It never seemed to be the proper time to speak to you, Joel thought. Ever since his fuckup last night, he had struggled to find the words, to explain what his thought process was. A few hours ago, he had talked himself into ripping off the plaster and apologise to you, but when he called your name and you turned around with a composed expression, he froze in place.
He didn’t want to lose you too. Joel was afraid he would say something wrong again that would push you even further away from him. And then he would truly be alone, all because of his own actions, his own words. That fear clamped around his throat, preventing him from saying anything. From reaching out.
It was stupid, really. He knew that. Knew you were expecting him to say something, anything. Your blank expression was just a façade, a wall you had built around your heart so he wouldn’t hurt you anymore.
Joel hated himself for it, for your concealed hurt. Hated he had broken that trust between you two and made you feel like he was no longer on your side. He was, always had been, always would be. But he had let fear come between you, an abyss so vast he didn’t think it was salvable. It had to be though ― couldn’t be any other way.
The possibility of being a father again laid in front of him like a path full of dangers. Joel understood how much he could lose, because he had already lost Sarah. How suffocating that experience had been ― still was, every single fucking day.
He was frightened to go through it all over again. Having to hug another dead child of his; having to witness the light flicker away from her eyes. Sarah had been his everything ― his hope, his pride, the love of his life, the reason he would wake up in the morning to go to work, counting his blessings. And it didn’t matter in the slightest how good she was ― she was taken regardless. This world was cruel and unjust and greedy.
But there was also a sliver of hope, of dull excitement, shimmering underneath. One he wouldn’t allow himself to feel.
He still felt like a failure of a father who could not protect his baby girl when she needed him most. That emotional baggage would forever be with him. And he wanted it that way, because it meant he still remembered. This grief he carried was a reminder of the love he held. And he hoped it stayed with him, that she would stay with him.
Joel could still vividly remember digging with bare nails the grave Tommy had prepared for her. Elbow’s deep in the dirt, his fingers reaching for her as thick tears blurred his vision. The wails ripping his lungs apart, leaving his throat raw and tender. And Tommy hugging him from the back, arms clamped around his shoulders ― crying, begging him to stop.
“Little Sarah is resting now.”
“Let her be, Joel.”
“Stop unburying her, dammit!”
“I’m sorry, truly sorry. God I can’t―”
“She’s at peace now, Joel. No more suffering.”
Tommy’s slurry voice still filled his ears. His little brother had tried his best to comfort him, but at that moment in time, Joel had been too blinded by the gut-wrenching pain, the unbearable loss. He never really thanked Tommy for that. Never thanked you for stopping him from killing himself either.
Being an ass to the people he loved, apparently, was his only strength. Just like he had been with you when you needed him most.
Joel watched you as you struggled to unzip your sleeping bag, the soft material catching on the serrated teeth. You yanked the pull, almost snapping it from the slider, mumbling something to yourself.
He covered your tiny hand with a broad one of his, lightly squeezing your fingers.
“Let me help,” he muttered as you leaned back away from him.
Your subtle physical rejection stung, but he knew he deserved it. His hurt was nothing in comparison to yours.
Letting go of the bag, you faked looking for something in your backpack, avoiding his eyes when they searched for yours. Joel felt that the void between you only grew and grew, like darkness gaining ground to the light outside.
Could he mend your relationship? Your trust? Your love?
With careful hands, Joel managed to release the pinch on the fabric and tested that the zipper worked how it should do. When he glanced up at you, handing over the sleeping bag, Joel caught the rawness in your eyes, the slight dampness clinging to your eyelashes like morning dew on a petal at dawn.
It was now or never. He was hurting from seeing you hurt. Couldn’t take it any longer, he just had to say something, apologise to you. Ask to start the conversation all over again. One more second of this and he would lose his goddamn mind.
“Sweetheart, I―,” he managed to say out loud.
“I’m tired, Joel,” you quickly interrupted him. “Just wanna go to bed now, if you don’t mind.”
Your words were like a sobering, cold shower after a few beers ― stopped him right in his tracks before he could even begin to express what he wanted to say. Slightly shocked, Joel watched you fiddling around with your sleeping bag before you got inside it and turned around, facing away from him.
His slack jaw was soon gritting. But that brief anger quickly shimmered away when reality started to set in.
Perhaps he had misread the whole situation; perhaps you were not waiting on him to talk.
Perhaps you were past that ― past him, his bullshit and his doubts.
Perhaps your relationship was truly beyond salvation.
He paled in the face of such possibility, his hands shaking as they gripped his own sleeping bag.
Joel was up almost all night, eyes transfixed on you as his brain worked out all scenarios.
Tumblr media
You faked falling asleep, but rest evaded you for hours until you finally gave in to exhaustion. Didn’t last long though, because a couple of hours later, you were, once again, wide awake.
The whole situation with Joel was overwhelming. You had hoped he would come to the car as soon as you left him behind, but he didn’t. Then that night you waited for him to say something, anything, and yet again, he didn’t. Not a fucking word when you both woke up this morning either, except for your name falling from his lips like a regretted whisper. Then complete radio silence and nothing else.
The silence treatment he had given you today was unbearable. Even if your doubts had lingered, pushing you to postpone the inevitable, deep inside you had hoped his reaction would be different. Shocked, yes, but then he would be… perhaps not happy, but at least a bit more excited? And after the shock had worn off, he would have soothed you, calmed you, told you everything was gonna be alright.
Maybe you had expected too much of Joel, your little delusion blinding you. After all, he had already lost Sarah. So now, in retrospect, this announcement might have unearthed bad memories, but especially regrets.
Was that it? Had you unburied his most primal fear? You had been so focused on what laid ahead, you had not stopped to consider what laid behind ― what this would mean for Joel. You had briefly contemplated he could perhaps see this as a blessing or a curse, but didn’t dwell too long on the thought, preoccupied as you were with other pressing matters.
You felt sick and it had nothing to do with pregnancy.
And then, when he had tried talking to you before going to bed, you had shut him down. But you were so tired, so mentally drained, you didn’t have an ounce of energy left to deal with a conversation like that. Because you truly didn’t know what he would say ― he wore such an impassive expression on his face, it was really difficult to tell.
You turned on the hard, creaky, wooden floor and faced Joel. One of his arms was resting on the wooden planks, extended towards you, as if he was trying to reach for you in his sleep.
You were in an abandoned cabin just outside Oswego. It was bare and completely stripped of furniture, but at least had a roof that would protect you from the cold, wet weather outside. It also had a covered chimney, but being so close to civilisation, it had to stay put out. Sleeping in the bag was not ideal, but it kept you warm.
Taking a deep breath, you then felt some sort of cushion under your neck that had not been there before you fell asleep. By touch, you realised it was one of those inflatable travel neck pillows that you had seen people use in airplanes. Frowning, you gathered Joel must have found one and tucked it under your head in your sleep.
You carefully studied Joel’s handsome, weathered face from the safety of your sleeping bag. Even in his sleep, his eyebrows were bunched together, a deep wrinkle ploughing through his skin almost permanently, giving him a worried look. His aquiline nose was buried in the fabric of his sleepsack, his long eyelashes caressing the top of his cheeks.
He would roll his eyes at you every time you called him “gorgeous” or “handsome”, but he really was. You loved to tell him, to help him see through your eyes. You knew he sometimes needed to hear it, to remind him of his own humanity. It was normal to lose sight of it in the current world you lived in.
And you loved him, the whole of him and his ghosts, even though he was a tactless prick sometimes. You had come to learn that when cornered, Joel could react like a beaten dog ― crouched back and showing teeth, ready to bite at the slightest provocation. Couldn’t blame him, even if you tried.
Feeling restless, you carefully unzipped your sleeping bag, not wanting to wake Joel up, and put your boots on. God knew you both needed some rest. Silently you stood up and stretched your back and arms, then one hand mindlessly stroked your belly. It wasn’t swollen at all, but the idea of a life growing inside you sat snugly in the back of your mind.
“What are we going to do, little one?” you whispered to yourself before grabbing your coat.
Needing some fresh air, you walked outside in the middle of the freezing night. It had been snowing, because there were at least three inches of white fluff blanketing the ground. Which meant the car battery could quickly drain and leave you stranded, so you went to check on the hidden Jeep.
Tumblr media
Joel’s body jerked uncontrollably, one leg shaking as if he was falling off a cliff. Instantly waking up, he nervously looked around him, trying to recall where he was.
His hand patted the wooden floor in the dark, and when he located your sleeping bag, his breathing hitched at finding it empty. Then he heard the front door creaking, a sliver of moonlight coming through.
Were you leaving him in the middle of the night? Had he completely broken your trust, your relationship? Had he no chance of mending his mistake? Were you so hurt you would go without a word, without saying goodbye?
God knew he deserved it. He wasn’t cut for a relationship; he always ruined it. Should have known better than falling for you and giving in, but you were so warm, so effortless to love, so natural… How the fuck could he not? He was only human after all.
With a deafening pulse in his eardrums, he kicked the sleeping bag off as he got up with jerky, edgy motions, running towards the door to stop you from leaving him. For you he would fight, he would give you a whole motherfucking speech of why he loved you and how sorry he was. He at least had to try.
Joel swung the door open, and a frosty breeze greeted him, his skin bristled almost painfully at the feeling of frostbite.
You were walking through the snow, wrapped in your coat and with the hood on ― you looked so ethereal, your side profile bathed by the moonlight like a night fairy. Your features glowed under the lunar lustre, and he couldn’t help but fall for you even more.
Barefoot he followed you, his soles numb after a few steps through the snowy mud.
“Babe, wait,” he muttered, one hand reaching for your elbow.
You startled at his touch, and Joel didn’t know if it was rejection or that he had surprised you.
Your big, beautiful eyes widened when you saw him there. You wore a tired expression, and he knew himself the culprit.
“Where are you going?” he questioned in a whisper, heart still and lungs empty.
“I―”
“Please don’t go, don’t leave. I can do better. I’m sorry,” Joel stumbled with his words.
Had never felt this exposed as he was about to split his core in half, to undress emotionally in front of someone, allowing himself to be hurt by the only person it mattered.
But it had to be done to keep you by his side. So he did.
“I panicked. I wasn’t expecting― it didn’t even cross my mind that you… well, could be pregnant. It caught me so off guard, the news didn’t sink in. I’m sorry I reacted like a fucking idiot; I know I’ve disappointed you because of it. It’s just… ‘s hard, you know?” Joel swallowed to dissolve the dense knot forming in his throat, “I already had a shot at fatherhood, and I fucking blew it. I couldn’t protect her despite loving Sarah with all my heart, so the possibility of having to go through all that heartache again… I just, I don’t―”
Joel took in a deep, trembling breath as he unconsciously palmed his broken wristwatch, trying to soothe himself. He attempted to read your expression ― your lips pursed and eyes teary. Was he breaking your heart even further? You were about to cry, and he didn’t know if that was a good thing or a bad one.
Anxiety was taking hold of his throat and gut, strangling him.
“Look, I’m not gonna lie to you. I’m fucking scared, so scared I don’t think words do it justice. But I’m also thrilled, baby, I swear I am. I owe it to you, to myself, to this baby of ours… I ain’t going nowhere. Wherever you go, I’ll follow you both,” he husked, almost breathless. “I’m sorry I said what I said. Neither of us have a choice, but even if we did… I wouldn’t change a thing. This baby is happening for a reason and whatever that is, I’m all in, come what may. I love you, I really do, and I hate myself for having hurt you like this. I just suck at expressing my feelings and―”
You placed a gentle hand on his naked forearm, which made him lose track of what he was saying. Your fingers gently squeezed his cold flesh as you took a step closer to him. Your free hand slid across his left hip, dipping under the tee shirt he was wearing, until it reached the small of his back and you pushed him towards your body.
His taut muscles visibly relaxed at your touch and hug, his lungs filling up as he drew in the deepest breath of his life. Wrapping his arms around you, he held you close to his chest, chin resting on the crown of your head.
“Joel, I wasn’t leaving,” you murmured, cheek nuzzling against him, a tentative smile lingering on your mouth.
Joel’s eyebrows knitted together. From his perspective, it was more than obvious that you were actually leaving.
“Oh? I thought―”
“I was just going to check on the car battery since it’s freezing out here,” you interrupted him, glancing up at him.
Joel pursed his lips together, then licked them nervously.
“Well, everything I said still stands. I am truly sorry, sweetheart,” he said, mouth lightly pressed on your forehead.
A deep sigh after, you took a step back, your hand travelling from his forearm to his fingers, intertwining them with yours. Your palm was so warm in comparison to his, he just realised how little clothing he had on.
“For being a man who “sucks” at expressing his feelings, dare I say you’ve just spoken like a professional orator?” you jested, a grin curling the corners of your lips. “And I am sorry for not being straightforward with you. I was afraid of how you would take the news, and, well…” you shrugged, “you can’t blame me, can you?”
Joel shook his head vehemently. He definitely couldn’t ― the proof was there for both of you to see.
“But I understand how frightening this is for you. I can’t even begin to comprehend how you must have felt when… when Sarah left us. I was so blinded by my own insecurities, I didn’t dwell for too long on how this would affect you emotionally. So I apologise and―”
“Don’t. Don’t apologise, please. That’s a pain for me to bear, you shouldn’t have to think about it.”
“But I do, Joel. I want to bear it with you, so you don’t have to do it alone. That’s the whole point of this, of us. After all, we are going to be a family now,” your voice dropped to a low hum.
A pang of nerves traversed his stomach. No, not a pang, more like… butterflies? Joel had not felt that―the purest form of ecstasy―in a long, long time. The idea of being a dad… it always called him, always felt like that was what he was meant to be, nothing else. Sarah had been the center of his world and while no one could ever change that for him, the possibility of having another child to shower with the love he had buried… it was so overwhelming it brought tears to his eyes, his breathing shallow.
“A family,” he repeated, voice raspy with emotion.
You nodded and laughed, teary eyes too.
“A family, Joel. You’re gonna be a dad,” you snickered, now sobbing.
He couldn’t help but join you, draping his arms around you to bring you against his chest.
He didn’t deserve you, your forgiveness. The second chance you were offering him, in all the senses. A second chance with you. A second chance to form a family. A second chance in life, really.
Joel cradled your flushed cheeks, tilting your face up so his mouth hovered over yours.
“I can’t believe my fucking luck, honestly. You, the mother of my child…” he didn’t finish the sentence because he would choke on his own words if so. Took a second to compose himself. “If I’m ever such a dick aga―”
“Are you planning on being a dick often, Joel Miller?” you said playfully with a cocked brow.
He laughed, feeling completely at ease.
“I hope not. But if I ever attempt to be, just kick me in the balls so I may come to my senses quicker, please,” he replied with a lopsided grin.
His thumbs caressed the apples of your cheeks before bowing down to kiss you. A slow, loving stroke of his tongue over yours and he felt everything was right again. Your sweet taste soothed him, his mind finally at ease. How you achieved that for him with the mere brush of your soft lips, he didn’t understand.
You were the one to break the kiss, pecking his lips a few times before finally taking a step back.
“Let’s go back inside, you must be freezing only with those sweatpants and a shirt.”
And with that, all the anxiety, the mental struggle, was forgotten.
Joel took your tiny hand in his broad one and led you back inside the cabin. Dried off his feet quickly before helping you out of your winterwear and settle back in in the sleeping bag ― his sleeping bag. Luckily it was big enough for the both of you.
You hugged each other, trying to get back to sleep, but both of your hearts were fluttering so hard, it was difficult to ignore the excitement.
“I’m so thrilled right now, I don’t think I can go to sleep just yet. I can’t believe this is happening,” you whispered with a beautiful grin.
Joel couldn’t help but notice how you were beaming now, how much worry you had carried the last couple of days because of him. He felt infinitely better now that the joyful spark had returned to your eyes.
Dragging his thumb across your jawline, tracing an invisible line on your soft skin, Joel tilted your face towards him, his heart swollen with love. He hadn’t felt this alive in ages.
“Neither can I,” he admitted in a rasp.
His right hand roamed your body under the sleeping bag until it found the perfect spot to rest: your belly. Joel splayed his fingers over your lower tummy protectively, wanting to shield you both from any harm.
You hovered one of your hands over his, your palm stroking the back of his hand in a light caress. It felt like such an intimate moment, a respite among all madness and darkness, that he knew he would treasure it forever. When days would become hard, he’d only have to think back to this exact moment in time ― both of you cocooned in a sleeping back, warm and loving, calm and happy.
Fuck, was he happy and grateful. It still felt like a dream, but this was real. You were real. Yes, he was fucking scared out of his mind too, but the joy he was feeling right now eclipsed everything else.
With rough lips, he coaxed yours apart, the tip of his tongue tentatively swiping your teeth so you would let him in ― the place where he felt most at home. And you happily complied with a subtle sigh. Your tongues curled around one another, your sultry taste and sweet scent overtaking all his senses.
Joel felt your hand dragging his downwards and only took him one second to catch on. Soon his fingers were buried under your panties, his hand cupping your mound possessively while his middle finger dipped in your slit ever so slightly to faintly stroke your hooded clit.
Just one stroke.
“Joel,” you cooed, and he inhaled your breathless plea.
“I know, baby,” he hummed back, gifting you with another light stroke.
Your thighs trembled around his hand, and you parted them involuntarily, your body telling him everything he needed to know.
So he obliged, his finger slipping from your clit to your crying hole, gathering the wetness on the tip to bring it back up to your sensitive nub. With languid touches, Joel paid precise attention to your bundle of nerves with his thumb, while his index and middle fingers rubbed your dripping furrow incessantly, his fingertips hitching in your entrance from time to time.
You gasped, chest heaving and back arched, when Joel finally dived those two fingers in your slick, warm entrance. He groaned at your responsiveness, your eagerness, always ready for him. He could never have enough of you; of that he was fucking sure.
Joel nipped your neck, his stubble tickling your skin, then lapped at it while the rhythm of his hand increased. He knew you loved it when he curled his fingers, stroking that heavenly spot that would drive you wild with lust.
Then he suddenly stilled and you grinded your wet pussy against his palm, desperate for release, your hips tilting underneath.
“Joel, please,” you begged in a whisper, your walls clenching around his digits.
“Please what, sweetheart?”
“I wanna come, please let me,” you pleaded with half-lidded, glassy eyes, melting under his touch.
“What a good girl, asking for permission,” he grazed your slack jaw with his bare teeth, then soothed the bite with a kiss. “No, not a good girl, a good momma, aren’t ya?” he corrected himself, his erection swelling at the thought. “Not yet, baby.”
He teased you a bit more, dragging the pleasure, letting it build and coil inside you the way he knew you liked it.
“F-fuck… Joel…” you moaned, his fingers still and deep buried inside you, your hole squeezing uncontrollably.
Your pleas worked, because soon enough Joel was fingering you relentlessly, pumping in and out of you fast ― your gushing cunt making obscene, squelching noises under the sleeping bag. Your moans grew louder as the pace between your thighs increased, your back so arched Joel feared you might break it.
“You can come now, baby,” he spoke softly, knowing you were holding back until you got his permission.
Then your walls furiously fluttered around his digits, choking and clamping and clutching. And Joel fucked you with his fingers through your orgasm, his thumb smothering your clit, applying the right amount of pressure. You keened, breathing heavy, as you came down from your climax, eyes shut and mouth agape.
Joel leaned to kiss you, his wet, pruney fingers still embedded in your leaking hole while your hand teasingly caressed his tummy, his muscles straining in anticipation.
“Feeling calmer?” he asked, the tip of his crooked nose nuzzling your ear as his fingers slid out with a pop.
“Mhmm, way calmer now,” you husked, tipping your face to trap his mouth with yours. “Let me help you relax too, gorgeous.”
A deep rumble coursed through his chest as your tiny fist dove and wrapped around his swollen girth, your thumb gently caressing the leaky head under his underwear.
He was ready just by working you, that was the power you held over him and Joel was fully aware of it. And he didn’t care one bit, he loved that you could get him hard just like that. It was lust, but it was love too; a deep, shared connection ― something he’d not felt before with anyone else.
You pumped him slow at first, your teeth scraping the skin over his Adam’s apple, then his jawline, until you hunted down his lips, swallowing his gruffy moans. Your playful hand stroked him faster, your fingers gripping harder, and he was close to losing his mind.
Then you licked his neck and nibbled his earlobe, and Joel had to summon all strength he could muster to not come there and then. You giggled at his intense reaction ― his muscles so tight he could snap at any moment, his breathing heavier and erratic.
Your hand imposed a devilish pace upon his throbbing cock, jerking him off fast and furious now, seeing how far you could take him before he broke. His balls felt tight and heavy, ready to spill his warm load on your hand.
Joel couldn’t stop groaning even if he fucking tried ― it had only been five days since the last time he fucked you, but those were too many days already. He pursed his lips together, eyebrows knitting in concentration to not come yet, while your mouth ghosted his. A few moans ended up slipping out and you breathed them in as you masturbated him with a tight grip.
And whatever cue he gave you, you knew he was close ― his orgasm imminent. Swiftly you dived your head under the sleeping bag and Joel lost sight of you. You freed his erection and a second later he felt your plump lips seal around his mushroom head.
His hands curled into tight fists, your little licks, taps and laps maddening. Then you suckled the swollen tip as if it was your personal pacifier.
“Holy fuck,” he huffed, shutting his eyes, as your wicked tongue commended him to come, your hand working his shaft dextrously.
Joel couldn’t hold it any longer. With a deep moan, he blew his sticky load in your mouth, and you drank eagerly from him. He felt your plush lips pecking his balls, then his column, and finally the tip, showing gratitude to his softening dick. Tucking his cock back into his underwear, you patted his bulge, gently, for a sweet second.
Then you popped your head out of the sleeping bag with a sinful grin, your thumb swiping across the corner of your mouth to gather a drop of his cum and guiding it back inside. Joel cupped your chin to bring your face closer to his.
“Thanks, baby. Always so thoughtful,” he joked before tasting himself on your tongue.
“Anytime,” you snickered.
You settled across his chest, warm bodies and calmer hearts, and a comfortable silence filled the room. Soon after that, you both fell into a peaceful slumber.
Tumblr media
You woke up first, Joel’s arms draped around your shoulders in a solid hug, almost suffocating you. The first morning light filtered through the bare window, casting elongated shadows of the trees outside across the floorboards. Morning dew condensed on the windowpane, frozen like tiny, sparkly snowflakes. Some birds chirped, their melody pacifying. The whole scene was so tranquil, you didn’t want this moment to end.
Loafing about, you nuzzled Joel’s sternum, his thorax slowly rising, then coming down. His heart beat steadily too, so calming it almost lull you back to sleep. Something about Joel sleeping so profoundly made you feel at peace. Both of you had a very much needed rest after a tense couple of days.
You stroked the hairy trail down his belly button absentmindedly.
Joel grunted and stirred under you, his curved eyelashes fluttering a few times before his beautiful brown eyes stared at you. A boyish smile curled the corners of his lips before he closed his eyes again, hugging you closer. Joel buried his nose in your hair, then inhaled audibly.
“As much I’d love to stay here forever with you, I think we should get going,” you laughed, palming his chest.
He groaned, pinching the bridge of his aquiline nose. He wasn’t a morning person.
“Alright. I’ll get up just ‘cause you’re asking nicely,” he conceded, one hand reaching out of the sleeping bag to unzip it.
The cold air hit you both and you regretted your decisions, but if you wanted to find Tommy soon, you were not going to achieve that from this cabin, as idyllic as it felt to be here, in your bubble with Joel.
Half an hour later you were both up and fully awake. Joel was packing away the sleeping bags when he suddenly stopped.
“Fuck. You didn’t check on the battery last night, did you?” he asked, rubbing the back of his neck.
You bit down your bottom lip and shook your head no.
“Shit. No, I didn’t. I, well― got distracted,” you replied apologetically, a nervous chuckle slipping.
“You mean I distracted you, right?” the teasing edge to his voice made you smile. “Don’t worry, love, ‘s alright. I’ll go check on it before we go into town.”
Joel brought you in for a hug, his hands lacing on the small of your back. He brushed his lips against yours in a chaste kiss and you wanted to laugh so badly, you sniggered. This man, pretending to be so decent now.
“What’s so funny?” he enquired, a cocked brow, not letting you go of his embrace just yet.
“You being so gentlemanly and proper now with your decorous kissing, as if you didn’t make me come with just your fingers last night. As if I didn’t eat yo―” you jested bluntly, butterflies filling your belly.
Joel growled at your provocation, interrupting you, his hips flush with yours.
“That nasty mouth of yours is gonna be my downfall one of these days,” he muttered. Then he kissed you, his tongue quick and ravishing. “Enough. Stop being so damn tempting.”
He let go of you, taking a step back and turning around. You took the opportunity to smack his ass before he walked off with a smirk on his lips.
You stayed inside, gathering all the bits and stuffing them back in your backpacks. You were going to venture into Oswego today again, stake out the town and the area where Joel thought Tommy and his group would most probably be.
Shuffling through your belongings, you found the pregnancy test you took a few days ago. The digital screen was still displaying the positive result ― one you dreaded, but then embraced.
In the span of forty-eight hours, you thought your relationship with Joel had crumbled down and reduced to nothingness, to then come back stronger like a phoenix rising from its ashes.
The look on his face when he thought you were leaving him still haunted you ― you hoped he would forget that feeling sooner rather than later. His confession had tugged at your heart so much, you had forgiven him after the first sentence. But you had let him keep on talking, because the self-indulgent part of yourself wanted to hear him say all those things. It wasn’t often that Joel Miller would make use of his mouth to verbally express his feelings.
You smiled to yourself, tremendously happy with how the situation had turned out in the end.
Throwing your backpack over your shoulders and Joel’s hanging from one arm, you walked outside with the pregnancy still on your hand, daydreaming ― your grin now permanently sculpted into your features.
Then you heard a voice you quickly recognised.
Tommy’s.
You froze halfway through the three steps on the porch, your gaze scanning the area until you found them.
Joel had a very schooled expression, almost blank, while Tommy frowned, gripping a shotgun close to his chest.
“You’ve been following me?” the younger Miller asked, visibly upset.
“Yes, we have, you dickhead,” Joel replied, his voice restrained. “You just left a―”
“We?” Tommy scoffed, taking a step back. “You’ve not ditched her body yet?”
Joel’s hazel eyes found yours, still glued to the steps. A silent plea for you to go back inside, sensing this would not end well. And you tried ― you took a step back to run back into the cabin, but Tommy was quicker.
Tommy turned around and almost jumped back as if he had seen a ghost. Probably because he thought he had.
You raised your hands up, showing him you were no threat.
“Hey, Tommy,” you greeted him with a feeble smile. “If you keep pointing that gun at me, I’m gonna start thinking it’s personal,” you joked to diffuse the situation.
“Tommy,” Joel’s firm voice made his brother looked at him askance, his pupils fixed right back on you. “Hey.”
Joel’s fingers wrapped around the barrel, pushing it down so it wouldn’t point at you anymore. You could see Tommy’s stiffness from the distance, ready to do whatever it was necessary.
When Joel yanked at the shotgun, Tommy broke eye contact with you to stare at his brother, not letting go of the shotgun.
“How’s she alive?”
“It’s a long story, bu―”
“She’s fucking infected. You’re fucking infected!” he screamed in a panic, stumbling back with his own feet and then directing the gun back at you.
Joel tried to approach him while you stayed as still as possible, your breathing hitching. Would he shoot? You hoped not, but he looked scared enough to do so.
“Tommy, listen to me―” Joel attempted to talk to him again.
“What’s that you’re holding?” Tommy snapped at you, ignoring his brother.
You paled. You had forgotten the pregnancy test was on your hand, lost as you were in your train of thought when you had walked out of the cabin.
No words left your mouth ― your orbs quickly found Joel’s. Both of you, frightened to death. Not for yourselves, but for your baby.
Tommy wouldn’t hurt you, would he? Unconsciously, your free hand dropped to your belly, wanting to protect this new life you were harbouring, growing.
Tommy’s façade fell, his jaw slack.
“You’re PREGNANT?!”
Joel reacted first, standing in the way, the barrel kissing the center of his chest. Then he pushed Tommy back, his composed expression gone. He was angry, you could tell. Really angry. You had only seen him that irate the night those two men almost raped you.
“If you ever point that gun at her again, I swear to fucking God, I’ll kill you myself with my bare hands, Tommy,” he growled.
Tommy blinked rapidly, his resolution coming back as he cocked the gun again.
“You both have lost your fucking minds,” Tommy scoffed, walking backwards towards the woods. “Don’t follow me anymore. Leave me the fuck alone.”
A minute after, the younger brother disappeared between the trees and Joel rushed to your side, his anger transforming into urgency.
“We gotta go.”
His words were impregnated with the same panic you were feeling.
Tumblr media
Unbelievable, Tommy thought.
Had his brother gone mad? What the fuck was he thinking? And how were you alive? What kind of sinister magic was that?
He had so many unanswered questions, his head throbbed with an impending headache. Tommy needed the distance and the time to think this through. At first, he had been elated at seeing his brother after so long, but the excitement quickly shifted the moment he saw Joel accompanied by you. And fucking pregnant, by the looks of it.
Shaking his head, Tommy hooted like an owl, letting the people keeping watch know that he was approaching the two houses they all had been living in. The two buildings were on the forest boundary, far enough of other homes but close enough to town.
Bursting in through the doors, Laney met him in the corridor, hands on hips.
“So?”
“They are here. And what’s worst, she’s alive and pregnant,” Tommy almost spit the last word out.
Laney’s scowl deepened.
“Pregnant? Like, with a fucking zombie-like monster growing inside of her?”
The emphasis on that specific word made Tommy frown. He wouldn’t go as far as to say that. Laney could be a little dramatic sometimes.
“Well, I don’t know. No, I don’t think so? I mean, she looked fine, so I guess―” Laney walked past him, interrupting what he was saying. “Where are you going?”
“On patrol. Need to go into town for some supplies.”
“Need a hand?”
“No. Stay here, keep watch.”
And with that, she stepped out and closed the door behind her, leaving Tommy in the middle of the hallway with a nagging doubt picking at the back of his brain.

Reader’s POV
DAY 4: MONDAY 🌊
The sun was just starting to peek through the blinds, streams of soft light rolling over the bed. You yawned and stretched out wide, feeling your limbs tense and relax. You shifted your body and found the other side of the bed was cool, Bucky must have left a while ago. You noticed his open suitcase on the floor, and he looked mostly packed.
Wanda and Vision had left late after the bonfire the night before. You frowned at the thought. You didn’t want to leave, at least not yet. It was so sunny and spacious here. You tucked yourself further into the covers and groaned, knowing you should get up, but what’s a few more minutes?
You nearly fell back asleep until you remembered your flight was creeping up, and you still needed to pack up your things. Begrudgingly, you removed yourself from the comfort of Bucky’s bed, and creaked out of his door.
Just as you were shutting the door behind you, you made eye contact with Miles, as he was simultaneously leaving his room.
You began to smile but his words came first.
“I thought you said you were sleeping on the couch,” he scrunched his eyebrows.
“I did. I was,” you said, rubbing your arms for warmth.
“Then how come you’re leaving his room?” He countered, crossing his arms across his chest.
“He saw I was uncomfortable and told me I could sleep in his room.” You simply stated, and walked over to the couch to grab your sweatshirt off the back of it.
“And you said yes?”
“Yeah..?” You replied skeptically, pulling the garment over your body.
“Y/N.” He deadpanned.
“Miles.” You mirrored.
“Drop the innocence. You’re telling me you don’t see what this looks like?” He gestured between you and Bucky’s door.
You followed his hand, still confused about what he was getting at.
“No?” You responded, sticking your hands into the pouch of your sweatshirt.
“Because it looks like you cheated on me.”
You blinked once. Twice. A third time.
“What?”
“Did you sleep with him?” Miles pointed to Bucky’s room.
“What the fuck? No!” You took a step back, incredulous.
Is this some sort of joke?
Miles' voice started to raise, and yours with it.
“Well how am I supposed to know that? Because that’s the way it fuckin’ looks right now!”
“Because I’m your girlfriend and we are supposed to trust each other!” You scoffed.
“The person I don’t trust is Bucky!”
“What do you have against him?” You groaned, truly curious to what all this animosity was for.
“He’s obsessed with you! The dumb and oblivious act was cute at first, but wake the fuck up! Are you stupid?” He tapped his head aggressively.
You balked. Where is this coming from? Did he just call me an idiot?
“Miles,” you calmly stated, trying to center yourself, “I do not like the way you are acting right now.”
“I’m acting this way because of you! I can’t trust you as long as he is around. How did you think it was a good idea to sleep in another guy’s bed when you already have a boyfriend?”
“I don’t know!” You threw your hands up, “I was tired, and upset, and it’s not like Bucky and I have never slept in the same bed before! We go on missions together!”
“Great, so now I have to worry about the past as well!” Miles scoffed.
“You don’t have to worry about anything!”
“He’s manipulated you, can’t you see that? He’s been playing me this whole time, trying to pit you against me.”
“Miles, you’re talking nonsense,”
“Sweetheart, men and women can never be friends. I know this is hard for you, but you have to accept that he will never see you as just a friend. He will always be sabotaging your happiness as long as you’re with someone who isn’t him!”
“You’re pissing me off!”
“Open your eyes!”
The front door swung open, and Bucky appeared with a box of donuts in hand. He quickly looked between you and Miles, obviously sensing that you were in the middle of something. He shut the door behind him without taking his eyes off you. You looked at Bucky almost pleadingly.
“Doll?”
“Baby, I’m begging you, please,” Miles continued, taking a couple steps toward you, “I’ll forget about the past. Just tell me you see where I’m coming from with him. I love you.”
You froze.
“You—you what me?”
“I love you.” Miles put his hand over his heart.
What the fuck?
“You were just screaming at me telling me I cheated on you!”
“You make me crazy about you! Baby,” Miles begged, trying to step closer to you, but you stepped back.
“I don’t even know what to say anymore.” You scoffed humorlessly.
“Fuck it, fine,” Miles mumbled, and lowered himself on one knee. “Will you marry me?”
Your eyes went impossibly wide, and you heard the sound of a box being dropped on the floor.
“WHAT?” You and Bucky yelled at the same time.
“Will you marry me?” He repeated.
“Oh my God, I’ve dated a madman—” you shook your head in disbelief, and brought your palms to your cheeks at the pure absurdity of the situation.
“I think you need to take a walk, Miles,” Bucky finally spoke up, and picked up the box of donuts that had found itself on the floor.
“So you can be alone with her? Not a chance.” He sneered.
“Miles, we are done.” You enunciated every word. “This is over. Clearly I have made a huge mistake.”
“No, I don’t accept that!”
“Accept it? I’m not offering to pay for dinner!” You screeched. “I’m breaking up with you! You don’t have to ‘accept’ it, but you’re gonna have to live with it!”
“Back up,” Bucky growled, seeing Miles try to step closer to you.
To your surprise, Miles seemed to listen. He took a step back, and then disappeared into the kitchen. Before you and Bucky could utter a single word, he was back holding the sand dollar Bucky had given you yesterday.
“You love him, don’t you?” Miles asked, relatively calm, as he pointed at Bucky.
The room went completely silent.
“I– I–” You didn’t know what to say.
“You love him!” He shouted, and held up the precious shell. You were too slow—he threw it against the wall.
“No!” You cried, and gasped, seeing the pieces shatter to the ground.
“See! You care more about a stupid shell than me!” Miles gestured to the mess he’d made.
“That’s enough,” Bucky seethed, and grabbed Miles by the back of his neck, picking him up like you would a puppy.
Miles argued but Bucky persisted, and carried him out the front door.
The moment you heard the door shut, you sank to your knees and began to cry.
Yes, because of the shell, but you knew it was so much more than that. You were exhausted, embarrassed, and conflicted.
Miles' voice rang in your ears.
You love him! You love him! You love him!
An uncomfortable pit planted itself in your stomach. Miles not only hit a nerve, but it felt as if he had exposed it.
You can’t keep running from this. You can’t keep running from your feelings. You thought you could fix yourself, but all you did was distract yourself from the truth.
I am in love with Bucky Barnes. I have been for a very long time.
“Fuck,” you choked, tucking your forehead into your knees.
You couldn’t tell if you were more mad that it had taken you this long to accept it, or that you accepted it at all.
These feelings for your best friend were dangerous. They had been barred and locked up behind your rusting heart for so long, but now they were in the forefront of your mind, and you knew there were risks.
You knew that if Bucky didn’t reciprocate your feelings, you’d be okay. Upset, yes, but you knew you would survive as long as you had Bucky as your friend. The real fear is if Bucky loves you back. What if you don’t work out? Will your friendship survive that caliber of heartbreak? Of knowing what it’s like to have the other completely, only to give it up?
But you were tired, so tired, of lying to him, yourself, the world.
You wiped your eyes and pulled yourself up from the ground. You needed fresh air.
Tumblr media
You weren’t sure how long you stood before the water, watching the waves crash and the water barely making it to your toes.
Bucky appeared next to you. He didn’t say anything for a moment, just took a deep breath of the ocean air.
“I took him to the airport.”
“Is that a euphemism?”
“No,” he chuckled, “I sent him home. I figured we could catch another flight later, and stay here for a little longer. Housekeeping won’t be here until noon, right?”
“Yeah.”
“I snuck a couple bullets in his pockets. TSA is going to tear him apart.”
You didn’t bother asking him where he got the bullets.
“Bucky, be honest with me.”
“What is it?”
“Miles hasn’t been kind to you, has he?” It was phrased like a question, but sounded like a statement.
He froze for a second, struggling for the right words.
“No.” He eventually sighed.
“And you didn’t tell me…because you didn’t want to disappoint me?”
“It was nothing I couldn’t handle.”
“This is all my fault,” you sniveled, and dropped yourself onto the sand.
“No it’s not,” Bucky sat down with you, and put his hand on your back.
“It is. I can’t believe I ignored how awful he was. I can’t believe I let him hurt you. I should’ve known I couldn’t force that relationship. I just wanted the distraction, y’know?” “Distraction?”
“Bucky…” you trailed off, and forced yourself to look at him. “I only went out with him because I thought it would help me get over my feelings for you. But here we are, I’ve only made things worse, and I still love you. And it’s fine if you don’t feel the same, I just can’t keep lying to myself.”
Bucky’s eyes went wide.
Oh god. He’s upset? He’s happy? Surprised?
Before you could backtrack and take back what you’d said, Bucky’s hands were holding your face, his only inches away.
“What are you doing?” You asked, nervous for what was going to happen next.
His eyes glittered softly, looking into yours.
“I’m making the wave,” he whispered, and he dove in for the kiss.
You gave a soft gasp at his quick movements, but immediately responded, bringing your hand behind his neck to keep him close to you.
The kiss was desperate, and filled with longing, as you found yourself falling back into the sand, Bucky holding himself right above you. The fall broke the kiss, but you didn’t mind, because it gave you the gorgeous view of Bucky hovering above you, panting, and smiling like an idiot.
You giggled and leaned up to kiss his chin, his cheeks almost as pink as his lips.
As adorable as he looked, eyes shining as he took you in, you were getting impatient, and crashed your lips to his. You caught him off guard, but he was quick to recover.
“Wait, wait,” you panted, lightly pushing him off of you.
“What’s wrong?” He pulled back looking frazzled, a mix of concern and adoration in his ocean eyes.
“Nothing,” you reassured him, and reached into your back pocket, “I just want to get a picture of this.”
You sat up and placed yourself next to Bucky, putting your phone in selfie mode.
You captured his cheesy smile as you placed a kiss on his left cheek. Bucky watched as you quickly tapped away on your phone, and he smirked once he saw what you’d done.
To: Miles [File Attachment: IMG_6123] Thx for making me realize what I really needed Fuck you for everything else bastard
“And…blocked.” You said, a satisfied grin on your face.
“God, I love you,” Bucky crooned.
“I love you,” you responded, pulling him back in for another kiss.
The waves crashed hopefully behind you.

I'm so sorry if the ending feels too abrupt, I really didn't know how to end it. If you have any question about the story, feel free to ask!
All that being said, thank you once again you beautiful people.

Chapter 20.5: Home (Noritoshi’s POV)
What a reckless girl. Noritoshi thought to himself as he smoothed out your hair. You were frowning in your sleep.
The both of you were in your room back at the Tsuchimikado estate. Despite its smaller size compared to the estate of the Kamo clan, it was really peaceful here. Noritoshi liked it.
He still couldn’t believe they let the both of you stay in your room unattended. They might be more opposed to it back in his clan, but your mother seemed fine with it. Smiling as she ushered him in, with him still carrying you in his arms. Your father was still back in the clinic in the main city district area, talking with the other higher ups.
It was really dark at night and the estate was so silent, which wasn’t a surprise. There was a small Koi pond and several houses connected by wooden floorboards.
As he entered your room, Noritoshi was unsurprised to see that it was very similar to your dorm room back in the Kyoto campus.
A queen sized bed is covered in soft lilac sheets and comforters. The heaters were turned on so the temperature in the room was just right.
Some household attendants came in and offered him a change of clothes before taking your limp body away. A pitcher of drinking water and two glasses were set aside. He cleaned up in the guest bathroom before returning to your room.
Noritoshi sweat dropped as he respectfully faced away from the bathroom. He has seen you unclothed before, but this was different. You were knocked out and at your family home. It felt improper to think of such things.
The sounds of water running and the attendants fussing over you filled the silence. It was surprising to him that you didn’t even wake up despite all the commotion.
You must have been too exhausted from the fight.
He would be lying if he said he didn’t want to look around your room. Your wardrobe, vanity, jewelry box, bags, but the one thing that caught his eye was your diary, right in the middle of your study desk.
Also, you had framed photos of your family. He sees another black haired girl beside you. His heart tightened upon seeing both of your young and joyful faces.
A tragedy at such a young age wasn’t unheard of in the jujutsu society, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less painful.
As soon as they had finished putting your pajamas on you, they handed you over to him like you were a doll.
“Please take care of her for us.” The two attendants looked more curious about him rather than concerned. Noritoshi guessed that they helped raise you.
“Thank you for trusting me. I’ll take good care of her.”
He tucked you into bed after they left and turned off the lights, trying to fluff your pillows and make you more comfortable. He smiled as he grabbed your giant My Melody plushie and placed it against your side.
His soul mark was glowing and pulsing warmly against his wrist. Noritoshi tightened his hand into a fist on instinct, and immediately the red strings appeared.
They were always just loosely hanging around in the space between both of you in a circular pattern. Even in the dark of the room, he could see how the rope from his pinky finger extends over to yours.
“Welcome home.” He whispers.
The entire time, he put his faith into waiting for you to come back to him. To see what went wrong after you both took a break from each other. Of course, Noritoshi also did his best to reflect on himself.
He had his own selfish reasons for keeping you from meeting the family right away. And it wasn’t something that escaped your attention. It was both frustrating and convenient to be in tune with each other.
When one pulls back the other feels it right away. Picking up the hints of irritation, anger, guilt, joy, and love. Being in a relationship took more effort than he realized. But it was still so worth it. It’s far too painful to be apart from each other.
He’d do anything to keep all of you for himself. “I’m not as selfless as you think I am, Y/N.” he whispered.
He settles in and easily falls asleep beside you.
◇◇◇
Later that same evening, Noritoshi woke up again for the nth time that night, finding himself in the middle of a restless sleep.
You were currently lying down on one of his arms, stretched out underneath you. And even though it was getting sore, he couldn’t bring himself to pull it away, lest he wake you up. And besides, having you back in his arms was worth it.
You whimpered his name, still asleep. He immediately leans forward, pressing a kiss onto your forehead. “I’m right here, love."
You quieted down, snuggling closer to him. He pulled the sheets over your shoulders and tucked your head underneath his chin.
Away from the chaos and the curses for a while. Right now, there is nowhere he’d rather be.

Those who weave (New Series Snippet)
Tumblr media
So, I’m starting a new series! I’m not dropping Nostalgia of course, and that series is still my priority so this one won’t have scheduled updates, but I’m having a really tough time writing (in general, and for Nostalgia in specific) so I decided to start posting this one.
It is a Reincarnation fic, basically, with some curse elements. Of course, an AU, takes place mainly in the Viking era, late Middle Ages, and modern times.
It is an Ivar/Reader fic, but it does have a lot of Freydis in it, because...it’s me, of course it has Freydis on it. I am trying a new side of her on this one tho!
A few things about this story:
It is a Reader-insert, and though I do have a faceclaim for her (Turkish actress Özge Törer) it is for graphic thingies, no descriptions in the story. However, it isn’t very inclusive, since in some of their lives her and Freydis are half sisters. I’m sorry for that.
It will be divided into three acts/lives: Sight, Love, and Time.
It is a fucking mess. I have to leave behind very important themes of the canon story, like the aspect of Valhalla, and Ivar’s ambitions of fame, and many other things, because they simply don’t fit as conflicts or themes with a multiple-lives dynamic. But I have fun writing this, and I hope you will have fun reading it.
So yeah, I really don’t know how to make these announcement thingies, but I wanted to make one for this cause a) I worked really hard on that graphic thingy and I want you to see it cause I’m stupidly proud of myself, and b) I wanna check who wants to be tagged for this.
I’m tagging those on my ‘All’ taglist, please lemme know if you wanna be added or removed! Love ya!
Snippet of...something under the cut. It technically happens during the Love Act, but it is a scene that doesn’t happen in the main story, an alternate POV of sorts.
So, quick ground rules: Ivar remembers their past lives (not all of it, but he remembers the Reader and Freydis, and sometimes other people), Freydis and the Reader don’t remember anything most of the time (but Freydis has premonitions regarding her and her sister’s futures).
I hope you like it 😉
Katia sits before you on the bed, her back to you and her eyes closed as you methodically brush her hair. Just like you used to when you were children.
Your mother taught you differently than Katia’s mother did, and she remembers how endlessly fascinated you were while growing up at how she chose to wear her hair with rarely any coverings, just as she was so delighted in finding linens and jewels to make and adorn your shawls and veils.
Your fingers replace the brush, and she feels you carefully toying with the strands of her hair.
You sigh, a little wistfully, a little lost.
“I liked it better when your hair was blonde,” You tell her, chuckling after your words like you haven’t just stopped her heart with but a sentence, “I miss braiding it.”
Katia tells herself this is nothing out of the ordinary. Since you were children she has heard you talk of a world neither of you ever knew, little lost promises of a life that was nothing but a dream.
She remembers how you’d wake her up saying your chest hurt and that you didn’t want to leave her alone, how you’d sit at her side in the mornings and ask if you’d ever be back home even as you had breakfast in the only home you had known; and she remembers how just as easily you’d lay by her side and sleep again with no memory of your pain come morning, how you’d smile wistfully and forget your nostalgia with a bite of a biscuit and the start of your day.
All her life, she has written it off as nothing other than illusions, nothing other than the soft heart of her sister lingering in a world of dreams.
Now, she isn’t so sure they are dreams. Now, she isn’t so sure she doesn’t know Ivar, now she isn’t so sure he is crazy.
The man towers over her, but strangely enough, Katia doesn’t feel fear.
All she feels is anger. All she feels is rage and hate.
And a part of her feels strangely vindicated at the lost look in his eyes, like someone she never was -or someone she never stopped being- is cruelly delighted at his pain.
“You are Freydis,” He tells her, and she keeps careful eyes on him but says nothing, “You’re playing games with me, y-you’ve cursed me.”
“Cursed you?” She asks, the beginning of a smile on her lips. To anyone else, she might look like a woman that has lost her mind, but, to him, she dares think, she looks like a woman powerful, a woman he’d wage war against. “I would think I’d have a reason to curse you. Tell me…did I?”
There’s something there, something human in all the rage of a monster, something like pain, like grief. But the man doesn’t allow it to linger for long, and the pain morphs into wrath before her eyes.
“You took everything from me.” He snarls, rough hand grabbing Katia’s arm and forcing her closer. His eyes are piercing and wrathful as they look into hers.
“What is going on here?” You call out from behind her. And the man’s eyes leave her to focus on you as you approach. His hand drops from her arm, and Katia holds her breath.
Pale blue eyes shine as your soft footsteps approach, and as the man’s expression trembles with something like pain, something like hope, something like love; Katia finds herself afraid to turn around and find a woman she doesn’t recognize in her sister’s place.
She notices the change in him at the sight of you, and for the first time she feels fear.
And she waits now, with baited breath, for you to shake off the veil of dreams, the chimera of something that never was, that never would be.
But you don’t. You continue trailing soft and delicate fingers through her long hair, as if you aren’t making dread and fear poison her from the inside with each passing breath of silence.
“Blonde?” She asks, and her voice trembles, but she doesn’t care.
“Mhm,” You mumble, not really paying attention. After a moment, you take a breath and start again, “Ivar’s eyes were very blue today, di-…”
“His name isn’t Ivar. You should know that by now.”
“That’s what he said his name is.” You insist, but there’s a strange stillness to the way you hold yourself now, when she turns to meet your gaze.
“And he says my name is different too, do you believe him?”
“You aren’t Freydis,” You chuckle, saying the name that haunts Katia’s dreams with terrifying ease. And it feels familiar, coming from your lips. As familiar as the curve of your smile, as familiar as the way you look at that monster that pretends to be a man. You reach with your hand to put a lock of dark hair behind her ear, and offer a soft smile, “Your hair is different.”
She asks what she hasn’t dared ask in a whole life at your side, “W-What else is different?”
“Everything is, and…nothing is,” Your eyes are dazed, and though you are looking directly at her Katia would swear you cannot see her. “You’re my sister, and you love me. That hasn’t changed.”
She doesn’t quite understand why a part of her sighs in relief at hearing you admit you know -knew?- of her love for you, but she does understand why a part of her tightens in fear at the implications that swim in her mind.
And she voices another question, “And what he is to you, has that changed?”
She doesn’t say his name, maybe because she doesn’t know which one to utter.
You smile, and your eyes focus a bit on her, see more of her, “That could never change.”
Her eyes fall from yours, for she cannot keep looking into a familiar hue and see familiar warmth.
She feels you lean forward and press your brow against hers, a gesture of comfort that only makes her shut her eyes tight and bite back a sob.
“Alll our Fates are woven together,” You promise, a death sentence as you grasp your sister’s hand. “We may forget, but those who weave our Fates cannot.”
Come morning, you won’t remember the previous night; come morning Ivar’s eyes will be less blue; come morning, his pain won’t make the memories return to you like strings that tighten and tell you he needs you, or who you once were.
Come morning, you won’t remember. But Katia will.
And she will vow to do whatever it takes not to lose you to him.

Thank you for reading! Hope I could catch your interest! The first chapter will be up between Tuesday and Wednesday :)

more sad venty jayce drabbles because he is my vessel for these now. featuring second person pov as a way to portray dissociation, unreliable narrator jayce, [TW] non-graphic suicidal thoughts and ideation, and sad sad times. i dont know when this takes place, some time near the end of the act two timeskip. 1.2k words
--
Your name is Jayce Talis and you are falling out of love.
You stand outside the door to the lab you share with your partner, staring at the metal frame and wishing you were as inanimate.
You glance down to the handle and tell yourself to open it. You squeeze your eyes shut, inhale deeply through the nose, and exhale slowly through the mouth. You force your shoulders to relax and your brows to unfurrow. You hold your cheeks in that deliberate way that looks like you’re always seconds from a smile. Today, it hurts. Days where it hurts are more frequent lately.
Half in your body and half in your mind, you open the door and step inside. Your feet carry you automatically to your partner’s work station, to see what he’s worked on all night, because you know he hasn’t left since you left him last night.
“Hey, Vik, how’s the grind?” You say, voice only slightly strained. It’s fine, you’re tired. You rest a weary hand on Viktor’s shoulder and try to ignore the way the bone curls underneath your palm.
Viktor hums at you, offhand. Probably didn’t even hear you. Probably didn’t even notice you left last night. Looks like he didn’t even sleep, not even slumped over his desk like usual, in a way that only strains his leg and back more. When was the last time he rested, you wonder? When was the last time you had space in your mind to wonder about anything else?
You cannot stop a sigh, but you don’t need to anyway. He isn’t listening. “Yeah, I hear ya’.” You mumble, a mockery of your old exchange.
You miss the days when he would turn to you and smile, award you with a kiss. You miss the days when he would greet you when you walked in every morning. You miss the days when he would look away from his work for longer than five minutes. You miss the days when you got to see him at night. Got to sleep in the same bed. Got to talk to him. Got to see him, really see him.
You let your hand fall from his shoulder, wondering if he’ll say anything. You usually update him on whatever news is relevant, council or otherwise, because you know he hates the way Piltovan media delivers its information. You usually tell him how your night or morning went, letting the question of whether or not he cares (if he’s even listening) stay in the box with Schrodinger’s cat.
You just walk away, today.
Turn around, walk heavily back to your own lab table. On a normal morning, when you are still sure of your love, you begin thinking about meals, wanting breakfast since you’re no stranger to rushing to the lab as soon as you wake up in the mornings. You ponder Viktor’s tastes, what he might be in the mood for. Back when he still held conversation with you, you’d even ask him what he wanted.
For years now, you’ve got the both of you breakfast in the mornings. For months now, he’s forgotten to thank you. For weeks now, he’s spared it a glance and cleared maybe half the plate. For days now, he hasn’t eaten it at all.
You wonder if he’s run himself so ragged, because he won’t take care of himself or let you help him, that he just can’t anymore. If his stomach is so shriveled he can no longer eat. If his legs are in so much pain that he cannot get up from his lab desk any more. If he is seconds from collapsing to the ground because he has not slept in days.
You wonder if he hates you. If the thought of eating the food you’ve made or bought disgusts him. If he’s so betrayed at the sight of you that he can’t even tell you why. If his last resort is ignoring you and hoping you go away.
You’re very close to just going away.
You remember, fondly these days, the night you almost threw yourself out of the ruins of your life’s work to your death. You remember, bitterly these days, the night Viktor told you his name and you fell a little bit in love with him for the first time.
You wish you had a poetic precipice to toe now.
You wish you were standing in front of a long drop.
But instead, you stand at your desk, hands braced on the cold metal countertop, staring blankly at its surface. You think you may be dissociating. You’re dissociating. You’ve been dissociated all morning.
You’re seeing a city skyline. You’re seeing the street below. You wish you were seeing the street below. If you were standing on an edge right now, with how hunched over you are, you’d have fallen already.
“Jayce, could you bring me the box of copper scraps?”
“Yeah, coming right up!”
He’s so flat. So monotone, all grays and deep desaturated blues. The sound of his voice sends your heart into giddy overdrive, the sound of your name on his lips, the softness of his tone. It’s probably because of the exhaustion.
The feelings in your chest remind you of when you first fell in love, overjoyed and flustered, pinks and yellows, but hollow and laced thoroughly with desperation and devastation. It’s probably because of the exhaustion.
You find the box of scraps slower than you should, and you have an excuse ready on your lips for when he asks, or shoots you one of those looks. You hold your shoulders high when you set it down gingerly next to his workstation, and the excuse dies in your mouth when he doesn’t even look at you. It tastes like decay.
You walk back over to your desk. You take a seat.
You’re getting tired of waiting him out.
He won’t let you help him, he says he can take care of himself. You believe him. He can take care of himself, but he doesn’t. He won’t. His back gets worse, his legs get worse, his lungs get worse. He feels worse, he hurts worse. He ignores you more. He has no time for you in his day. You’re selfish, wanting something from him when the world has already taken so much, but you have been unable to convince yourself not to feel this way.
Your ribs ache. It feels like your heart wants to explode, like it needs to scream and sob and yell, but you were never taught how to do that, so it presses against your ribcage and gives you an eternal ache.
You miss when he would press back into your hands. You miss when you would meet eyes and his would get just a little bit brighter. You miss when he loved you, and you knew it.
You miss when he would let you love him.
You miss when you were able to love him.
Your hands find tools, eventually, and they get to work. Viktor never notices how long it takes you to begin, you’re sure of this. He hasn’t noticed you in a while.

the sexiest wip list
Tumblr media
alright! reminder that this is a dark fic blog. dark fics are not just noncon, but uncomfortable subject matter and questionable thought processes and unreliable povs. control your media experience and read warnings carefully! they’ll be updated when the actual story releases, but these are wips, and i don’t know them all bc I simply have not finished these stories!
some darker warnings on this list include: threats of sexual violence, obsession, death, and previously mentioned unreliable povs from obsessive characters who justify themselves.
Tumblr media
final reminder to read warnings! some of these are intense.
1) Jealous Thor (Untitled)
warnings: cheating, mean!reader, angst
You’re falling for Steve right under his nose. Each day, Thor feels you pull farther away. Each night, he squeezes his eyes shut as you lie asleep next to him, and tries to forget the way you lookat Steve these days with hunger and adoration that you once gave to him.
“He is earthly. For all his body’s and mind’s possession of unnatural experimental growth, he is earthly and limited, so Thor can’t understand why you’re drawing away from him, and telling Steve the jokes, giving Steve all the looks that had him hooked. The lingering eyes and touches… they ride the line of decency.”
2) Heimdall Angst (Untitled)
warnings: major character death, grief, existentialism, out of body experiences
Connected by incredible wisdom and duty to fate, you and The Gatekeeper of Asgard are pulled together by the unique pairing of your mutual seeing abilities—made for greatness, and destined for tragedy.
This story stretches from the moment that catalyzes your meeting, across the years of loving him, to the moment you lose him.
“A fateful tragedy. He sees an arrow through a dove.
He wonders how he missed your encounter with him in the whispers of the cosmos.
“—They’re star deaths,” you say abruptly, “the ones that move and change color. They speed up when you watch them—show their whole life to come...I read about them. Most can’t ever see them life this”.
Turning to where you stand beside him, his eyes swirl with the magic of knowing you, of your destinies combined. He sees you stare at his stars like they’re new.
“Only us.”
3) Away from the Party - Steve Smut
warnings: smut, dubcon, roughness, manipulation, unintentional exhibition
Steve hates these parties. After a mission, the work has just begun, and he fumes at the impossible way that Tony covers all problems in diamonds and pearls. Some things aren’t meant to be pretty.
You are. You’re soft, and kind, and you coax him gently away from the party—the source of his frustrations, with promises of leaving early, of calming down. Oh. He’ll calm down. And you’re just the toy to help. In a closet a corner away from the government’s finest, America’s golden boy has a hand on your throat and one demand.
“Keep quiet.”
“Of course, you both ended up at the party anyway, but with you swirling cool fingertips at his aching temples and rubbing softly over the stretch marks on his chest, he couldn’t find anything in heart to disagree with you then.
Even now with his erection pressed to you through barriers of clothing, with scarcely retrained and monstrous lust, he is steadily calmed by your presence. This rush, the secrecy—it excites him. And you pull him through the haze of it.”
4) Monster Thor Headcanons
warnings: wound and gore descriptions, some sadness
The fantasy of it all. Aesthetic, Lifestyle, Behavior. Some talking points include: hair, horns, hints about how he was influenced by a soft and charming lover many years ago, general horniness. Also spoiler that I’ve decided that He is 8ft tall
“Thor is...ancient. he is a being of war and folklore and raw energy and he’s earthy and elemental and connected. and form follows function. (and also whatever horny thoughts we want )”
5) The Call
warnings: voyeurism, death threats, obsession, implied sexual assault threats
When Frank comes to visit you, you beam like a sunflower. You’ve rearranged your room, and you’re excited about it. He would like to revel in the moment with you...but he’s caught up in one detail. Your bed is pushed against the window...and he can’t convince you to let him move it.
After a night of sin and wild lovemaking, you lie asleep bathed in moonlight, and Frank wakes to a call. Billy. He’s set up on a rooftop miles away, and he’s got things to say about Frank’s girl and what he’d like to do to her. A red dot on his chest means he can only listen. To your gentle snoring, and to the twisted fantasy of a brother unhinged.
“Black silk pajamas. Hair wrapped up in satin. Yellow light almost like sun stretches to the ceiling, but not quite over the rolling hills of your silhouette turned away from him in quiet sleep.
Frank’s hardly got the time to wonder why he’s awake, because his phone buzzes slow again. Pulls the moment he realizes he will have to break this magic peace to molasses and he half fills his lungs before huffing it out and flipping the phone open and tucked between his ear and shoulder.
“What.”
“She’s a reaaaaal pretty one, Frankie boy. You sure know how to pick em.”
6) Loki Longing (Untitled)
warnings: pregnant!fem reader, angst
On the Eve of the birth of Asgard’s heir, Thor is away. In a bath of flowers and magic to ease your pain, maidens worry over you, and Loki rescues you away, letting you rest in bed, and dreaming of the days when you were his lover instead.
“I’d like to rest…in my bed now, please.”
The ladies look to each other. It hasn’t been long enough for the herbs to take effect.
“My Queen,” the eldest starts—
“She is certainly your queen,” a silky silver timbre interrupts, “I’ve learned it’s best to mind her.”
His eyes fall to your form, and some blocked conflict—some guarded affection rests there. Some longing tucked in a pocket like an impossible secret.
7) With Child - Obsessive Steve
warnings: pregnant!fem reader, obsessive Steve
Watching you content, and very pregnant, as you gaze adoringly at your husband Thor from where you rest, half in his lap, Steve can’t help but fantasize. He thinks about impregnating you, the mechanics of sex with a pregnant woman, and being the god who does it all.
“Do you have to lie on your side? Is Thor just behind you, spooning you, fucking with desperate thrusts because you drive him so crazy this way? Steve has heard—and he doesn’t know where—that women get wetter when with child. Steve can’t help but wonder...does Thor need to hold one leg up for you—to save your back that’s so often heavy with the weight of supporting his legacy?”
8) Dean’s Girl
warnings: unreliable pov (john), voyeurism, masturbation + voyeurism
John notices the way you avoid him. You always seem to leave a room just as he’s coming into it. He’s living in the bunker now, and having to realize a lot of things that have changed for the both of his sons.
For example, his oldest, the last he’d ever think would fall in love, has got a pretty girl that dismisses her practical father in law with pointed boredom. She’s protective—how can he blame her after all that he’d put Dean through?
She’s pretty, and John is only a man, and can’t stop himself from just...looking. It starts with a convenient bend as she unloads the dishwasher...then he..can’t help that the door was open and she happened to be changing right there. He also can’t help it the next time when he’s just a little too obvious, pleasuring himself to the smell of her pretty lace panties.
9) Operator, Operator - Steve Smut
warnings: smut, financial troubles?, mentions of creepiness against and danger to sex workers, exhibitionism via phone call
Underpaid and overworked, you along with your roommate/secret crush/ best friend Steve have trouble making ends meet on minimum wage + his art commissions. When you start picking up calls on a phone sex line, he’s able to reason. It’s quick cash, and Steve is mature enough to keep his thoughts appropriate...at first.
One day, he wakes to the sound of breathy moans and a faked orgasms. He wonders how you would sound if only you were high on real pleasure...and there’s no time like the present. Don’t hang up. This call has only just started.
“By the time this year—junior year—swung around, Steve realized he was only catching glimpses of you. He would hear the shake of your keys when you tossed them on the counter, your backpack when it thudded to the floor, and most recently—your moans.
You must not know he’s home. Ever since you started online sex work, specifically being a phone sex operator, you seemed to also make the silent choice that more graphic calls would be saved for when he’s not around.
He gets it. You both split the rent, and Steve has done jobs he’d rather not mention in desperate times, when commissions came short. Still, sometimes you can’t tell when he’s here, and despite his best efforts to push down his arousal, to tell himself you’re his best friend...he’s an artist, and he can’t help but listen, and certainly not the wandering of his imagination.”
10) Professor Steve Medfet - (Untitled)
In an alternate timeline, a washed up Steve Rogers starts a new life in a run down city as an art / anatomy teacher. A class of hungry college students is filled to the brim each year, expecting the unspoken promise of their favorite hands on lab. You.
You keep his class sated, in turn giving the professor job security for funding his simple life out of the public eye. Each year when he calls, you come. Each year the students find a new way to tear you embarrass and degrade, much to the pleasure of the professor.
“Same speech. Same meaningless words. Focusing on the stillness of your skin and how it feels to be alone, you can almost drown out the way his tone edges toward excitement, the way the chairs shift and squeak—the anticipation.
Pretending your heart doesn’t send heat and cold flashes through you and run your breathing shallow, you look at the nicks in the door and try to guess their stories.
But then the metal frame clicks, the door unlatches. Professor Rogers wears a gentle smirk. It doesn’t ease your mind one bit.”
11) Swelter - Forest God Thor
warnings: sexual scenes, time limited conflict, religious themes
With a sickness overtaking nearby villages, yours is next, and has decided to sacrifice you to the cause of foraging for preventative herbs. You venture into the ancient woods after a rare vine of flowers, but leave with much more after encountering Thor.
After disturbing him where he lies cooling in the bank of a stream, you vow to prove the true intention of your soul—that you aren’t a hunter, or witch after his form or faculty, but a pious girl, also needing to escape the heat.
“You’re in the old woods now, and aside from the trees and the mossy nature tangled around them, there is only Him. Thor.
God of the harvest, bringer of land’s wealth, fertility, and vitality. You know of the sacrifices, of the woods where He is rumored to live in an unseen form, of livid white fire in the sky if He is severely displeased.
His name must not be spoken outside of prayer or ritual, and even now, you stutter to think it, and wonder if you are alone in your thoughts.”
[...]
“The frustration and the fear in your dilemma disturb the air, disquieting the otherwise enduring peace of the old woods, which rouses a large form in the cool muddy bank of the stream. It is only leaves shifting at first. Faded pumpkin and dried oak scatter—and suddenly the air smells like rain and your mouth sets around the tastes of copper and sage. Then, the leaves tumble off of a beast of a mass that rises slowly, and you note that it felt like the atmosphere changed to accommodate its awakening.”
12) Halloween Party - Thor Smut (Untitled)
warnings: smut, heartbreak, depressed!reader
An exclusive and mysterious Halloween party is still on this year—and you’re invited. It’s meant to be so extravagant and flashy an Avenger will one day attend, and all attendees decorate themselves in costumes inspired by the heroes, hoping to be noticed.
Fresh after a breakup with your boyfriend Brock, you take one half of the preordered couples costume and dress up as a goddess, determined to have a good night with your friends, find some excitement, and most importantly, a new god to match.
“Standing solemn, floor to ceiling windows allow in a few milky rays reflected by the moon, but they’re all the gems of your bodice need to gleam to a suitor's eye. Tonight, while you plan to rid your soul of another, you are welcomed with open arms and careful consideration as the final offering at an altar. You are seen by a god.”
13) Grief
warnings: dead!reader, guilt, grief, scary science, how do i say this... smut that is borderline necroph—there’s a replica of you, dark!steve, tony lives, pepper dies
Steve’s world is upside down. He’s lost the light of his life, and is completely in the dark. Luckily for him, Tony is back in the business of reality rejecting technology, and has found a way for him to be with you again.
At an abandoned cottage, Steve brings an armful of your scents to give the Tony’s invention sensory data, and faces the strange reality of what’s always been his worst stage...his worst trait. Denial.
“Dozens of test bottles full of manufactured scents, the kind of thing you smell borrowing a sweater, or with your face in the crook of someone’s neck. Essentially, the sort of organic thing that cannot be recaptured.
Steve’s got an armful of perfume and body wash. Of conditioner and deodorant, of all the elements he can think that make you smell the way you would—the way you do.
He wills the thoughts to be present tense. If he pretends you are alive, maybe it will look like it is you only sleeping. He wonders how well Tony knows the texture of your hair suddenly, because if it isn’t right, the experience will fall to shambles. It currently walks a plank over shambles. One wrong interpretation or surprise, and Steve will find himself spinning and burning with the fall into a new and uncharted taboo.”
14) Night Drive - Dean Smut
warnings: road head
On a long overnight drive, your back pressed into the seat of the impala makes you miss lying in bed with your lover, makes you miss his gentle caress right next to you...so you remind him how good it is to be close.
“You think about it when he hums a little tune. When he hums the song he wishes would play and thinks will come up next, it is eerily soft, and eerily similar to the soft contentment he sighs when you kiss on his neck.
When he reaches for your hand to hold, it makes you consider the shortness of the distance between you, and you think of pulling his cock out right here, giving him head that melts him here on this endless road.
Looking at him, he senses your interest—he turns his head to meet your eyes, throws up a grin of boyish charm. He’s happy to be here with you. These night drives are fine. He’s never minded them. But they’re even lovelier when in your company.”
15) Shadow - The Bucky Mystery
warnings: stalking, injury, sexual assault, canon typical hydra torture, mentions of bucky being forced to assault people, traumatized reader
On the run from Hydra, there aren’t many things that Bucky can remember. Inside his mind, there aren’t many feelings that make sense. Mostly, he feels guilt. Horror.
Following you to the gym where you practice ballet alone in the nights is all that makes sense, and for reasons he can’t explain, he feels drawn to you.
As time goes on, Bucky feels more enticed by his desire, you start to feel eyes staring from the walls, motivations and traumas are revealed, and in a horrible symphony, you both remember your connection.
“He’s a matte shadow against the noir shine of metal walls—an observer in the unlit quiet on his side of the room.
And he feels his unimportance. It’s humbling. Holds up the room like chunky beams and high rafters, dressed in the same layered neutrals. Framing the same cotton candy dancer, silent as the pad of her slippers when she turns her weight onto a straight leg, other coming up with her ankle pointed to the bend of her knee.
She spins, she spins and she whips her head around with each one, but it’s Bucky who gets dizzy.”

The Witcher - Favorite Reads Masterpost
Tumblr media
So, the previous one was getting really super long and Tumblr refused to save the latest update three times, which I’m taking to mean I’ve reached some kind of length limit. In view of that, and with a poke to @nyliekeo who asked to be tagged, here’s the second volume of my Witcher fic-reading adventures!
(Pretty much all Geraskier, because I’m only a multishipper in the sense that I have many ships across many fandoms.)
Volume 1
Last updated: April 10th, 2020.
Non geraskier fic
Her Current Is Pulling You Closer - TheMarvellousMadMadamMim

Specs: 3 456 words - Mature - Trans woman!Geralt, curses, happy ending
Summary:  When Geralt was a child his mother kissed his forehead, wove flowers in his hair, and let him dance around the campsite they shared with the other druids. He loved dancing, the way his body moved and flowed; he was like water.
And then she left him in the road, spilled water on his feet, and a faint trail of dust where she and the cart were no longer. And a man came and took Geralt and made him into something new.
“Were you short? Waifish? Did those witcher mutagens turn you into, you know, the hulking sexy man that you are? At least they gave you such male perfection, what with the stubble and the jaw and the--”
“Shut up, Jaskier.”
(Or, Geralt is cursed with a female body during their travels. Only it's not so much a curse as a gift she didn't know she so desperately desired until now.)
of cockroaches and men - Potrix
Specs: 1 442 words - Teen & Up Audiences - Yennefer & Jaskier, Getting to know each other, BAMF Jaskier
Summary: As if being stuck waiting for her supplier in this sorry excuse for a town full of narrow-minded, superstitious simpletons isn't already frustrating enough, the first familiar face Yennefer spots when she walks into the grubby tavern is that of her least favourite bard.
Or, alternatively; sometimes you misjudge people, but there's nothing some badassery and booze won't fix.

Cover it over and write it out - TheArcheologist
Specs: 3 214 words - Mature - Dyslexia, implied child abuse, Dandelion is a noble
Summary: There is something Geralt has noticed, after traveling so long with Jaskier. It is nothing major, nothing world ending or even warranting bringing up, but it is there, nonetheless, a funny little habit he can’t unsee.
“You’re better at this stuff than me, Geralt, you read it.”
Geraskier fics

Specs: 737 words - Teen & Up - Trans Jaskier

Specs: 3 496 words - General Audiences - Growing Old Together
Summary: Geralt realizes Jaskier is growing old and tries his best to return the rest of Jaskier's life to him. If only Jaskier would cooperate and take it.
//
How much longer will Jaskier be content with weathering the elements and contending with the uncertainty of mercenary work? How long until Jaskier realizes that in devoting himself to crafting a legacy for Geralt, he has forgotten to create a legacy of his own?
After all, he does not have a wife or children, for their nomadic lifestyle is conducive to neither. He has no home to return to between stints with Geralt, whether a sprawling mansion vaunting his wealth or a comfortable cottage replete with souvenirs from his varied exploits. How many experiences has Jaskier sacrificed because some contract or irate nobleman drew them elsewhere? How many untouched fields of snow has Jaskier never seen; how many harvests at Novigrad has he yearned to celebrate from halfway across the Continent—
“You’re staring,” Jaskier points out.
“You wanted to go to the Kovirian coast,” Geralt responds.
a tapestry of scars - splendidlyimperfect
Specs: 7 688 words - Mature - Modern AU, Birpolar disorder, self harm, references to previous suicide attempt and car accident.

Specs: 12 532 words - Explicit - Monster of the week, Service top Jaskier, attempted mind control.
Summary:  “I learn stuff about you to enrich my songs, thanks very much.”  Geralt starts.
“Like what?”
Jaskier strums a chord. “Plenty of things. You always ask the contractor if they want the head or not instead of just showing up with it, because you don’t want to shock people. You eat normal amounts of food when eating in public, instead of your usual awe-inducing giant amount. You sleep more when you’re hurt, but that’s the only way I’d ever know. You’re a bit weird about your potions and you count them a lot.” He glances up and grins. “Shall I continue?”
A handful of contracts go sideways. Recovering is easier with Jaskier there.
when midnight breaks their sleep - SummerFrost
Specs: 16 736 words - Mature - Modern setting, polyamory, polyamory negociation
Summary:   The first Snapchat that anyone ever sends Geralt is a picture of his own irritated face.

"It wasn't even that nicely," Geralt says flatly.
AKA: The one where Geralt is a bartender and Jaskier sings karaoke.
he, who i love - kinneyb
Specs: 1 279 words - Teen & Up Audiences - Established relationship
Summary: Jaskier looked forward to these nights the most; he was playing in a rundown tavern in a small town near the coast, coins gathered at his feet, knowing that at any moment Geralt would come bursting through the door.
He spun on his heels, strumming his lute with nimble fingers, the mark of a practiced player.
Jaskier had thought he’d reached his peak when he was younger. He had been proven wrong, of course, practice truly did make perfect. He was getting more attention than ever, and only half of it probably had to do with his new songs, all depicting the Witcher’s love story with a bard of the human variety.
He never directly mentioned himself, but the people had made the connection fairly easily, anyway.
Near the Coast - IantoPace
Specs: 2 164 words - Teen & Up Audiences - Dresses

Specs: 15 338 words - Teen & Up Audiences - Animal transformation
Summary: It's been two weeks since Geralt drove Jaskier away from him on that mountain top and Geralt's been doing his best not to think about it by accepting every contract he comes across. But when a job goes badly he find himself cursed into the form of an injured wolf and is then saved by none other than Jaskier himself, who has no idea that the animal he's taken under his wing is his own witcher. Geralt must now try to alert Jaskier to his real situation and adjust to his new life traveling with the bard, learning several hard but very much needed lessons along the way.

Specs: 1 448 words - General Audiences - External POV, Old age
Summary: At the edge of the village, in a house surrounded by wild-flowers and weeds - re-built from its former crumbling foundations – there lived the Old Man. He’d earnt the rights for the capital O, capital M off of the rest of the villagers barely a week after he’d moved into their humble world. For he had not grown up here, like everyone else did. Yet he settled and settled as if he had always been there. He wandered the cliffsides, the beaches, the streets. He strung shells together and gifted them to the ladies of the village with a wink that betrayed the charming young man he once must have been. He bought the little ceramic pots Alicja sold on the market, and he filled them with weeds as if the weeds were flowers worth showcasing. And – most importantly – he sang.
-///-
Or, Jaskier settles in a costal village towards the end of his life.
For The Joy Of It - vvitchering (Witchering)

The Silence Between Heartbeats - anarchycox
Specs: 7 969 words - Teen & Up Audiences - Jskier knows Geralt better than anyone
Summary: Geralt faced off with a sorceress, only instead of her magic killing him, it stole his voice. But this should be an easy fix, he knew many women who could heal this. But that would mean anyone noticing something wrong. He knew he was quiet, but seriously, did no one wonder why he wasn't saying a single thing? Months he traveled silent, no one noticing and it was driving him mad.
Until he runs into Jaskier, who notices immediately that something is wrong.Because of course it is Jaskier.
Who else in the end would it be, who properly saw the White Wolf?

Specs: 749 words - General Audiences - Introspective, fluff
Summary: Geralt’s head turns to him just as he’s jumping into his arms. Obviously, he catches Jaskier, in his very strong, very big arms. Still probably processing what’s happening, Geralt’s body is tense, unmoving. Jaskier doesn’t care.
New Monsters Stories - Kathkin
Specs: 20 209 words - Explicit - Urban fantasy, mutual pining
Summary:  “So do you have a name?”
“Yeah.” The man who had saved his life less than an hour ago – the white-haired, absurdly buff, weirdly sexy man Jaskier might have called taciturn if he was feeling charitable and surly if he was feeling less so – dug into his second burger.
Jaskier waited. “Are… you going to tell me what it is?”
The man paused mid-bite, and looked at him reproachfully as if to say how dare you. How dare you interrupt me. Can’t you see I’m enjoying my cheeseburger. Can’t you see this cheeseburger is the most important thing in my life right at the moment. He swallowed, and said, “Geralt.”
It turns out almost getting eaten by a werewolf can make your whole life go careening off in a new, terrifying, wondrous, artistically flourishing direction. Who knew?
Professor Pankratz - martistarfighter
Specs: 1 147 words - Teen & Up Audiences - Established relationship
Sumary:  “Come teach my class with me tomorrow.” He whispers in the witcher’s ear. He’s sporting a neatly trimmed beard these days, and it tickles Geralt’s neck in the most tempting way.
Geralt chuckles dryly, but the lack of an immediate quip tells him that Jaskier is serious. It’s a little scary how often they can read their minds by now.
“Don’t think so. You’re the teacher, Jask. I’ve got nothing to tell them.”
“But you’re the reason I’m still alive and teaching in the first place. Besides, you can just sit there, look pretty and answer some questions. My students have heard a lot about you, they’ll adore you.”
As someone pointed out, there's too much 'witcher watching out for his idiot' and not enough 'the witcher is a himbo who loves his college educated bard husband, who is qualified to teach' content out there. So I'm fixing it with a self-indulgent ficlet!
and i plan to be forgotten when i’m gone (yes, i’ll be leaving in the fall) - Stockholm_Syndrome
Specs: 18 083 words - Mature - Discussion of assisted suicide, discussion of suicide, depression, curse, no MCD
Summary: “That was more emotional than I expected.” He finally said “I didn’t think I’d have time to share this with you, and I.” Jaskier interrupted himself, as if unsure if he should continue. “I suppose I didn’t think it would upset you so.”
“Jaskier” Geralt growled, not able to express how ludicrous that idea was.
“Yes, I suppose I was wrong there.” Jaskier replied with a helpless shrug.
---- Or, Jaskier is cursed to turn into a monster. He doesn't think this is important information to mention.
Chopsticks - thisgirlsays22
Specs: 12 175 words - Explicit - Piano teacher!Jaskier, friends to lovers, modern setting
Summary: “Yennefer sent me a check for eight lessons for you,” Jaskier said the following weekend, wearing a beige button-down with--
“Does your shirt have owls on it?” Geralt asked, caught somewhere between amusement and horror.
Jaskier looked down and tugged on the front of his shirt as if he had to remind himself what was on it. He beamed at Geralt. “Yeah! Do you like it?”
“Not particularly.”
The smile swiftly disappeared.
“It’s not terrible,” he amended, stepping back to let Jaskier inside the apartment. Then Jaskier’s initial words sank in. “Wait. Yen did what?”
Hanging up on Yennefer was always a mistake.
what’s in a (pet) name? - janie_tangerine
Specs: 1 415 words - Teen & Up Audiences - Fluff, pet names
Summary:  "So," he clears his throat one evening, having just rinsed Geralt's now clean, soft white hair, and damn how he wishes the man would just take care of it somewhat decently, "I was wondering."
"What?" Geralt says after he doesn't go on for a bit. It didn't sound particularly annoyed. Right on.
"This is a very broad question, but I was just curious, no need to answer if you don't want to -" Jaskier starts, having learned that giving the man a way out is always a good bet.
"Just get on with it, won't you?"
Jaskier clears his throat, leans down, puts his elbows on the rim of the tub. "How do you feel about pet names?"
Or: in which Jaskier has a question for Geralt. It doesn't get answered the way he had assumed.
As Long As You Were Mine For A Little While - whisperedstories
Specs: 12 815 words - Explicit - Friends with benefits, mutual pining
Summary: It starts with Jaskier offering a helping hand when Geralt needs to let off some steam. The thing is, Jaskier likes taking care of Geralt—however he can—and Geralt lets him, so he just keeps doing it.
And as long as they never talk about how he's in love with Geralt, they're both happy with the arrangement, right? Right.
Of Debt and Debtors - sp_oops
Specs: 5 136 words - Explicit - Semi-public sex
Summary: Two bros, chillin' in a ta-vern, five feet apart ‘cause they—fuck, they really missed each other, not that Geralt will ever admit it—and anyway, in a minute here, they're gonna have to get closer than they ever thought possible. (Or, sometime after Episode 6, they meet again, Jaskier’s in trouble again, and Geralt saves them. Again.)
This One I Shall Choose - DorkMagician
Specs: 3 751 words - Teen & Up Audiences - Quiet pining, the exact moment Geralt falls in love

Jaskier blinks. “It’s a tattoo,” he says. “Have you never seen a tattoo before, Geralt?”
Geralt fights the urge to roll his eyes. “I know it’s a tattoo,” he says. “What’s it a tattoo of?”
They say there are 5 ways to show your love (and I don’t know any of them) - Mayathelittlebee
Specs: 5 989 words - Teen & Up Audiences - Fluff, humor

Specs: 11 152 words - Explicit - In which Jaskier has to quelle his murder instincts concerning how much Geralt’s life sucks
Summary: or: five times plus one in which Jaskier finds out that Geralt is missing on good life experiences and promptly sees to fix it.
Fill Me Up - Mysticmajestic
Specs: 402 words - Teen & Up Audiences - Romance
Summary: Geralt only knows how to give, and give, until he's empty. What is he to do with Jaskier, who only wants to give back to him?
Little Things - QueenForADay
Specs: 3 315 words - General Audiences - Domestic fluff, Ciri ships it
Summary: In the first few months of knowing the Witcher, he experienced first-hand how shut-off Geralt could be with the world around him and those within it.
At some point, and he can’t pinpoint where, that shroud started to slip away. He saw how much Geralt could, and does, actually care. It’s as fierce as the way he fights.
They spend a great deal of time watching each other; when they finally fell into a bed together, they spent most of their nights learning what the other liked, mapping the plains of skin and muscle underneath the other.
But it’s the other things, the little things, that Jaskier thinks about the most.
O, Empathy - almostnectarine
Specs: 32 624 words - Mature - Body swap, friends to lovers, questfic
Summary: “How did you manage,” asked Geralt, with infinite patience and only a desire to know the facts, and not at all a little meanhearted glee, “to insult a sorcerer while his tongue was down your throat?”
“Don’t make me recount the entire sordid affair, Geralt,” said Jaskier, with a surprising note of desperation breaking through his gruff monotone. “I’m already having a rather shit day and all I’ve done so far is wake up.”
“In my body,” said Geralt.
“Yes,” said Jaskier, with the insolent cadence that was unmistakably Jaskier’s, but in Geralt’s voice, emerging from Geralt’s face and frame.
“And I’ve got yours,” said Geralt, from Jaskier’s.
and for that love to be with men - sebviathan
Specs: 6 734 words -Mature - Emotional constipation, self discovery, self acceptance, geralt is a whole ass gay man who doesn’t know what being gay is
Summary: Something's not right about what I'm doing but I'm still doing it—living in the worst parts, ruining myself. My inner life is a sheet of black glass. If I fell through the floor I would keep falling.
