentle as he cupped the back of Ichigo’s neck, easing the teenager up. Ichigo whined at the way his wings hung limply behind him and his body felt frail under Urahara’s strong hand.
“Always have,” Ichigo rasped out before he saw a bright flash of light and Ichigo screamed as pain radiated from his stomach. He looked down to see a glowing sword buried in his gut and he looked back up at Urahara.
“Live Ichigo,” Urahara ordered fiercely as the glowing sword burned brightly and Ichigo’s world dissolved around him with a familiar insane cackle and a deep voice saying his name.
Urahara backed away as Ichigo’s body glowed and was lifted up off the ground. The teenager’s orange wings glowing as bright as the sun as they flared out around him, the missing feathers restored themselves and shone with a healthy light. Ichigo’s lips turned up into a smile even with his eyes closed as he hovered in the middle of the training area as his clothes burned away and were replaced with the familiar black Shinigami robes. Ichigo’s forearms and neck were now covered in crisscrossing black and white bands, his right hand lifted up to the side and his meat cleaver style Zanpakuto formed in a wave of black and red reiatsu.
“Welcome back Ichigo,” Urahara couldn’t help the smile that appeared on his lips at the sight of Ichigo, fully restored and healthy before him.
“Kisuke,” Ichigo smiled as his eyes opened, his brown eyes were burning with an orange glow that matched his wings. Ichigo’s feet touched back down onto the ground and he placed a hand on his chest over his heart with a pleased smile on his lips.
“Thank you, you saved me.” Ichigo stepped closer to Urahara as he sheathed his Zanpakuto on his back in a swift, familiar movement. Urahara noticed how his wings seemed to shift and adjust around the weight on his back.
“Always,” Urahara found himself promising and he blinked when Ichigo suddenly was in his space and had his arms around him in a tight hug, one his giant wings mirrored. Urahara had never felt so warm and safe in his life and he savoured it as he returned the hug trying not to be awkward after all he couldn’t remember the last time he had been hugged.
“I’m no longer hollow, no longer dying. How can I ever thank you?” Ichigo whispered, unwilling to remove his arms and wings from the older man.
“Dinner?” Urahara blurted out, feeling his cheeks flush at the sudden declaration.
“Dinner to start.” Ichigo pulled back, his cheeks pink and a happy smile on his lips. Urahara felt lighter than he had in centuries and didn’t resist leaning in just to brush their lips together in a questioning kiss.
Ichigo laughed almost sounding giddy as his wing whacked Urahara’s hat off so Ichigo could grip the blond’s hair and haul him in for a deep kiss.
“Dinner to start, Urahara repeated breathlessly when their kiss broke, their arms still curled around the other.

Anyway is christmas eve and im drunk and tired and thinking about a blind ichigo au
Like hes been blind for as long as he can remember and has largely navigated the world through his sense of reiatsu and while not perfect and complete solution by any means he can get around fine. The other students think its a little uncanny that he can always recognize whos approaching him, can tell who is or isnt in class today, but theyve also seen him training with Tatsuki, and hes friends with Sado whos grandmother is also blind, so its not like. THAT weird?
And its honestly a boon when hes a subshinigami, because consciously or not hollows and shinigami both use their reiatsu to bolster their bodies as they move and strike, to give them speed and strength, and by refining his reiatsu sense ichigo knows where an attack is going to be before the motion even really begins. Which isnt perfect either: he actually fights kenpachi better after kenpachi removes the eyepatch, because with the eyepatch on kenpachi earned all of his strength and speed the proper way, through training and training and physical training.
And byakuya is more than a little overwhelming, because when he releases his shikai he's everywhere, all at once, and tracking each and every petal of reiatsu is next to impossible
But then Aizen is dead and Ichigo is perfectly, normally human again, and the world is big and unknown and scary, compounded on top of his ptsd from the winter war, and it just. Sucks big time.
And after about a month of too little sleep and falling behind in school and flinching every time one of his sisters so much as accidentally brush up against him, ichigo is home alone because he cant force himself to go to school where there are people and obstacles and his exfriends and an ocean of pity, and theres a knock on the door.
Kisuke sweeps his way into the kurosaki house with all his usual arrogant confidence, and ichigo is annoyed, of course he is, its been a month of no contact. But hes also comfortable, with kisuke nearby, relaxing by inches, and he cant figure out why until hes sitting at the kitchen table with the lunch kisuke brought
Because kisuke is chattering mindlessly, like he always does, but now it always gives ichigo a sense of where kisuke is. And ichigo knows this space, he can navigate it fine, so kisuke doesnt bother guiding him there. But when the food is plated and their at the table, kisuke's touch is a gentle guide on his wrist: here is his plate, his chopsticks, his drink. But it doesnt feel like pity, it just feels. Natural. Like this is what ichigo needs, and kisuke would be an asshole if he didnt do these things
And before Kisuke leaves, he wrapps ichigos fingers around the curved handle of a cane, and. Its not a guide cane, but its more than even isshin has offered him, and ichigo feels his breath all caught up in his chest, tangled up with the gratefulness that he cant choke out.
(He assumes its just a replica, because the alternative is too crazy for ichigo to even comprehend. But then he has his powers back and he can feel Benihime beneath his hand, all of Kisukes carefully-cultivated bloodlust, and, a Zanpakuto is the extension of the soul, Kisuke has to be fucking insane)
(kisuke must be insane, because the alternative is too crazy for ichigo to even comprehend)
Definitely dont think about kisuke losing his goddamn little mind becaise ichigo is out there, powerless and vulnerable, and the stress is part guilt part... attachment
And he comes to ichigo with the intent to give him lunch and a guide cane. Its very modern. Foldable. Ichigo could probably beat a hollow to death with it, if it came to that, with the amount of augments and enhancements kisuke made to it.
But instead kisuke finds himself wrapping ichigos fingers around his cane, his Zanpakuto. Its already in motion, and he cant find an elegant way of walking this back, and he finds that he doesnt want to.
And never think about the guilty satisfaction kisuke takes in knowing ichigo is carrying around a piece of his soul, arguably his better half. Because this is his fault, and hes fixing it, and that should feel guitily good enough in its own right, but
dont think about why else he would be pleased and smug
anyways merr chirstymas

Kisuke seeing Ichigo and his "poignant beauty of a widow" during those powerless months from a distance
Might have scuffed the prompt up a bit but:
It's not healthy, the way he's taken to spending his scarce moments of free time.
Kisuke knows that.
But, well, Kisuke's been accused of being a number of things over the course of his long life, most of them some degree of unsavory, but healthy in any real shape or form has never been one of them.
His morals, what few he actually possesses, have always been flexible at best. And even those are capable of being readily abandoned in the name of protecting what little he's ever taken to calling his own.
And Kurosaki Ichigo, despite all of Kisuke's careful planning and machinations, has long since become a chink in the armor that Kisuke has spent centuries building around his heart.
Has long since become someone Kisuke cannot help but consider his.
Ichigo is worth everything Kisuke has been doing.
Is worth every sleepless night and blood-splattered day. Is worth every moment spent begging on his knees to a government he no longer believes in. Every moment Kisuke has spent forcing the laws of energy and reality to bend and then break in his grasp on his way to achieving his goal.
To Kisuke, Ichigo is worth all of that and so much more.
But, Kisuke has to admit, that doesn't actually make the situation any easier.
It doesn't make the sight of Ichigo as he is now any easier to bare.
Because, despite everything else they've been through, Kisuke has never seen Ichigo like this.
Ichigo looks older now, looks tired in a way that so obviously goes beyond the physical.
His hair has gone shaggy and those piercing eyes of his are duller than ever before and undercut by deep bags. There is a weight on his shoulders and a lag in his step that was never there before.
He looks bruised in some soul-deep way that makes Kisuke's heart ache.
And yet, despite the loneliness and the obvious grief that Ichigo wears like a cloak these days, he is still so utterly beautiful to Kisuke.
Kisuke ghosts the pad of his thumb across the swell of Ichigo's bottom lip before he moves it up to smooth over the furrow that so rarely leaves his brows these days.
Curled up beneath a heap of blankets on his bed despite the summer heat, Ichigo sleeps on unaware.
Unaware of Kisuke's presence. Unaware of the way that Kisuke is so close to him, sitting there on the corner of his bed while he sleeps on, so terribly temptingly vulnerable.
In any other situation Kisuke would revel in the trust that would imply. Would glut himself on the knowledge that even in his sleep Ichigo knows him.
But now? After all that has come to pass?
All it does is make the violent urges Kisuke has been doing his utmost to suppress for so long now flare and writhe in his chest.
Because yes Kisuke's soul is stained and his hands are thick and gummy with centuries of blood and deception. And yes his plans and machinations are the ones that helped to guide Ichigo's life, that had helped to press him into the exact situation that led to his current state.
But Kisuke had decided early on that, once it was all said and done, he would do whatever necessary to repay his sins to Ichigo. Would gladly lay whatever and whoever necessary at Ichigo's feet in repentance.
Kisuke had never intended to abandon Ichigo. Had never intended for Ichigo to weather this particular storm alone.
He had intended to be there by Ichigo's side, every step of the way.
Kisuke had assumed Isshin would be of the same mind, had assumed he would know how to properly care for his son once the battles had passed. Had assumed Isshin had known his son enough to have long since realized that Ichigo was never as powerful, never as steady, never as happy, as he is when surrounded by those he loves and strives to protect.
Kisuke had, apparently, assumed wrong.
And, like with so many of the choices that have been made lately, Ichigo has been the one to suffer for it.
Playing this game, adhering to Isshin's request to put distance between Ichigo and everything Shinigami related, being careful not to act out of turn in any way that might attract unwanted attention from Seireitei and upset the delicate balance Kisuke has been nurturing in order to do what he must for Ichigo, has grown very tiring, very quickly for Kisuke.
On the worst day, these visits, these precious stolen moments, are all that keeps Kisuke from reaching for Benihime and moving to collect the blood price they both long to see Isshin and so many others pay on Ichigo's behalf.
It's a situation that Kisuke will not allow to happen again.
Once he has played his role and gathered all he needs to in order to restore Ichigo to his rightful state of being, Kisuke will make it known to anyone and anything that might attempt to separate them again that such missteps will no longer be allowed.
And to all who might disagree? To all who might attempt such a thing again despite Kisuke's warnings?
Well.
Kisuke is former Onmitsukidō and while he might never raise his blade on behalf of his former masters again, Kisuke has no compunctions against doing so for the master he has chosen for himself.
Even if Ichigo is not yet aware of the true place he holds in Kisuke's life.
"Soon," Kisuke murmurs as he leans forward to press a ghost of a kiss against Ichigo's slack lips. "Wait for me."
